Guardian Party wins the National General Elections!

The Guardian Party has won a handedly successful election in Gualla’s first ever parliamentary elections, taking home 58% of the votes in amongst the Commonwealth’s eligible voters. They are followed by, to the great surprise of most, the Libertarian Party which came in second with 21% and then the United Guallan Alliance, originally thought to be a great competitor for the Guardian Party only 17% and the young People’s Party winning only 4% of the vote.

Following the representative process of departments, the relatively small Guallan Parliament has been formed as such, with the Guardian Party having a clear majority with 27 seats, while the Libertarian Party forms the head of the Loyal Opposition with 10 seats followed by the UGA’s 8 seats and the People’s Party having only 1 seat in parliament. King Alexander is slated to formally appoint a member to form a government later this week.

Cecil Hagan appointed Prime Minister!

Cecil Hagan, Leader of the Guardian Party has been formally appointed the first prime minister of the Commonwealth by King Alexander. Prime Minister had been seen as a well suited choice, an elder wise and temperate man he much balances out the youth of the monarch. Prime Minister Hagan has in turned appointed his members of the Council of Ministers, to head the departments of governance.

Henry Fitzanya has been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. Louis Asres, founder of the Guardian Party and President of the Guallan Bank has been appointed as the Minister of Finance and made Lord Treasurer, with his bank becoming the National Bank of Gualla (also known as the Commonwealth Bank). The elderly Angus Alazar has been appointed as the Minister of Justice, with William Amare, good friend of Hagan, as the Minister of Defense. Charles Hassan has been appointed as Minister of the Interior, while Kyle Sateraye has been made Minister of Energy.

Daniel Kim and Francis Song-Cook have been appointed as the ministers of Agriculture and Urban Development respectively. Gregory Weselley has been appointed as the Minister of National Nature while Matthew Deauborn as the Minister of Education. Leader of the Loyal Opposition notably scoffed, pointing out that all the ministers, members of the Guardian Party, are all men over the age of fifty, and overwhelmingly ethnically Guallan, with only Kim and Song-Cook being half-Seoyese.

Nevertheless the King’s Council of Ministers arrived at the Royal Palace in the capital and have begun the business of governance.

Haulani Rohan announces run for Premiership!

Lord Haulani Rohan, former member of the Inama, has declared his intention of running in the upcoming national election for the premiership of the Celestial Empire. Rohan, son of the Duke of Maine by his late first wife the She-Wolf of Wied has made himself famed in the empire for his opposition of Alexandra Hollande, Duchess of Mouscron and current prime minister. Rohan formerly sat on the Inana with Hollande until two years ago in 2136 during the Saizon War.

Rohan repeatedly criticized Hollande’s handling of the conflict with Riessany, citing the numerous I’ll-advised appointments to command positions that notably slighted known Liberal supporters. Rohan has similarly criticized Hollande’s handling of the ongoing conflict with Seoya over the Andejanes Archipelago, which has been under siege for over ten months now by Seoyese bombers whilst a continuous cat and mouse game in the Western Ocean halts continental trade.

Rohan has promised that under a new Liberal administration he would see a swift and victorious end to the war in Seoya, a balancing of the national budget and revitalizing of the economy by improving infrastructure connections between the highland interior to the capitalist coast and islands, particularly the Aukusa Bay Area and the Hemaka Islands. These are notably hotspots if large urban Liberal support.

Hollande’s supporters have criticized Rohan for daring to challenge a war time prime minister valiantly supporting the troops to defend and reclaim rightful imperial territory. To which Rohan’s supporters have claimed Hollande is intentionally dragging out the conflict in hopes of shoring up support for her re-election. With the election only a matter of weeks away, fierce debate has begun over the future of the Inama.

Princess Helena gives birth to a Prince!

Princess Helena, granddaughter of the reigning Queen Louise successfully gave birth to her second child and first son, a beautiful baby boy, Prince Antoine Azar of Safar. The new prince was born at 11:31 am this morning after several hours of labor. The princess’ husband, the handsome Prince Angemar was at his wife’s side and held the boy, presenting him to the Queen and Prince Consort, announcing his name Antoine in honor of the Prince Consort.

Prince Antoine Azar marks further expansion of the illustrious and fertile Valwa Dynasty, even if he is technically a Safar, and further secures the line of succession. Prince Antoine Azar sits at fourth in line to the throne after his older sister, mother and grandmother (all named Helena).

