WHF8 Update

Official Logo and Slogan

The logo encompasses the two main themes of the show: Kuwakaribisha Kwa Ukirixîetu! (Welcome to Euskirribakondara!) and the Bantulu culture, which influenced the winning song of WH7 ("Ngoma Ya Moyo Wanga" by Totó Sambakileué). The slogan "Tukuala ni mueniu, ngoma ya moyo uakia wetu!" (Let's live the rhythm of our joyous hearts!) not only references the past winning song; it also invites everyone to live this celebration in the best way possible... The 8th World Hit Festival. The venue to be used is the Harrikes Bay Convention Center. The latter and the stage, designed by EUSketch can be seen on above posts.

WHFiC 1 held yesterday!

Image
Haurú Arena, venue of the concert

Around 40,000 people in the Haurú Arena partied with half of this year's artists. The stage was the one you can see in the photo, a medium-sized one, and the artists will be able to select some of the available props, a special color for the lights in the LED vertical screens and have up to 5 people joining them on stage. Here's the live report of each act!

Participating Artists (15)
Adrianna opened the night with a very good song, "Live and Learn". As usual, the Albertasbian entry is already a favourite, and despite not having a huge show (she was alone on stage, singing live), she did welcome everyone to WHFiC in the best way possible. On her green room she told us that she and her delegation expect to "finally bring the show to Albertasby. We cannot come 2nd or 3rd everytime *laughs*".

"En Dröm Magikal" or "A Magical Dream" was the second song performed. Mediterran language was understood by many Lillamut fans who were in the arena, due to the similarity of both languages. The rest of the fans enjoyed the song despite not understanding the lyrics. She sang live.

Of course, the Artsakhiani artist was received with a huge applause and cheering from the crowd. Her song "Ահա Թե Ինչպես Են" (This Is How) was sung along by the arena. Aysel was singing live on the stage, joined by a dudukahar (duduk player).

She was nervous, but Bokla Iklibinskaya had gotten over jet lag and too much cookies, and stepped onto the stage, ready to dance. As she put the finishing touches on her performance, the music played. She sang live, to the surprise of many, who saw lip-synching through the night. And, as her song ended, the crowd was on their feet, dancing and "partying hard".

Cezar was the first playback of the night, but most of the people didn't notice it. His folk-rock-ballad polish language song, "Walkiria" (Valkyrie) was a change from the past songs. The difference was appreciated by many who paid very close attention to Cezar, who was joined by two dancers and made an effective use of the light effects.

Daria Sasa also made playback with "Tonight Might Just Be The Start" and she was joined by six male dancers in boxer briefs. The act was all in all very sexy, and the everyone was impressed, but specially, there was a group of girls who almost died watching the male dancers, they are probably voiceless now.

The act on home soil had their song overshadowed by the whole crowd cheering, applauding and singing. Nonetheless, Donostia have declared they are very happy to have received such an energy. "Eqeersarneq" was performed live by the whole band, which meant being the only act without a backing track. On a very quick interview they declared: "our intention isn't winning... we know that that is very unlikely. But a second place could happen, and we are aiming for that. After all, the only thing we care about is showing another face of Euskirribakondaran music, and welcoming everyone to WHF8". They also told us they've talked to all the other 14 participating acts of WHFiC.

Fifth Focus performed Illuminatus IV in Reythan language, bringing Avant-Garde Industrial Black Metal to the concert. The vocalist sang live, but the instruments were making playback. They were the most different act of the night, since they barely used lights and everything was focused on their lyrics and the LED suit of the vocalist.

Hamish was glad to be a part of WHF in Concert. It was great to be part of something so big and to perform to thousands of fans from many different nations and the warm welcome he received from the Euskirribakondaran's. He enjoyed meeting other contestants backstage, especially Wilfred Test's Leo Green.

Hüsniye was welcomed almost as well as the Euskirribakondaran act, after all Azərşuradə will become the 14th province of Euskirribakondara soon. She was joined on stage by four female artistic dancers. "Bəli, Bilirsiniz" was sung along, and there was something very interesting.. The first half of the song was playback, and the second half was live. We don't know why, but when we asked Hüsniye she said she had had problems with the microphones at the start because of her choreography. She declared she hopes to "deliver the best farewell act for Azerxurade".

