WHF13 Logo Unveiled!
Euskirribakondaran designers have unveiled the WHF13 logo, inspired by: Sirushostan's connection to the sea, the contest's spirit of friendship and the contemporaneous love for "minimalism derivations".

(ARANES, EUSKIRRIBAKONDARA) As expected, the Euskirribakondaran design agency 'DessigN'hiDo" unveiled WHF13's official logo. Right from the start, KBBS established their will to receive help from Euskirribakondara, the leader when it comes to the organization of the World Hit Festival. As such, many Euskal agencies, corporations and even fans, have been getting their hands to work to create a very interesting and modern thirteenth edition of the beloved music contest.

The Kingfordian population had lots of expectations regarding the logo: they had given suggestions, but in the end the decision would be from DessigN'hiDo. They only hoped for a simplistic yet unique logo, one that represented how WHF13 will be a milestone for the contest; and lead designer "Jordi Sapgirò" heard those calls.

Jordi Sapgirò wrote:"We decided WHF13's logo wouldn't be about the additions to the regular WHF logo. We decided we'd completely change the texture and appearance of it, enough so it would be regarded as authentic, and enough to still be familiar. We also took into account the contemporaneous love for "minimalism derivations", and that's what we went for."

The agency told us that after lots of discussions, they decided upon the bubbles as the central theme for the logo. After all, the two most renowned landmarks of Sirushostan are sea-related; Sirushostan's foreshore and the KB-Romburyan Link bridge; and the bubbles are the perfect representation about the fluidity of water. Then, the team decided to make a bubble mosaic for the logo. A mosaic represents two things inside this logo: simplicity: because the mosaic is integrally formed by somewhat homogeneous circles; friendship, because all the mosaic pieces are together (remember that the slogan for WHF13 is Together in Sirushostan). The colours work as reminders of Sirushostan's skyline, sunlight-bathed concrete buildings in front of sandy beaches (grey, sand and golden).

The bottom of the logo includes, as usual, the slogan for the contest, its host city, country and venue; and for the first time ever, the exact date for the final. "DessigN'hiDo" has confirmed that the postcards in the show and other relevant imagery will be based on the 'bubbly mosaic' theme they've created.

What do you think about this new logo?

Featured Comments

Tom McHinley from Kingsley Bedford: I love how this logo looks both unique and appealing. I'm glad KBBS is working together with the usual Euskirribakondaran agencies and staff... They have the required experience to host everything perfectly in Sirushostan.

Rostislav Narinov from Polkopia: I think a little bit more of Kingfordian culture would have worked in the logo. I like its bubbly effect, though. And did you hear it already? We'll send Anna Bovalovo!

The Euskal-Musika format is back! EUSK1 confirms participation in WHF13!
Since October 2012, Euskal-Musika was cancelled by EUSK1. The large Euskirribakondran WV and WHF fanbase was eagerly expecting its comeback... And now it's here, and revamped!

(HARRIKES, EUSKIRRIBAKONDARA) - EUSK1's new director, João Vasconcelos Castro, confirmed Euskirribakondara's participation in the 13th World Hit Festival today in a press conference few minutes ago (19:22, Harrikes time, UTC-7). And thanks to the government's budget allocated to media, EUSK1 is now able to spend enough on WV and WHF to host the fifth edition of the famous Euskal-Musika show. The news were very well-received online by the Euskirribakondaran fanbase, after they were worried Euskirribakondara would withdraw from the contest for the first time.

João Vasconcelos Castro told reporters that the fifth edition would be branded as EuskalMusika! 2013, and presented its new visual identity (featured above), inspired by WHF13's "mosaics" logo. He also confirmed that EUSK1 has incorporated "the participation in every World Hit Festival edition as one of our top missions as the national broadcaster of the Harrikía", whilst participation in the WorldVision Song Contest would vary depending on EUSK1's economical plans and general ratings for the latter.