William Dreyfus, Duke of Kent dies age 93

William Dreyfus, 1st Duke of Kent died in his sleep last night at the ripe old age of 93 years. The elderly Duke was the fourth son of the famous Auguste of Gante by her first husband, George Dreyfus. His siblings included the first King of Beliany, Empress Charlotte of Connuriste and three Emperors of Riessany. He leaves behind his 81 year old wife, Alexandra Collins the new Dowager Duchess, and his three children, Amelia Dreyfus, now the 61 year old 2nd Duchess of Kent, and Lady Jasmine Dreyfus and Lord Philip Dreyfus. From his two daughters he is oulived by two granddaughters and a grandson, having sadly outlived his eldest grandchild, the late Lady Claudia Dreyfus. The Duke has four great-grandchildren, of whom, the Hon. Princess Eleanor Pearson is the new heiress to the dukedom. With his death, the 99 year old Edward Dreyfus, 1st Duke of Cumberland remains the final living child of Auguste of Gante.

Farmers Protest Foreign Imports!

King Alexander and Prime Minister Hagan face the first crisis of their reign and tenure as Guallan farmers by the thousands have announced their intention to go on a nationwide strike in protest of the flooding of the Guallan Market by cheap foreign crops. With the opening of Gualla to international trade over the last few months, there has been stiff competition with agricultural products from other nations.

Riessan barley and wheat and Seoyese sugar beets have posed fierce competition against local farmers. Meanwhile Deritain and Genoise fruits have outpaced local blueberry and peach sells. There too has been concerns of the spread of huanglongbing from Seoya that has afflicting oranges and tangerines. This latest has become of concern with the upcoming harvest season for the nation’s citrus.

Minister of Agriculture, Daniel Kim has taken up the concerns of the leader of the protests, Jessamine Odgers, who has demanded that in order to protect local farmers, to subsidize them in order to insure their competitive edge, asserting the the food security of Gualla is dependent on the domestic production of produce. Leader of the Opposition, Bernice Bona has in turn called instead for the raising of tariffs in order to protect against foreign imports.

In contrast of Odgers and Bona’s solutions, Louis Asres, Minister of Finance has argued that the import of goods is a boon to the national economy, asserting that in the free market Guallans must learn to compete with all companies. Asres also argued that increased tariffs would heart shipping companies, and stated that Guallans must pull themselves up by the bootstraps. Prime Minister Hagan is scheduled to meet with the king tomorrow to make a final decision.

Hagan lowers Foodstuffs Tariffs!

Prime Minister Cecil Hagan has announced a new act to lower the tariffs on the import of foreign foodstuffs and agricultural crops into the Commonwealth. The move is a controversial one following protests by Guallan farmers lead by Jessamine Odgers who promised to conduct a nationwide strike. It was under the push by Minister of Finance, Louis Asres who pushed for an aggressive capitalist approach.

The announcement has lead to angered responses from Odgers and her colleagues. Odgers has announced plans to hold further protests to show solidarity against the new act. However some have argued that this will only encourage further import of foreign goods. Prime Minister Hagan has granted Odgers permission to hold their protest in the national square, though some have questioned the impact this could have.

In addition to the lowering of foodstuffs tariffs, the king signed a royal degree banning the import of Seoyese produce products, in order to prevent the spread of huanglongbing. The degree also includes an aggressive quarantine and hygienic processing for all foreign fruits and vegetables.

The Gorgarian Republican Navy prides itself on the quality and capabilities of the fighting forces, and vessels under its command, and it has always been keen to make great efforts to keep itself on the bleeding edge of naval technology. However, many voices among the admiralty have called for a further modernization of the fleet, and several ranking High Admirals appeared in front of the Senate and the Archon to seek approval for a program to introduce new ships, weapons and tactics into the fleet. Today, those calls and requests have been given an answer, and that answer has been a resounding yes, as High Admiral Orellian Marx came before the senate, and put forward concerns of the fleets ability to stand against its peers, and gave the following statement "It is not secret that the Republic exists in a world hostile to its existence, we do not bow to a crown, and we refuse to bend our knees to the crowns of those nations abroad, and that puts us in the crosshairs of many of the so called great dynasties, we cannot afford to be mere peers to these nations, we must strive to bring the full resources, talent and industrial capabilities of the republic to bear to bring us beyond them, to ensure the future of the republic, and her survival in the face of the many threats that it faces in this world that we find ourselves in. I hereby request the funding and support necessary to bring the fleet to a point where it is unrivaled in its technology, and its ability to both defend the republic, and to extend and achieve her interests and goals, both near, and far abroad, wherever those interests may need the navy to go."

