Postby Hafamarimyht » Sun Apr 21, 2024 8:36 pm

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
Sign-Ups Close – 1 June 2024
Draft Thread Closes – 4 June 2024 (with the Live Draw following soon after, subject to change based on numbers)
+ 24 hour grace period to occur 24 hours after the Live Draw
Voting Period – Closes on 11 June 2024
Winner Known By- 15 June 2024

COMPLETING YOUR ENTRY
As written by Kalosia for WHF26: The host (Hafamarimët) reserves the right to make alterations to your RP when copying it over to the IC thread. However, these alterations will be limited to cleaning up the formatting as well as adding (not deleting) RP regarding the situation in the arena (i.e. how the audience reacted). Substantial/major alterations will not be made without written permission, and any further changes to an entry within the IC thread will only be done upon written request by the user behind it, and with host discretion. This also includes audience reactions at the end of the entry...

Helping Your Host: Hi, I’m just going to leave Beepee’s post from last edition because I’ll also be formatting the entries for uniformity! Thanks Beepee!

I would appreciate if you could keep your formatting of your entry very simple (just text and the 'BOX' tag would be fantastic, no need for colours, bold, italics and underlining - unless they are keys or backing singers etc).

PLEASE LEAVE TRANSLATIONS AT THE END OF YOUR POST UNDER A SINGLE SPOILERS. It slows down the process of making all entries uniform. Thanks.

WIP Entries: It would also help a lot if you put a "WIP" or Work In Progress sign somewhere obvious, preferably in the subject or at the top of your post if you don't want me to notice that as finished. All completed entries will be considered final when the Voting Lines open.

What is a Complete Entry?: Please refer to the Acceptable Standards for Entries at the World Hit Festival. Your entry will appear in the spoiler above if it has been accepted.

Headers: Please use the header that is provided below. Failure to do so will count as your entry not being completed. Please do not use caps in the header unless your artist name/song title is stylised in that way.

FINAL NOTES

It is not the intention of either the host or the Overseer to stop any user from competing at the World Hit Festival as that would go against the reason of the Festival which is to bring people together. Thus, these are the new measures that will be put in place in order to make sure that you compete.

  • The Host will alert you that the Draft Thread is open on Discord and the OOC thread. At this point, you will be able to post your spot on the Draft Thread and start working on it.
  • The Host/Overseer will send a telegram to everyone when the sign-ups close (or a week into the Draft Thread) to everyone who has not submitted an entry adhering to the above entry standards (this includes those who have yet to submit an entry), reminding them that the Festival Draft Thread is still open. A reminder will be posted on #worldhitfestival too.
  • Between 24-72 hours before the World Hit Festival Draft Thread closes (before the Draft Thread), the Host/Overseer will contact you if you have posted on the Draft Thread but you have yet to reach the entry standards of the Festival. We will outline what needs to be done to take you over the edge.
  • If you need more time or assistance, please contact either the Host or the Overseer about this issue so we can sort out a fair way to get you to compete. If you don’t contact the Host or the Overseer if you intend to get your entry in a bit later, your entry will be outright rejected.

Standing in an indescribable pitch-black abyss
Our names remain unknown even to ourselves
So I burn-burn-burn my past disguises down
A new world of the divine is beginning
And embrace-brace-brace the stars of the present
Letting the naked truth come to light

The sound waking us up from an eternal deep sleep
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Coming from a butterfly of the forests
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud

Darum-di-dum-dum-dum
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
It’s so loud, loud-loud-loud-loud-loud-loud-loud

It’s so loud

The revelations about our present are indisputable
You make me wanna kiss the angel of my sunflowers
So I burn-burn-burn my past disguises down
Letting the polygonal boundaries keeping us apart dissolve
And embrace-brace-brace the stars of the present
Combining the invincible entropies within us

The sound waking us up from an eternal deep sleep
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Clear like the jewelry in our hands
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud

Darum-di-dum-dum-dum
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
It’s so loud, loud-loud-loud-loud-loud-loud-loud

It’s so loud

Come, come, come
It’s so loud
Come, come, come
It’s so loud

The sound waking us up from an eternal deep sleep
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
We can’t miss this rare opportunity
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud

Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud
Darum-di-dum-dum-dum-it’s so loud

Lyricists: M.K. • Composers: M.K.
Language(s): Enhlish

WIP
Tell me I’m fine
Hold me with sweet lies
Tell me I’m free
Ask me this one truth:

Why can’t I let go?
Why can’t I let go?

