Land of Fire
Lyrics and music by Karl Lyngstein, 1974

I grew up down in the shadow
Of Mount Fijral, the great volcano
A Swede lived a life of being kicked around
No hope and little jobs to be found

CHORUS:
I come from the Land of Fire
I've struggled through mud and barbed wire
I've braved the wettest storm and the coldest frost
'Cos you've got to fight to survive at any cost
Oh Land of Fire

They came down to my father's door
Told us a boat was waiting on the shore
They told me "Boy, don't you understand,
If you want to live, you flee to Geadland."

We spent years camping in the mud
Then we got a house that collapsed in the flood
A local man said "Boy, you annoy us all the time
You guys take our jobs and cause so much crime"

CHORUS

I had an uncle who wouldn't move away
He was shot like the others who tried to stay
I managed to see him before I left

I had a girlfriend in my high school
I didn't see her before I left
I've been looking for her all over Leghel and Eie
I've always hoped that she survived the fire
And that she ain't cooped up in Luziyca
Like my old friend Tomas

Sometimes when I look out over Eie Bay
Walking on the beach at the end of the day
I see a vision of Mount Fijral on the horizon
Lit up red by the setting sun

CHORUS

The song first appeared on Lyngstein's album Land of Water which was released in October 1974. It was the last track on the album, while the album was opened by its title track. The song is about Swedish Vyvlanders who were expelled from South Vyvland in 1945 - particularly how many of them came to Geadland (especially Arje) homeless, unemployed and struggling to integrate into a new country. Others ended up in West Luziyca and East Luziyca, where they faced even worse poverty, or were executed for failing to escape. This song was released as a single on 12 January 1975 - the 30th anniversary of their expulsion.

Fijral is located inland; there is no possible way the volcano or any other part of Vyvland can actually be seen from Arje (called Eie in the song).

Trailer to "Code Crush" the Anime - A JHK Production

*A map of Esquarium is shown, with two arrows seemingly from Namor and Luziyca pointing to the place where Aigarion is. Cuts to workers looking up to the skies to see fighter planes approaching.*

The date was August 10th, in the year 2290 of the Lumorian Calendar. The Republic of Aigarion became a dominion of the Federation. The Western Esquarian nation had steadfastly held its neutrality...

And now Lumoria reigns as Western Esquarium's only superpower.

*Cuts to men parachuting onto the ground with guns readied; people running away in fear; soldiers capturing buildings; citizens shot while running away; civilians being cornered by military forces; and what looks like a collective grave with lots of bloodied carcasses.*

Zone Number 5.

The defeated and once proud Republic of Aigarion was rechristened with a mere number.

*A boy shows up*

"This Lumoria... will be obliterated!"

*Cuts to a scene showing a young man, whose hand is grabbed. He is then seemingly stuck in the midst of fantasy-nature vines, and dragged quickly to the background of the scene.*

If you could change the world...

... would you be a God...

... or a Demon?

*Cuts to soldiers pointing guns at their own necks, seemingly in a happy and suicidal fashion.*

"Happily, Paramount Leader!"

"Well then..." *the young man smiles*

*The screen shows what seems like advanced bipedal, humanoid machines. Cuts to one of them shooting projectiles at another; a group of them shooting, with collapsed buildings in the background; and one of those machines flying out of a truck. It then shows a different young man in some sort of prisoner clothes.*

"Please, Sir, you don't understand..." *The man is mildly electrocuted by a collar around his neck.*

*Cuts to the machine which just flew out of the truck rushing at the screen, showing a girl screaming in a warrior-esque fashion inside. Then, the prisoner just shown now wearing a tight jumpsuit, a woman leaping on a seat, a mystical eye, a group of three people appearing from smoke, and then finally, someone presumably looking like a General.*

"Destroy Shinyaku Ghetto; leave no rats alive!"

Nero Hour is approaching.

Are you ready for the Revolution?

The Alternate History of Project "Code Crush"

1610 CE/1950 LMR/2270 SJD - "Đại Đế's Rebellion", as it became known in Namo, ended in failure. Đại Đế was forced to commit suicide by the Namorese, who subsequently entered an "Antelopian Scare". Antelopians who expressed the slightest idea of subversion of the Namorese state were thus accused of treachery against the Empire and executed accordingly. Antelopian culture was prohibited within the Akka Empire.

1620 CE/1960 LMR/2280 SJD - The Akka Emperor attempts to invade Lusatia, but is met with strong resistance and fought against by the newly-formed Holy Lusatian Empire, who elect a super-leader, Albinus of Bethlelem, who summarily becomes the first member of the Lusatian Imperial Family.

1645 CE/1985 LMR/2305 SJD - With the Akka Empire entering decline, the Holy Lusatian Empire invaded Namo and executed the last Akka Emperor. Around this time, Lusatian traders found out Namor's abundance of a natural resource only found in Lusatian myths: Gudsamite. The occupation of Namor and finding of Gudsamite subsequently turned the Holy Lusatian Empire into a powerful feudal monarchy, taking Namor's Mandate of Heaven as its "Destiny to civilize the world with Christian Culture".

1775 CE/2115 LMR/2435 SJD - A sudden Aigarian Revolution, supported by the Imperial Japanese Military stationed at Aigarion, emerged victorious when Governor Aigarion Dokusai surrendered to the marching Aigarion Continental Army. The Japanese Empire recognized the Republic of Aigarion as an independent nation, and totally retreat from Esquarium.

1788 CE/2128 LMR/2448 SJD - The September of 1788 Rebellion in the Forestian Isles ended in disaster. Thousands are massacred by forces of the Holy Lusatian Empire, and anyone found out to be associated with the Republican rebels were executed.

1800 CE/2140 LMR/2460 SJD - The Holy Lusatian Empire and the Republic of Aigarion established formal diplomatic relations and started an alliance.

1825 CE/2165 LMR/2485 SJD - Communism first shows up within the Holy Lusatian Empire.

1860 CE/2200 LMR/2520 SJD - Varanken's Uprising. The former lawyer, after the victorious Uprising, overthrown the ruling Dynasty and formally established the Holy Republic of Lusatia. Relations with Aigarion soured, however both nations remained neutral.

1881 CE/2221 LMR/2541 SJD - Lusatian Liberal Party Member, Adrian Alfredsson, bombed the Congress Building of the Holy Republic, killing a Congressman. The Party is subsequently labeled a Terrorist Organization, and all of its members marked as quislings for liquidation.

1911 CE/2251 LMR/2571 SJD - The Holy Republic of Lusatia descended into chaos with the assassination of President Samuel Varanken. The Warring States Period took place, and Lusatia became a burning battlefield. Aigarion, taking the chance, started selling weapons to Lusatian warlords.

1924 CE/2263 LMR/2583 SJD - The Republic of Aigarion entered the Great Depression. It would take years before Aigarion showed any sign of recovery from the Depression, and all arms deals with Lusatian warlords ceased.

1937 CE/2276 LMR/2596 SJD - Breulang Antelope, prominent Populist Lusatian warlord of Namo-Luziycan descent, united all of former Lusatia under the banner of his Christian Liberationist Party - a hybrid party promoting Communism which proclaimed as "a successor to a small faction within the former Christian Lusatian Party". He became Paramount Leader of the "Lumorian Federation" - the name Lumoria to ease any ethnic tensions among people of Luziycan (what Lusatians became known as), Namorese and Antelopian ethnicity. The Namorese calendar was revised and reused in the form of the Lumorian Federal Calendar.

1940 CE/2280 LMR/2600 SJD - Shōryū Takaragi, son of Aigarian Prime Minister Hakutora Takaragi, is born on July 10th; Hansel Antelope, fifth son of Paramount Leader and President Breulang Antelope, is born on December 5th.

1949 CE/2289 LMR/2609 SJD - Agata Antelope, Breulang's consort, is killed. Their children, Hansel Antelope and Agnessa Antelope, are sent/exiled to Aigarion as political hostages.

1950 CE/2290 LMR/2610 SJD - After Iglesiantis was conquered by the Federation and named Zone Number 4, the already sour relations between Aigarion and Lumor - the "legitimate successor state" of Namor and Lusatia - came to a boiling point. Aigarion, despite having not such a strong economy, possessed 70% of Esquarium's Gudsamite source, thus it applied economic and political pressure on Antelope's regime. The Republic of Aigarion, the Empire of Koyro and the Gaveoan Union - the latter two being the superpowers of Eastern Esquarium - blockaded Federal ports in an attempt to force negotiations. However, on August 10th, year 2290 of the Lumorian Calendar; the Aigarian War erupted. Prime Minister Hakutora Takarugi died on September 29th. On October 1st, 2290 LMR; the Republic capitulated, signifying Aigarion's status as a formal colony of the Lumorian Federation, renaming it "Zone Number 5" and its (surviving) citizens "Fives".

1957 CE/2297 LMR/2617 SJD - "Present day", the time the series takes place in.

A city bus, Suburban Hartly

Simon, sitting in his seat with his large backpack under the seat, thought of his wife and parents as he stared aimlessly outside the large window. Sighing, the middle-aged man, as his long grey hair slightly blew due to the draft caused by the driver opening the door, resigned himself to his fate. Pressing the stop request button, a red LED display in the front of the vehicle promptly lit up.

