ROYAL BIRTHDAY BASH

Citizens of Amaranth and the other regencies of Carmini are preparing themselves for the event of the year - the birthday of Her Graceful Highness, Queen of the Roses, Juliana I.

The Rose Queen's birthday is an important milestone number this year, being as it is her 25th such occasion.

Queen Juliana was born in the Palace of the Rose on 1st June 1991, to King James VI and the Queen Consort, Elizabeth Rose (neé Burgund), and immediately became a media darling. The Amaranth Announcer was just one of many newspapers to be invited to an enormous celebratory press event that evening, during which the King gave an emotional speech about his new daughter to the assembled journalists.

As is tradition, the young princess was shown off to the world several days later from the Grand Balcony of the Palace, draped in velvet blankets, to a record-breaking crowd of thousands of adoring subjects on the parade street below. The sound of cameras clicking was said to be deafening, but the baby princess seemed unfettered by the commotion. This was her first, but far from her last, public appearance, and she handled it with aplomb.

The only child of the late King, Juliana was groomed to be the next ruler of Carmini from an early age than is usual after her father was diagnosed with cancer. She was thrust into her new role as head of state in 2012, at the tender age of 21, after the sad passing of King James.

Since then she has become one of the most popular monarchs in Carminian history, consistently achieving more than 80% approval in public polls.

Celebrations are planned for the 1st June event across the island, with Arch-Regent Benjamin heading up the newly-formed Rose Queen's Birthday Committee.

"It is my honour to play a leading role in ushering-in Her Graceful Highness' 25th year on this Earth," Benjamin told the press. "I am working all evenings to ensure that the celebrations are of a quality befitting this nation's beloved Rose Queen.

"All loyal subjects of Carmini are invited to participate in street parties across the country, which the Queen has graciously paid for with her own personal funds.

"Feasting, dancing, fireworks and a general good-spirit are what we hope to provide."

There is expected to be a banquet in the Palace of the Rose in the evening of 1st June, to which most Carminian nobility has been invited. And Queen Juliana herself will deliver a speech on television in the morning, where she is expected to give her thanks to the people of Carmini for their well wishes.

The Arch-Regent also announced that foreign dignitaries will be invited to a celebratory event the following day, also to be held at the Palace.

"Her Graceful Highness should like to celebrate her special day with the leaders of the world as well, that we might promote good will and positive relations with everybody," the Arch-Regent said. "You shall find invitations in your official correspondences over the coming days. Queen Juliana hopes that you shall be able to attend."

In a separate announcement, the Council of Regents said that June 1st is to be a national holiday, enabling all Carminians to take part in the festivities.

Vannish Foreign Legion Knee Deep in It
1 JUN 2016

3rd battalion, 2nd Vannish Foreign Legion Regiment has been in Al-Khalifiya for 2 months now. They have worked with the people of Fire Valley, bringing them supplies, helping them make repairs to their settlements, and upgrading their militia.

Surplus m-16's were handed down to the militia commander, who passed the weapons onto military age males. For the next few weeks, the Legionnaires taught the militia some advanced shooting drills, like ready-ups or urban movement. Based on what the Vangazi saw, there hadn't been much formal training in the militia.

Lt. Matt Joneston has been working with militia leadership to build a program and establish training. He gave them all the info they need to run the militia like a garrison. The soldiers' skills must be sharpened every day.

But of course, they spent a good deal of time on patrol or in combat. This is major 'Red Wind' territory, which is the terror group that attacked Vangaziland and is fighting the change of the new, Pro-Vangaziland government.

So far the legion has lost 8 people and has had 21 wounded. It's tough on the soldiers here.

"The average soldier tries to keep his cool", said SGT Jose Garcia. "We know the Fire Valley is important. Hopefully we get rid of all the bad guys and this place can prosper."

"3-2 Foreign Legion is doing exactly what they need to do. They're building ties with the locals and putting the heat on the enemy", said General H. Applebind. "Their unit Is one of many deployed, doing their part."

Hadrin's Fever: Quarantine camp in Seryechi prefecture breached by refugees

Hardov CD - Close to midnight yesterday, border guards working at the Seryechi Prefecture Quarantine Camp in the Hardov Crown Dominion reported that a fire had been started in the camp's residential quarter, used to house Aralandic plague refugees cleared for entry but who had not yet been provided with valid papers for crossing the border. The fire quickly began to spread throughout the camp, and as both residents and camp personnel alike battled to contain it, refugees still awaiting medical examination on the other side of the border used the fire as a distraction while they crossed the border - at one point, a bus was reportedly used to tear down the chain-link fence that had been put up to prevent contamination of the colony.