Leo Green was present and besides singing at WHFiC, he enjoyed tasting the foods of Euskirribakondara and becoming friends with other participants. He also loved listening to other entries and getting a general sense of the competition.

Liz sang "В тихам омуте черти водяца" (In Still Waters, Devils Live) was performed on playback, but again, it was barely noticed. She had a very good attitude on stage but we were not able to interview her because she was sick (that was also the reason of playback, according to her manager).

Almost closing the night, the favourite of many fans around the world, and also of those at WHFiC. Joined by five dancers and dressed up in a very interesting suit, she performed live. Singing and dancing on a very impressive way. It was a way of predicting how her act will be in Harrikes. She declared, after the applauses ended... "I promise you a great show. I hope you vote for me, because I love you all. Always stay yourself". "Buonanotte" is now leading (with a high number of percentage) the odds in the Fledgling Region. She dedicated this performance to her mother, who was in the crowd.

"Shadow" was performed on playback but Romana gave a very good attitude to the crowd. She enjoyed discovering Euskirribakondara as this is her first time here.

"Сяяти Як Зірка" (Shine Like A Star) in English and Ukrainian, closed the night. Since the nation it represents has Armenian heritage, both Artsakhiani and Euskirribakondaran fans cheered her up. She did playback, except for the last part of the song, in which she interacted with the crowd.

Today, them (and all the other artists) are flying to Harrikes, to start the week of rehearsals. Sponsored by EUSKAir.

Are you ready for WHF8?

Changes on two entries approved by the WHFAB

Image
Flag of Anglo-Britannia

Anglo-Britannia (Anglo-Britainia) had originally submitted a rock version of "Eternal Heroes" by Dirk Dasher; but now the song has been revamped into a rap-rock version to be performed with The Hijacker, a popular Anglo-Britannian rapper. That version is the one that will be performed in the Harrikes stage on June 10th to the worldwide audience.

After several talks with the QEP and the problems that Uliana Hayaxadov has had with her personal life and professional commitments, it has been decided that "Сяяти Як Зірка" (Shine Like A Star) will not be the Gaituzsthan début entry. Instead, a song called "Un Jour" to be performed in English and French, by a yet unknown artist, will represent the tiny Ukrainian-Armenian country. The tune has been revealed to be this one, being something between operatic pop and europop/dance.

Mademoiselle brings WHF to Chenkorya!

Image
Mademoiselle in the WHF8 final

The final of the Eighth World Hit Festival ended close to June 17's midnight, and after a very tight and intense process of voting, Mademoiselle won with 36 points received from 11 of the 27 participant countries. Donostia ("Eqeersarneq (Awakening)") earned 35 points, thus giving Euskirribakondara a succesful silver placing, continuing their record of good placings since their début in WHF4 (so far they have 3rd, 6th, 1st, 1st and 2nd places). Folkand continued Saintrabina's tradition of good placings as well, finishing third with 34 points thanks to Cezar Boree's "Walkiria (Valkyrie)".

The song "Buonanotte (Good Night)" was performed next to 150 dancers from more than 20 countries, in English language and Italian. It captured the warmth of the Euskirribakondaran hearts, and next to the home act, it was the most applauded performance, and it had already been a favourite since the start of the contest. A remarkable fact is that most of the non-english entries finished on high positions.Snezhana Smeets, the head of delegation of Chenkorya said "We are still overwhelmed by Mademoiselle's victory".

During the Winner's Press Conference, Mademoiselle was interviewed by several Euskal journalists. Here's a bit of what she said..
I want to dedicate this win to my Euskal mother, to my Chenkoryan father.... And of course, to all the Euskal and Chenkoryan fans. I feel so great after having received such energy from the crowd... And I'm still amazed by how I turned out to be a winner. It was a very tough competition, and I want to thank everybody who voted me. We're already preparing a very amazing show in Stephani for all of you to enjoy.

She also declared that she might not come back as a performer to ChenkorVision, thus, not having the possibility to participate in WHF or WorldVision. The CBU has finally fulfilled its wish of hosting the World Hit Festival, and they have declared it will be hosted in Stephani, the hometown of Mademoiselle. They have promised the best show ever, but just like every other nation, they have praised the work EUSK1 did hosting WHF8.