“STOP REQUESTED,” it read.

After the vehicle came to a stop, he slowly got out of his seat and walked over to the back door, triggering the automatic sensors that opened it. After hopping off the high-floor bus, one of the last existing in Ainin, he began walking down the road, carrying his large grey backpack and a black duffel bag. After a five minute stroll down William Adamson Boulevard, he looked towards the road as a lively city bus full of schoolchildren passed by.

The 474 Anderson/Queen BRT line.

From the moment he moved to Hartly from his family farm in the southern valleys of Jasper, he had always hated that bus. A sociopath, he has always such loud and joyful discussion. Today, he was going to put an end to it.

Looking at the dull 5-story Victorian building he was in front of, he opened the door and went in. It was the headquarters of the Hartly Transportation Board.

As soon as he entered the lobby, a secretary greeted him.

“Good morning, sir,” she said.

Giving a nod in response, he quickly took off his backpack, putting it on the floor. Opening it, he took out a semi-automatic rifle and, in a swift move, shot the secretary, 10 metres away, in the head with deadly accuracy.

The rest of the occupants of the lobby, panicked, now began to run, some towards the front door but most towards the stairs leading to the second floor. Shooting into the fleeing crowds, Simon, the ex-military sniper who had served on three tours during the Crisis of 1985, managed to hit seven other employees of the LTB, who laid lying on the floor, losing blood and groaning in pain. Walking around them, Simon shot each one twice in the back of the head, leaving no survivors, before walking towards the staircase, going up to the second floor. Arriving, he began shooting at the people hidden inside the rooms, whose walls facing the corridor were made of glass. After passing seven of these rooms and shooting their occupants, his rifle clicked as he ran out of ammunition.

Realising he forgot his magazines in his duffel bag in the lobby, he quickly ran down. Two traffic constables of the Hartly Police Department, pointing their sidearms at him, were already there.

“Drop the gun,” menacingly ordered the former.

Simon, ignoring the constable, dashed towards the bag, before falling to the ground, hit by two bullets in the back.

Running towards him, the first responders, along with a newly-arrived paramedic team, ran towards him, administering first aid before loading him into an ambulance guarded by submachine gun-wielding members of the Tactical Response Unit.

Seven minutes and twenty five seconds after the massacre began, it ended, leaving 15 dead and over 32 injured, in the worst shooting in Aininian history, by far surpassing the previous holder of this macabre record, the West Forestia Mall massacre of 1987, which left 5 dead and 21 injured, and caused the enactment of the Firearms, Bladed Weapons and Blunt Objects Control Act, also known by its popular nickname, the West Forestia Mall Act, one of the strictest gun control laws in Western Esquarium.

"Code Crush" the Anime - Scene 1 (Episode 1)

It started with the woods, the sunflowers, the skies, and the crickets. The sound of the crickets took over whatever other noises are around. Two boys climbed up a small slope, being watched by a figure in kimono. When they finished climbing, both boys gasped heavily. But they didn't have time to take in their breath.

The music started playing, with a melancholic war tune. The crickets began flying chaotically. The screen then showed a flower field, being overshadowed. A voice then narrated.

"2290 LMR, August 10th.

The Lumorian Federation declared war on Aigarion.
", the narration went, as dots could be seen surrounding a faraway mountain. A plane lowering altitude could then be seen.

It switched to the map of Esquarium. Arrows, from the direction of Namo-Luziyca to Aigarion, was displayed.

"The small country in Western Esquarium that had steadfastly maintained its neutrality and West Esquarium's newly emerged superpower, Lumoria; between them existed an ongoing diplomatic crisis that had resulted from the Lusatian Warring States Period and the resources of Aigarion.", the voice narrated while the screen shows pictures of war - submarines being blown up, fighters flying over civilian buildings, and soldiers making an amphibious landing on a beach.

A robotic machine then appeared.

"During the main battle, the Lumorian army used the Mobile Humanoid Combat Armored Infantry - Lightning Warrior - in combat for the first time. Their power was beyond anything ever imagined. The defense lines formed to protect Aigarion were breached, one after another.", the machines - the "Lightnings", deployed what seemed to be wheels, and dashed at tanks on the opposite side, easily neutralizing them.

"Aigarion became a dominion of the Federation. Its freedom, its rights, and even its name, was all stripped.", as the soldiers cornered civilians, some executed carcasses behind them; a city burning was shown; and then, a lone child crying in the midst of a fire. The flag of the Republic of Aigarion was flown, then suddenly, appearing on the flying flag, the Lumorian banner replaced the Aigarian colors.

The words in English appeared on the screen: Zone Number 5.

"Zone Number 5.

The defeated and once proud Republic of Aigarion was rechristened with a mere number.
"

The screen showed the ruins by the sea, during sunset. A building being burnt, with a military personnel overlooking said burning. One of the boys previously shown, residing with his backpack, sat on the remains of a building, with a truck appearing behind him. The sound of steps could be heard, and then...

"This...

Shōryū...

This...
"

The boy looked up.

"This Lumoria... will be obliterated!", the other boy declared, with the ruins in the background.

And thus began the tragedy of the fallen son to the Dictator.

"Code Crush" the Anime - (Episode 1) Scene 2

The opening music played, along with the title and the looks of several characters from the series...

CODE CRUSH
Hansel of the Revolution

The screen returned to the film, with the mountain previously shown now coated by the right-hand side with an armor piece of sorts. A bottom line in Japanese read: 7 years after the War (2297 LMR).

A group of buildings then appeared. Lumorian Residence -Eden Concession-

Ultimately, a VTOL flying, up in the skies, chasing after a container truck.

"This is Green-3! Target is moving from Delta-11 to Delta-13, moving at a speed of 80 kph!"

"CCP to all mobile units! Declaring BACON III from floor 5 through floor 2. All units, take 2-8-8. Leave the target intact!"

The trains shown subsequently passed a building's window. Inside the building, a TV screen was playing.

"This is the video of yesterday's terrorist attack in New Kui. 8 Lumorians and 51 slaves were horribly painted on in this incident..."

An alarm clock went off. An old man was shown, looking up to the other side.

"You're out of time. From here on, I'd like it to be one move every 20 seconds.", a voice said, as a middle-aged man with a goatee was shown, looking to his other side, presumably to the old man.

"Very well."

The old man looked to the voice of the middle-aged one. He was sweating, and as he looked again to the chess-board between them, the door behind him opened.

"Hmm? Your substitute arrived?", the middle-aged asked, while the old man looked behind.

"I'M SAVED! Are things okay at school?", the old man's voice could be heard, asking the entering shadowy figures - obscured by the light behind them.

"What's this? Students?", asked the middle-aged, with a bit of contempt.

The faces of the entering students were revealed. "Hmph? A Party Member, huh?"

"I envy the young. They have so much time on their hands... So much time for regrets... Your name?"

"Hansel Valrij."

"Whoa whoa! You can't win this no matter what you do, right?", inquired the other student, looking at the chessboard.

"Vincenz, in how many minutes should we leave here in order to make it for our next class?"

"Um... if we really haul ass, about 20 minutes."

"In that case, I'll ask you to drive safely on the way back."

"Huh?"

The middle-aged tapped his finger on the chessboard. The student - Hansel - continued speaking.

"I'll need 9 minutes. Owner, about yesterday's matter..."

"Understood. We'll discuss it.", the old man replied.

"9 minutes? You have 20 seconds per move.", the middle-aged said.

"More than enough.", Hansel responded.

Wolf's Winter Vacation

"Mother, you're finally agreeing to go somewhere for the winter holiday," said Allison Wolf, age 29 and turning 30, as the entire Wolf-Morlendeska family walked the streets of Wolf's hometown, in Sharlitston, East Namor, surrounded by secret service agents and other bodyguards.

Wolf laughed. "Feels nice to be back home. For five days."

"Hey, mom, can't you see? It's changed." Arthur Morlendeska, 30, piped as he pointed at the five-story buildings that have been built in and around the large populated town of 90,000 people. "We didn't have that when I was a child."

"Right, right." Wolf smiled. The last time she had stayed at Sharlitston for a long time was from NMR 2337 to NMR 2340, when she was working as an athletic trainer at Sharlitston High, after she retired from her athletic career and did not consider her political career, yet. After that, she moved to Mojing, where she was mayor during the ______ ________, Governor of East Namor, Speaker of the Central Council...

...and now, President-General. For over twenty years (two decades!) the President-General did not have much time to see how her hometown has changed the day she left it for Mojing. Wolf couldn't help smiling---she loved what she was doing, as Namor's Head of State and Government, but deep inside she felt stressed, and yearned for a day she can relax, without having to deal with rogues like Shjoraski, Thuman, Ohanka, and don't forget, the Chaisang Family of Orientalia.

Two decades of a stressful political career aged her. Gray hair was beginning to appear, and her skin was becoming a little wrinkly. Youth was slipping out of her, and she knew it. Returning to Sharlitston for the holidays was not going to bring back her youth, but at least she could feel it.

"So, Mrs. Ongting, [President-General in Namorese] where are we going to visit?" cooed Wolf's husband, James Morlendeska, who had been living with her in the Executive House since the day Wolf became President.

"Hmm...tough question." Wolf thought to herself. "How about the high school where I used to work in for three years? Surely they haven't forgotten me."

