AV Brew Festival [No longer an active thread/Reference only]

Postby Neu Engollon » Tue Dec 04, 2012 12:29 pm

The Annual Alpen View Brew Festival goes on within the Confederacy in an IC capacity, but is no longer a hosted social character thread. Thanks for the memories to those who participated in the past!
Please take note: I will continue to host annual editions of the AVBF Rugby 7's Tournament on the NS Sports Forum.

The AVBF runs for a 3 day weekend. The beer, ales, meads, and other brewed beverage categories are judged in two batches over the first two days. The spirits/liquors and other distilled liquor categories are judged on the third and final day. There is always a map created for the grounds, as well as a schedule of events for each day, in flyers distributed to attendees. In addition, it is highly encouraged that beverage competitors and vendors create their own booth menus that would be visible to festival attendees. Musical and entertainment acts perform throughout the day and night on two stages within the main grounds. Exhibits are on the Auxiliary Grounds of Confederacy Park next to the main grounds of the brew competitor and vendor booths. The Auxiliary Grounds is also where the rugby sevens tournament is played out on 4 pitches.

The pavilion will be facing the main stage where the bulk of the entertainment is and it will also be raised up a bit to view the whole festival grounds.
You can taste as many samples as you wish of the beer and ale offerings, there should be 3 oz samples, 12 oz and 16 oz sizes, as well as take home growlers available. Possibly have a driver at the ready for your journey to your accommodations (hotel) at the end of the evening. No drunk driving, please. Arrrangements will be made to have shuttles to all the major hotels and taxis are plentiful in Burgunden.

One question, and I will trust your judgement if you're determined, but the Cooper Street Blonde sounds more like a saison/belgian or abbey ale than a pilsener/light. Are you sure you have the right category for it?

Boars Head Brewing would like to submit the following applications towards this event.

Image

Brewery or Beverage producer name: Boars Head Brewing

Nation of location: Anhui, The City State Rhydin

Head of Company/Brewery: Ghekard Vlos, CEO and Boars Head Brewery Global Strategeist

Storefront/link: Boards Head Brewing

Booth/Tent Special Requirements: Nothing special, just two banners of the brewery.

Beverage categories entering (Please delete categories you are not entering for readability):

Pale Ales/IPAs/ESBs:
Valkyrie Golden Ale
The Valkyrie is a traditional Rhydinian style ale, known as Jecun, named after it's creator. Originating in the central plains city of Anhui, Jecun ales have the characteristics that many people associate with lager beers. Valkryie is brewed with an ale yeast, but like other northern Rhydinian light ales, it is straw gold in color and light bodied. The flavor is mild. The hopping levels provide a crisp, dry finish that make this beer particulary refreshing.

Tamekrd (Delight) Organic Ale
Environmental pedigree aside, Tamekrd Organic Ale is a finely balanced beer with a mellow malt profile and subtle hop leading edge. On the ingredient roster: five types of 100% organic malted barleys and a complementary dose of Liberty and Sterling hops. It’s a profoundly satisfying, easy-drinking beer.

What’s more, no mere enviro wink and nod, Tamekrd Organic Ale is a true ode to Mother Earth. Both product and process have been carefully considered. Boars Head’s brewhouses are organically certified by the Rhydianian Enviromental Protection Services (REPS). And while all malts are organic, the hops story is a less told eco-tale. A full 80% Cymsuh-Safe, they’re grown so that surrounding streams are shaded, cool and run-off free, allowing migrating Cymsuh to flourish.

Stouts:
Upceteyh (Obsidian) Stout
Upceteyh Stout is as black as the nearby volcanic flow from which it gets its name. It’s a deep and satisfying experience, with distinct notes of chocolate, espresso, roasted malt and black barley. It is robust and full, with a big roasted finish.

Upceteyh, along with Krucd and Tyng, first set Boars Head on its renegade path of high-risk, high reward brewing. Any tour of great craft beer starts here.

Think of Upceteyh as the malt yin to Krucd’s hop yang, and the perfect beer to sit, contemplate and linger over.

Whedab Isk (Dark Star) Stout
Pitch black in color, this stout emits a nice, fresh aroma of light roasted malt and a touch of coffee and nuts. The body is very dark with no transparency and a small head of foam that disintegrates in due time.

This beer has an appearance that demands some respect, and the flavor is ferocious as the appearance would lead you to believe. The flavors present include roasted malt, some coffee, and a touch of chocolate. The beer has a bitter finish, but not too bitter, and it is lighter than expected.

Porters/Scotch Ales/Browns:
Pmylg Buum Porter (Black Pool)
The Pmylg Buum has immeasurable depth inviting you to explore and discover its rich, complex profile. Hints of molasses, licorice and other alluring flavors draw you in further and further with each sip. And at 11% alcohol by volume, you will want to slowly savor each and every ounce.

Tyng(Dark) Porter
Our flagship beer, Tyng Porter defined Boars Head as a place intent to follow its own brewing muse. At a time when dark beer was viewed with suspicion, this deep, satiny brew went out and dispelled the myths for a generation of enthusiasts. Tyng is rich in flavor yet easy to drink, with a creamy, smooth mouth feel. The slight hop bitterness up front only enhances the distinctive chocolate and roasted finish to come. It continues to reap accolades and medals from those who know best.

Wheat:
Puync (Boars) Ginger Wheat
Puync Ginger Wheat Ale is an ode to our original brewers favorite spice, ginger. The earthy, warming flavor of this golden-hued ale is derived from fresh ginger. Honey from a local Anhui farm yields a slight sweetness to balance the ginger spiciness. A hint of lemon adds acidity and rounds out the ginger flavor. Warm up your chilly winter nights with this ginger spiced beer.

