Within the region of Orbis Terrae, the Imperial Federation has come to believe that the annual plague is the result of either of three options:

1) The Holly See of San Benedict e San Francesco: The small island nation is the center for orthodox Christianity in OT, and there are those within the Imperial government who believe the See developed the disease to shatter the resolve and strength of those believing the church to be too controlling, as well as to bring true believers--especially the weaker minded--closer to the See. 2) As per the defacto rules of geopolitics, the Imperial Federation, the Royal Empire of Iander, and the United Kingdom of GOram are constantly squaring off. Being an ally of "Cousin Iander", Gibet consistently finds herself at odds with GOram, who they have come to believe has created the particular strain of the virus that afflicts the region. This theory is perhaps the most widely circulated by the propaganda arm of the Imperial Government, and fuels contempt for GOram.

3) The third theory regarding the outbreak is that the disease is simply natural, and has occurred following generations of mutations amongst ants afflicted with the Cordyceps virus, which then transferred to other animals, before the unknown Patient Zero was infected with the disease through undiscovered means. This theory holds the most probability, and is most accepted by the scientific and civilian communities.