Sharlitston High was the only high school in the town of 90,000. It was three storys high, with over sixty rooms, including a gym, auditorium and a lecture hall. Since NMR 2340 it had contained around 2,000 students; now, around 4,000. When hearing that an International Master of Sports, a former athletic trainer and now one of the most powerful people in Esquarium has decided to pay a visit to her old school, staff immediately began preparing themselves for this historic encounter.

Happy Holidays from the Free Side of the Strait

To: wenlang23@outlook.com
From: Ven Ha (venha3213@outlook.com)
Subject: HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM THE FREE SIDE OF THE STRAIT

Hey Mom,

It's me again, e-mailing you from my unit in Roubao. I'm really sorry I couldn't come back during the holidays, I am wanted to stay here. They're really screwing it up on the other side of the Roubao Strait, signing that Triumvirate thing and putting the entire region a step closer to war. Everybody here is worried, worried that someday we might get all nuked and we'll all die. I really don't want to die, mom, I have a life to live. But I guess I'll have to follow my superior's orders, be brave and protect whoever I'm told to protect and destroy whoever they want me to destroy. Heavens, when will all this tension end.

But yeah. Things are going fine. Learned a few Cantonese phrases, enough for me to converse with a bunch of locals here. They kept talking about how they are home to Esquarium's best meat buns, and how the Unolians were trying to take over this island because they wanted to taste the meat buns, or something like that. The Roubanese say they want peace, while those on the other side of the strait spend most, if not all, of their time, calling us "social-imperialists." Us, imperialists? Impossible, what the hell are these people talking about.

I'm not supposed to reveal any information that would allow these Unolians take Roubao, but here's what I can tell you---we get up every day at 5.30, eat some Chinese food for breakfast (chicken noodle soup and, yes, meat buns), then we patrol the coast to make sure no defector or anything arrives ashore. So far, we haven't found any Jahistic guy climbing aboard the large ship that is the SS Roubao. Thankfully. I really don't want to see what these Unolians have brought with them in case they find their way here. Hopefully not a rope from one of their struggle sessions they use to hang people.

And the holidays? No, they don't celebrate them here. They celebrate New Year (Lunar), just like us, and that's pretty much it. They used to celebrate random stuff like the King's birthday, but since he was overthrown nobody had to care about him anymore.

I brought some souvenirs, too. Here's one of them.

Image
Haha, my holiday present to you. Love you, ma.

It's a free present, too, got it from a search engine (:P). The Unolian press released it a few days ago, hours before the Triumvirate was announced, a picture of that baby Jarrod Thuman trying to stare the hell out of us. It scared me a bit, just not enough to get the entire Namorese army out of Roubao. I personally think he needs to glare better. Better glares mean more executions, huh?

But yeah, sorry I couldn't come back during the holidays. I'll manage. Tell my bro I said hi, too.

Happy Holidays,
Ven Ha

Annual State of the Republic Address | NMR 2361
OOC: Assuming that this speech happened on the 1st Day of January

My fellow Namorese, members of the Central Council, people of the world:

Today, we enter a new year, not only for us, but for Esquarium and the world. When our People's Republic was first founded, our leaders have constantly said that new is good, that new means a fresh start, a beginning for the better, the abandonment of the old and the adoption of better ways of life, and better ways of thinking. This year, a new year, is no different. As President-General, I wish to begin this year on a positive note, and I also wish that the Namorese people will begin to crawl out of their caves and begin to see---and care about---the world around us.

Am I saying we are an isolationist state? Obviously not, we've been an open country since the Minjuha era. But since the Minjuha era, we've only cared for ourselves and looked after ourselves. We did not care more about the world than we do about ourselves.

What was the price we had to pay? Agents---from another country we didn't care about all along---attacking ambassadors from another country on our soil. Governments---of the unfree world---are beginning to orchestrate a plan to take over control and instill their flawed ideas, the ideas of tyranny and oligarchy, into the minds of the free. That is the price, these are the prices, we are willing to pay if we are willing to be ignorant of the world around us.

A few days ago, I've received several ambassadors from a few foreign countries, countries outside of Esquarium. They told me that, of all regions, Esquarium, especially Western Esquarium, was what they described as a powder keg. One stupid move, whether a leader made it, some random citizen of a random country made it, could lead to the keg to explode and chaos to follow. That is how they described Esquarium. Some have also told me that they saw Esquarium as a time bomb. As that clock ticks, tensions are worsening and leaders are spitting out threats, threats of a nuclear holocaust and threats of annexing other countries. Sooner or later, if we are ignorant, that bomb will explode, and what happens after that cannot even be comprehended by the human mind.

Over the past few decade, if we look back at what happened in Esquarium this past decade, we can see that clearly, what these people said are sadfully, yet truthfully, correct. The ignorance of the free countries of Esquarium has led to the formation of rogue alliances by rogue states, states that do not fit the bill of the stable peace-loving state.

What 'rogue alliances' are we talking about? What 'rogue states' are we talking about?

We are talking about the alliance that has recently formed by the Unolian regime led by Jarrod Thuman. Unolia has gone paranoid as ever---they are developing chemical and biological weapons, beefing up their military capacities in preparation for a war they know they will start. The rogue state of Unolia is calling for war on Roubao, a state which we have committed ourselves to defending, a state, who, like any sovereign state in the world, deserves to have its internal affairs respected. In addition, the rogue regime in Unolia has called for a 'revolution,' more like a counter-revolution, in an effort to put this entire world under the rule of mob rule, under the rule of the rifle, under the rule of tyranny, where basic human and civil rights are disrespected. Unolia is building up a large army to defy the voice of peace, while starving its own citizens at the same time.

We are talking about the alliance that has recently formed by the Everian regime led by Kato Vissari. We are talking about the country that lies in Eastern Esquarium, and, because it is located in Eastern Esquarium some of us would think it is a country we should not pay attention to, that the world should not pay attention to. When we talk of Everia, we talk of a state influenced by racial hatred, influenced by the flawed idea that the world has been created to be under their control. The Vissari regime is tricking its own people, using hatred and incitement to lead their people to a war no one wants to fight.

Last, but not least, we are talking about the alliance that has recently formed by the same country whose leader organized attacks on hundreds, if not thousands, of innocents---men, women, children, policemen, and ambassadors---in the heart of the Namorese Nation that warm summer day six years ago. Yes, my fellow Namorese, we are talking about the rogue state of Koyro and their rogue leader, Ohanka Jon Bak-su, whose regime sees nothing but bloodshed and destruction for the world. We are talking about a regime that does not go by what it promises, a regime which, while oppressing millions of its own citizens, is still willing to have the entire region subjugate to their vile words, the vile words of tyranny.

We are talking about these states. We are talking about states that constitute an Axis of Cruelty. States like these are taking advantage of the ignorance of us Namorese, the ignorance of Free Esquarium, so they can establish a new world order where all of us---me, you, everybody who's not like them---will have to be their slaves, their servants. States like these strive to destabilize the Esquarian region with their threats, their armies, and their refusal and opposition to peace. And to those who want to deny what I've said, can you explain, then, why they decided to join together and form an alliance? What other reason do they want to establish an alliance besides they want to have the world for themselves, so they can consolidate their power and ruin all of us? The Axis of Cruelty, my fellow Namorese, are the core perpetrators of our already destabilizing Esquarian region.

So what can we do to stop this threat, so we can maintain the status quo and at least make Esquarium a place where nobody has to die in the name of politics, in the name of the Hourglass, in the name of religion? There's only one way, and that is to not be ignorant. It is about time we opened up our eyes and see what kind of burden our allies are going through, with the Axis of Cruelty vexing their capabilities to manage their own affairs. We must call up all countries of the world who care, who care about peace, who care about freedom, who care about the preservation of basic human rights, to join together and tell the Axis of Cruelty: 'Hey, what you are doing is wrong. We need peace, not escalation, and you're giving Esquarium the latter, and that's not what Esquarium wants.'

My fellow Namorese, you do not understand how destructive a Third Great War can be. You do not understand the consequences of a war that the Axis of Cruelty, that evil may wage on us. You cannot comprehend the consequences, nor can I, because the consequences are too destructive, too large for the human mind to understand entirely. You can calculate or estimate how many will die in such a war, but you will not comprehend your estimations, because they will certainly be high. That number will certainly be high.

And if that happens, note that we won't be the only ones affected. The rest of the world will be affected. It doesn't matter if you're living in Suinula in Nevanmaa or Nebesa in Nebesina, whether you live in New Plignpolis in Roubao or Varanken in Kofeiya. If such consequences are to be unleashed on us, the impact will be felt around the world. Contamination, after all, knows not national boundaries.

Let us not let that happen. We are the Namorese Nation, and in the face of growing adversity we will not back down. We have faith in ourselves, we have faith in justice, we have faith in our allies. Let us unite together and work for a peaceful Esquarium, a stable Esquarium, whose millions and unborn trillions will enjoy the wonders of life without having to suffer the consequences of a war that can only be waged by the Axis of Cruelty and their outposts. Which outposts? I think we are all intelligent enough to know what I'm talking about here.

Peace be with you, and long live Namor!