Hurting so good
The way you kill me
Feeling so right
But you left me cold

It never felt like home
Why can’t I let go?

Oh I, I…
I just want to be free
But I dunno how
I just want to be free
Until then, I’ll try
‘Til then, I’ll try

Why are you mad?
It feels hard to breathe
You scare me now
Like you’ve hurt me then

I don’t want to go home
Why can’t I let go?

Oh I, I…
I just want to be free
But I dunno how
I just want to be free
Until then, I’ll try
‘Til then, I’ll try

Think I know why my heart’s so broken
I can’t find it, I can’t fix what I’ve lost
One day I’ll find it
One day I’ll let go
One day I’ll let go

Tábata Viera - "Me Tengo Que Ir"
Tune: NIA - La Puerta
Lyricists: Tábara Viera • Composers: Tábata Viera, Andrés Stevenson, Carlos Duque
Language(s): Spanish

Image

A long, flowing red dress. A heart-shaped locket with a picture of his parents—her mother, Tábata María, a wistful mulata from the outskirts of the rough Rosario barriadas that found a job cleaning houses and assisting children in a Corola daycare center, and her father Fulgencio, a Galician-born corolano that fell in love with a black woman in spite of his father’s racist protestations. She clung to the silver locket, clutched near her heart just as it was shaped into. She never left home without it. She even clung herself tightly to it as she walked towards the stage. There she was, Tábata Viera—the young woman that started singing Catholic hymns when she was a young girl and did jazz as a side gig to pay for her nursing studies (his father was initially cut off from the Viera’s inheritance back home in Galicia and in Corola, until Tábata came of age and claimed some of it—even so, poverty did not faze her at all), until someone discovered her while singing at a Sunday brunch (it’s always the brunches where people get discovered!)and convinced her to represent the Achaean Republic in the next World Hit Festival. “What’s that?” she responded plainly. The recruiter was surprised; how could she not be aware of the storied indie musical competition that the Achaean Republic has won three times? He questioned if she had a little too much to drink. But that is neither here nor there.

There was a confluence of factors that influenced Tábata’s decision to sing a pop-infused bolero. First, Lorenzo Bacci’s iconic performance of Solitario in the 112th WorldVision Song Contest, hosted in Puerto Ámbar, itself buoyed by the resurgence in boleros from the youth, inspired her. The direction the Achaean delegation took, that of highlighting folk and indie artists, or at least those that have been unrecognized by mainstream media, have established the World Hit Festival as an alternative venue for showcasing national talent, compared to the “mainstream” efforts of WorldVision (though it seems that the former contest is moving towards that direction due to consolidation). Beyond that, it was important to capitalize on the resurgence of traditional sounds shared by Latin Americans—and above all, by fellow caribeños.

Me Tengo Que Ir (“I Have to Go”) is the second lead-in single for her debut album, Tambores Gallegos para Almas Caribeñas (Galician Drums for Caribbean Souls”), an LP expected to be launched in summer 2024 where Viera mixes traditional Galician sounds and tropical rhythms, such as merengue, pop, guaracha, and bolero. The song, one of the album’s most intimate and personal, reflects the terrible experience of her first bad breakup on the way to assert her own identity as a free woman. She filmed the music video in October 2023 in the city of Vigo, where her father is from. She was able to make connections with the father’s side of her family, enjoy the food, and witness the beautiful Atlantic islands. (She also has Spanish citizenship.) But she also experienced discrimination, disillusion, heartbreak. Talking about it was for naught, so singing it would be important to express her innermost feelings. Maybe someone else would listen to her and understand what she went through…

If I could desire to rescue your ungrateful voice
If hope is the last thing that would escape from
If I felt you, if I felt you
I no longer see you interested in my soul
Every excuse is a tranquility to do nothing
If I felt you, if I felt you
Beyond this pillow

Oh, why? Oh, why?
Why do you want to stop me?
Oh, why? Oh, why? Oh, why? Oh, why?
Why do you want to stop me?