This was met with the approval for a $655 billion dollar budget for a development and procurement program for ships, submarines, aircraft and other systems utilized by the Gorgarian Republican Navy. There has been some concern voiced by a handful of senators, calling this action undiplomatic, and citing that this initiative may seed distrust and cause issues for the republic down the line.

Fundral of the Duchess of Angoulême

It was a day of mixed somber in the Celestial Capital today as the Celestial Court attended the funeral of Vaohangy, Duchess of Angoulême, long time lover of the Emperor and wife of the Duke of Angoulême and mother of the Duke of Vendome.

Originally born in Garandy to the infamous Lota family, she caught the attention of the Emperor at a ball an became his near constant companion, and sparking scandal when it was negotiated his marriage to his Safiya Hollande — the Empress herself was as per usual absent from the events of court. Vaohangy gave birth to two children by the Emperor, Andeja the Duke of Vendome (the designated heir) and his twin sister Princess Philippa. Vaohangy was initially banished from court following the imperial marriage, and further scandal broke out when her sister disappeared with Princess Imperial Ziyanda, also expected to be lovers.

Her fall however was halted by the sudden marriage to Louis Hollande, Duke of Angoulême, close advisor to the Emperor. With her return to court, she sparked further controversy as, in the absence of Empress Safiya, she began acting and operating as the de facto first lady of the court. Further it is believed that she and her husband have both been lovers of the emperor in an ménage à trois. One needs not wonder how his imperial majesty earned the nickname Andeja the Amorous. The Emperor and the Duke were seen affixed at one another’s side at the funeral.

The Duchess, only 23 years old, died in an equestrian accident when she was playing polo with several other ladies of the court and was thrown from her horse. She struck her head, cracking her skull. Thus he sadly died on the way to the hospital. With her death, she leaves behind only her two children by the Emperor, as her marriage to the Duke has remained childless.

The death of the Duchess of Angoulême is not without political consequences, shattering the initial alliance that secured designation of the Duke of Vendome as heir to the throne, and thus once again reopening the question of Imperial Succession, as Empress Dowager Amelie has made note after the funeral that a true born heir will still supersede Vendome. Thus such have pushed the Emperor now more than ever to seek out the bed of his actual wife.

The Mother Empress herself has taken even more dramatic action, drudging up the ancient law of devolution, with the goal of seizing the vast Lota Family Fortune in the name of her grandson. The Lotas were regarded as one of if not the wealthiest families on the continent in rivalry of the Pearson Family. With their wealth and property in the hands of the Crown the Volonte would once again be considered the wealthiest dynasties in the world. However, Adela Ardales, the Dowager Princess of Gante has argued that such wealth should instead go to her son, the Duke of Angoulême as the widower, setting up what is like to be an intense legal battle.

In the meantime, the Inama of the Empire, likely under the command of the Mother Empress, has approved of the sending of soldiers to occupy Lota Castle and the entirety of the islands of Garandy in the name of the Crown.

"ARMY CITY" BEGINS CONSTRUCTION

Many regard the Eizenfausten military as a weak shadow of it's former self, and the CUC (Concordance Unified Command) wishes to change that. In order to do so, they authorised the construction of a new military instillation- the Reykjavik Citadel. It will contain a new and cutting-edge over-the-horizon radar system, the headquarters of all 4 military branches and a nuclear-proof bunker, all located within an enormous concrete pyramid. An airbase, army base and naval harbour will also be included, as well as an experimental nuclear reactor. A military trading facility will be located adjacent to the base network, and the complex as a whole will be connected to the other various military constructs by an armoured railway. Construction is estimated to take roughly 10 years.

The announcement of the construction of this fortress was incredibly controversial and was met with countless protests throughout Rejkia and Vera, with many, including some military veterans, calling it an abuse of the CUC's power and some even going as far as to call it a military coup.

Royal Wedding in Volya!

Ottokar, King of Raudoya married Julia von Wallenberg in a grand civil ceremony in the capital city of Volya this morning, marking the first true royal wedding in the young monarchy's history. King Ottokar, who lost his second wife and queen, Tolla Mazur to cardiac failure two years ago, was introduced to Julia von Wallenberg in January by Grand Duchess Mathilde, wife of Grand Duke Sakarias of Gosataborg, and the couple quickly hit it off, enjoying one another's company. Julia, noted for her beauty, intelligence, and skill in riding horses; has already proved a popular new addition to the royal family. The award-winning equestrian accepted the king's proposal after a month-long courtship.