Emergency Address to the Assembly of the People, by Jarrod Thuman

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia and it's Assembly. I usually do not make New Year's addresses towards the Assembly, as I would usually prefer our noble Assemblymen and women to stay home for the holidays. Our friends across the giant body of water to the south in Namor have issued a scathing condemnation of the Triumvirate and the People of the Great Unolian Republic. These condemnations, along with ones from other nations in the region are uncalled for and unprovoked. We have no evil intentions with this alliance of like minded people. The reason I have called you here today is so I can address the Representatives of the People and the International Community on these allegations.

I have here with me a board with Namorese allegations made by their President, Alicia Wolf. These allegations include a chemical weapon stash, a lower standard of living and repressive restriction on freedoms. I will now go in depth with these allegations, at least on Unolia's end. I do not wish to speak for the governments of Koyro and Everia because I am not a representative of those governments. I can, however, speak for the Triumvirate as an organization.

First off, we will deal with the most crucial and damning of these allegations. Wolf has claimed that we are producing or already in possession of chemical weapons. I wish Wolf would know that this isn't a playground and such accusations with no weight will not go unpunished. But I must place this under the "Citation Needed" category.

(Thuman places a blue sticker with white text reading "CITATION NEEDED" on the chemical Weapons section)

This is not a game, Wolf. You are like the child who reports her classmate for carrying a knife in school where you damn know that there is none. For this, I actually am requesting an apology from the President's office for all of the People of Unolia and the brave troops of the Jahistic Liberation Forces. Let this be known from my word: Unolia has no desire for chemical weapons, but we will not condemn nations who have them. I invite any weapon inspector to look up and down for chemical weapons, for they will not find nontraditional chemical weapons in our military nor civilian populace.

With regards to nuclear weapons, we openly admit to being armed with a very small number of nuclear warheads. We also have taken the responsible route and adopted a "No First Strike" policy. As the name of this policy claims, we will not attack with nuclear weapons until we are attacked with nuclear weapons. We are not children who view life as a disposable force in society that you can just terminate with the pressing of a button.

Can we move on to one sentence?

(Thuman picks up a piece of paper, presumed to be Wolf's address)

Unolia is starving it's own citizens, according to Wolf.

(Hushed chuckles break out)

Wolf has one large flaw in her logic: it is theoretically impossible for the Unolian State to starve it's citizens, since our involvement in the economy is limited at best. On top of that, I am happy to report that the average minimum wage for part time workers is up to 8.25 USD, up from 8.15 this time last year, according to the Ministry on the Economy. I dare the Namorese to show me where this starving is occuring, or issue yet another apology to the People.

So for this:

(Thuman stickers another "CITIATION NEEDED" needed to a claim on poverty)

Wolf is propagandizing this giant war that is set to break out. And this is true, we are beefing up our military. But go back to the roots of this: Namorese Social Imperialist aggression against the People of Roubao. The corrupt Social-Imperialist regime on Roubao are merely agents for the government of Namor, like the have been all along. We are doing them a favor by liberating them and bringing a better economy, so this accusation is actually true, but for the wrong reasons.

And now, we are stuck with Wolf saying we have no civil rights. This is coming from the executive of Namor, where your basic right to self defense is illegalized. The rich are punished for existing in the form of excessive taxation. Where a political Party cannot plausibly join an international organization just because it is on the right wing. Yes, Namor is free. Namor if free if you're on the left wing.

In Unolia, we have some flaws to our political system, but economically and socially, you can go anywhere. Did you know that out of ten major companies named by the Unolian Economist, five out of the ten are ran by people not identified with the Jahistic Party of Unolia? So, once more...

(Thuman sticks on yet another "CITATION NEEDED")

Lastly, I will now speak on behalf of the Triumvirate. President Alicia Wolf is nothing but a fear monger. She is no different than the person who uses a terrorist attack to invade an entire region for no other reason for oil.

This goes for all Liberal Democracies in the region: the Triumvirate has three goals. These goals consist on returning Roubao to it's rightful hands, mutual economic development and mutual military defense against organizations like WETO. We have no intentions of starting unprovoked wars with other sovereign nations.

All of these Social Liberal governments want to see us fall into poverty because they are ran by cruel governments with no sense of Esquarian unity and friendship. All of the other blocs in the region and their accusations against the Triumvirate can be summed up with two words: CITATION NEEDED.

And President Wolf, I think I speak the truth on behalf of Esquarium when I say that there are six words that can describe your standing amongst Esquarian leaders.

You are the weakest link. Goodbye.

Speech to the National State Council

Good evening, esteemed members of the National State Council, and to our fellow countrymen and women in our beloved Nation. A very happy new year to you all as well.

I want to begin this speech on a lighter note. A congratulations to the people of this nation. This year we have seen many improvements to our Fatherland and our way of life. Agricultural output is higher, our education system remains one of the best, and our armed forces continue to ensure the peace and order in our Fatherland.

We have also seen a transformation of our government and foreign policy. Removal of corrupt officials, who only cared for their own pockets and not for the well being of the Nation and people. Introduction of elections to balance between the will of the people while not sacrificing the interests and well being of the Nation. We also joined together with the respected nations of Unolia and Koyro in an alliance of common interests for mutual development and defense of our Nations.

I could not have done this if I did not have the support of the Volk, however. It is because of you that we are a more prosperous and powerful nation. For that, I extend my deepest gratitude for allowing me to be your leader and congratulations for helping to make the Fatherland what it is. A symbol of strength, unity, and peace for all.

But this year was not without its drawbacks. The President of Namor, Alicia Wolf, has issued her State of the Republic address. In it she condemns our Triumvirate and the respected leaders of it, The Honorable Thuman, The Honorable Ohanka and myself. She states that we constitute an "Axis of Cruelty" and that we are attempting to establish a "new world order" in Esquarium. My friends, this cannot be further from the truth. The Triumvirate was established between our three Nations to aid each other in mutual military defense and economic development between our nations, very much like WETO, OTO, and NOSDO. Why do they condemn us for doing what they have already done?

First: The Namorese President has also gone far enough to insult our Fatherland with western propaganda lies. She claims that we are a nation motivated by "racial hatred". What racial hatred, Mrs. Wolf? We are not motivated by racial hatred, but by the unity of love for the Fatherland shared by all Everians.

Second: "that the world has been created to be under their control." Where have we ever said that the world is to be under our control? Surely if we though all other nations in Esquarium are to be under our rule, then we should not have allied together with Koyro and Unolia. But we have done so, and that is because we do not view the world as ours to rule.

Thirdly: This I find most interesting. "The Vissari regime is tricking its own people, using hatred and incitement to lead their people to a war no one wants to fight." Again I ask, what war, Mrs. Wolf? I am sure I am speaking on behalf of the entire Triumvirate that we do not want war. War only leads to unnecessary bloodshed, broken families, and destroyed nations. We do not want war now or ever. Our Military is for the defense of our Fatherland, not for offensive imperialist purposes.

Mrs. Wolf, I do not want war. I am also sure that Respected Chairman Thuman and Honorable General Ohanka do not want war. So instead of blasting your senseless propaganda and threatening us, I invite you to place peaceful diplomacy first over aggressive imperialism. All we want is peace.

And with this I conclude my speech. I thank all members of the NSC for attending today and I wish you all, Volk of the Fatherland, a very good new years. May our Reich last for One-Thousand years.

Hail Everia!

His Preeminence Director-General Felixe Aron Spieccë-Sestierë's First New Year's Day Address To The Domains and Citizenry of the Confederated Free Cities and Departments of the Catalarguense Commonwealth

1 January, 2014 CE, Gregorian Calendar

[His Preeminence walks to the podium, standing before the combined members of the two Confederal Councils. The other members of the Confederal Directorate sit in booths at both sides of His Preeminence. His Preeminence presses his fist to his chest and bows slightly as his audience applauds. Still holding his fist to his chest in salute, he stands tall, turns around, and faces the Confederal Seal directly behind him, as does the rest of those present.]

[The band plays O, Sacred Fraternity.]

[The Confederal Anthem finishes. The audience takes their seats. His Preeminence adjusts his orange tie and begins to speak.]

"My fellow countrymen, my brethren in this Commonwealth's spirit of fraternity and liberty, it is on this New Year's Day of the year two-thousand and fourteen that I deliver to you my first New Year's Address since my ascension to the Confederal Directorate and the position of Director-General, of which I am the 107th. I would like to begin by assuring you all that this speech is not simply for those men and women seated before me in the Confederal Councils, it is not simply for those men and women seated next to me in the Confederal Directorate, it is not simply for my fellow members in government in the United Centrist and Federalist parties, nor is it even simply for all members in this democratic government, this ancient of democratic governments, which has stood since those brave sailors encountered this fertile, rich land in 1409, this proud reminder of democracy's heritage not simply in Cata Larga but indeed, throughout the world. This is a speech for all who enjoy and cherish freedom, for all who would give it all simply to make their opinion heard in the eyes of the public, for those who constitute the very foundation of a democratic government - that is, the people, those who may be watching this address live now, even those little citizens who cannot comprehend my words at their tender age but will become the fabric of this nation. I am but a pale speck in this democracy's history when held up to the light of the Catalarguense people who sustain and support this country and its tradition of democracy. And it is for your role in this country that I salute you!"

[His Preeminence pauses for applause.]