600 people have been confirmed as casualties in the fire, and many more may have lost their lives or been injured as soldiers of the Imperial Army reinforced the camp, stemming the flow of refugees by force - a necessary sacrifice, perhaps.

The camp, and three others like it, located at different points on the Colonial Kolish-Aralandic border, has been in operation since the start of the Hadrin's Fever epidemic, and while initially successful in quickly processing refugees fleeing the plague, has quickly overgrown it's initial boundaries, spawning vast tent cities on both sides of the crossing. Crown Authorities have desperately sought to manage the ever increasing flow of humanity, and has called upon charities and regional allies to help distribute the refugees still awaiting legal clearance to settle in Kolish territory. Last week, the former Konzhun, Viola vi Zhutsik, took ten families confirmed to be clear of disease into her clan’s custody, but the numbers have built day by day.

Current estimates state that as many as 800,000 people have applied or are/were waiting to apply for refugee status prior to yesterday’s disaster. But only 15,000 have thus far been cleared for entry, and the Aralandic government, seeking humanitarian aid via the Ordic League and Colonial Association, have warned that as the epidemic in Aralande gets worse, the risk of the virus spreading into neighbouring countries is multiplied elevenfold. And it is likely their predictions may have become a prophecy; with the breach in the Kolish border allowing hundreds or even thousands of potentially infected individuals into the colony, and rumours of contamination in Khorneran refugee camps.

Since August last year, Aralande has faced a plague that has gone largely unknown in the rest of the world; Hadrin's Fever. First identified by Khorneran colonists in the 1960s, it is named after the Auridite Saint of the same name. At the time of it's discovery, the illness, while horrific, never gained much of a foothold, and only isolated cases have been reported since then, which until the diseases' sudden resurgence in Northern Osova, had been steadily decreasing in frequency, as hygiene standards across the relatively impoverished continent have soared.

Symptoms of the disease include intense fever, accompanied by sweating and violent shivering, which worsen, becoming outright spasms and convulsions as the disease progresses. In the later stages, patients experience constant coughing and vomiting - often containing blood. Untreated, the disease kills within a week or two. As it is caused by a virus, antibiotics have proven ineffective, and insufficient research has been done into the sickness to produce a vaccine. Even if this was done, vaccinating all of the populations at risk from the disease now that it has escaped Aralandic borders would require “an unprecedented amount of international cooperation.” says Professor Evanis vi Lex, a medical expert from Prospero Imperial University, “If the fever truly has left Aralande, the ICA would have to band together and wage a serious campaign against the disease. And the continent of Osova would have to cooperate, or else.”

Some aid has of course been provided to Aralande since the outbreak began, through the existing, though limited, Ordic League peacekeeping mission, which has been present in the country since the 1998 Civil War. But it has not been enough to reduce the impact of the epidemic on society, which has led to the current refugee crisis.

Konzhun Valhyldra vi Espargyr has condemned the “selfish actions” of the refugees who executed the breakthrough, and has proposed the immediate construction of five more quarantine camps on the border, and further deployment of the Imperial Army, to the diet,, with an eye towards preventing further outbreaks. The governor of the Hardov Crown Dominion has welcomed this move, as has the Emperor (Long may he reign!) who, through an Imperial Ordnance, created a special taskforce under the control of the Colonial Government to find ways of re-containing the plague before it spreads to major population centers, or worse, outside Osova.

The breach has now been closed, but those behind the fire, and the unprocessed refugees who used it as a chance to escape are still on the loose somewhere in the Hardovic wilderness and countryside, pursued by officers of the State Security services. Processed refugees who survived the fire have been contained once more to check for contamination, and will be issued temporary passports upon release, to ease the burden on the border camps.

Sulphur mining was was halted near the Montaña de Fuego, the eastern volcano of the Isles de Azucar.

Miners, the native Pájaro people, and the Garde Civil worked hard and in dangerous conditions to save people trapped. A geyser formed and flooded the area in boiling mineral water. Ships where dispatched to bring the injured to Puerto Bravado.

The Viceroy made a appearance in the square to express his condolences.