No, just edit if you want. I just added a category to the application, which I think the Cooper St. Blonde would fit very well. You can copy and paste it from here>> Saison/Farm ale:

Sometimes Belgians and Farm ales overlap a bit, but I believe they may need their own separate categories because Belgians and Abbey ales can be darker, while farms tend to be light and creamy.

As multiple breweries are making entries, these are consolidated with the names of the brewery indicated in bold. More details of the breweries are given below.

Ambers/Reds/Ryes
Keefe's Red Sky Ale

Red sky at night, sailor's delight, but whatever the colour of the sky this amber ale is always a delight -- or at least that's what the labels on the bottle say. A subtle caramel and malty flavour. The oldest brewery in Haligonia, Keefe's plays greatly on the maritime character of its home province.

Belgians/Abbeys
Épéebroue, La troisème pistole

Épéebroue's branding references the Beaulacois folk hero Louis Chartris des Pins, a legendary swordsman executed for rebelling against a tyrannical Prince Regent in 1696, but the third pistol, a triple-fermented Belgian-style ale, is also a tribute to a more modern icon - the painter James Jerold, who helped spark a new wave of surrealist landscape painting in his spare time working as the youngest of three wildlife rangers in Twinklespring National Park. His death from drowning in mysterious circumstances only added to his legend. Strong body, hints of cloves and a smooth finish.

Lagers
Grandview Cypress Honey Lager

The Grandview brewery is a Burnaby city institution and every year Burnabians eagerly await the releases of its seasonal brews like the pumpkin ale in autumn and the rich winter ale. The honey lager is part of its all-year range, a malty with subtle hints of honey, a summertime favourite on the patios of Burnaby.

Doubles/Imperials
Etnier National Brewing Cooperatives (ENBC) Catfish Dark Ale

The ENBC is an association of cooperative micro-breweries in the province of Etnier which work together to achieve economies of scale in distribution and marketing that large companies are able to enjoy. This richly spiced dark beer is from the Perkins-Westerfeld Brewery in the Carlton district of Latrobe, brewed to a traditional recipe and aged in oak barrels, giving it a smoother taste.

VIP Attendee Application

Name of Attendee: The Hon. Juliet Langer, Minister of Culture and Tourism
Nation of origin: Kelssek
Pavilion box required (security of the pavilion will be easier): Yes

Kelssek:
VIP Accepted. I really like what I read of the entries, if there was any way you could fill out an application, or make an addendum post as far needs for a booth/tent, any food service, some of the other particulars. Do you have any storefronts or a liaison for all the breweries, maybe a head of the brewer's guild in Kelssek? Also, are the breweries all entering separately or as one guild or association/organization? (Again, that will effect location on the festival grounds, if they need multiple booth spots or will share one). Lastly, Grandview Cypress Honey Lager: You're welcome to keep it in the Lager category if you like, but you might also want to consider moving it to the Meads/Honey beer category.

TO EVERYONE: We still need entertainers, bands, talent for the main stage. Please help get some others involved. Anyone you know who has established NS acts, or likes doing goofy stuff like that. I will probably make up some myself soon. I will also be doing some searches when I have time.

Still taking all other applications as well: brewers, VIPs, sponsors.
We are not near a cut-off yet.

Also, BREWERS, start thinking about your offerings and prices for the attendees. We will do these standard sizes: 3oz samples, 8oz 'Irish' glass (half pint), 12oz standard glass, 16oz pint, 64oz growler fill.
For pricing, I will be working on BB's list to put up a good example, but for 3oz samples, H$ 1 (1 Helveti = $1.4 USD), for BB's imperials and rarer offerings: H$ 2-3 per 3oz.

Everybody needs to at least offer 3oz samples, especially for festival competition entries.
You may not want to offer every size for all your varieties, like the rarer, oak barrel aged ones, limited batches, etc.

For instance, Crimson Rye, a Triple rye, Burgunden Breuerie will be doing 3oz samples, 12oz std. glass and no growler fills, to make it last. Or you may want to stick with just pints and no 8oz or 12oz for some of your varieties/entries.

You may offer varieties at your tent that you did not enter officially into the competition, although I recommend entering to competition every variety you can (limit 2 per category)

Count on bringing at least 2-3 kegs of each variety you are offering at your tent, but I would definitely say more, especially of the lighter fare. Neu Engoleens are voracious beer drinkers. Plus, we're expecting good regional and NS attendance. You will run out quick.

Your offerings/price list can be posted here for critique, but I will ask you to repost it in the IC thread as well, when that gets going.

Any questions or comments, you can post here, or TG me.
Thanks.

Podunkers accepted. Thanks, me.

I'd like to give this a little bump up. I'm kind of wishing this was in the general Nation States forum at this point. Oh well.

If I could get a check in of everyone who's still involved. I will not neglect anyone who has applied, even if they never post again. I will still contest and scorinate all their beers and ales. It would just be nice to know there will still be some interest in the RP part as well on the IC thread. I still think we'll be on target for Jan/4/13.

If you can and have the time and desire, make price lists and menus like my previous example, for posting in the IC thread. Prices in Helvetis or NSD. If you do your own native currency, at least put up a conversion chart. The reason I ask for possibly some Helveti pricing is that most of the festival goers will be Neu Engollonians. HV$ 1 = NSD $ 1.4

Also, still need entertainers. You don't have to RP them, but it would be nice to fill the entertainment bill with some names other than ones I'd have to make up. I will be putting more focus on the festival soon, including editing the OP to reflect all the entrants. The IC thread will be up Jan. 4th. Any questions, you can post here or TG me. Thanks.