Although the rules of the whole contest have not been completely explained (they will be posted later today), EUSK1's provincial websites are already calling for songs for "provincial finals" in eleven of the sixteen royal provinces (Andarri, Aranes, Bondargara, Erebuni, Harrikes, Kastelàm, Northern Sakhovelo, Qeekallit Nunaat, Southwest, Uirapurú and Vil D'Oski). It is unclear whether the other five provinces (Bilbauski, Lillamut, Silva, Southern Azerxurade and Tal-Arabak) will follow other selection processes, or will not participate at all.

Celebrating this decision, we will offer you a little journey through the past four Euskal-Musika editions...

Euskal-Musika1
On August 05, 2011, EUSK1 announced the first edition of Euskal-Musika. It had already been working undercover in order to select entries, and in the end, 34 entries participated in the event. They were first drawn into two semifinals of 17 songs each. Semifinal one, hosted from Garara Pod N°1 (12,899 attendants) in the evening of Saturday August 06, saw ten songs qualify for the final. Most of them were in Euskal or English language, and two favourites suddenly appeared: "Astuarmana" and "Bilbauski-Dantza". Semifinal two was hosted two days later from the same venue (13,000 attendants), and the favourites, "Xomboi!" took the first place. Ten songs qualified, and we saw for the first time nul points in EM. They were awarded to Don Juan's "Reggeaton Full" song. In this semifinal, most songs were in Euskal, Aranese, Spanish or English.

The final was hosted on the evening of tuesday August 09, 2011, from Harrikes Arena (24,000 attendants). It was a night filled with excitement as twenty songs competed to represent the country in both Worldvision and the World Hit Festival. In the end, the difference of points among the top three was of 4 points, and that's how a 'challenge final' was born (now called 'grand final'); including the ten best placing songs. The third-placing entry, "Toast In The Wind" by The Dusty Ones withdrew from the challenge final, and went on to represent their homeland, Monlyuxeburga, in WHF7 (coming 11th with 15 points). Before WHF7 they also participated in the Valdaranean final for WorldVision20, coming second.

The challenge final was hosted on the evening of thursday August 25 from Garara Pod N°1 (13,000), but instead of featuring ten entries, it featured eight, since Samira's "Astuarmana" and Anush Hakobyan's "Ser" withdrew. The former in order to represent Euskirribakondara in the 4th World Hit Festival, and the latter in order to participate in Euskal-Musika2. Here is the top four from that night:

1st - HarrikesDrums - "Bilbauski-Dantza" - Euskal, Aranese and English - 78 pts (entry #3)
A pure representation of Euskirribakondara's folk, it went on to represent Euskirribakondara in its début in the nineteenth edition of the WorldVision Song Contest. It came fourth with 98 points, Euskirribakondara's best result in the contest until today. In its WV version, it was extended and it included five more languages: Chenkoryan, Armenian, Sirbadian, Euskal Arabic and Lillamut.

2nd - Anne Rénard - "Temps Pour Refaire Notre Vie" - French - 66pts (entry #4)
This powerful ballad in French captivated many hearts that night, and fans still want Anne Rénard to represent Euskirribakondara some time in the future; however, she migrated to Le Amarok, where she is now having a more successful carreer. She was asked to go to WHF5 but declined citing schedule conflicts at the time.

3rd - Xoxo - "Chenkorya Na Miesa Plej" - Euskal, Sirbadian and Chenkoryan - 61pts (entry #1)
Due to the fact that WorldVision19 was going to be hosted by Chenkorya, Xoxo (from Chenkorya) decided to try to represent a foreign country, and she came to Euskirribakondara. Her turbofolk song was very well received, and her performance is now deemed a 'classic' by the fans.

