Last night in Monterra, Syrian-Kalosian singer Nawra won the 18th Festival di Melodi Kalosiana, RTVK's national final for the 24th World Hit Festival, with the song Lë Vojaǧo (The Journey). Thus, she will be the Kalosian entrant performing next month in Caen, Normandy & Picardy.

Nawra, real name Nawra Halabi, is a 20-year old Syrian-Kalosian whose parents moved to Kalosia when she was just 2 years old. She respects her Syrian roots deeply, and until 2010, visited the country regularly. The song, whose lyrics are written by Nawra herself, is a ballad with slight Middle-Eastern influence.

MONTERRA — Less than a week after both acts were announced as entrants, Nawra and Ǧamilah, who will represent Kalosia in the upcoming World Hit Festival and the WorldVision Song Contest respectively, have found themselves in controversy. There are various racist comments online surrounding them both being only half Kalosian, although separately. Such netizens believe that the nation should be represented by "actual Kalosians" who are "a more accurate representation of the average Kalosian", however these comments have been dismissed by the RTVK, stating that the company "values ethnical diversity". Various other netizens have spoken out in defense of Nawra and Ǧamilah, and it is believed that there will be no change made towards these entries.

One particular accusation against Nawra is politicisation of WHF and the lack of Kalosian identity in her song, despite being entirely in Kalosian, due to the fact that the song is about Syrian refugees (Nawra herself is Syrian-Kalosian). Nawra and her delegation have yet to comment however it is believed that preparations will continue for Caen. Her song, Lë Vojaǧo (the Journey), is currently considered a dark horse to win the festival.

There seems to be an issue with "ethnic diversity", which indicates the discrimination is more of nationality, but, given the fact Kalosia stated there is racial controversy, I'm assuming the half-Kalosians have different skin colours.

Race/ethnicity. Perhaps I should've said "of mixed ethnicity" rather than "Syrian-Kalosian", if that's what's confusing you?

Kalosia is an island nation situated in the Mediterranean, just below where France is, which is why the migrant issue is particularly sensitive.