The wedding itself has become a Borean states celebration, with not only the entirety of the Raudoyan Royal Family in attendance but also the respective royal families of Dasorres, Gosataborg, and Imarati. King Xoan of Dasorres made the rare trip abroad with his wife, Queen Sofia, and their children Princess Berenguela and Crown Prince Arias. The Grand Duke and Duchess were there, along with the Hereditary Prince and Princess, Ragnar, and Alice. King Alexis and Queen Oruk of Imarati also attended. Paras Kanatus of Patuania was also in attendance, as were Augustin and Louis Dupuy, Gentlemen of the Celestial Emperor and brothers of the Crown Princess of Raudoya, representing the Celestial Empire, and Beatrice Hayes, Marchioness of Worcester representing Great Hyruke.

Julia was escorted down the aisle by her father, Lord Melikar von Wallenberg, with her sister, Emma Westergren (nee von Wallenberg) acting as her maid of honor while historian philosopher, and long-time friend of the king, Svatoslav Vitak served as Ottokar's best man. The wedding was officiated by constitutional lawyer, David Machacek. Following the marriage ceremony, Ottokar crowned his new wife as Queen Julia, becoming the second queen consort in Raudoya history and the first foreign-born queen. The wedding marked a grand and friendly affair amongst the royal guests, with the Dupuys seen getting along well with the King and Queen of Imarati and the Crown Prince and Princess, the Paras speaking with Ottokar and Sakarias, and Prince Konard and Princess Anna seen laughing with their Dasorresan counterparts Princess Berenguela and Crown Prince Arias.

A period of celebrations is set to continue over the next several days.

The Garandaian Inheritance

Only days after the funeral of the Duchess of Angoulême, there has been an intense outbreak of debate over the so called Garandaian Inheritance, concerning the vast fortune and holdings of the Lota family and the late duchess. Mother Empress Marijani has declared that the inheritance belongs to her grandson, the Duk of Vendome, only son of the late duchess, while Dowager Princess Adela argues the inheritance belongs to her son, as widower of the wealthy heiress.

The debate flared up internationally following Celestial soldiers occupying Lota Castle and the isles of Garandy under orders of the Inama. Abroad in Great Hyruke, the Concordance and Gorgaria the action was condemned, with Marijani having been accused of over reaching and carrying out expansionist policies. All the while there has been intense criticism, likely fueled by the mother empress aimed at the prime minister’ lackluster handling of the situation.

Indeed, to many it seems the Mother Empress is the only one with a grasp of control in the Celestial Court. She has gained popularity, particularly in response to Gorgarian Senatorial pushes for an act against Celestial ships passing through the Gorgarian Strait and other foreign protests. Those in support of the Duke of Vendome have accused their detractors as anti-Deritain and in league with foreign governments.

Alexandra Hollande, the prime minister and Duchess of Mouscron has been called weak willed and ineffective, some noting the lagging peace negotiations with Seoya, and stifled trade on the Western Ocean. This has put many in doubt of her reflection, and with the national election Jody days away, Haulani Rohan appears to actually have a shot of winning. Hollande has thus taken it seemed to hide away in her offices.

Within the Celestial Court to division and strife has risen. Tension has reportedly rising amongst Lord Jean Yoyo and Lord William Dreyfus, both close friends of the Emperor on opposite sides the debate. Meanwhile reports suggest the break down of the relationship between the Duke of Angoulême and the Emperor, who were supposedly heard fighting in the former’ bed chamber. Some have question if this was under the influence of the Mother Empress.

Proclamation of Katarian Independence!

“Today Katar is independent. The Katarian people are independent. I call upon the people of Katar, wherever you might be and with whatever you might have, to resist the Seoyese occupation to the last! Your fight must go on until the last Seoyese soldier is expelled from the soil of Katar and final victory, our sovereign freedom is achieved!”

These were the words of Daniyar Temirov on radios across the Katar region, often called the Bacray Region by Seoyese authorities. The region wide broadcast was conducted by the Congress of the Katars, assembled in opposition to the tyrannical Seoyese authority to form a free and sovereign state for the Katarian people, an ethnic group of nearly two million people spilt across the Patuanian Alps in Seoya, Patuania and Riessany, with the vast majority in the Bacray Region.

Katarians have, ethnically and culturally distinct from its neighbors to the west and south, being distant cousins of the Patuanians, has long rebelled under various Seoyese regimes under the Jae Dynasty, Na Regime and the rule of Hojin. Finally our people can stand subjugation no lower.
Within hours of Temirov’s declaration, the new Katarian People’s Army, a local militia armed with both Patuanian automatic rifles and with Deritain ammunition and handguns seized control of the city of Klech, renamed Katar City as the new capital along with other cities such as Perev, Inech, and Rechi.