Are you ready for Stephani?

WHF9 Update

Image
Logo of WHF9

The Chenkoryan Broadcasting Union (CBU) has already released the first things concerning their hosting rights for the 9th World Hit Festival. They even made an intro video that you can watch HERE. For further details, the spokesperson of CBU and the Chenkoryan Head of Delegation, Snezhana Smeets said:

We are still overwhelmed by Mademoiselle's victory. During the 8th World Hit Festival we already looked for a host city in case we'd win, we had Svobodata, Entvisfen and Stephani as options. Since Mademoiselle's hometown is Stephani, we decided it would host WHF9. Stephani is a great host city, because it has everything a tourist needs. All the WHF fans can sleep in Stephani's great hotels. They can visit the beaches if they want, go shopping and everything. If they want culture and nature, they can take a super-fast train to the other side of the country. Although it would take a day by car, you can get to Entvisfen in two hours, and you can visit Avenion and the west coast in 5 hours.

We have chosen the recently build StephaPhone arena to be the host venue. It is a big arena, 24,000 seats, which is already quite a big difference with the previous WHF. Also the stage will be a bit smaller. In Chenkorya, we don't have the mentality of "the bigger the better". This does not mean WHF will be a living room concert, just an event with down to earth style. The postcards and other graphics will be better than ever though. We've chosen "We Breathe Music" as a slogan, since we all do. Dear fans, let's breathe music the next WHF, we promise you the best WHF ever.

We Breathe Music!
We Ademen Muziek!
Myu Dykhakustyo Muzyka!

No details on the hosts or the stage have been released so far....

But will tell you when we know about it!

Samira comes back to the WHF thanks to Euskal-Musika3

ImageImage
Samira and Jan Ardegorrián

As usual, Euskal-Musika, the largest national final of WHF and WorldVision (with ChenkorVision) decided the Euskirribakondaran entry for the upcoming World Hit Festival. Its third edition was held on March, but it had already decided entries for WHF8 and WHF9. Through this format, 60 songs from Euskirribakondara (with invited acts from other countries) go through a series of 3 semi-finals, a final and a grand final (March 12, 14, 19, 21 and 22). The winning song goes to WorldVision; the 2nd and 3rd placed songs go to World Hit Festival (in that order).

Due to Samira's performance on WV21 (she achieved seventh place with "Ixo Izan Es", partnered up with Haritz), her song with Jan Ardegorrián, titled "The Call", couldn't participate in WHF8. It earned a second place on Euskal-Musika3 with 123 points... 15 points ahead of "Eqeersarneq" by Donostia (which earned 3rd place in Euskal-Musika3; and second place in WHF8) (Check out the full results here).

Jan Ardegorrián is an expert on music from the Lillamut Province, and Samira, well... you know Samira. Their song incorporates Symphonic Rock, Lillamut Folk and Folk Rock. The lyrics include Euskal and Georgian language, and two more, débuting in the World Hit Festival: Lillamut and Mikunan. The tune can be listened to HERE. It is already becoming popular among the WHF fanbase, to which Samira has claimed "It's just amazing to be in such a friendly atmosphere. That's what I love of the World Hit Festival!".

Will they keep the continuous top-6 for Euskirribakondara?

TKCTV2, the broadcaster from The Kiaser Colonies has confirmed the Kiaser participation in WHF9, to be hosted in Stephani, Chenkorya. Sakhovelo enters too, a nation that has just been born after the Euskal Overseas Lands of Esportiva was divided into the Euskirribakondaran Province of Sakhovelo, and the Independent Nation of Sakhovelo. EUSK1 Sakhovelo has announced they'll make a national final, whose details can be seen here...

Each one of them will sing two songs, and the national televote and jury vote will select the winner, which will represent Sakhovelo in WHF9; and the runner-up in FR-Vision 2. Possibly, the third place will go to FR-Vision3, but that is still under discussion.

Astrolinium comes back, as promised

Image
Logo of REIA-TV

REIA-TV1 came back as they announced in the starts of the WHF8 season. Citing problems with their schedules and a problem with the originally selected entrant, they withdrew from WHF8 in order to come back in WHF9. They actually did. Thomas Altier had been selected to represent the country in WHF8, but his mother's recent death was an obstacle. For WHF9, he was internally selected again to represent Astrolinium with an English-language song called "Why'd You Make Me Cry?". It is a song in the pop genre and it has been told the tune will be revealed afterwards.