4th - Antxara - "Milindagari Sebultsandega" - Euskal, Aranese and English - 56pts (entry #2)
This alternative rock song came fourth that night, but was finally appointed by EUSK1 as the Euskirribakondaran entry for the 5th World Hit Festival, changing the English lyrics for lines in French. Interestingly enough, it achieved a 6th place with 18 points, Euskirribakondara's worst result so far in the World Hit Festival, but still high compared to other countries.

Euskal-Musika2
After the good results obtained with the first edition of Euskal-Musika, EUSK1 decided to continue with the format. As EUSK1 prepared EM2, it also bid to host WorldVision20 (finally coming in third place). The show and its rules were announced on Sunday October 30, and a five day song-submission period was opened. On November 4 it was announced that a record-breaking number of 2568 songs had been submitted (1997 by national artists, 571 by international artists). Five more acts were specially invited by EUSK1, bringing the final number of entries to 2573.

On November 10, the 60 semifinalists were announced. In a matter of hours, Anne Rénard's "Ana", Anush Hakobyan's "Ser", Dalú's "Ha'kpaupa", Kristina & The Others' "Symphony 12001", Lena Kolashnikovian's "Another Time", Sara Monkada's "Natura", Totó's "Ngoma Ya Moyo Wanga" and Vlauka Dinotja's "Ööd" became the fan favourites. 57 artists were competing for the EM crown since Bandi Koltara, Kali and Leningrad2 were the only artists to have two songs in the semifinals. Linguistically and genre-diverse, EM2 kicked off with three semifinals of twenty songs each.

Due to the contest's popularity, EUSK1 decided to host all the three semifinals in the Harrikes Arena with a maximum capacity configuration (25,000 attendants), live from 15.40 to 18.00 (Harrikes Time). The contest was broadcasted live not only through EUSK1, but also through EUSKWorld (Flegavia, Rushmore, Atlantian Oceania and Esportiva), ValdCanal (Valdaranes), AHH (Artsakhestan), KBBS1 (Kingsley Bedford) and ZRTV (Saintrabina).

The first semifinal, on Sunday November 13, confirmed the popularity of Kristina & The Others and Anush Hakobyan; whilst Anne Rénard's "Ana" and Dalú's "Ha'kpaupa" somehow flopped and finished in a moderate 5th and 6th place, respectively. Chieko Orlich, a Chenkorian artist débuted in the Euskal music scene with her song "Bullet", and the controversial "Deine Tomato" by Wee-Doh finished with one point from the Kastelàm Province. Its whole lyrics and performance were inspired by a tomato fight. Eight qualifiers advanced to the final, including Bandi Koltara and Kali (whose second semifinalist songs would fail in SF2 and SF3, respectively). The first semifinal was not broadcasted by ZRTV.

The second semifinal, on Wednesday November 16, confirmed the popularity of Sara Monkada's "Natura", but it also marked the "big break" of two new stars in the Euskal music scene: Karolina Etséu and Elena, who shared the first place with two very different songs... the happy, upbeat, folk-inspired "Bring Me The Locks" and the slow, imponent, French-language, ballad "S'il Fallait Pleurer". Areberi's "Golpes de Amor" finished last with nul points, a fact that started the rumour of the "Spanish language curse" (both EM1's and EM2's nul pointers were sung in Spanish). Again, eight qualifiers advanced to the final, including Antxara's "Je Veux Partir", his attempt at coming back to WHF. The pre-show favourite Vlauka Dinotja, finished 11th with her Estonian song "Ööd".

The third semifinal was hold on Saturday November 19, and it was filled with newcoming genres (like Disco, Hinga-folk and Modern Orchestra). Leningrad2 finally qualified for the final (its first semifinalist song had failed in SF1), as did Lena Kolashnikovian. The other pre-show favourite, Totó, not only won this semifinal, but earned only marks of 6/7/8/10 and 12 points (something never seen again in EM) with her Bantulu-language folk song. Farina's "No Al Perreo" is also worth mentioning, since it was a Reggaeton song that finished 5th, being a social critic to many other Reggaeton songs that talk about different ways of having sex; and Xoxo's "Tyanet'" qualified to the final too. Xoxo had finished third in EM1 and was determined to launch a succesful career in Euskirribakondara through EM2.

