The year is 1750. You have come to power in your country and must make your mark on history. Your goal: Dominance. Your tools: War, Diplomacy, Subterfuge. Conquer territory, dominate trade routes, craft alliances, control resources, and watch your empire rise.
Before this RP begins, a few rules:
Don’t be a jerk. Don’t godmod, don’t metagame, don’t one liner post in the IC thread. This is supposed to be fun. Second, this a realistic situation. No machine guns until 1885. No Gatling guns until 1862. No submarines until 1770. Make sure that your technology is period accurate. If you have bolt action rifles in 1791, you are wrong. If you have M-16s in the 19th Century, you are wrong.
Territory claims will be up to the Co-OPs. A good rule of thumb is to keep them moderately sized. If it is an entire continent, then it won’t work. The exception to that rule is Australia, since it has a low population.
Be realistic in your population claims. South Korea will not get a billion people and Malta won’t get a population like the United States. Use the Real Life population of your claim. Google it, Bing it, find a book about it. Just make it as close to the RL population as possible. Your military population should not exceed 10% of your total population. How you divide that military is up to you, but it should not be more than 10%. Once you are accepted, you can increase the size of your forces through Conscription, though that is not recommended due to economics.
Military personnel are subject to morale. If they suffer heavy casualties in a charge, they will be suffering from low morale. On the other hand, if they are winning they will have high morale.
When fighting wars or making treaties with other players, send them a NS telegram, letting them know and asking for information. If it is a war, tell them where your invading army is and ask if there are defending forces in that area. That is where the war will start. Do not make one liner posts and remember that conquest takes time. You can’t say “Britain marches 1,000,000 men into Russia, seizing it.” That is not only a godmod, that is also completely impossible. It is Russia and Britain can’t just march into Russia. Wars in this RP will require extensive thought. With treaties and alliances, send a telegram informing the other player of your intentions. Then mention them in the treaty post, stating your offers/demands and requesting their answer. NO SECRET TREATIES!
Resources are important. The following resources are the most important immediately: Wood, Cotton, Tobacco, Sugar, Coffee, and Tea. Later it will be Oil, Uranium, Steel, Lithium, and other strategic elements like Titanium and Tungsten. When beginning trade, telegram the targeted nation or nations and tell them of your intent. Then post to the thread what you offer and what you demand.
I almost forgot. You can also use telegrams to play two rivals against each other. If they go to war, they will likely be severely weakened and you can expand into their territory. This is probably the hardest thing to do, as it will require a significant amount of thought.
Time is actually a very simple thing here: 1 Real Life Month is equal to 1 Year in the Role Play. If there is any confusion as to what the RP date is on any particular day, Brabantum or I will be more than willing to help.