Because of this, I had to leave far away from here
The prison is similar
I gave up my chance to be happy
To see you with strength
Go with God, maybe He will help
Give you someone that deserves you

I don’t hate you, don’t think it was because of her
I know how much suffering is a part of living
But I don’t reach the heights, nor I want to lie to you
Because of this, the door waits for me

Oh, why? Oh, why?
Why do you want to stop me?
Oh, why? Oh, why? Oh, why? Oh, why?
Why do you want to stop me?
Love always runs away

Because of this, I had to leave far away from here
The prison is similar
I gave up my chance to be happy
To see you with strength
Go with God, maybe He can
Give you someone that deserves you

(Go with God, maybe He can)
Give you someone that deserves you
(Go with God, maybe He can)
Give you someone that deserves you

Tune: Jennifer Lopez - On My Way (Marry Me)
Lyricists: Mila Andini, Satya Werdana • Composers: Antonius Huda
Language(s): Pemecutan Malay

Telah lama kulupakan
Rasa yang dulu pernah ada
Aku t’lah menguburnya
Kini kau hadir di sisi
Membuatku mengingat lagi
Aku mengabaikannya

Engkau datang tiada terduga
Membangkitkan kenangan lama
Akan rasa yang t’lah kutinggalkan

Dan aku pun menghindar…

S’gala cara kau lakukan
Tuk buatku lagi merasa
Aku pun menggapainya
Dan tak lelah kau mengingatkan
Bahwa cinta ada disana
Aku menyadarinya

Engkau datang bawa harapan
Akan cinta yang lebih besar
Dengan harap bertahan s’lamanya

Dan aku pun percaya
Hingga pada akhirnya
Tanpa aku merasa
Cinta pun telah datang

Oh… rasakan, rasakan cinta
Percaya, percaya cinta
Sadarkah ku jatuh cinta
Oh… rasakan, rasakan
(Percaya) percaya
(Sadarkah) ku jatuh cinta

Oh…Engkau datang bawa harapan
Akan cinta yang lebih besar
Dengan harap bertahan s’lamanya

Bersama cinta…
Oh…oh…Percaya cinta
Ku jatuh cinta…

I've long forgotten
The feeling that used to be there
I've buried it
Now you are on my side
Makes me remember again
I ignored it

You came unexpectedly
Resurrects old memories
Of the feeling that I have left behind

And I ran away...

You do everything you can
To make me feel again
I reached for it
And you don't get tired of reminding me
That love is there
I realized it

You come bringing hope
Of greater love
With the hope that it lasts forever

And I believe it too
Until the end
Without me feeling
Love has come

Oh… feel it, feel the love
Believe, believe love
Do you realize, I'm falling in love?
Oh… feel it, feel it
(Believe) believe
(Do you realize) I'm falling in love

Oh...You come bringing hope
Of greater love
With the hope that it lasts forever

With love...
Oh…oh…Believe in love
I fell in love...

I know I’m worth more than what I get,
My standards are in free-fall, should I repent?
Perhaps it’s karma, maybe this is what I deserve
Treated like shit over and over again.

You know the right words to say in the moment,
You pretend you care, you pretend to listen.
I’ve got your number - it’s your modus operandi,
I know what’s coming, I can spell it out -

Shower me with praise, tell me that I am pretty
Say with confidence I'm the best you’ve ever seen.
Eyes on the prize - you’d get anything you want with lies.
(It’s all lies)
Buy me with promises that you know you won’t keep,
Pull me in with your gaze, you know I’ll give in.
Hit the jackpot - you have won my heart,
Only to keep playing with it.

It’s a shame I’m not stubborn,
I crave your attention, my ultimate weakness.
You’re living in my mind rent free - it's what you want,
Despite how hard I try, I just can't get you out of my mind.

