General Borodin was sitting at a table already, by the window. It was a strikingly decorated restaurant, perhaps a touch old fashioned, but in a restrained, elegant fashion. He sat at one of the tables, located near the window and with ample space for 3 people. Around him, the room buzzed with coversation as diplomats, party members and the Azmen elite sat, conversed, and most importantly ate. He did not lie, this really was a haunt of Azmeny’s elite, and looked the part too. He gestured to the two noblewomen. “Ah, I’m glad you two could come.” he says. He was wearing an elegant suit, very different to his typical attire of military uniform. He was wearing an elegant golden lapel pin in the shape of the state seal of Azmeny, and a rather expensive watch glinted on his wrist, a cut above the cheap army issued watches he normally wore.

Ana looked at Ilain and shrugged. “I am sure it is.” As they enter the restaurant, her face breaks into a smile. “General! Good to see you! We wouldn’t miss it.” She says, and begins making her way over to the table, taking careful stock of the other guests as she does so.

The Lady Ilain was quick to offer up a smile.
“Thank you, General.”
She drew the seat from the table, and sat down - making sure to examine the environment around her. It was a somewhat relaxed place, although, with something of an elite pomp that is rare in Azmeny.

Ana sat down next to Ilain, and began browsing the menu. “Not bad, not bad… good selection so far. What do you think, Ilain?”

“I could recommend to you the filet mignon. The chef prides himself on it, he claims he could cook it blindfolded. Although I’d say a few drinks are in order.”

Just then, a smiling, energetic, slightly portly man appeared from the general direction of the kitchen. He is middle aged, has dark hair streaked with grey and a large smile splitting his slightly red face. “Ah, Vassily!” he says, “what an unexpected pleasure!”, he says, shaking Borodin’s hand enthusiastically. “Now, what can I get for you and the two ladies today?”

Borodin says “the soup is very good- I could highly recommend it. Though I’d also preferably have the steak. In the military you forget what food tastes like, you know.”

“Well, I’ll have the tomato soup, I suppose. And, if you would have it, a nice cognac.”
After making her order, she turns to General Borodin.
“I wouldn’t say so. I was a Subcommander of the Imperial Guard - reconnaissance unit. 11 years, before I switched to diplomatic duties.”
“Anyways, even in the middle of nowhere, you could still find quite lovely food in the environment - our rations aren’t so bad, either. It’s also a psychological thing. When the enemy finds out that you are dining on wine and caviar while they’re eating nutrient bars, it tends to demoralize them.”

After making her order, she turns to General Borodin.

“Azmen soldiers could be comfortable living off the land- but we don’t always fight in terrain where there’s ample food for 100,000 men- so combat rations it is. Seriously, food in Azmeny’s military is lacking severely for sure, but we don’t have a choice. Besides, it’s almost a rite of psssage, your first combat ration. The older conscripts find it quite fun to see the reactions the fresh recruits have. Anyway, I trust this meal will be far superior.”

“I think terrible rations can be good motivator. If you catch what you are hunting, you can eat something better. And during war, sooner you win sooner you can go home and have something real to eat.”

“So we all served in some sort of combat role? We are table of fighters.” Ana says with a smile. “It is much easier to befriend fellow warriors than befriending those who… don’t understand.”

She glances at General Borodin, and briefly catalogues the events that could be shared in Azmen company. “Well, I assume you mean hunting? One time I was with my Uncle Vasily in Xofrauten looking for White Bengal Tigers. After several days in wilderness we were able to find one and bring the rare beast down.”

She had recalled reading the reports of something of a fiasco that took place there, after the region deployed a massive fleet to the area.