Some 880,000 Katars are liberation, with moves to liberated the rest from Seoya tyranny. Daniyar Temirov (59) has been appointed as Domintor of Katar and Commander-in-chief of the Katar Army and Airforce. Temirov swore to upload the hastily drafted Constitution of Katar and released a formal proclamation to the international community:

“This is Daniyar Temirov, chosen Domintor of the Katars, hereby declare that the independent Confederacy of Katar has been established. I call upon all Katarians to rise against the tyranny of the Seoyese Authority. We shall fight to the last to free our motherland. By the grace of God, victory is ours. Today Katar is a sovereign and independent country. The Katars are fighting the enemy with great courage for an independent Motherland. May God aid us in our fight for freedom. Katar Forever!”

The Pirate Princess

Yonela of Derita, youngest child of the late Emperor Andeja I arrived in Garandy ahead of the Celestial Second Fleet, along with the body of Vaohangy, Duchess of Garandy. Yonela, a scandalous figure in the Celestial Empire, and an exalted on in Garandy, boldly stepped onto the docks of the famous Arsenal. The widowed Duke of Angoulême at was at the androgynous Yonela’s side, the Lota crest draped coffin of the late duchess, and, to shock if everyone, the two year old Andeja, son of the late duchess in their arms, wrapped in the quarter crest of the Volonte Star and the Lota Seahorse.

“The blood of the stars and the sea runs through his veins,” Yonela proclaimed a crowd of onlookers, lifting the child, with the distinctive white hair of his mother before them. “He is his mother’s legacy, great and as strong as the sea!”

The grand display, a charm offensive comes on the heel of the settlement of the matter of the Garandaian Inheritance, seen by many in response to the move by Gorgaria to attempt to prevent the legal inheritance of Garandy by the son of the Emperor. While the settlement selected the Duke of Angoulême as the caretaker of the vast Lota Fortune, (which is currently being relocated to the Imperial Treasury) Yonela has been selected to over see the governance of the isles, seen as more knowledgeable in Garandaian affairs.

Yonela, once the lover of Cyasan Lota, the late infamous pirate king, previously served as a cutthroat in the infamous Black & Red Fleet, and working as a mercenary during the Lajaz-Turandan War under the name Youssef, before being pardoned upon their return the Empire. However, with their return, Yonela has offered licensing of privateers to the Black & Red Fleet, under their command, turning the vast mercenary and allegedly criminal operation as an arm of the Empire, though some have argued they, like the Lotas before them, will use them as their own private military and terror of the seas.

Yonela’s early arrival in Garandy has been marked by the dramatics of their arrival itself and their grand shows of gregariousness, buying entire crowds drinks, and promising to keep the Garandaian way life alive as an autonomous part of the empire. The charm offensive is pairs with the Inama’s determination to defend the isles from the Gorgarian Navy who intends to attempting to seizing the rightful inheritance of the young Duke of Garandy.

Paras Kanatus lowers barriers to Construction Projects

Paras Kanatus II of Patuania has gained further popularity following the passage of his bill to reduce cost of sand mining on the Patuanian coastline despite protest of traditionalists and environmentalists who complained of the aggressive policy leading to increase flooding on the coastal islands. The Paras, who this year marked his tenure as the second longest in Patuanian, behind only that of his predecessor Paras Kysasan, has been carrying out an aggressive modernization campaign in order to lift up the Patuanian economy.

While vast in both land area and population, Patuania has consistently lagged behind its Borean neighbors, particularly Gosataborg and Raudoya. Kanatus since 2134 has been psyching new legislation and policies to over see the deregulation of the national economy and modernization projects. Earlier this year the Paras announced the intention of construction of a new nationwide railway system to improve connectivity between the ports, capital and rural interior for greater connectivity and movement for national defense.

Environmentalists and Traditionalists have forged an unlikely coalition in the Grand Assembly in protest, citing scientific studies showing the damage caused to coastlines by sand mining using in such major infrastructure projects, along with the cause of modernizing communities. These alliances however have been largely ignored under the Paras’ increased policing, rooting out of opponents and the steady improvement of the Patuanian economy under the new policies.

The Rebirth of the Empire!

Glory to the Empire!

These are the cries heard throughout the streets of Gaosa as Emperor Andeja IV appointed a new prime minister of the empire, alongside with a new flag flying over the capital. As reports flooded in of the successful capture of the city of Bererin by Colonel Laurent Rohan and his brother Alexis Rohan, popular favor tipped massively in favor of their brother and electoral candidate, Lord Haulani Rohan.

