Welcome to the headquarters of L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E., a joint task force of the International Freedom Coalition charged with protecting the nations of the IFC and humanity from the scourge of the most dangerous forces and enemies on Earth, and from the stars. Commissioned by the Prime Minister in 2015, after seeing that a new threat to humanity seemed to rear its ugly head almost daily, and the bureaucracy and diplomacy of the IFC meant a slower response time, and higher casualties while attempting to reason with enemies that could not be reasoned with. It was therefore agreed that a clandestine organization would be set up in an attempt to find unorthodox ways to stop dangers before they started to become one. Within this effort, it was suggested that the nations of the IFC unite some of their greatest and most gifted heroes under the banner of the Retribution Company.

These are the stories of the men and women who serve the IFC through L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E. and the Retribution Company...

House Rules
- This is an OOC only thread. Ongoing RPs will take place ICly in other threads.
- Unlike our normal IFC canon, there is more leniency to allow the creation of your "superhero", but keep in mind that physics on the planet have not been altered.
- Unlike diplomatic RPs, this one is entirely character-driven.
- At the moment, I'm asking you to pick to apply as an agent, or superhero to ensure that we aren't inundated with characters. For the moment a limit of one character per nation will exist.

You don't have to be human, this is a chance to play with less restricted rules, so be creative!

(This also reminds me to make any IC threads related to this under somewhere else, like Portal to the Multiverse, in the future...I goofed!)

Okay, as long as the mods are fine with it (and I've received no message or anything to the contrary) then I will not worry too much. My concern is that I'm letting us be a little more "broad" on where our characters come from. Not trying to discriminate against FT nations, but that is where the lines between the forums become really grey (just as a general observation)... but if your people have an affiliation to your country of origin, I don't think this should be a problem.

Brief Biography:

Born to Ryan and Rosheen Rinne of Cloud-top Keep, the distant cousins of the ruling family of the Island of Danu, the Morcants, Ravenna had a normal enough, though isolated early childhood high in the Danu Mountains of Snowy Pass. However, since birth, Ravenna was the victim of a dream, where her parents and herself were kidnapped. They would be threatened by a burning wolf, but Ravenna always escaped, seeming to fly through an open window just as her parents were murdered. Though she did not tell her parents of this strange recurring vision until she was 8, her parents thought it was nothing more than the concerns and worries of a cloistered young Lady, who had an unhealthy fear of anything outside the families mountain-top residence, and therefore her father and mother sent her to stay with her aunt, the Queen of Skyview Castle in Arianrhod, much closer to the city.

In her new setting, Ravenna thrived, and any thought of her visions disappeared, as they made less frequent visits to her at night. She grew to enjoy learning about her family's history, especially the so-called "secret power of the Rinnes", who were said to be skin-changers by the locals in the past, though much of this was dismissed as superstition of the family's isolated castle residence. The same was believed of the story of the Dragon Blades, Torrann (Thunder) and Braidseal (Inferno), a pair of ancient swords of the oldest monarchs, said only to be fully wielded by those of the royal blood line, touched by Morrigan. Alone they were just swords, but wielded by one of the "Raven's Blood", they had powerful properties to create storms, blazes, as well as summoning the mighty dragon Zeydaan Deinmaar (Justice Keeper). The blades had been supposedly secreted away somewhere around Cloud-top Keep, but even with years of investigation, no one had ever found the mythical swords. She also took to construction and engineering, and loved to explore the old parts of Skyview Castle, mesmerized by their simple architectural beauty.

After taking over his father's company, Ryan and Rosheen moved to a residence within Dovenn City, so that Ryan might take a much more hands on approach. The company thrived under his leadership making incredible advances in everything from civilian to military technologies. At the age of 10, Ravenna moved back to her family, and along with it, her visions returned. At 16, Ravenna had a close call, when on an excursion with her friends, base-jumping not far from her family home, her chute failed to open, but some how, miraculously, she managed to land without injury. Her friends reported seeing her fall, and out of no where a flock of ravens appeared, seeming to catch Ravenna up, and set her down on the ground. None of them ever spoke of it, and Ravenna never explained what had happened, as she didn't know why or how, but she knew she had somehow called the ravens to her assistance. At the age of 18, Ravenna went off to university in the city, but came home on the weekends to see them. She settled on a degree in history and mechanical engineering, combining her love of the past with her interest in making things.