"Such is the role of the Catalarguense Commonwealth as a beacon for democracy. Ever since our ancestors united in confederation and formed the Catalarguense Company in 1431, our democracy endured for nearly six-hundred years, defiant to the currents of monarchy, despotism, and now, fascism, communism, and of course, those three newcomers to the repertoire of oppression, Norsefirism, Oshankaism, and Jahisticism. We have endured, much as the cliffs that dot our cobalt coastlines and white beaches, the fires of mortal concerns such as war, famine, disease, economic depression, and many, many other challenges which have swept through this region and brought upheaval so many times. And that is what makes me especially proud of our nation on this new year, two thousand and fourteen of the common era. Our lands, our people, and our government stood, stand, and will stand resolutely into the flames of tyranny in order to defend not simply our democracy, but democracy around this world I call home."

[His Preeminence pauses for applause. Faint yelp is heard from the rear due to a Citizenry Councilman spilling his coffee.]

"I am proud to carry this torch of democracy, which has burned for centuries, merely as the first among equals on this Confederal Directorate. Please, my fellow Directors, please stand."

[Directors stand. Some bow. Applause ensues. His Preeminence applauses as well. Directors take a seat, and applause ceases.]

"As part of this Confederal Directorate, only three-months tested, I am proud to say that we have already passed, with the cooperation of our partners in the Confederal Councils, legislation which will further strengthen this Commonwealth. Already, our students are enrolling in higher education programs in larger numbers than ever before."

[Some in the audience begin to applaud, but His Preeminence raises his hand to stop them. They promptly cease.]

"Cities such as Granadino, and the very city where we stand at this moment, Puerte-de-Liberete, are now centers of the arts, technology, and thought the world over. Our companies are penetrating deeper into the world economy, bringing more wealth and prosperity back home than ever before. And do you, my brethren, know why? It is because of this Confederal Directorate's policies. Our subsidies have enabled more adventurous, entrepreneurial spirit than ever before, and we are already seeing the rewards. Unemployment rates are now merely at 3%. Last year it was 7%. And the positive effects of such a boom in our economy, our grand economy, are not simply seen in official documents or statistics. Should you ever drive through the financial districts of Granadino, you'll see skyscrapers being built. If you walk down the main streets of my hometown, my birthplace, Sant-Martine, Aguestë, you'll find "Grand Opening" banners lining the streets. And this is along with the new burst of freedom which has occurred during our administration. Our people are more exposed to free and varying thoughts and opinions than ever before. Our people are more prepared to preserve our privileges and rights than ever before. Our people are more willing to foster an entrepreneurial spirit than ever before, a spirit that forms the core of this Commonwealth."

[His Preeminence pauses for applause. His Preeminence's countenance grows serious.]

"However, this burst of freedom, prosperity, and peace is tenuous. While we bask in our good fortunes, oppression continues elsewhere, even here, in this region, our homeland, Esquarium. While I would, of course, recommend a continuation of our current course if asked to speak on domestic politics, it is obvious that the democratic decision of the people, no matter whether it be supportive of or against my policies, is preferable to our ancient freedom being lost to the currents of tyranny which, unfortunately, run deeply through this region. Some among us may say that the preservation of our own freedom, and only our own, must come first, or even that it must be our only matter of business. While I do respect these people's opinions, it is my opinion - and I trust the opinion of the Confederal Directorate - that the security of our own freedom relies on the security of the freedom of others abroad. How shall we expect to survive if we are assaulted on all fronts by the hordes of dictation? How can freedom exist in a world where all that is known is tyranny and fear? I say, unfortunately yet realistically, my brethren, that it cannot. Fires which are not put out will bigger burn. Democracy as we know it is a fragile thing, a thing which requires us all to defend it. Shall we fall to the sorry state of the State of Roubao - yes, the State of Roubao - where we live in fear of massacre and tyranny daily? Forbid it! I shall make this clear now - We must defend the principles of freedom abroad, or else our own freedom will be lost. The so-called "Triumvirate" of Unolia, Koyro, and Everia are the greatest threat to not simply peace, but the very ideals of freedom and democracy in Esquarium, and a threat which cannot be tolerated not simply in the free world, but the civilized world. Shall we stand idly by as millions - indeed, billions - live in fear and under the shackles of oppression? As the carrier of the torch of freedom for centuries, we cannot be selfish. It is not our way. It is not the civilized way. We must use it to usher in freedom across this country, across this region, and across this world."

[His Preeminence pauses for rousing applause.]

"Thank you, and may our good fortunes continue. As per my authority as the Director-General of the Catalarguense Commonwealth, I hereby end this - my first - New Year's Day Address."

[The band reprises O, Sacred Fraternity. All stand and face the Confederal Seal, and salute. Once the anthem finishes, His Preeminence walks off the stage, straightening his suit and tie. The members of the Confederal Directorate file out of their booths. Members of the Confederal Councils begin to file out of their rows. Band plays a patriotic song in the meantime.]

Thuman Residence

"Get him out of the room!" Grace Aliah-Thuman shouted at the hired servants to get baby Jonathan Thuman out of the room as soon as possible. If you turned the other way, you saw several doctors treating the thirty-eight year old leader of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia. Jarrod Thuman was suffering from another unbearable cough attack, but this time he was coughing up blood in profuse amounts.

"How long have you been doing this?"

Thuman signaled that he had been coughing up blood for around three months at this point.

"Bloody idiot," the doctor thought, "tuberculosis has a vaccine and you could've got it."

Thuman couldn't even speak as the doctors tried anything to keep the leader of an ideology and a people alive. But there was nothing that they could possibly do. Thuman breathed his last that day, but it wasn't the tuberculosis itself that killed him, he ended up choking on his own blood. Grace could hear the last painful gasps and gurgles as the leader faded away.

She had a panic attack and confined to the guest bedroom. Her husband, the one and only love of his life, was dead. Not Chairman, Marshal or President Thuman. Jarrod Thuman, who the world reviled as a leader but she knew was a loving husband, was dead. Leaving behind her and two children.

Two hours later, she was venting to a doctor.

"They couldn't had known that he was a great human being. They reviled and condemned him as a dictator but I wish they knew Jarrod Thuman. I wish they knew the good he done for us and the blessing he was for me! People in that Godforsaken island down south will never know the loving man he was and they will dance in the street!"

Her wails could've been heard as the night went on.

8:00, the next day.

On the Firebrand News Network's morning show, at eight o'clock exactly, it went directly to a simulcast with all other news channels. In the press room of the Assembly of the People, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Jahistic Party of Unolia was gathered, with Weng Duhan in the front at the microphone. They all had black armbands on.

"People of Unolia and all Revolutionaries world wide," Weng began, "it is our unfortunate duty to report that the Chairman of the National Committee of the Jahistic Party of Unolia, the Chairman of the Jahistic Defense Commission, the President of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia, and the Chairman of the Great Triumvirate Alliance, Jarrod Thuman, has passed on at the young age of thirty-eight from complications of a sort of infection."

Camera flashes shuttered rapidly as Weng continued.

"Jarrod Thuman was hailed a Great Revolutionary who did everything he could to improve the lives of the Jahistic Republic and the Jahistic movement. He led our people from the chains of Monarchic rule and into the future. He was a positive person and it is my honor to say that I worked close with him.

The Standing Committee will be ruling by committee in the interim until the Party can gather for a meeting to determine where we should go from here. We are currently planning a period of mourning and we will respect his wishes to be cremated in the long run. All flags will be flown as half staff, with the exception of the Pan-Esquarian flag. The Standing Committee has declared a thirty day State of Emergency nationwide and the Jahistic Liberation Forces Military Police will be playing an active role.

We are all in mourning, but we must be sensible in our mourning. The Chairman would've wanted calm and peace. Now I will push it onto the Premier, Andrea Tugstein."

Andrea Tugstein, visibly shaken, gets up to the podium.

"I am just here to say that in the light of the developments, I intend on dissolving the Assembly of the People and opening elections once mourning is over. It is a shame that we were only able to get two out of five years completed of our terms, but we feel it is a respectful and sensible thing to do in this situation."

The press conference ended and the news cut to a clip of a military band playing the Jahistic version of "The Internationale".

Aininian Broadcasting Corporation Channel One, 8:02am
Over 400,000 Aininians were tuned in to a rerun of the sitcom Flight 298 in the morning, as the scene played out in a plane.

"No, sir, I'm sorry, you cannot," said the air stewardess. "That's for first class passengers only."
"You don't care about the welfare of your economy-class passengers?," replied the main character in an inquisitional tone.
"Not really," replied the stewardess after pondering.

Canned laughter is played, just as the screen abruptly turns black, then white, and then into static, over the course of two seconds, before the ABC News Intro plays, with the label "BREAKING NEWS" replacing the usual "ABC NEWS".

"We interrupt current programming to bring you the news that Unolian President and Jahistic Party Chairman Jarrod Thuman... has died of complications due to, uh, an infection," solemnly said the familiar face of Peter Sinclair, ABC News anchor. "He was 38 years old."

Footage from the news conference was played on a screen behind Peter.

"We will have more on this developing story at 8:30. We return you to your regular programming."

