Rules:

2. Do not deploy forces! This thread is a media preparatory outlet lining up the events for the upcoming Rerno Revolution. If you want to fight, wait until then!
3. Do not post on the IC unless first approved in the OOC.
4. Do not assume relations. If you have had no contact with the Merick Isles in the past, now is not the time assume your nation has established diplomatic ties. (Trade ties on the other hand are acceptable, but do not take that too far as to assume trade partner status)

Well... I'd like to post. I'd basically criticize the belligerent new government, which will probably do bad stuff in terms of Lolloh-Merick relations, and tacitly approve of Rerno's secession by pulling the right-to-self-determination and hypocrisy cards.

Wanna know what else is funny? The Merick Isles doesn't run a 2-Party Plurality system, it runs a Multi-Party Coalition system based on the Inyurstan model... So what, just because I am American IRL means that my nation is automatically going to run a Plurality System?

He said he uses the Inyurstan Model, so this is how it works in Inyursta...

We use what's called a Multi-Stage Election system. A.K.A. The Inyurstan Democratic Model.

In this system, all of the political parties are split into various coalitions (The Rightist Coalition vs the Alternative Coalition). Each party has the right to change coalitions or run unaligned, and each coalition has the right to accept or deny parties into their coalition.

Stage I is where the registered voters for a specific party choose the candidate to run in Stage II (basically a primary).

Stage II elections work similar to a multiparty election and like a inner-party primary in a two party system. Each of the parties in a coalition run for election (I.e. the UCRP, National Republican Union, DemCons Martinezists and Libertarian) and the winner of the election goes on to represent the coalition in Stage III.

Stage III elections work like a run-off election or like a two-party system, where the candidates from each coalition compete to win over 50% of the vote.

Advantages:
- Have the choice of a multi-party system
- Elected officials will always have the popular mandate of a two-party system
- More power to minority parties within a coalition*

Disadvantages:
- Certain parties hate it because their candidates rarely win big

It's all the same for me, just add or subtract parties as localities vary.

I thought first past the post was the winner-take-all system the US uses, but then I realized first past the post is basically just democracy without being direct democracy...
So then what is so bad with FPTP?

It is close Plurality (legit term for FPTP) however it allows for multiple parties to have a fair chance without running the risk of a party winning on a percentage as low as 30%.

The current Plurality system in the U.S runs Primaries to nominate candidates for Parties. What IYF has done is taken that same idea of Primaries and simply expanded it into a Run-off style election which prevents both a lack of ideological representation (as in Plurality) and parties who aren't liked by the majority of the country from winning (as in Proportional).

I saw the idea and actually quite like it. Best of both worlds per se; although I guess the extra round of voting (coalition voting) would be a pain IRL... But this is NS, where you can have talking ponies. So no issue

I don't see how MMP is bad, either. It's rather good, and encourages party diversity.

*Is politically informed and active voter*
*Votes Stage I for his/her candidate*
*Votes Stage II for his/her party*
*Votes Stage III for his/her coalition*
Or
*Really doesn't agree with the candidate who won Stage II, so has the option to vote against them in Stage III*

Here is the reality:
*Is average voter*
*Votes Stage II*
"Hmm. There is no way that Alternative Coalition candidate will win. I should just take the day off, smoke some pot and go surfing!"

Meh, I need a total war to bring my spirits back up. I was going to send my entire fleet down to the Kulgis instead, but gaining an ally/satellite state in IoL's backyard will both humiliate him and weaken him, hopefully to the point where I can abrogate my treaties and get several more carriers for my navy!