You know the right words to say in the moment,
You pretend you care, you pretend to listen.
I’ve got your number - it’s your modus operandi,

Ampana - "Soledad"
Tune: Strawberry Guy – Mrs. Magic
Lyricists: Andrew Paul Marshall • Composers: Andrew Paul Marshall
Language(s): English

Image
A promotional picture of Andrew himself

Andrew Paul Marshall was born in Murgon, BNTT, on 22nd April, 2002. The only child of an office worker and a stay-at-home housewife, he was pretty much a lonely kid growing up. Not much friends, no real relatives nearby, and the majority of things he was into weren’t really things kids his age were into. The fact that he was diagnosed with autism when he was seven and avoidant personality disorder in his late teens probably didn’t help matters either. That being said, while he was a solitary person, he still made the best of things. He had friends online who had the same interests as him, including one of his cousins who’d be quite important to him later, and he was able to discover other things that started to tickle his fancy.

It probably also helped him expand his horizons when it came to music. Even as a youngster, he never particularly cared much for what was currently in the charts. Sure he had moments when he was older where he was all “Wait, why didn’t I like this again?” but even then his taste was first and foremost older stuff that his parents listened to. Songs that were big in the 80s or the 90s, basically. As he got older and spent more time online, he started to develop an interest in more underground genres. A certain pandemic forcing everything to close down for quite a while helped him out a bit, especially since he wasn’t planning to go to university upon graduation. It was also during this point where he not only decided to go into making music but he decided to go for a more lo-fi bedroom pop thing. Not only was it his more his sort of thing but it would require stuff that he could either easily learn or make up as he’d go along, it wouldn’t require interacting with a whole lot of people and it was a lot more cheaper all-round than starting a band with other instruments even if he played them all himself.

Dubbing this new project “Ampana”, an anagram made up of the first two letters of his whole name, he started getting to work on making music. While he could sing alright and had a bit of practice playing the piano thanks to the music lessons at school giving everyone keyboards, it took him a long time to actually make things he wanted to like. He had to go through a lot of revamping what he had or just scrapping songs and starting again fresh. But he eventually managed to get something he liked in October 2020 and so he uploaded it to a number of sites where he was a regular. While it didn’t get a whole load of positive attention, he got that absolute rare of rarities where people actually helped his understand where he went wrong and what he could do to fix it. Obviously he took down what he made but he still took the advice to heart and got to work on improving everything else. He even used this time to get a couple of keyboards, even if they were second hand rather than something brand new and exciting, just so he wouldn’t have to keep resorting to the built-in stuff that his not exactly legal copy of FL Studio had.

After taking the best part of a year to hone his craft, get to grips with things and ultimately be comfortable and confident with what he was about to make, Andrew was finally ready to have another crack at song making. Keeping the constructive criticism given to him in mind, he decided to make a few more songs. He even took bits from the first few he made and put online and either incorporated them into his new songs or touched them up so they would ultimately work in the grand scheme of things. Obviously he uploaded it onto the same sites as before and, while there were a few criticisms, it was ultimately positive enough that he decided to release them as an EP. It was a self-titled one since he couldn’t come up with a name, but that didn’t matter as it managed to get a good amount of streams and people spent a few sofanc to download a copy so they can listen to it offline. He took his time to perfect his craft even more before releasing a second EP in January, this one being called “This Is Another Ampana EP”. Two more EPs followed in March and July respectively, titled “Yet Another Ampana EP” and “I Hope This EP Is Alright With Everyone”. All of which managed to get some serious numbers, serious enough that maybe he could have a crack at a music career instead of getting off his arse and getting a proper job like his parents keep telling him to. Of course live performances were a bugger, but they were few and far between and were either him facing away from the crowd or have a sheet blocking his view of them. And that’s not mentioning how they were small crowds as well in local places.

