January 17th marked a new milestone in the Euskirribakondaran music scene. For a record-breaking fifth time, the joyous country of many cultures, the rightful country of biodiversity, the peaceful country of tradition, won the World Hit Festival. Alía Font, Jan Danburrelgó and the HaD ensemble captured the essence of the most famous Euskirribakondaran festivity: the Suako Danborrada (Drum Festival of Fire), and showcased it to the world... Earning 45 points along the way, making them the winners in Sirushostan, the Kingfordian capital that hosted WHF13. Interestingly enough, the show's theme would not be fire..... But ice. This time, the World Hit Festival will fly to its northernmost AND coldest host venue ever. Mahá Iq-Baan, president of EUSK1, and head of delegation of Euskirribakondara for these international events declared:
Most people thought it was impossible for us to achieve a fifth win, and to be honest, even we thought the possibilities were very small. Nonetheless, here came Alía, Jan and HaD; with one of the finest pieces of Euskal folk we've ever heard... And we were sure they'd rock the Sirushostani stage. Every line of the song was filled with meaning, and every compass was marked by our world-famous drums. And it was just as exciting as when Karolina Etséu, Chieko Orlich, Totó Sambakileué, Samira, Jan Ardegorrián and Juliana Vardell won before. But the show we've prepared will be better than ever....
This time EUSK1 welcomes back all delegations hoping to do two things: gather the largest number of participants for the most recent edition of the festival; and introducing everyone to the amazing polar world which, unfortunately, most people don't even know. A land of cold, mysticism and ice...... Compensated by the warmth of the hospitable Qeekallit Nunaat inhabitants. The capital of this province, Narsaattoq, will be the host of an unprecedented version of the World Hit Festival. We're taking this to the next possible level, and beyond.
We've had amazing times in the foreshore of Sirushostan, the beaches of Stephani, the eleven cities of Halbia, the Mikunan rainforest, the Harrikes Bay (with the Crolacian Kjottla and Kishraeli Cake buffets); but this time we invite you to discover whales, narwhals, polar bears, icebergs, fjords, sleds and igloos. A land where twilight is present almost all the day, and where sunrise practically means noon. Let yourself be captivated by the aurora borealis that every night shines over Narsaattoq. Don't hesitate to paint with the colors of the sky; draw with the wind, and fly.
The Great Nanoq Opera House, will be able to seat up to 20,202 people in the configuration we're aiming for. It's time to renew the way the World Hit Festival is held, and that will include several changes both outside and inside the very event of the contest final. Prepare to be amazed by the postcards, the stage, the pre-show articles, and some other surprises we won't reveal yet.
Our motto and theme, Qaasuitsoq Allagissaarpoq, which in Greenlandic means 'the arctic night has vivid colors', is meant to remind everyone of that cycle where darkness complements light, cold complements heat, and the old complements the new. This anachronistic and minimalistic style will be the style of this edition... And it still has that typical Euskirribakondaran joy of life, where even the quite dark arctic night...... HAS vivid colors.
Welcome to Narsaattoq!