Parliament Square, Forestia - Thirty Minutes Later
It was a cool December evening in Forestia, as the breeze passed through the palm trees, slightly swaying them. A small crowd, mostly dressed in light fall windcheaters, had gathered on the beige flagstone pavement of Parliament Square, which was shadowed by the neomodern glass-paned Parliament Building, proudly sitting on its hilltop, behind a row of gently waving provincial flags and a towering flagpole on which flew the Aininian tricolour, the imposing size of the cloth blocking the rising sun from parts of the square.

The crowds grew over the next few minutes, until they numbered 50, and began loudly singing over the sound of a speaker brought by one of the members of the gathering.

"Ding dong, the witch is dead!," sung the crowds as the music followed along.

"Which old witch? The wicked witch!"

"Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead!"

Repeating the chorus over and over, and with several bystanders joining, the crowd eventually grew to over 200 by 9am, and then to almost 1,000 by 9:30.

One block away from the Square - 9:30am
Twenty black vans and over fifty police cruisers of the Forestia Metropolitan Police Department were waiting around the square, ready to intervene if the protest turned violent.

As more and more demonstrators turned up, the on-site commander looked exasperated as he turned around to his second-in-command.

"Tell the Gendarmerie to get some armoured vehicles here."

The Lo Ba Bai
New Plignpolis, State of Roubao
"Damn, it's finally the weekend." Chao Hwa, a 15 year-old living with his family in an apartment in downtown New Plignpolis, Roubao, said as he changed his clothes, took a shower and prepared his breakfast. The rest of the family was asleep---it was eight in the morning; usually, during weekdays the entire family would wake up real early, around five in the morning, to prepare to go off to school or for work. Five days of less sleep sure took a toll on the Chaos.

He reached for the cabinet and got out his favorite cereal, the one called Rice Krispes in English. He dumped the cereal on a small, white bowl, then filled it with milk, and shoved the bowl into the microwave and let it heat for thirty seconds. As it was heating, Chao then got some dinner rolls and ate them. The sun's radiance penetrated through the apartment window. Squinting his eyes, Chao couldn't help but enjoy the cityscape of Roubao's most crowded metropolitan area. It had rained the past few days, and suddenly the sun was shining once again. Surely this meant something, he thought to himself. Eh, might as well turn on the TV. I'm bored as fuck.

Chao slumped on his couch, cereal bowl on his right hand and the dinner roll on his left. Realizing that he had no hands left to turn on the TV via the remote, Chao then carefully placed the cereal bowl on the coffee table. Then, he reached for the TV remote and hit on. On his TV screen appeared RNI Morning News at Eight. RNI was the most popular television network in the Roubanese Territories, its popularity rivaled only by the UBC. But Chao preferred RNI particularly because it was focused more towards a Roubanese audience. And it was mostly in Cantonese, too, if not all of the time.

The middle-aged news anchor cleared his throat, and began the story that would shock Chao out of his socks. Next to the news anchor was a picture of the "Lo Ba Bai," Jarrod Thuman, the madman of Unolia. Behind Thuman's grim portrait was a waving Unolian flag. Chao rolled his eyes. Almost every headline story in Roubanese media had the words "Unolia," "Jarrod Thuman" or "Jahistic" on it. After all, it was Unolia that wanted to take over Roubao so it may take hold of its resources. Capitalism is useless if there are no raw materials, anyway. Ditto goes with any economic ideology.

The Unolian government has declared that their supreme leader, Jarrod Thuman, has died from a rare form of coughing disease. This announcement was brought to the Unolian public and the world by state media, with Thuman's right-hand man, General Weng Duhan, proclaiming his death, and Premier Andrea Tugstein declaring the start of future elections in Unolia to decide the country's new leader, and leadership. We now bring you a footage from Unolian state media and the statements of the two leaders.

The screen then showed a raw footage taken from the Unolian state telvision, the FNN (Firebrand News Network), showing every member of the Jahistic Party leadership wearing black armbands. In the center stood Weng Duhan, and next to him Premier Tugstein.

"People of Unolia and all Revolutionaries worldwide, it is our unfortunate duty to report that the Chairman of the National Committee of the Jahistic Party of Unolia, the Chairman of the Jahistic Defense Commission, the President of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia, and the Chairman of the Great Triumvirate Alliance, Jarrod Thuman, has passed on at the young age of thirty-eight from complications of a sort of infection."

Chao stared at the screen, then blinked his eyes. I must be dreaming, thought he. Jarrod Thuman? Dead? He knew from some current events geeks that the Unolian dictator's health hadn't been all that top-notch, but with everyone on the other side of the strait shouting "Long live Jarrod Thuman" this and "Long live Jarrod Thuman" that like robots, he thought that if Thuman was to die young, at least he would live for another thirty years or so.

Before he could openly react, Tugstein appeared on the screen.

"I am just here to say that in the light of the developments, I intend on dissolving the Assembly of the People and opening elections once mourning is over. It is a shame that we were only able to get two out of five years completed of our terms, but we feel it is a respectful and sensible thing to do in this situation."

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" a loud voice came from the bedroom, and out came Chao's father. "What the hell is this..." he reads the news ticker, then his mouth dropped. "He's...he's...DEAD?!"

"Who, the Lo Ba Bai? Oh yeah, even the Unolians said so." Chao pointed at Tugstein, who had just completed her speech. "See?"

"Holy...fucking...shit. This...omigod!" the father re-entered the bedroom and woke everyone else up. "People! Thuman's dead, good morning!"

Chao turned his head back towards the TV screen. Now, he no longer saw the Unolian leaders, but the picture of a serious-faced Prime Minister Tung Shau addressing the Roubanese populace.

"The death of Jarrod Thuman means that the Unolian leadership will face further more instability and the situation will most likely deteriorate, and such is detrimental towards the security and independence of the Roubanese State. I am calling for emergency measures to increase Roubanese monitoring of the Strait, to make sure none of that instability spreads here."

Chao looked out the window. Roubao was going to be a night club throughout the day. Sure, the headline news will still have the words "Unolia" and "Jahistic" on them, but two words, at least, will no longer be as apparent.

Roubao, not Ruobao. Frickin' Jahistics don't get it right, don't they?

The messenger of the values of a better and just world, Jarrod Thuman has expired

Image
Jarrod Thuman, the savior of the Unolian people has
entered heaven at the age of 38

CITY OF UNOLIA, UNOLIA - Today, at the age of 38, Jarrod Thuman has departed this sacred Earth and ascends to sit besides Jesus Christ as God's right hand man. Born on November 9th, 1984, he fought to give the people God's righteous gift: liberty. He led the Yellow Army in the Civil War, and with his hard work and some help by the freest nation in Esquarium, he sent the monarch of Unolia to Roubao, where the illegitimate King ruled as a monarch-in-name before it became a Namorese neocolony. Thuman then began the progress to make Unolia a modern capitalist nation, and in these eighteen years, he did God's work of spreading liberty and modernizing Unolia.

With the Jahistic ideology and Christianity on his side, he sought to create a Libertarian State. Despite our support for Nathan Daniels, we allowed the will of the people of Unolia to determine the change of chapter of history, and they decided on Thuman to lead their country to liberty, capitalism and democracy. He had the appeal of a pop star, the influence of Jesus Christ, and the power of Admiral Jeuves. The early years were a dictatorship, but they were necessary to liberate the Unolians from collapsing back into the communist dictatorship they had endured since time immemorial. In 18 years, they have gone from a third-world country to one of the most developed nations in the region, in what took us centuries to achieve. Unolia is the ultimate proof that capitalism, democracy and liberty work together, and it is all thanks to Jarrod Thuman, who is justly seen by many as a messenger of the global aspects of a better and just world.

Weng Duhan, rumored successor by many people interested in Jahisticism presided over the announcement of the death of this great messenger as he said, "People of Unolia and all Revolutionaries world wide, it is our unfortunate duty to report that the Chairman of the National Committee of the Jahistic Party of Unolia, the Chairman of the Jahistic Defense Commission, the President of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia, and the Chairman of the Great Triumvirate Alliance, Jarrod Thuman, has passed on at the young age of thirty-eight from complications of a sort of infection. Jarrod Thuman was hailed a Great Revolutionary who did everything he could to improve the lives of the Jahistic Republic and the Jahistic movement.

Andrea then proceeded to say these succinct words, "I am just here to say that in the light of the developments, I intend on dissolving the Assembly of the People and opening elections once mourning is over. It is a shame that we were only able to get two out of five years completed of our terms, but we feel it is a respectful and sensible thing to do in this situation."

Insiders suggest that the recent severing of ties with Luziyca was not done on Thuman's orders, due to the fact that he likely had been suffering tuberculosis for the past few months, and that either Weng Duhan or Andrea Tugstein done the severing of ties when they joined the Triumvirate.

President Breuvi Shjoraski said that "Jarrod Thuman was a good friend of the people of Luziyca, and that I plan to attend his funeral." Sera Svensson, leader of the Opposition has also said, "I may not support their ideology, but it is difficult to imagine that in 18 years, Unolia had improved significantly in all achievements of life. It is sad that he had to die." So far, those two, plus Vonora Khendalor, leader of the Christian Luziycan Party, Arnold Khosedov of the National Luziycan Party, and Stephan V, Bishop of Bethlehem and Pope of the Lutheran Catholic Church are going to attend his funeral.