Thomas Altier, aged 19, is the son of Leonidas and Catrina Altier. When he was ten, his father died in a terrible housefire, forcing he, his mother, and his little brother to seek refuge with his grandparents. When he was 16, his little brother ran away during a trip to a distant country and soon after Thomas came out with his first single, "Where Are You?". Since that time, he has released three more singles and a very successful album, which was entitled "Carmina Thomasa".

His song for WHF9 has been written in the wake of that first loss as well as his fiancee, Katarina Ephegenetos, leaving him at the altar. Many girl WHF fans are already sending him messages of support from all around the globe.

Will this support be translated into a good position in the WHF9 final?

Artsakhestan continues with Yergi P'arratonë

Image
Logo of Yergi P'arratonë

Despite rumours that the Artsakhiani format of selection for WHF9 would change since many established artists announced their desire to represent Artsakhestan, AHH: Արծախիանի Հանրային Հեռուստաընկերություն (Artsakhiani Hanrayin Herrustaynkerut’yun, Public Television of Artsakhestan), the broadcaster responsible for the Artsakhiani participation in both WHF and Worldvision, announced the comeback of the Yergi P'arratonë (Song Festival).

Its third edition will feature 2 Heats with 10 acts each, and the 2 winners of each heat will qualify to the final. Several auditions have been held throughout the country and the 20 semifinalists were already announced on their webpage. In the final, each one of the 4 finalists will sing "Բարեւ Արեւ" (Barev Arev), an Armenian pop song composed by Sargis Der-Hovagimian with lyrics by Sirusho Shahgeldyan and Sofi Shahumyan (winner of WV20, 4th place in WV21).

On the heats, the artists will sing a Eurovision-song on Monday, a WHF-song on Tuesday, an Artsakhiani song on Wednesday, an English-language song on Thursday, and a free-themed song on Friday. Throughout each heat (a week) the public votes on the best artist, and on each heat there is one winner.

The final as said before, will feature 4 performing acts; and the language of the song has already been determinated to be Armenian. Many have heard the song and as it was composed for a female vocalist, this edition of Yergi P'arratonë will just feature female soloists.

The first heat will start on Monday June 25. The second heat will start on Monday July 2. The final will be held on Sunday July 8.

It's The Collaborators from Krumbia!

Image
Logo of KNN Music, the Krumbian broadcaster

Krumbia has been announced as the first débuting nation of the 9th edition of the World Hit Festival, to be hosted in Chenkorya. The Krumbian Charts Talent Show served as the national final for this newcomer, as it is a show in which some of the least known artists from the charts bid to become famous. The band 'The Collaborators' won with the song "Coming Home", an alternate rock song entirely in English. The rhythm of it can be heard here.

How many débuts do you expect on WHF9?

A 100% Polkopian-language entry in Stephani

Image
Svetlana Kasonovo, the Polkopian entrant

Nikolai Fernsov Television or NFTV, the Polkopian broadcaster, has announced its will to participate in the WHF9. Svetlana Kasonovo has been internally selected to sing her pop song, "Prokleva" (Lucky Clover) in Stephani. The excellent news is that it will be entirely performed in Polkopian, unlike past Polkopian entries.

Svetlana is a seventeen year old whose father was killed in the Polkopian Revolutionary War. Ever since then, she devouted herself to let others acknowledge the pain that she felt. The only way she found she could do it was through song, so day and night, she practiced singing to others until she was surprisingly, without any warning, nominated to participate in WHF8, where she came in third, but she later returned in WHF9, where she won by a landslide.

Will this entry prove succesful?

Motokata bids with Motokatan Chinese

Image
Mei Chen, Motokatan Entrant

After watching recent results in which English monolingual entries did not fare as well as entries with other languages, MBC-i has decided to bid for the win in the 9th edition of WHF with a song in Motokatan Chinese. Mei Chen was internally selected to fly the Motokatan flag with the rock/grunge song "暴风之眼" (Bàofēng Zhī Yǎn, The Eye of the Storm). In a national final organized specially for Mei Chen, this song was selected.