Unfortunately, the dream came true, a month after her graduation, when the family was pulled from their beds in the middle of the night by a group of thugs, and taken to a warehouse somewhere. The thugs threatened her father, demanding that he immediately cancel the contract he had with the police, that would give the cops an edge, technologically, in curbing some of the crime in the city. Her father refused, and they shot Rosheen. They would have shot Ravenna as well, but in that terrifying moment, she responded as she did during her near death base jump, and the room was suddenly filled with ravens, smashing through the windows and skylights, descending on the criminals, and causing a panic. One of the thugs attempted to fight back, but was nearly pecked to death for trying. The man, Ravenna had come to know as the flaming wolf from her dream ran for the door, leaving the others to fend for themselves, turning back towards his hostages, he fired blindly into the flock, hitting Ravenna's father in the process, and killing him.

Ravenna, blacked out soon after, and regained consciousness to find that her parents were both dead, and the thugs that had held them were also dead, appearing to have been pecked to death, though no sign of a single bird or feather was found within the warehouse. The cops had arrived in response to the sound of the dying thugs, but found Ravenna unconscious, surrounded by the bodies, still tied to a chair. The five years was a black blur to Ravenna, attending her parents' funeral, attending to her family's holdings in Snowy Pass, as the heir to the estate, and eventually taking on the responsibilities of running Rinne Industries. Most days she just laid in bed, unresponsive, a prisoner in her own body, blaming herself for her parents' death, and not being able to take action sooner to stop their deaths. Eventually, she was coaxed out of her slump by her lady's maid, Mrs. Fiona Finnegan, who had long looked after her. In the year since her father's death, the contract with the police force had been dropped, a note having been left at the scene of the crime had threatened further action against Rinne Industries, and the board, in the absence of any feedback from Ravenna, had decided to pull out of their contract. Dovenn City had become more corrupt, and it didn't take long to see that something had to be done.

Unfortunately, it was too little too late, when Ravenna approached many on the police force about setting up a new contract, as many of the cops were now corrupt, the legal system was falling apart, and even if Rinne Industries did deliver a contract, they would only be putting weapons in the hands of criminals. Crushed by this realization, and unsure what to do, Ravenna returned home, looking to find some answer, and to deal with her long-dead parents' belongings. It was going through her father's safe, that she found old notes, detailing an extensive effort he had made at finding the Dragon Blades. Unfortunately, though, he did not possess the Rinne "abilities", and though he had found a secret door in one of the subbasements of the castle, he could not open it. Ravenna followed the notes, finding the door. Her father had noted that he had tried pulling the large handle, but it wouldn't budge. He had experts look at the door, but all had determined that the door, and no matter what they tried, machinery failed to respond near the door, and and attempts to find a way around it proved futile. Standing in front of the door, Ravenna had felt foolish, but pulled the handle anyway.

It moved without any resistance, the door seemingly swinging open on its own. Beyond that was a sizable cavern, and in the centre, an ancient, rotting, stand holding two spotless swords. Ravenna found them to be extremely light for their size, and sharp for their age, though they looked like they had been made yesterday. Giddily she grabbed the nearest one, swinging it slowly on a diagonal through the air. As she swung, she noticed sparks arching off the blade, and a gust of wind blowing across the cave. She put it down, grabbing the other sword, she tried the same thing, swinging it harder, and watching with glee as a fireball lit up the cave, screaming towards the back wall. She played at this for hours, still not believing that any of this could be real, when she tapped the two blades together. A thunderous noise filled the cave, and Ravenna found herself face-to-face with the biggest dragon she had ever seen. Even more surprising, it opened its mouth and spoke to her, declaring her the child of Morrigan, destined to find the Dragon Blades Torrann and Braidseal, entrusted to the faithful servants of the First King, in the ancient legends. He introduced himself as Zeydaan Deinmaar, a servant of the great Morrigan, and protector of the Dragon Blades. He was bound to them, and their song gave him new life.

