So my computer took a 4 foot suicide jump and is no longer working. I'm not sure how much I will be able to do until I get a new computer.

Major Parties

National Labour Party (NLP): Dominant political party of the 20th century, represents the interests of workers and service nobility but is also closely aligned with Austrasia's leading industrial conglomerates. Strongly opposed to foreign migrants settling in Austrasia, foreign competition to domestic industry and foreign takeovers. Favors pro-natalist social policies. Hawkish on foreign policy and strongly opposed to an rapprochement with former communist countries.

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP): Perennial third party. Represents primarily the interests of financiers, the extremely rich and ancient nobility. Consequently punches above it's weight in terms of resources. Primarily supports shrinking the state, economic liberalization and deregulation; especially free trade and the relaxation of capital controls as well as the relaxation of border controls. Dovish on foreign policy and prefers to encourage new investment and trade links with former communist countries.

Minor Parties:

Social-Liberal Party (SLP): Thinly-disguised communist party, the one of the only parties advocate the abolition of the monarchy and service nobility. Party of the marginalized. Has little appeal to the mainstream electorate but is infamous for staging frequent and destructive demonstrations. Considers itself the sworn enemy of the NDU and NSL. Hostile towards Tule and favourable towards the former communist states.

Christian Democratic Party (CDP): Party of Austrasia's Lutheran minority and stalwart ally of the NLP. Usually takes cues from it's bigger partner but works to ensure the religious “neutrality” of Austrasian institutions. Supports humanitarian issues in foreign policy and is stridently critical of the Foreign Ministry and the major Conglomerates dealings abroad.

National Salvation Union (NSU): Splitters from the PDU who represent the “republican” or “revolutionary” far right. Distinguished from the PDU by greater radicalism and a commitment to abolish the monarchy. Like the SLP it primarily draws its support from among the marginal elements of society; though popular lore maintains the NSU is at least one-third Gendarmerie informants. Closely associated with the outlawed paramilitary National Salvation Legion. Admirers of Tule.

Given what Tule has said elsewhere about Arab nationalism being a very recent import, I wonder if I should go more Arab or more sub-Saharan with my not-Africans.
Going with more Arab flavour would let me play the Ba'athist card.

Originally, it was tribal lines. I guess if someone tried badly exporting Ba'athism to Africa, I could still roll with that.
I'm saying "Ba'athism" in the belief that it was supposed to be a pan-Arab nationalist "socialist" movement. Not sure if it was meant to be "national-socialist" or nationalist "socialist" though, really.

I'm going to make another change to Tule's politics.

From a geopolitical standpoint the change is not a big one, but the system of government has changed quite a bit.

Tule is now a Constitutional Monarchy and is to some extent more liberal, but it has a very similar kind of constitutional monarchy as was present in Imperial Japan.

The King is the head of state, and Members of Parliament are elected democratically.

However according to Tulean law, only military officers are eligible to be appointed as Defense Ministers, and they may only serve with the permission of the Military high Command

In other words, no civilian government can form or operate without the consent of the Military.

You thought the Military-Industrial Complex was bad? Try a Military-Political-Industrial Complex.