Thus, in the end, Lord Haulani Rohan and his Liberal Party greatly outpaced that of his rival, Alexandra Hollande and the Ultra Party, winning 74% of the national vote. Alexandra Hollande, the first female prime minister in Imperial History, this gave a tearful farewell as she left the Ijuru Ingoro. The new prime minister, Rohan arrived to great applause and nationalistic fervor of his supporters.

Rohan had adopted a distinctive pro-militarism, pro-imperialist stance not previously associated with the Liberal Party, but both held up by its modernizing and urban capitalist and cosmopolitan policies, ideology and values respectively. It has also appeared to appealed to many of the typically more traditionalist inland populaces. Rohan has promised to win the war with Seoya as well as secure the Garandaian Inheritance.

The stark change in the tone of the rhetoric around the premiership is perhaps punctuated by the formal adoption of the new imperial flag, taken from the coat of arms of the Celestial Empire. Some have taken the new flag to greatly symbolize the empire’s place in the world, a singular shining star of light in a world of darkness. This too has been held up by Rohan’s encouragement of multiculturalism and incorporation into the empire.

Haulani Rohan himself is an ethnic Hemakan, from the Hemaka Islands in the south, long know for its distinct culture and attitudes from that of the mainland. A sentiment shared by many of the smaller ethnic communities on the coastlines such as the Lajaz in Oran and most distinctly the Aukusans, Makonians, and Seoyese in the Aukusa Bay Area. This has given many hope for a greater equitable society, particularly with the addition of Garandaians into the empire.

In the Celestial Court too changes are being made as it marked the return of Keoni Rohan of the new prime minister, best friend of the Emperor, who left due to the political crisis of the Celestial-Riessan war. Now three years later the Emperor, having lost the Angoulemes to death and absence, publicly embraced his friend. Lord William Dreyfus, son of the former prime minister was dismissed, Prince Kekoa taking his place as one of the Emperor’s gentlemen.

Rohan has planned to announce new dramatic changes to the Inama of the Empire, likely with his eyes set on dismantling the power of the Hollande Family and the Ultra Party. And thus, forged in war and victory, setting a course towards a new era for the Celestial Empire.

Paras Kanatus approves of the Pohjantahti Railway

Paras Kanatus II signed the approval of government funding for the newly proposed Pohjantahi Railway, a planned line that would connect the far frigid northern coast of the nation to Sioratassauar year round. The projected is headed by Vonnura Mäkinen, who previously constructed the capital’s young railing system connecting the capital to the port. Mäkinen has been compared to her fellow oligarch, Temaye Narikid for her cut throat business acumen and push for the deregulation of companies. Mäkinen has promised to see the railroad complete by 2142.

Neuvonantaja Kaspari Maariasauro, a prominent member of the Directorate Grand Council, has risen as the de facto leader of the Traditionl-Environmental Alliance that has been growing in opposition to the paras’ modernizing policies and infrastructure projects.

Dowager Empress reopens the Succession Controversy!

The issue of the Imperial line of succession appears a wound in the side of the empire that seems to refuse to heal. Frustrated in this effort is no doubt the efforts of the Hollandes. Fallen from the grace of the premiership and under the administration of their arch-rivals the newly ascendant Rohans, the Hollandes have chosen to strike at the matter of succession once more.

Empress Safiya while nominally the most powerful woman in the empire, remains a non-player in her absence in Court. The apparent truth of her incapability of having a child has left the question of succession murky when paired with the Emperor’s children born from the late Vaohangy Lota. Although asserted as legitimate and natural heirs, the birth of Andeja, Duke of Garandy out of wedlock has been used by the Dowager Empress, Amelie Hollande as disqualifies.

Some have argued for the divorce of the Emperor and Empress so that he may remarry and produce unquestionably legitimate children, but that move so far seem unlikely given the political importance of the marriage that asserted peace between the two families and the formal incorporation of the Principality of Gante into the empire.

In turn, the Dowager Empress has asserted a different heir than the Duke of Garandy, claiming her granddaughter, Princess Frederica of Riessany as the rightful heiress presumptive to the Celestial Throne. And despite what some might believe initially, the two year old princess holds great legal precedent for such a title.

The Dowager Empress’ lawyers cited the very law of succession that favors legitimate born children and recently formally recognized female succession. Normally the greatest obstacle would be the law that disinherits princess who marry a foreign royal in line for another throne and/or without imperial permission. The marriages of the Dowager Empress’ eldest and youngest daughter, Amelie (who married without permission) and Alara (who married the heir to the Hyrukian throne) thus disqualify them.

