In light of the recent Canhadasti situation, the Strategic Defense Corps has announced that it will officially take offline two of its active ballistic missile bases and place them on reserve standby. Reserve standby status means that it would take up to seven days to fully reactivate the base and fire its ordinance. "This will show our good will towards the treaty negotiations going on and send a clear cut message to Canhadast that we want to end this damnable conflict", said an SDC spokesperson at a national press conference. "This deactivation will allow us to transfer thousands of staff out of the base and put them to work somewhere better for the benefit of ending the current conflict, rather than be prepared to take it to the next level."
The government announced soon after that negotiations on the newly completed city of Nereus, the project to solve overpopulation Tarsas assisted in building and designing in New Edom, have begun on NBC proliferation. Delegates from all across Pardes have arrived to work out an effective treaty to eliminate the threat that looms over the heads of the people of Pardes. This conference was called after a spate of nuclear testing, all completed one after the other by Nalaya, The Cookish States, and the Earth Sphere Coalition. The Three Triumphs openly condemned the tests. Military development of nuclear and biological weapons have been halted completely until negotiations conclude, with promises to halt chemical development should the resulting treaty require it.
Questions have arisen as to what will happen now with Canhadast. It is currently unknown if they are expanding their NBC capabilities. Defense expert Leonius Septan had this to say. "It is likely that Canhadast has most likely not stopped its research into new ways of using and manufacturing NBCs. We should not fear, however, because our government currently possesses enough nuclear power to overwhelm most modern ABM systems and annihilate any developed country in a matter of hours." Calls for disarmament have rang loud and clear across Pardes in the recent weeks. Our government has shown it is clearly listening to the people on this matter.
Women Against Cultural Oppression or WACO has recently published a forty two page study that was made available for download online. The study discusses the cultural oppression of Tarsan women for thousands of years. It attempts to show "examples" of women becoming successful and coming out from under the cultural "oppression" that it claims exists. Several cultural preservation groups have scoffed at the report. Just recently, the High Court struck down the Ministry of Education's decision to ban the report from being distributed at schools, saying it was a clear violation of free speech.
Our network has completed several interviews with key figures in this so called "cultural revolution". Priscilla Atalis, head of WACO, had this to say when asked what her objectives were. "Our objectives are simple, to remove the vile oppression of women by male pigs who have seen it fit to confine them to their homes simply by having children with them. Our culture clearly expects them to stay home and not work for themselves. A strong independent woman is what we are looking to create, one that can stare a man down as her equal. Despite our government's best attempts with fair wage laws and fair work acts, women are still oppressed. We are fighting for our sisters daily."
Our investigation also revealed ties to a large Shraileeni feminist group. It seems many in WACO have converted to the Shraileeni religion, forsaking the true gods for others. The most shocking discovery was their intention to start a political party within the Senate. The Women's Party, as Atalis called it, has been registered as of the 20th of May. Several groups attempted to stop it, however the High Court stated it was within the right of any citizen to start a political party. The WP has said it will be running for Senate seats in the election later this year. Many women are expected to vote for them.
In direct opposition against the WP is the Cultural Preservation Society. The CPS director, Manelae Atella Regarius, permitted an interview with our network yesterday. When asked what he would do in opposition against WACO, he had quite an answer. "These women are clearly delusional. We have lived this way for thousands of years. It is a woman's job to tend her household and to raise the children and further future generations. In no way should the love of a tender nurturing mother be absent. Women that choose to go out and work, abandoning their children to school or a nanny, neglect their children by doing so. Women may not think they have that important of a role, but they clearly do. These women seek to undermine that highly important job with their lies. Women are just as respected as men in our society, but there are certain roles a woman must perform that a man cannot do well. I fear to see these women's children and how they will turn out."
Regarius' organization put in a party registration just today, announcing the Preservation Party. He has said it will be in direct opposition to the Women's Party. Both of these parties seem to be seeking very different goals. Whether or not what WACO is advocating is undermining Tarsan culture, no professional opinions have been offered. Most politicians are treading a very thin line and refusing to comment on this hot issue. It is expected to be a key issue in this year's senate elections when the Women's Party and the Preservation Party go head to head vying for senate seats. Both sides have announced they are formulating their answers for other key political questions such as encouraging continued economic growth, since a senate party cannot simply address one issue and win seats. Elections are looking to be quite heated this year.