The final took place on the afternoon (15.00 to 18.00, Harrikes Time) of Monday November 21. Besides being broadcasted by EUSK1, EUSKWorld, ValdCanal, AHH, KBBS1 and ZRTV, it was also broadcasted by NBO4 (The Kytler Peninsulae). Anush Hakobyan's "Ser" was revamped, as was Karolina Etséu's "Bring Me The Locks", which now included Chieko Orlich as featuring artist. 24 songs were perfomed and only 10 qualified for the Grand Final (this time, no grand-finalist wanted to withdraw). Xoxo, Lena Kolashnikovian, Dalú, Kali, Leningrad2, Antxara, Anne Rénard and Farina failed to qualify; and the new big favourites were "Ser", "Bring Me The Locks" and "Ngoma Ya Moyo Wanga", who received points from each of the twelve provinces (Qeekallit Nunaat, Northern Sakhovelo and Southern Azerxurade were not provinces at the time, but dependencies; and Uirapurú was still part of Rio de Fevereiro), though it wasn't announced that night because the top 10 results were not disclosed, in order not to influence the voting for the Grand Final.

The Grand Final took place on the evening of Tuesday November 22, again in HarrikesArena, but in the outside 150,000 people were watching in giant screens what was going on. With the highest rating ever seen in the Harrikía for a non-sports/non-royal event, the show selected the top 3 Euskirribakondaran songs, broadcasting through EUSK1, EUSKWorld, ValdCanal, AHH, BELTV (Belikovia), KBBS1, ZRTV and NBO4. It was hosted by Armán Vonok and Taliana Danberahaidia, and it featured ten songs, each one totally different from the other. The winning song ended up with 114 points, whilst the rest of the top 3 was tied with 83 points... These were, "Ser" by Anush Hakobyan (and now featuring Jan Danburrelgó), "Bring Me The Locks" by Karolina Etséu and Chieko Orlich, and "Ngoma Ya Moyo Wanga" by Totó Sambakileué...

1st - Anush Hakobyan & Jan Danburrelgó - "Ser" - Armenian, Euskal, Lillamut, Taloan, Mikunan, Hinga, Aranese, Russian - 114pts (entry #8)
This timeless ballad, accompanied by a quite large orchestra, was the most applauded act that night. Being the winner of Euskal-Musika2, it went on to represent the Harrikía in the WorldVision Song Contest 20, coming 5th with 83 points, with a final version that switched Russian language for Albanian and Bantulu. It was a very special entry still, because it was the first (and so far, only) time that an orchestrated classic ballad was performed.

2nd - Karolina Etséu & Chieko Orlich - "Bring Me The Locks" - English, Sirbadian, Bantulu, Euskal - 83pts (entry #10)
It was the only song that advanced to the Grand Final with English lyrics, and in fact, until WHF12 it was the only song to have had English lyrics to represent Euskirribakondara. With its characteristic folk twist, it gained the right to represent Euskirribakondara in the 6th World Hit Festival, where it won with 37 points, opening the "Golden Age" of the country in regard to WHF participation.

3rd - Totó Sambakileué - "Ngoma Ya Moyo Wanga" - Bantulu - 83pts (entry #1)
Defined as a song with "a lot of Drums and Eundarian essence", it has been so far the only monolingual Euskirribakondaran entry in an international song contest. Known better by the stage name Totó, this ethnic Eundarian artist has been the center of Bantulu folk music for 40 years (she was 68 by late 2011). In fact, she is the oldest main entrant so far in both contests (WHF and Euskal-Musika). She went on to represent Euskirribakondara (on home ground, by the way) in the 7th World Hit Festival, where it won with 44 points (a points record still kept).