Mei Chen, (born Zhao Wei 赵薇) was born and raised in the slums of Wuhu city in the Hefei Provence. Growing up in poverty with an on-again-off-again addict mother and a seldom seen father. When she was 13 she was sent to live with her grandparents in the infamous 4th District of the city which has been known for it's high crime and drug activity. Mei was never able to attend school due to her families limited means and a need for her to help in the shop. Mei was known to be rebellious in her youth, frequently sneaking out late at night, disobeying orders even one or two run-ins with the law, she found her self attracted to the underground music scene played into the various clubs she snuck into and learned from the various musicians how to pick up and play a guitar. Once she was 17 she was out on her own and playing clubs, starting out with mostly covers of songs by artists she befriend being unable to write her own lyrics or music.

At 18 she was discovered in a club by a music producer and was signed to Inferno Records with a full contract and remains with them today. Mei today is now fully literate but can only speak Chinese and works with various interpreters to help her with Motokata's other languages. The song "Eye of the Storm" which she will be presenting for WH9 is inspired by her life in the slums. MBC-i has announced that its contents may not be suitable for all ages.

Do you know how to speak Chinese?

Costa Fiero débuts. Spanish language makes a comeback.

Image
Costa Fiero's flag

TeleVisión Nacional (National Television) was just appointed as Costa Fiero's legitimate broadcaster for the World Hit Festival. It announced that Canal 1 and TeleMúsica will be the broadcasting channels of the corporation for WHF9, and also, that they've already selected a world-class artist to represent them.

Aliccia Vásquez (born Alicia Vásquez) is a 34 year old singer who has had many hits domestically but has never taken her talent overseas. She has been labelled as the "Céline Dion of South America" for her beautiful vocal skills and performing talent. If this was not enough, she is also an environmental activist who works hard in Costa Fiero's society.

She decided, with her staff altogether, that she'd represent Costa Fiero with the song "Tómame Contigo" (Take Me With You), entirely in Spanish and with an orchestration that many critics have praised. Therefore, TeleVisión Nacional is already confident on a very good result in Stephani.

You can listen to the tune of her song HERE

Valcluse keeps on. This time, with Léoni Garigulo!

TVG has confirmed its participation on the next World Hit Festival edition after coming 13th with 14 points in Harrikes (WHF8). They have internally chosen Léoni Garigulo with her upbeat pop song in English language, "Disco Lady". For the rhythm... you can check it out HERE. Léoni Garigulo is a relative newcomer to the Valclusian music scene having made her name in as one of the stars of a local high-school choir. She also participated in a couple of musicals and studied for a Licence Profesionelle at Valence University in Music Studies. She won Best Under 25 Singer at the 2011 Valclusian Music Awards and has just celebrated her 22nd birthday. Léoni Garigulo is half-Chenkoryan on her mother's side. Her father is Italian and is also one of her voice coaches.

Will this half-Chenkoryan girl win in Stephani?

Bloodbath Generation aims for 24 points instead of a 24th position

Image
Logo of TopTV, the Bloodie broadcaster

Despite high confidence on Bokla Iklibinskaya and "Da Da Love", the song finished on a joint 24th position with Giligan with just one point. Nonetheless, TopTV has prepared everything for a better position this time. Contrversially picked, Jigi Pishkibibi is a self-proclaimed "Countryside middle-aged grumpy substitute teacher and hammer thrower". A close second and third were Bishniklova Lola and Constantina Iklibinskaya, sister of their WHF entrant Bokla Iklibinskaya.

The national final was held quickly after WHF8, and was won by Jigi Pishkibibi's song "Bray Kaway", an ethnic-pop, polka song that includes five languages, equaling "Eqeersarneq"'s record for most languages in a song; Countryside, Korean, Tagalog, Swahili and English. The lyrics have no direct translation, and the song is already a fan-favourite for its very basic but don't-forget-me tune.

Only one thing is sure... Jigi will be the novelty act of this edition!

Deandean98 will début!

DDB (DeanDeanBroadcasting!) has been appointed as the official broadcaster for Deandean98, the third débuting nation of this edition. However, it has not announced a song yet, but they introduced us to their already selected artist. It's Zach Z Top!