He had long considered making an album, as he figured that having something with a longer playtime would mean that people wouldn’t have to keep having to search for the next EP if they wanted to carry on listening to his stuff, but he kept putting it on hold. Part of it was because he wasn’t sure how much mileage it would get considering he hadn’t been signed, but part of it was because he didn’t want to put out those marathon sessions designed not to showcase good music but rather to farm streams and thus make more money. Enter Super Saturday, a label who was fully independent, had signed a few of his favourite artists and already had an artist on their roster who didn’t tour so there was no obligation for him to do so. While it did take him quite a while to get around to it, he eventually got himself signed to the label. He didn’t do much to begin with, he just made covers of his labelmates’ stuff. Or, more accurately, remade the music in his style but let them have their vocals over them. It wasn’t much but it was the closest he wanted to get when it came to collaborating with people.

Eventually, he got around to making an actual debut album. He could’ve taken the easy route by combining his previous EPs into one album, he could’ve just remixed them and called it a day. But he didn’t and instead got to work on eleven original songs. It took a while for him to get a sound he was happy with, as he didn’t want to sound like any of his label mates or even Eterna who had been quite an influence, but he eventually managed to get it done. Titling it “This Is An Ampana Album” and releasing it in April 2023 for the sole reason that he just kept procrastinating, it got rave reviews from critics and decent sales. He didn’t really join his labelmates on the Super SaTourDay tour, although he did perform at the Murgon concert. And even then he wasn’t there on stage, it was merely him in an abandoned building somewhere. Unfortunately, while he did anticipate it, he wasn’t really prepared for this level of fame and as a result remained even more reclusive, staying off of social media for quite a while and only communicating with people he actually fully knows. He did come back briefly in May 2024 to announce that he was working on some new stuff and even released a new song, Soledad, but time will tell whether this will actually lead to something or if he’ll just disappear for good.

A bit fluffy and full of filler yes, but you try getting some mileage out of a 22-year-old whose career has just started.

Things were starting to look bleak with the World Hit Festival, with some saying that the honeymoon period was starting to come to an end. A second place finish that was a lot closer that it seemed at the 70th World Hit Festival? That was good, shame that Lisa Park and Her Gang couldn’t take the W but it was something to build off of. The dance music duo of Fata Morgana re-uniting to perform one of their new songs was theoretically a good result as it came fourth at the 71st World Hit Festival, but as it was the first time the country had failed to receive 5 points from any other country taking part it was a small concern. Due to some difficulties with the original entrant, Lucía Beltrán was selected to represent Elejamie at the 72nd World Hit Festival with the MH2 remix of Sin nombre (which came fifth at WV99) but not only did she also finish in eighth place with only nine points but she also failed to receive a single set of 5. That was a total disaster. And it didn’t exactly help that there had been a few grumblings of supposed tactical voting going on between a few of the countries taking part, although the CRTS were unable to verify those claims and any attempts to contact the WHF higher-ups about it were met with absolute silence.

As a result, the CRTS has announced that it would be skipping over the 73rd WHF over in Hercules, Beepee. Stephen Hartnell, who is not only in charge of handling Elejamie’s WHF affairs but has also been the country’s delegation head since the 67th edition, stated that it was a one edition hiatus to not only re-evaluate the country’s future in the contest but also to see if they can find something actually good enough to restore faith in the country. That and with the 22nd World Junior Hockey Championships (which saw the Junior Ice-a-phants finish fourth and long-time head coach Andy Bailey shown the door) and the IBA Sports Championships (where Elejamie managed to win a gold in mixed doubles table tennis of all sports, plus five bronzes in other sports) both happening at the same time there was absolutely not much room for anything else in such a packed schedule. The contest was still aired, though, as all the regional television stations that make up the Committee of Regional Television Stations showed Harry Boosey win it on home turf with his song Hero, even though he had also failed to get a single set of 5 from any of the seven other countries taking part. Perhaps not getting a set of 5 isn’t as bad as it seems.