It took awhile to have all her questions answered, but Ravenna soon learned that she did indeed have the Rinne gift, which included the ability to summon ravens, take control of beasts, and receive visions of the future. Unfortunately these visions were not something she could choose to see, and came upon her on their own will. This was why the ancient Rinnes were often considered "cursed". She also had the ability to activate the ancient swords, making full extend of their powers. Ensuring she wasn't going crazy, she brought Fiona Finnegan in on her findings. Mrs. Finnegan seemed unsurprised, as she said that Ravenna had always seemed to exhibit some abilities as a a child that seemed to go beyond normal human understanding, but had kept quiet after Rosheen had reacted with worry, that this would only fuel her husband's interest in finding the lost Dragon Blades. Deciding it would be for the best if she and Fiona kept quiet about the find, Ravenna came to the realization that she could make a difference against crime after all.

Since then she has used her family's business and researched technology to create non-lethal weapons, in an attempt to prevent needless deaths, while honing her own skill with the magic blades to incapacitate others with them, using lethal force only when necessary.

Special Skills/Powers (Agents may have special training): Control over animals, ability to call upon flocks of ravens, skilled in hand-to-hand combat, swordsmanship/fencing, small arms training, uncontrolled visions of the future. Has advanced mechanical design skills to go with a high intelligence, along with a familiarity and comfortability with computers and programming.
Personality Quirks: Smart, and she knows it, with a tendency to be cocky among her peers. Due to the death of her parents, she often acts cold towards anyone getting too close to her, and she often isolates herself, preferring to brood in private. She often masks her emotions, with making sarcastic and witty jokes, sometimes at the expense of others. While she feels strongly in a need to protect the innocent, she still has a tendency to be somewhat self-absorbed, and takes few measures to hide her identity, preferring to flaunt her abilities, equipment and skill.

Boeing C-17B Globemaster
Developed from the standard Boeing C-17B 'Globemaster' utilized by the OS Air Force, the C-17B is an extended-range airborne command post and transport aircraft utilized by OSAF TENCAP units and L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E. for missions around the world. Though twice as heavy as the standard C-17, it still maintains use of smaller runways through the use of JATO rockets.
Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II
The Lockheed Martin F-35C is a highly capable carrier-based stealth multi-role fighter that has been adopted by a single OSAF fighter wing, the 181st Fighter Wing, for use aboard OSS Pegasus, OSS Thunderbird, and OSS Pheonix. Though built for the OS Navy, a secondary order for of 245 aircraft for use by the OSAF was approved.
Bell-Boeing AV-28A Coyote
The AV-28A is the 21st Century, Western version of the infamous Mi-24 'Hind'. Heavily armed with a GAU-22/A 25mm cannon along with multiple provisions for guided weapons, extremely fast, and well-armored, the 'Coyote' can take a beating while still being able to deliver both its ordinance and its cargo on target and on-time. Coyotes, along with Lightning IIs make up the backbone of OSAF Helicarrier airpower.
American Aerospace V-288
The largest aircraft ever built by the OSAF, and one of the first developed to the resounding disapproval of the Navy, the V-288 is literally, a flying aircraft carrier.

And so it begins... I had a tough time trying to figure out how we might want to start this off, and then it came to me... television style!

So I present to you, L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E. Season 1, Episode 1: Earth-Shattering Revelations.

At this moment, I will give you a few pointers before we start. First of all, yes, I deliberately did a cross-over with the Crisis Situation (as shameless reminders of its existence as well... consider this another aspect of the story

). Secondly, I was hoping that we'd have at least five people as "agent" at the moment, and therefore either determine a department head, or something to provide orders and mobilize L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E. forces (our very own Nick Fury), but for now we'll do what we have to do (kind of like a good origin story

) with what we have.

So for now, assume we all have a boss, but as new recruits, none of us have seen him yet, only getting orders from intermediaries. Agents will be the first line of investigating the tsunami that hit Wagondia, as it was determined that the magnitude was off the scale of normal for an earthquake, and therefore there may be another cause for this event than random shifting of the Earth's crust. Superheros will have the not so "glorious" task of helping find survivors (saving the day), and assisting with the investigation.

Reminder that this is character-based, and there's no way you're going to figure out what's going on at first. Likely your first post is going to be some details of being sent to investigate. I will be posting things that provide breadcrumbs along the way, and I might even TG a few of you something your character can discover, so that it progresses the story, but like any good story, it will need to have some meat to it, and so I now unleash your characters into the world of L.I.B.E.R.A.T.E. in the hopes that this will be a truly fun RP!