Zach Z Top was born on the streets of Wagner, where he learned to sing on the streets. He got a ton of money, but unlike many people, he did not use it for drugs. Instead, he turned into an MMA fighter. He went into the Arena of NationStates Fighters, and even won the Welterweight Championship belt from a 2 time champion that defended it SEVEN times in that reign. He lost it soon to a different person, and promises that the two will not counter act in schedules. A "rags-to-rich" story as he also runs the Englishman Factory, a MMA training facility, in Wagner, Deandean98.

Stay tuned for more news on Zach Z Top's song!

Bessavaria enters as 4th débuting nation!

Image
Bessavarian Flag

It is already starting to look as if this edition would have an important number of debuting countries. Fernsehen-Beßavar, a broadcaster from The Empire of Bessavaria (Kaiserreich Bessavaren) has entered the competition to be held in Stephani, Chenkorya. "Männer von Kaiser Karl" (Men of Emperor Karl), by Sterntote, a rock-metal song with German language lyrics will be their first entry.

Sterntote is a newer band, formed in 2007. Formed by Georg Starmfeldt, Stefan von Grabstuck, and Piter Vaudeck. Known for their first hit album, "Bestien von Rom", Sterntote became one of Bessavaria's hit bands. They've announced that their tune is as simple as "Bum-da-dun/Bum-da-dun/Dun-bum-dun" but everyone in Bessavaria knows they will bring a worldclass show even without a tune.

Welcome Bessavaria!

Chenkor-Vision4 has officially ended.... We'll hear Chenkoryan in WHF9!

Image
Made of Hair, the Chenkoryan title defenders

"Ui Vshyakomi Razhyu" (Anyhow) is an Indie Folk - Indie Pop song performed and composed by 'Made of Hair', a Chenkoryan band. Their song will become the first Chenkoryan song in Chenkoryan language in the World Hit Festival, a fact that many critics and fans (specially Euskal) are already praising. They came second in Chenkor-Vision4, the Chenkoryan national final for WorldVision and the World Hit Festival. You can watch the final HERE again. Even Samira participated as a votes announcer!

Made of Hair are an indie folk and indie pop band which formed in 2010 in Entvisfen (the Chenkoryan capital), but all members are from the province of Sazapkhulo. The band consists of Pauline Kalinina (vocals, guitar), Stepan Zuev (vocals, guitar), Felix Balabanov (guitar), Matti Nuorela (bass), Jessie Sorentino (keyboards, accordion) and Róbert Húvzal Vicksel (drums). They released their debut album "I'm Not Made of Hair!" in september 2011, whose first single turns out to be "Ui vshyakomi razhyu". The tune of their song is HERE.

Since they will be defending the Chenkoryan title, everyone is sending them their best wishes, including Mademoiselle, who met them in Bilbauski a few days ago. Mademoiselle chose Bilbauski as the place for her vacations after her win in WHF8, and there she met 'Made of Hair', since the band was (and still is) promoting their music around Euskirribakondara, Artsakhestan and Sakhovelo.

Mademoiselle has declared...
Nothing fills me with more emotion than knowing that Chenkorya will be proudly represented by such an act. I love them, and I love the song, since it has a unique sound. I'm pretty sure that they will not disappoint anyone. And wait 'til you see me there in Stephani as well! *winks*

In Euskirribakondara they're being received with lots of good energy for their hard work and their use of the Chenkoryan language. In Euskal culture, the use of the national language for international events is a show of respect towards everyone; so 'Made of Hair' are almost heroes there. Their next concert will be in the Harrikes Summer Music Festival, and it is rumoured they might even win an award there.

Go 'Made of Hair'!

Hagasvyo. 5 débuts already!

Image
Flag of Hagasvyo, the débuting nation

"Why Did You Have To Go?" by Rami Weiner, has been selected by TopTV-Hagasvyo to represent the little country on its WHF début. Due to very strong ties with Bloodbath Generation, Hagasvyo decided to selected this song that participated in the Bloodies' National Final for WHF. It is a ballad, totally in English-language, with this tune and based on a tragic story that can be read here as well, of Haeley McGuire. The message and intent behind the song has already been remarked by many WHF fans.

Welcome to the WHF, Hagasvyo!