However, they still needed to scratch that itch and so against their better judgement they participated in the 113rd WorldVision Song Contest. So much for calling the contest a “monument to drivel” and closing down the WorldVision section, eh lads. However, rather than send some boring girl bop or anything you’d expect from the contest they instead sent the rap group Perdadores, whose song “Odiamos tu canción” (“We hate your song”) was not only an aggressive in-your-face diatribe against a number of things in the music industry that annoyed them but also featured an anarchic stage performance involving breaking tables, breaking CDs, breaking a violin and chucking paint at posters of popular figures (including a few previous WorldVision winners). Surprisingly, while probably not among the favourites to win per se, it was still 6th in the odds with a 7% chance of winning so perhaps they had a chance of finally pulling it off. A WorldVision win had long eluded the country and would probably look nice among their WHF win all the way back in 66. And that wasn’t mentioning that it’d undo all the frustration the competition has caused.

Even more of a surprise, the song was in fourth place going into half-time. Despite a slow and sluggish start, the points started to rack up and they eventually managed to nab a set of 12 courtesy of Mister X, as well as two points from Missus X to give them 55 points at the break. Only a single point behind the Alezian Union, three behind Mother CupcakKe (a nation that could best be described as “don’t judge a book by its cover” as despite the awkward name and flag they tend to put out well-written entries with excellent tunes), and twenty-six points behind Malta Comino Gozo. Elejamie was also tied with Kalosia, who also had 55 points and more top marks, but more countries had voted for Perdadores compared to Adrian di Navaro (ten vs seven) so they had the lead. Surprisingly, they defied expectations by NOT choking in the second half, instead racking up more points like another set of 12 from the Achaean Republic, four sets of 10s (courtesy of Crustyland, Aenglide, StrayaRoos and Adab) and even 8s from Ugunnustan and the Alezian Union. In the end, they managed to finish second with the juries with 133 points, only a decent amount behind Malta Comino Gozo whose lead was pretty much insurmountable. It seemed like the televote would be their saving grace and, indeed, when they managed to get 116 points in the televote to take the top spot it seemed like they had finally broken the curse and they had finally won. Unfortunately Malta Comino Gozo swooped in with a monster 192 points which, when added to their score of 149 from the juries, meant that they had won with an admittedly impressive score of 341 points and shattering the record that Britonisea set last competition for highest winning score without semi-finals.

So, naturally, it was another moment where they had a potential victory ripped from their hands at the very last minute. The fourth time it has happened, and the third time that someone who had already won the contest plenty of times before had taken the crown once again at Elejamie’s expense. As a result of this, Elejamian Broadcasting announced that the country will once again be quitting the WorldVision Song Contest, never to return other than potentially a special edition as an actual grand finale. Furthermore a spokesperson also said that “any attempt to contact us and ask us to reconsider our decision will be referred to the reply given in the famous British case of Arkell v Pressdram from 1971.” At least IC, OOC I’ll be a bit more civil about it but will ultimately declare I have no interest in returning. And with that, the country’s long and storied history and heartbreak at the contest had now reached an end. An unhappy and rather anticlimactic one, but an end nonetheless.

So now it was time to give the World Hit Festival another try. With the schedule a bit less packed and the WHF now the only game in town once again, there was no excuse not to. And rather than do what they did the last time round and push out an established act who had already competed in the WorldVision to decent-to-good results, they decided to settle on someone entirely new. Enter Ampana, the stage name for Andrew Paul Marshall, an up-and-coming bedroom pop artist who had been making waves on social media for his completely self-produced lo-fi work. He had released a couple of EPs to some critical success and currently in the process of making his first album, so naturally this would be a good way of promoting it and him. Not a bad idea, especially since his sound would be a better fit for the WHF than it would the WV. It probably helped that he already had a song in mind, so asking him to come up with something was not necessary.

However, there were a couple of problems with this. The first was that, as a newcomer, a bad placing had a risk of breaking his career before it truly began. Fernsehturm and Lucía Beltrán were able to shake off their poor placings because they were already established acts with decent-sized fanbases (and, in the case of the former, because they admitted that they were a bit too alternative even by World Hit Festival standards). And the second was that Andrew was a rather notorious introvert who never really felt comfortable around people he didn’t know. Even interviews with the guy would awkwardly taper off, as if he really didn’t want to be there. The only real successful interview he’s had was one that was done entirely over the computer through text, as it didn’t require any face-to-face communication and even allowed him time to answer any questions that he could to the best of his abilities.