There are already calls at St. Anthony's Basilica in Bethlehem demanding that Jarrod Thuman be beatified ahead of the five year wait, and Stephan V has announced that he will be allowed to bypass the five year wait, meaning that he will likely be beatified sometime in 2014. If Thuman gets canonized, he will become Patron Saint of Unolia, one of the more recent patron saints.

However, no matter if he gets forgotten by the Church, everyone knows that he has ascended to heaven, and now watches over the affairs of Earth, hoping that a person in Koyro, or Everia will rise up and install a Jahistic regime, so those nations will become free and democratic under the Jahistic model of governance. He now sits upon the right hand of God, and it is possible that Jarrod Thuman may actually be a reincarnation of Jesus himself.

How TVL covered the death of Thuman...

Postby Lyonsland » Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:10 am

11/01/2014 - 8:04am
TVL1 was, ironically, broadcasting a special report at the time, but it was not about the death of Jarrod Thuman. It was relating to the massacre at a child's birthday party.

George Foster, interviewing a nurse at the nearby hospital - Can you confirm the toll of deaths, Mrs. Daley?
Nurse Daley - Not right now, but at this point we have 14 deaths from the massacre.
George Foster - That's awful! I wish you and your team the best of lu-
Cecilia Hurt, George's co-anchor who is at the main newsroom - I hate to interrupt you there George but we are getting some big news coming from Unolia, that the leader of Unolia, Mr. Jarrod Thuman, has died. We... we are now going to simulcast one of their news networks as you can see they are currently playing the national anthem. Well, at least I think that's what it is! I am now getting word in from my producer that we are going to replay the announcement...

"People of Unolia and all Revolutionaries world wide, it is our unfortunate duty to report that the Chairman of the National Committee of the Jahistic Party of Unolia, the Chairman of the Jahistic Defense Commission, the President of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia, and the Chairman of the Great Triumvirate Alliance, Jarrod Thuman, has passed on at the young age of thirty-eight from complications of a sort of infection.

Jarrod Thuman was hailed a Great Revolutionary who did everything he could to improve the lives of the Jahistic Republic and the Jahistic movement. He led our people from the chains of Monarchic rule and into the future. He was a positive person and it is my honor to say that I worked close with him."

*cuts back to studio*
Cecilia Hurt - I think it's time to read some tweets!
@harry_storen says: "All of this news about massacres and major deaths is giving me a headache. Stahp!"
@UnolianEmbassyLY says: "We at the Unolian embassy in Ettsten would like to announce our deep sadness at the death of Chairman Jarrod Thuman's death. He shall rest in peace."
And finally, @NOTRalphHerkins says: DING DONG THE WICKED WIZARD IS DEADDDDDD! #shitunolia #byebyethuman #fuckthetriumvirate
Later, at 2:25pm on TVL 24, an apology was made after the hoax tweet was read out live on air:

Jack Foltry, another newscaster
We at TVL would like to apologize to you and the people hurt by the tweet we unfortunately read out live on air at around five past eight this morning. It was concerning the death of Jarrod Thuman, where one of our anchor's became the victim of a hoax account pretending to be President Ralph Herkins. We never intended the tweet to be hurtful and explicit. We are sorry.

RTPLN News Channel, 08:06
RTPLN was broadcasting an obituary for the late Jarrod Thuman, with literally tens of Unolian ex-pats and other Jahistic residents of New Waterford holding back tears as they watched.

"...regardless of his politics or actions, we can all agree that Jarrod Thuman was an inspiration for many and will surely be missed," the voice-over finished with grave, solemn intonation. The picture faded to a portrait of Thuman with the caption 'Jarrod Thurman: 1978-2014' appearing in a white, serifed font below the late Unolian president's beaming countenance.

The channel then cut to the studio, with the young, fair-haired newsreader in the centre giving the camera a cold, blank stare for a few seconds before he realised he was live; he quickly sat up and sorted the stack of notes on the desk in front of him.

"That was in memory of Jarrod Thuman, who died on Saturday," he said, visibly embarrassed, "now, let's look at how the media across Esquarium has reacted to his passing."

As a self-proclaimed unbiased network, RTPLN liked to have a look at newspaper articles and online news pages on certain topics from across Esquarium and compare each one's portrayal of the events; it was a subtle way of saying, "Oh, look at the way they've used emotive language there! They're so biased! Ha-ha!"

The newsreader first picked up a copy of the New Waterfordian libertarian newspaper The Daily Messenger, and held the front cover up to the camera. The headline read 'TOO GOOD FOR THIS SINFUL EARTH' and had a photograph of the deceased in black-and-white, with the sub-caption 'Goodnight, Sweet Prince' underneath. The newsreader's eyelid twitched.

"Well," he said, his voice trembling, "The Daily Messenger seems to portray Mr Thuman in a positive light." He tried to stay calm and took another newspaper, the outspoken right-wing Kilschämus Gazette. It only had the headline 'A GREAT MAN' underlined across the whole page, with no other text apart from "See Page 2 for details" in small letters. The newsreader became more frustrated, and clenched his fist off-camera.

"Um, let me see if I can find a foreign newspaper," he quivered, trying in vain to conceal his anger, as well as hoping for a newspaper that didn't call for Mr Thuman to be made a saint or anything. Unfortunately, the newspaper at the top of the pile happened to be The Constitution.

The ensuing torrent of unrestrained rage and very strong profanities was audible from the lobby of the studio building. The newsreader's scarlet visage, soaked in a blanket of sweat, burned more brightly than his crimson tie, as he lamented The Constitution's comparison of Thuman with Jesus Christ - and compared him instead to something far more obscene which lay inside his trousers.

Sample Propaganda Slogans on Big Character Posters:

HOLD HIGH THE REVOLUTIONARY BANNER OF MARXISM-LENINISM, BUT HOLD HIGH THE CAPITALIST BANNER OF JARROD THUMAN!

ALL AROUND THE WORLD, WE MUST SING THE SONGS OF THE STORY OF OUR REVOLUTION!

WILL YOU GIVE ALL YOU CAN GIVE FOR THE BANNER OF JARROD THUMAN THOUGHT?

WE SUPPORT OUR MARXIST-LENINIST BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THEIR OWN STRUGGLE FOR THEIR OWN FREEDOM!

LET US ALL BAN BEHIND THE PARTY IN OUR DAYS OF MOURNING!

MARXIST-LENINISTS AND THUMANISTS DIFFER IDEOLOGICALLY, BUT WE ARE UNITED BY REVOLUTION

A sunrise appears and you see the flag of the Kingdom of Unolia (now serving as the flag of present-day Roubao) fluttering in the wind and pompous music playing in the background. The streets are deserted outside, with the exception of some lone cars driving down. It looks like Pyongyang on a good day.

"On February 28th, we remember our forefathers from years ago." a narrator claims in Mandarin.

A little girl carrying bread and newspapers is seen with her older sister, looking at ceremonial Calvary soldiers walking past them.

"We remember a girl who helped sparked the Revolution, and who died at the merciless hands of the Old Unolian mooks. We remember the battle."

The girl is seen rallying behind a red and black Anarcho-Communist flag and vandalizing a statue of prior Unolian Kings with spray paint.

"Before there was the Father of the Revolution, the Great Jarrod Thuman, there was the mother of the Revolution."

A female voice is overheard: "I will run until I can finish this race. I will run wild for 10, 20 or 30 years to improve the living standards of the people. I will be willing to die."

"See the marvel. See the revolutionary. See the battle that slapped the face of the Monarchists. See... Anna.

Anna, coming to a theatre close to you in a month."

The Mad Otekite is Dead
0130 hours
Near the Luziycan border
Txotai, Namor

"There it goes. Finish Line is there, approaching," barked a Namorese Special Operations Unit (N-SOU) operative over the radio. "Prepare, prepare."

Around 45 N-SOU members were hiding in the bushes or within the dark woods as a van---a white van---rode along a two-lane road only half a kilometer away from the Interregional Boundary with Luziyca. The hilly terrain of Txotai offered a hole that poked through the most secure border in Western Esquarium. This "hole" allowed Otekian militants to slip to and from Namor, where they were pursued by Namorese authorities.

The N-SOU operatives were collaborating with the KGB to stop these militants from smuggling weapons from Luziyca, which is used to aim their cause in winning back the Otekian homeland. They've received reports that a van owned by militants was taking the long road to Luziyca, and were ready to intercept it.

"Confirm the license plate, is it there?" another operative radioed back.

The first operative waved over his aide. "Do you have binoculars, night vision goggles? He wants us to pin down the right man."

The aide scanned the van.

"Quick!" hissed the agent.

"Um..there is no plate!" the aide hissed back.

That's it, thought the operative as he prepared to radio back the others. We are looking for that van with no license plate.

"No plate, Finish Line has no plate!" the operative pressed the TALK button on his walkie-talkie. "Awaiting orders, over."

The sky was dark. It was night, around 0130 hours. The van neared closer and closer.

"Okay," the operative received an order. "This is out plan. We are going to fire at the tires. Then we lunge forward at 'em. All of this will be done at my discretion, at the count of three. Do you guys read me?"

"We ready you, over and out."

The van was only a few meters away.

"Three...two..one...ACTION!"

The N-SOU agents pulled the triggers of their sub-machine guns.

Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat... Quickly, all four tires were shot flat, and the van came to an abrupt stop. Realizing that something had gone terribly wrong, the people inside the van quickly rushed out. There were nine of them---all of them wore green army-like camouflage coats and heavy boots. Some of them had masks on their faces. These people were obviously militants, as soon as they got out, the N-SOU agents hopped out from nowhere. One of them hollered through a megaphone, in Luziycan---

"We are the Namorese Special Operations Unit! You have been surrounded; lay down your arms!"

The militants took off. Three out of the nine hopped back in the van. The remaining six began firing their pistols at the direction of the Namorese. The resistance was immense, and the Namorese couldn't advance, as they could not afford to suffer a single casualty. What now?

"We're under fire!" shouted one agent. "What should we do?"

"Bring out the flame, now, now!" was the reply, implying that the flamethrowers should be used against the militants.

Quickly, one agent holding a flamethrower jumped at the militants, and flung eight to nine fireballs at the six militants who were still firing like crazy. With a painful yell, three of the six fell as their bodies caught fire.

"Shoot them, now!"

The rest of the operatives now retaliated, sub-machine gunning the others three militants who haven't burned. One by one they collapsed head-first int ot the ground, and some of the agents could see the warm blood spilling on the cold, hard Txotai soil.

"All dead, all fallen?" Radio conversation was in full swing.

"Guess so. Hey, I think there's still some in the damn van."

They surrounded the van. Fearing assault from whoever was inside, they waited and pointed their guns at the vehicle.

Bang.

The sudden sound of a gunshot from inside the van startled the agents. Who had fired it? Why did they do it?

Answering their question came out two militants. One of them was dressed in the same green coat, while the other wore an Amnesty International T-shirt. Both had their hands in the air, ready to forfeit to the Namorese.

"Fucking psychopath," sneered one of the agents at the man with the T-shirt on, in Namorese, "You think that bitch logo with a candle surrounded by barbered wire means we can't kill you?"

The man responded in Luziycan, thus the interpreter had to intervene.

"He says there's someone else inside the van, but he's dead," the N-SOU interpreter spoke with the team captain.

The captain figured out that the person inside had probably been the one who shot himself, dead. "Well, tell them to drag the body out!"

"Hej! You! Drag body out!" the interpreter shouted at the two militants in broken Luziycan. "You play joke, we shoot! You see gun?"

The militants nodded in comprehension, re-entered the van and dragged a body out for the agents to see.

"Grazie," nodded the captain, using the only Luziycan word he's been instructed to know before switching back to Namorese. "Let go of the body, we want to examine it."

"Let go, body! We want see!"

The militants let go and were immediately handcuffed by the Namorese as the captain examined the dead man. A red splotch colored his forehead; his eyes were closed; and he was no longer breathing. He was dead. He had a beard, as if he had never shaven in decades. There was one de-activated grenade and a loaded pistol on his right hand.

The captain smiled, as he realized that he was Breuvi Chikmurdof, the mad Otekite that the government of the People's Republic of Namor had wanted dead for so long.

P-R-N, P-R-N!
Freedom Square, Kusef, Txotai, Namor

Image
One of the many posters seen during the celebrations over Chikmurdof's death

"Chikmurdof's dead! Chikmurdof's dead! Take that, Otekians! Take that, O-teh-kit-ees! Take that, terrorists! Take that, take that!" the singing and chanting of thousands of people rallying in Freedom Square, the largest public square in Kusef as well as the rest of Txotai, can be heard from blocks away. Thousands of people have gathered down at the square, despite the dangerously low temperatures that have hit the far northwestern region of the People's Republic of Namor over the fast few weeks. Weather was not going to stop these people from waving their Namorese and Txotai regional flags, celebrating the death of Namor's most wanted man.

Just a few hours ago, many people were huddled in their houses and staring at the TV, bored until suddenly regular programming on Namorese Radio-Television (PTH) was interrupted by a live press conference by the Ministry of Public Security. There was the Security Minister, speaking the words which shocked and excited many:

"We have confirmed that Breuvi Chikmurdof, leader of the Knights of Saint Luther terrorist organization, has been captured by members of the Namorese Special Operations Unit, and he has been found dead."

Almost nobody cared to watch the rest of the press conference, because all what matters was that Chikmurdof---the number-one enemy of the Kannei Namorese majority in Txotai---was not going to harm them ever again for eternity.

The celebrations only grew. Fearing that it may lead to violence against who-knows-who, the Armed Police was sent to surround Freedom Square, ordering that the celebrators restrict their activities to within the square and nowhere outside of it. "Back off, back off!" one of the Armed Policemen hollered at the celebrators through a loudspeaker. "Celebrate all you like, just, don't...don't get too far!"

Meanwhile, on the other side of Freedom Square, Gena Damir, a 23 year-old Otekian, was walking down the street, glancing at the spectacle. Thinking that it was interesting, he threw out his iPhone and began recording it. After around 45 seconds of recording the celebrations, he posted them on Boke, and typed a summary: "Just look at the celebrations at #FreedomSquare! They're really--"

"HEY!" one of the celebrators suddenly noticed Damir. "You see him? He's an Otekian, a terrorist!"

Four other celebrators joined in. "Oh yeah, I know him!" somebody exclaimed. "He is one of these scum who thinks that 'holy war' and 'killing all the Namorese' is a good idea! C'mon, let's fuck him up before he does the same to us! See that camera? He must be uploading the video to the CIA!"

The five people charged at Damir. Damir looked at them, and, realizing that something was going terribly wrong, began to ran off.

"Don't, don't let him go!" the head of the hooligans shouted. "Let's get on with it! Get him, now!"

Eventually, Damir only ran a few feet before the group of celebrators (with drunk looks) grabbed his hair, tugged his head back and brought him down to his back. Then, someone pressed his foot on his stomach, while somebody else slapped his face back and forth. As they did, they began to sing: "Luzzies, luzzies, go to hell.."

"I'm not a Luzzy! I'm...I'm just---" Damir couldn't find the right words to say.

"Just a Luzzy, I presume?" another voice from the hooligans interrupted him before a slap was felt on Damir's face. Again. Blood was showing on his cheeks.

"Hey, you!"

It was the voice of an Armed Policeman leading a group of ten policemen, rushing towards the scene where the assault was just beginning. The Armed Policeman blew his whistle, warning the celebrators to back off. One of the policemen managed to shove two celebrators out and pull Damir---anguished, injured and half-conscious---away to safety. Then, celebrators and police confronted each other.

"What do you think you are doing, helping that Luzzy Otekite back to his feet?" one of the celebrators hollered at the policemen. "I thought you were Namorese!"

"So what?" was the reply from the policemen. "He's Namorese, too! How can you assault a fellow citizen of our nation?"

"You're a traitor! A bitch traitor!" the celebrator fired back. "He's one of the many assholes who work for that ChikMURDERof dude, and now he's dead we might as well take care of his subordinates, together! Don't you agree?"

He couldn't continue, as after he pronounced the last word in the Namorese the policeman swiped his truncheon across his face. The celebrator collapsed head-first, startling the other celebrators, who backed off. They soon came to their senses, realizing that the policemen had come to put things under control. Meanwhile, the policeman who had flung that truncheon out at the celebrator maintained his stern look. After a few seconds of pause, he warned the celebrators in Namorese: "Don't fuck with us, you understand? Because if you go too far to assault another innocent person then I'll see you all at Nanniwan." He barked at the celebrators. "Now leave!"

"Come on, let's go! Let's go!" one of the celebrators headed back. Slowly and steadily the others returned to the rest of the celebrators, still chanting slogans and singing songs in Freedom Square. One of the armed policemen made his way towards Damir, his nose bleeding, but still breathing at the very least.

"Should've taken another route. Didn't someone warn you that Freedom Square can get really shitty these days? Come on, follow me."

He helped him up, and sent him to the nearest clinic.

The Firebrand "EduProp" (Educational Propaganda) for the 2014 Unolian Emergency Elections:

"With the sudden passing of our Great Leader and Teacher, Jarrod Thuman, the Premier, Andrea Tugstein, announced that the Unolian People will hold elections for the Assembly of the People. We must learn about the new form of elections through the Jahistic Republics, which is Proportional Representation.

There are 500 seats to the Assembly of the People. Ten of those seats go to the Jahistic Island Republic of New Ukruda and eight go to the Jahistic Island Republic of Kentanu. Both of these Republics are different because they still use First Past the Post electoral systems. After this, the City of Unolia is given two seats, which are elected by the City Council of the Capital City of Unolia.

Now there are 480 seats left. With these 480 seats, the People of the Jahistic Republic of Unolia will take to the polls to vote for the party that they prefer. Each Jahistic Republic has a different way of arranging for the Party they want to be put on a ballot, but for the most part, it takes around 5,000 signatures on a petition to enroll a political party on the ballot. As of this broadcast, there are over twenty political parties that are "universally enrolled" on the ballot. That means that these twenty parties are on all ten ballots for each Republic.

48 seats are allocated and voted on per Jahistic Republic. The results apply to each Jahistic Republic. That means the results from Urugerbia will not influence the results from Tunegal.

When the votes are counted, they will then be divided under a five percent threshold. All votes to parties that do not meet this threshold will be distributed to the next lowest party that does make the threshold.

Be sure to vote on February 28th!"

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."
