WHF12 Stage Revealed!
The fourth design coming from EUSKetch is inspired by the aurora borealis and the ever-icy landscapes of Qeekallit Nunaat; and for the fifth time, this enterprise will set it up... Now in the Great Nanoq Opera House.
After much speculation about the WHF12 stage, EUSK1 has finally unveiled the stage that will be used for the great show. It is evidently different from past stages, and this time Euskirribakondara has gone for a certain simplicity in shapes and design, but that will allow a massive array of possible effects and shots to make every performance memorable. Let's take a look at the stage, part by part....
For the second time in WHF history (WHF8), the stage will not be at the front of everyone.... Everyone will be around the stage itself. It will be built right in the center of the Great Nanoq Opera House after some works of adequation and renovation took place. It's quite basic in itself, two squares located in opposite extremes of the field, connected by ramps and by a giant circle square in the center of everything. Arcs, ladders, walls, screens and a floating structure complete the image. Here (and in most images from now on), you can see the default stage; this means, with the base colours and imagery of this edition. Are you worried about seeing your artist always from his back? Well, here's another new feature.... The central circle staged rotates 360 degrees! Add up a high-fidelity sound, and voilà!
As established already, the audience will surround the stage; but in two ways. One of them is in the VIP seating, which is in the floor that surrounds the stage itself; and the other one is in the skyboxes (not seen in the pictures, but located in the edges of the whole 'cube' that appears pictured). The above is the view from a corner skybox towards the central circle staged.
The two squares that are located in opposite corners of the arena are called Aurora Squares. They're squares with an arch, and a system of tall (up to 10 meters) tubes that display different colours and shades of them. The floor is in itself a LED screen that can display any abstract imagery (here you have an ice layer that evocates glaciers); and the archs and tubes change depending on the requirements of the performance. Here, they are pictured in the namesake of this zone of the stage... An aurora borealis pattern. The aurora squares are also the main entrance to the stage from the backstage, through that metal door you can see in the bottom right corner. The tubes were placed in an special way that creates a maze of elements behind (or why not, in front of) the performers (and also in a way they could create an open path towards the entrance/exit doors). Take a look at two random shots from the spider camera of the Aurora Squares.....
Well, to go from the Aurora Squares to the central circle shaped stage the easiest way are the ramps. They have the same floor of the central stage (which will be explained in the next image), and they go over the orchestra pit (same story). As you can notice, the central stage is a bit taller than the Aurora Squares. The ramps can be effectively used for cool walking shots of the performers, a move quite common in upbeat songs.
And here is the centerpiece of it all.... the central (circle shaped) stage. As you can notice, there are three different levels. The lower one is the orchestra pit. The second level is the main one, and it is surrounded by 22 spotlights (remember 22 is a lucky number in Euskirribakondara) [OOC: Incredibly enough it wasn't on purpose when I made it!]. And the rest is just a 'simple' floor at first glance. Well, it is an special rotating floor that can change of colour pattern when needed... Which allows the audience and artists to enjoy a 360° experience; and customizes the environment for any given performance. The third level is quite small, but it's probably the stage zone that will be used the most (explained later on). Elevators exist in the second and first levels, to create an alternative way to enter/exit the stage.
The orchestra pit is a ring that surrounds everything and that is separated from the audience thanks to a white rock wall that reminds us of an igloo (unseen in the image are two small round platforms that stand out the crowd on both sides of the stage and are meant for a conductor to be on). They have also two transversal cuts on both sides, that are right in front of the stairs that artists and staff can use to get to the second (main) level of the central stage. What if the artists want to really get into the crowd? Well, here's the direct path they can use!
Even when small, it is quite important because it is the real center of the stage, the arena (even of Narsaattoq during the time of the contest). The floor is a special type of glass that can withstand severe conditions (of heat, cold, weight, etc.) and can be either totally transparent (as above) or can actually have a colour (without a lot of opacity, of course). It is like a well, actually, because below this glass floor, there's a hole with a water fountain in the bottom, and encircled by white stone (as the orchestra pit). The third level itself can be used for performing, or for placing several props.... Or releasing fire/water/fireworks. It is pretty much a multi-tasker.
You probably noticed a few images before that there was a yellow thing hanging above the central stage. It is not just a simple light, it is actually a mini stage in itself. A bit small, but EUSK1 took all safety measures here, and anyone standing on it is actually 'wired' to the roof of the stage. This mini stage is also the central spotlight, and can change to any colour. It was named 'northern light' because like that star, it is the most important, the most shining and the one that everyone looks at.
By now you were probably wondering what had happened to the everpresent screens. Well, working with the new modus operandi of the stage, the screens are no longer in the stage itself. In the WHF12 stage, there are two giant screens on opposite corners of the arena; that on the camera look behind the central stage. The screen has the capacity to display 3D mapping effects; and otherwise, it is a very-high-definition screen. Probably the largest screens on a WHF stage so far (next to WHF10).
And here are two pictures in a red layout to watch a different 'angle' of the stage. Click also on the subsequent spoiler for some interesting random shots taken all around the stage.

Overview
From the Audience
As established already, the audience will surround the stage; but in two ways. One of them is in the VIP seating, which is in the floor that surrounds the stage itself; and the other one is in the skyboxes (not seen in the pictures, but located in the edges of the whole 'cube' that appears pictured).
