What is Patriotic progressivism?
For starters.
The Phi is the symbol often used to represent the
community oriented ideology of Patriotic progressivism
Patriotic progressivism, colloquially known with its slang identifier "Asignism" (Derived from the Filipino name of the party who upholds this ideology in the Philippines, Asignatura Partido ng Pilipnas) is an ideology created by Erin Terten, the founder of the Asigna party in the Philippines and its incumbent President. His views where rather publicized in his editorials for the weekly newsletters of his party which is entitled "And masa" (the masses) which expresses journals of the most appropriate thing to do in the current political situations in the eyes of a patriotic progressivist.
Not to be confused with conventional progressivism, patriotic progressivism believes in the following points which it treats as its fundamentals.
- It declares that nationalism/patriotism is the means for nations to improve or develop. So that nations who seek to rise should unite themselves under the banner of inspiration and pride of their nation in order for them to make an effective community that acts as one people or community.
- It rejects political homogeneousness as it believes certain nations would not become effective under conventional democracy as displayed to us by the west's debacle in Iraq. Certain nations need a strongman that answers properly to the issues such as sectarianism and other things to keep the nation together.
- It supports the usage of mass media and education as apparatuses to gain popular understanding for the movement of national progressivism.
- Though it supports democracy, it does not agree that the western model of democracy should be imposed on every single nation. Rather, if a dictator remains in power through popular support, they are considered as legitimate leaders since they act while being backed by the support of their people. As long as popular support exists to back a leadership, there is democracy, it further argues these type of leaderships are better than nations who have leaders elected yet still in power even though their own people already begin to look at them with discontent and disdain.
- The bayan (Filipino: "the people") should always remain united. It rejects individualism for some communities.
We ought to act together, culture is not subjective after all, culture depends on the circumstances that shape a country's people, influenced by natural factors such as availability of land masses that could become settlements, in this country, when at times we were divided we were easily conquered and lost therefore subjected to torture and oppression by the foreign powers, we never want to let that happen again, so we could not say that we should act individualistic rather we should offer up ourselves for the good of society. As this small society of ours, the Filipino people is easier to handle under the guide of one particular idea than big nations like China and the US, they barely could contain their population under one idea which is why democracy is urgent in their region."
- Minorities should be given rights but they should remain united towards the cause of a singular community, to support and back the nation, the community.
- A nation should not be united under a linguistic banner but rather should be united under the banner of shared values such as respect, justice, celebrating a nation's development achieved under progressivism and a common historical background. This way sectarian tensions rooted under multiculturalism or heritage would be neutralized.
- It calls for competence. It calls for all nations oppressed by the after and passive effects of historical western hegemony, such as the chaos in the middle east, the chaos and the plight in Africa and for the nations bullied by stronger and arrogant nations to rise up with force of arms through an armed revolt and unite to show the rest of the world that these people no longer want to be oppressed so they break free from the trend and to convey a message such as "don't mess with us". The armed revolt is not literal, it could be through show of force in any way, a competent leadership and an attitude of belligerency as acts of protest.
- It then calls for the nations who promulgated the ideology of national progress to march and ally with other nations under the banner of progress not only to further create world peace, but also to strengthen the march for the improvement of mankind.