Unfortunately, the World Hit Festival still wants their broadcasters and their entrants to actually get out there and promote their song. Which meant that Andrew had to appear on TV and talk about his song. Fortunately Mr. Hartnell was an understanding man so he tried to arrange it so that he would either have people he knew and could trust appear with him while he was giving interviews, as well as have him interviewed alongside entrants from other countries. He even did a few test interviews just to help ease Andrew into it and help him become more comfortable. They seemed to help a bit as, while he still seemed like he didn’t want to be there, he was more comfortable answering the questions. It won’t be a permanent fix, though, and after the contest he can be free to just avoid talking to the media when it’s not necessary but for now it seemed to do the job just fine. Apart from interviews, he only really left his hotel room for rehearsals and the odd trip to a restaurant. That wasn’t to say that there wasn’t anything in Baspink for him to do, it’s just that he didn’t really want to do it.

Indeed, during an interview, he explained what his song Soledad was about. He admitted that it was basically about his fears and insecurities making him build a wall around himself, unwilling to make friendships out of a fear that people would hate him or otherwise not want to talk to him. He also said during the same interview: “I also wanted to write a sad song, it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do but I’ve never found anywhere for it to fit in my discography. However, I didn’t want to make it a boring, generic “look at me I’m so sad” song designed to be award bait. Nor did I want to base it off of something that doesn’t apply to me so I wouldn’t want it to be me talking about something that doesn’t affect me at all, something where I wouldn’t be the right person to talk about it.”

And with that, the time had finally come. Andrew couldn’t put it off any longer, he had to get on stage and perform not only for a group of people but also for a huge viewing audience. And, worse, he’ll be judged for it so one wrong move and the house of cards might tumble. However, despite all of these things that might make people feel very uncomfortable, he was surprisingly calm about the whole affair. It was just him and a backing singer on stage, and that was someone he had already known before the competition had even started so it’s not like he was having to rely on some unknown or someone who wasn’t as good as advertised. Not to mention that he just went for a simple staging, something that’d let the music speak for itself without any bells and whistles to distract the people from what was the most important part of the entry. And as he stepped out and took his place, he was hoping that he would give a good result for his country, especially after the downturn they had been going through at the World Hit Festival.

Besides, if this doesn’t work out for one reason or another, they could always participate in NationVision.

Oh, caught my eye, in that bright, white suit
Walking down the street looking cute
Wearing those black, studded designer pants
Waiting on you to make a glance, mm

I want it more, see what’s in store
Like never be-be-be-before
Now that I’m caught, and have been put on the spot
I thought that I’d cuff you up

I’ll dress you in riches for my pleasure all night, just in time, ahh
Did you really think this was for leisure, boy get up and climb, ahh
My velvet kisses, I’ll grant your wishes
Have my luxury and all my affection
I’ll dress you in riches for my pleasure, my favorite pastime
My favorite pastime
For my pleasure, for my pleasure, for my pleasure, yeah

On your body
It might just fit a little tight
Yes, on your body
You can wear whatever the hell you like

I want it more, see what’s in store
Like never be-be-be-before
Now that I’m caught, I’ve just had a brand-new thought
What-what if I called all the shots?

I’ll dress you in riches for my pleasure all night, just in time, ahh
Did you really think this was for leisure, boy get up and climb, ahh
My velvet kisses, I’ll grant your wishes
Have my luxury and all my affection
I’ll dress you in riches for my pleasure, my favorite pastime
My favorite pastime
For my pleasure, for my pleasure, for my pleasure

Take it off, right now
Pull it off, for me
Just right there, that’s it, just right there
Take it off, right now
Pull it off, for me
Just right there, that’s it, just right there

Take it off, right now (I’ll dress you in riches)
Pull it off, for me (for my pleasure)
Just right there, that’s it, just right there (all night, just in time)
Take it off, right now (I’ll dress you in riches)
Pull it off, for me (for my pleasure all night, just in time)
Just right there, that’s it, just right there (For my pleasure, for my pleasure, for my pleasure, yeah)