The Dowager Empress’ middle daughter, Dowager Empress Mamela however married with permission to Augustus of Riessany, and while his would normally disqualify her, as her posthumous child was a daughter, Frederica, and thus not in line to the Riessan throne, this effectively created a loophole in which the young princess is the only legitimate grandchild of Andeja II capable of succeeding the present Emperor.

This logic of the law technically makes Mamela of Derita, Dowager Empress of Riessany and aunt of Andeja IV heiress presumptive of the throne. Mamela herself however is personally consider unsuitable given her scandalous lifestyle and irreverent behavior. It is largely believed that the Duke of Alencon greatly pushed for the recognition of the Duke of Garandy as heir specifically to avoid the throne falling to Mamela.

Princess Frederica however remains young and under the influence for her august grandmother, the Dowager Empress, and thus in the eyes of a growing number of people, largely in opposition of Rohan and his administration as a viable and even rightful heir to the Emperor. Should she succeed, she would be the first Empress in her own right in Derita.

A Coup in the Arena!

All Hail Tewodros!

The roar of thunderous applause and cheers ushered in a new era of absolute monarchy in the grand Omiranoba Amphitheater in the capital city of Caney, the second largest and newest arena in the country. In its grand debut onto the world stage, King Tewodros gave his subjects the most dramatic show in Narumadan history as he, his wives and new consort performed a masterful coup de grace on the Narumadan Senate.

Under the control of Idi Senghore, the kingmaker, since 2133 the Senate largely held the real power in Narumada even after Tewodros rose to the throne through the bloody Sovereign Games. Senghore’s control has been unchallenged, clear in the recent parliamentary elections that saw him achieve victory by a landscape, along with small voter turnout.

Sengahore’s opposition however turned out not to be across the aisle from him, but from the throne itself where King Tewodros and his wives, Queen Satang and Queen Saijo plotted the kingmaker’s downfall. Aided by the king’s favorite, the Meyarineo nobleman Leon Wynters, they corralled the Prime Minister and the Senate into an emergency session only for the King to debut his new personal army, the Odaran Guard.

At the command of Queen Satang herself, the red clad soldiers arrested the Senate and took the Prime Minister into custody, escorting them to the arena floor in the Omiranoba. From the royal box, Queen Satang declared Senghore and the Senate as having committed treason against Narumada and the King. Presented with evidence by Queen Saijo, King Tewodros sentenced the Senate to trial by combat.

Stripped of their black noble senatorial garments and given the weapons of gladiators, the Omiranoba roared as they watched the greatest show unfold before them. From the stands, Wynters lead in the heirs of the members of the senate and the King presented them with a choice. To stand by their parents and join their fate, or to turn their backs on the past, and look to the future and swear undying loyalty to the King.

The sons of Idi Senghore raised their voices in protest, and found themselves, their wives and their children thrown into the arena alongside the ex-prime minister. There was no further descent as one by one, the elite of the kingdom turned their backs to the condemned and bowed to the king. From the sands of the arena, came the roar of the King’s champions— lions. Valiant as one individuals bloody efforts may have been, in the end, the effect was a grand feast for the lions.

King Tewodros, rising from his throne to deafening applause and shouts of ‘All hail the king” and “Fight for Narumada”, declared the senate abolished, assuming all political power for himself as absolute ruler. In the same breath he announced the making Wynters the king’s third consort, and the news that Queen Saijo is expecting her first child, a heir to the throne, an heir to a new glorious reign.

Parliament passes Eco-friendly Legislation to curve Industrial Pollution!

A controversial new law has been passed by the Parliament of the Commonwealth that oversees the implementation of new restrictions on the industrial sectors of the economy. Originally proposed by Bernice Bona, Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Oppposition, a new bill to ban the use of plastic bags in civil consumption from companies. This as later amended in the pursuit of replacing plastic bags with the increased production of biodegradable bags, such as paper. While protested by members of the UGA, believing the act too anti-corporation, though managed to win over some of the more liberal Guardian Party members. Others however have noted that the increased paper projection is likely to serve as a boost to the lumber and paper mill industry.

MILITARY OVERHAULS CONTINUE

A pair of CUC troops with the new '39 pattern equipment and rifles.