The Head of the West Isles Trading Co. WITC is figuring on a way to utilize the mineral water. After word had reached the continent, when the water settled many people found there aches and injuries would heal much faster when exposed to the waters. Many people began to huddle on the docks at Magritta to get on a ship to the islands and be cured.

This is an important island for resources and loss of production could mean more lost coin for the Crown. But this discovery may lead to more workers and craftsman coming to the Isles.

SPECIAL REPORT: PRESIDENT EARLY IMPEACHED
Assembly votes 176-65-11 for first ever impeachment. 97 members of Mountain Alliance vote in favor

KNOXVILLE -- It is a historic time for Appalachia, and also one of great uncertainty. The lower house of parliament, the Assembly, voted in favor of impeaching President William Early. As stated in the Constitution, a 2/3rds majority vote (168) is required for impeachment. The vote passed 176-65, with 11 Assemblymen abstaining. The next step will be a trial, which will be presided over by the Chief Justice of the High Court and the outcome voted on by the Senate. If a 2/3rds vote (32) passes the Senate, President Early will be removed from office immediately. Additionally, Vice President McLoughlin will serve for only as long as it takes for a new election to be organized and held.

Sixth President of the Republic
President Early has been in office for 10 months. He was the Vice President for previous President Richard Bennett, and was elected as his successor in an extremely close election in which he won by only 18,000 votes against his more liberal opponent, Union Party candidate Teresa Bell. There was extreme evidence of voter fraud, including voter intimidation and vote-buying in the outer provinces. Early denied having any involvement, but the evidence was significant enough that the High Court ordered a new election.

Before this new election could take place, however, President Bennett was assassinated by an anarchist terrorist group known as the Children of the Mountains. Early took over by virtue of being vice president, and waged a costly but ultimately successful six-month war against the terrorist group. After the conflict ended and the emergency was declared over, Early won the re-vote ordered by the High Court by over 90,000 votes, likely because of positive approval of his handling of the terrorist crisis.

"Traitor isn't too strong a word."
Those were the words used by Great Valley Province Assemblywoman Melba Strongs, a member of Early's own party, the Mountain Alliance, who has been in office for 20 years. The vote was called for by Strongs in response to the latest report from the Federal Rangers, who are investigating claims of voter fraud in the election that the High Court overturned. The 357-page report, announced in a press conference last Wednesday, became known to the press as the Hassan Report. It is so named for its chief investigator, Special Agent Ahmad Hassan.

The report stated that despite his previous claims, President Early was deeply involved in voter intimidation and vote-buying practices, particularly in Greenbrier and Coalfields provinces (the most impoverished in the Republic). According to those interviewed by the investigators, he organized a system of political bosses behind President Bennett's back. Impoverished voters were offered up to $500 to vote for the Mountain Alliance. Others were threatened with violence, a man said that one representative of the Alliance told him "we'll know you vote for, and if you and your wife don't vote right we'll burn your [expletive deleted] house down." The investigation showed that these threats could have been carried out, as elections workers in these areas were bribed, with one being payed over $9500, to show ballots to local bosses. These ballots are numbered, which when checked against the voter registry (which is meant to be closely guarded) can reveal which ballot belongs to which voter.

One section of the report alleges that Early went as far as to put his own money towards these bribes. President Early held a press conference denying all claims of the Hassan Report, calling it "a fiction" and stating that the truth would come out in the Senate. He chided members of the Assembly for creating a distraction during what he calls a critical time for Appalachia as it continues to recover from the war against the terrorists.

The End of an Era?
The Mountain Alliance, which has been in power in both the Executive and Legislature since independence in 1981, has started to lose its hold on the government. The two other parties, the leftist Union Party and right-wing Heritage party, both gain more seats with each election. The Alliance currently only holds onto its majority in the Assembly by 20 seats, down from 35 in the previous session, and in the Seante by only 3 seats.

Leader of the Union Party (which is closest to the Alliance in terms of ideology) Annmarie Stevenson (Tennessee Province) has stated that a coalition is out of the question, which means if in two years the Mountain Alliance loses its majority in either chamber there would be a hung parliament. This would make it much harder for legislation to pass. It also remains to be seen, if Early is impeached, who would be nominated from the Alliance for President. Considering how close the last election was and the possible loss of support because of the Hassan Report, they would be at risk of losing the office for the first time.

The vote for impeachment highlights a sharp ideological divide that has formed between the Mountain Alliance in the Northern provinces vs those in the Central and Southern provinces. Many members from Altoona and Susquehanna provinces have been sharply critical of President Early and the apparent corruption occurring in the party throughout the rest of the nation. Last month's defection of Susquehanna senator Jana Wiseman to the Union party cut the Alliance's majority in the Senate down to 3, a historic low. Wiseman made a speech suggesting all Alliance members who have not been caught in the President's "web of lies and corruption" consider doing the same.

"For the good of our democracy."
A quote from Assemblyman Steven Lightman (MA-Allegheny), who co-sponsored the impeachment vote. The Mountain Alliance is taking a gamble by impeaching President Early. Alliance members supporting impeachment believe that the damage done by the Hassan Report will be fatal to the party if they do not take strong action against the President. Of the 146 Alliance assemblymen, 97 (66%) voted for impeachment. There was a small amount opposition as well from both the Union and Heritage parties, with assemblymen from those agreeing with the President that now is not the time to divide the country.

Vice President McLoughlin, and many of the Alliance assemblymen that voted against impeachment, are also implicated in the Hassan report. All impeachment proceedings for offices other than the President and Chief Justice require only a simple majority vote in each chamber, and it remains to be seen if the Assembly will attempt to impeach any of its own members.

Also called out in the report is Greenbriar Province governor Gordon Hatchett. As is Coalfields Province governor Roy Lingerfelt, who during the period investigated in the report was serving as Deputy Governor (Coalfields Province Governor Elias Burton was killed in the terrorist bombing of the provincial capitol last December, along with over half of the Provincial Assembly). Both are members of the Mountain Alliance. A vote to impeach Governor Hatchett in the Greenbrier Provincial Assembly is expected before the end of the week. Because the Coalfields Provincial assembly has not yet been reformed (with elections taking place next week), it is unknown what action, if any, the reformed assembly will take against Governor Lingerfelt.

Chief Justice Jefferies

The Impeachment trial in the Senate will begin in the first week of July. Presiding will be Chief Justice Paul Jefferies, who has a reputation for being non-partisan and for asking tough questions to all who appear in his court. Representing the Assembly as 'solicitor' will be Assemblyman Lightman, a well known lawyer before his election. Helping defend the President will be the Federal Attorney-General, Edward Byrdcliffe. President Early will have a tough battle. Particularly because some senators have already stated that evidence in the Hassan Report is conclusive enough to warrant his removal.

The Carrier's route is to sail through the panama canal by the 15th, and to arrive in Pyongyang by June 25th. This is in light of the West's recent military drills that they hold yearly, and the carrier is the first of two flattops that will be sent to conduct drills with the north. The Other Carrier, the Sarah II, will leave port on the 20th, once repairs from an act of sabotage are completed. The Ships skipper, Captain John C. Tao,is an experienced sea dog with more than fifteen years of service in the carriebean navy under his belt,and was a perfect pick for the job. upon hearing of the mission, the United States ambassador to carriebean, Roberta S. Jacobson, released a statement, noting

"While we applaud the carriebeanian efforts to the continuing stability of the [Korean Pensiula], we feel as though the ship was a bit unnecessary, as the North Koreans may try and seize the vessel for their own power, and we,[The United States] cannot, will not and must not let the outcome of a nuclear carrier armed Korea come to fruition. we ask that the Carriebean Leaders acknowledge the dangers of this mission and take the necessary precautions so that the nation [of Korea] will not have an advantage in the region."

Following a new law introduced by Uncle Happy, it is now illegal for ordinary citizens (not Party members, Happy Patrol, or foreigners) to specify exact quantities using any kind of number or counting system, either verbally or non-verbally. In preparation for the ban to be enacted, numbers and mathematics are already being phased out across Uncle Happy schools. From now on, citizens will be taught to express all small or relatively less quantities as "few", and all large or relatively greater quantities as "many".

In addition, this ban on absolute quantities will also apply to time. From now on, a particular time will only be specified as "early" or "late", and dates will be expressed as "today", "yesterday", or "tomorrow". There is no way to express a date before "yesterday" or after "tomorrow", as citizens should not allowed to think about the past or the future. Every sundial in the nation is being replaced to remove the numbered time markings; citizens do not have clocks as those are already banned.