The Concordance Unified Command continue their military restructuring campaign by unveiling the Concordance's newest military equipment family, the '39 pattern. This equipment family includes the new LCR (Lightweight Chest Rig) webbing, the H-39 Shrapnel Helm, the '39 Uniform set, boots and snood. Also introduced is a series of firearms, including the iconic G-39 Self-Loading Rifle, a cheap, innovative and fully automatic alternative to the older, semi-auto rifles used by other nations' militaries. As of yet, only a few prototypes exist, however the CUC aims to begin equipping them en-masse by September. They will also be available for purchase by foreign governments by then.
The CUC is currently waiting for their new fighting vehicles to be delivered, however the information surrounding them is not yet released to the public.

Fall of Andejanes!

Horror has struck at the heart of the Empire upon news of the Fall of the Andejanes Archipelago to Seoyese Armed Forces following the death of Governor-General Dondala, the valiant defender of the major island of the archipelago that has been under siege by Seoya for the last 18 months. Dondala and an estimated ten thousand soldiers defended the island valiantly with with the famed unbending Deritain attitude in the face of overwhelming odds as thousands of bombs were dropped on the windswept islands regularly over the last year.

The ongoing war with Seoya, the so called Seom War has continued to escalate following the Rohan lead invasion into southern Seoya. However the great distance and the focus on efforts on the southern campaign in the Bacray region has lead some to blame it for the ultimate loss of the Archipelago. The conflict already threatens to become both the longest and bloodiest war since the Great Eastern War and with the capture of the Archipelago, the end is nowhere in sight as the Inama asset they shall retake the islands.

Prime Minister Rohan, who won the premiership with his war hawk rhetoric is not receiving a tidal wave of negative publicity at the defeat when the Empire was promised a clear victory. Others have cynically suggested the Empire abandon the far flung islands to Hojin, given their harsh landscape and great distance. Others continue to view the islands as symbolic of the Empire’s status as the center of the world, and the lost of them as a threat to the authority of the empire.

In Aukusa Bay Area in particular, where many of Rohan’s strongest supporters live, there has been cases of racial backlash against the ethnic Seoyese minority in the city. A trio of Seoyese man in Aukusa City was reportedly attacked by a group of people who’d had just heard of the startling news. The result was a street brawl and the three Seoyese men having to be hospitalized. Lord Yoyo denounced the violence, calling the attack barbaric and reminding many that most the Seoyese within the Empire are refugees who fled the reign of King Hojin.

The Aukusa Bay Area has announced its intention to increase policing in the city, and has advised Seoyese residents to abide by a voluntary curfew for their own safety. Meanwhile in Gaosa, Rohan has secured a further increase to the military budget, the third in as many months, with this one focused on the Celestial Navy in order to seize back control of the archipelago. This is boosted by the increased volunteers to fight, with many calling to revenge for the well respected Dondala.

Tragedy in Kaveria

On this Friday, tragedy has struck as two leaders of a rebel faction in Kaver, Lawrence Remus and Porter Remus assassinated Emperor Octavian II and his adopted son Prince Daniel. These two were Kaverian separatists and anti-monarchists that are set to be executed next week. There was a problem with who will be the next Emperor, however the answer was determined in a duel.

The duel was between twins, who are both cousins of Octavian II. One is Wreve Vulcan and the other is Carolus Vulcan. The one who survived was Wreve, and he is being coronated as Emperor Wreve I immediately and will be installed as the absolute monarch of the Empire.

Wreve has also removed all of the governors of regions from their offices, leaving himself as direct controller of the local governments of each province.

Emperor out for Holiday

Gaosa, the Celestial Empire

The Emperor arrived in the Hemaka Islands today as part of what seems to be a summer vacation away from the capital. The Emperor, his friends, Keoni Rohan, Jean Yoyo, Prince Kekoa and the Dupuy Brothers all arrived aboard the Imperial Yacht in the southerly tropical islands. While not the first visit the emperor has made to the islands, it was one nonetheless met with enthusiasm as leis were given out to the guests as crowds of thousands gathered around to greet the Empefor.

Palace insiders have suggested that the trip was arranged by Keoni Rohan as to lift the spirits of the emperor, who has been reportedly melancholic since the death of his lover, Vaohangy Lota, the late Duchess Angoulême. The sunny Hemaka Islands are a famed vacation spot both domestically and internationally, known for its picturesque beaches and surfing waves. It is yet to be seen if the trip shall lighten the emperor’s dark mood as hoped.

Meanwhile in Gaosa, left empty of the royals with the emperor, the empress and his mother all away, in different places, has seen further annoyance with the Inama and Prime Minister Rohan falling the Seoyese successfully crushing the Katarian Rebellion, retaking the region and likely further extending the ongoing Seom War. The failures at the Andejanes and Katar has lead to concerns over Rohan’s ability to win the conflict.