This ban, proposed by the director of the Happy Patrol, has received wide support from the Party. It is said to improve public order and national security. As always, Party members, as the brains of the nation, and tourists, as the primary revenue, will be exempt from the ban on numbers and math.

Military Officials Consider Using AI to Conduct Missions in the Territorial Planets

With the recent innovations made to AI robots to be used in the military, General of the Army Thoko Masson as well as other military officials considered to use Artificial Soliders to aid in the development of human civilization on Ndaku's colonized planets; Mars, ANTINO-201b, ANTINO 21b, and ANTINO-172a. Ndaku's biggest human allied nations, Britonisea, Andzhalswoodosia, Retiva, and Sparkdottir, have taken part in developing human civilization on Mars. It has been discussed in an international summit held in Eeaux, Britonisea, to unite all space programs to increase the rate of civilization building in the 3 habitable planets just a few light years away.

The types of AI that would be sent to these planets would be programmed to excel in construction and engineering in order to speed up the development, and with the technological capabilities that lie in the Ndakene military, sending these beings to the said territorial planets would be possible.

Computer scientist and engineer Masozi Alfarsi provides his insight on the matter: "Another advantage of having these robots on our planets is they will also be programmed to identify any natural interference, such as storms, local wildlife surprises, and even forecast the weather. We are hoping to send at least twenty to each district so that the combined artificial brain power would be enough to construct a developed civilization in less than 1 in a half Earth years. Truly, this would be a marvel to the human expansion in the universe. This is just the beginning."

Scientists and military officials predict by 2128 cities will be constructed in all extraterrestrial districts. The advancement of technology and expansion continues onward!

The rest of the 14 seats are distributed to independents, minor local parties and Falange.

Duterte won most of Mindanao and Western Visayas, as well as Sulu and the Pacific. While Roxas and Kasitche each battled Eastern and Central Visayas, Northern Luzon and the Rizal-Bonifacio Province. Binay and Mariano equally battled the same area, while Señeres only won Bicol.

Great Britain votes to leave the European Union
THE PUBLIC of Great Britain have shocked analysts with a win for the 'leave' side of the referendum. Though it seemed the UK would be remaining in the Union in polls released just prior to voting, a vote to leave in the end received 52% of the vote, with remain only 48%. The first news of the surprise win came from the council of Sunderland, where a 6% lead was required for the leave campaign to have a chance of winning. Astoundingly, 61% of people in the city voted for to leave, putting the campaign well on its way to its eventual victory. Despite wins in all Scotch councils, and much of London and other large cities, the 'remain' campaign failed to convince the majority of voters, in a referendum with one of the largest turnouts in British history. The pound has plummetted to twenty year lows, with one penny Gire worth 37 pence Stirling. The Prime Minister, the Duke of Limmes, to-day released a statement welcoming the result and said that it was 'a triumph for the common man'. It is expected that the British Prime Minister, Mr David Cameron, will resign shortly.

Latin to be replaced in modernisation drive
DESPITE IT being one of the last strongholds in the modern world of the dying language, the Bishop of Rhise has to-day announced that from Michaelmas this year, churches within the Diocese of Rhise will have the option of conducting services in English or Latin. Currently, only Christenings and announcements are said in the vernacular. He said that 'Latin Rite across the world, even in the Catholic Church' is being replaced by the vernacular. This change will mean parishioners will be able to be closer to Him by conversing in a common language'. The move comes in contrast with the recent Board of Schools policy to allocate over ten thousand pounds for the training, education and promotion of Latin within schools. Latin is still one of the four compulsory subjects for the General Examinations in the Second Form, along with English, Mathematics and History. Currently, it is estimated that 60% of scholarly articles and books published in Nortend is written in Latin. It is estimated further than 43% of the population is able to understand and converse in basic Latin. The Bishop has been known previously for his liberal views, with his support of the ordination of women, currently forbidden within the Church in Hambria. His views have attracted scorn from the general public, with many wishing for him to be removed from his post. It is unknown how many parishes intend to adopt the changes, though some sources say there is great opposition from the mainly Cardo-Catholic population.

Brazen thief steals sausage crown
A THIEF has stolen the famous sausage crown of Dormouth in the late hours of last night. The famous five stone crown, made of a long string of sausages, is made ever year in the tiny town in a tradition that dates back to the middle ages. The local police are appealing for any witnesses or information relating to the crime, which locals have labelled as a 'dispicable act'.
