Tom looked at the gigantic house-cat that was eating the beastly corpses. He held his Scythe close and made sure it wouldn't join with the mess. He extended his hand to shake Renee's hand and greeted him in return. "My name is Thomas, you can call me Tom." He saw more people had joined the conversation. At least he could get some friends. The girl was explaining to the other about the Scythes and Reapers. Both were brown haired boys, and it seemed that neither one of them paying attention on the briefing.

"If I wasn't mistaken, the coffee and chocolate are laced with demon blood." Tom helped explaining to the other guys. "I guess it was the thing that turn us into part-time Reaper." Tom took a sip from his cup of coffee. "By the way, the name's Thomas, but Tom will do. Nice to meet you guys."

"Oh, standard" he starts, incredulously, "it's just spiked with demon blood." He stands, moving towards what is now a fairly lukewarm coffee pot. "For the sake of politeness, I'm going to assume that the rest of you have already long since stopped freaking out, providing that you're all rational human beings, and skip to the part where we're all accepting of this insanity" he ends with a sigh, quickly becoming his signature, and picking up the pot.
"I'm also Thomas, by the way. Never Tom or Tommy. Thomas," taking a breath before drinking straight from the pot.

Kegan Kruvok

Kegan stared at Renee for a moment as he thought of his current situation. Suddenly, he remembered that he had met that girl from somewhere before, but he couldn't remember where. "Hey, have we met before?" He asked in a soft, bored tone as he pointed to Renee. "I swear I've seen you before, I just can't put my finger on it." He semi shrugged his shoulders as he finished speaking as if to say, "oh well". He looked down at his watch, it was getting rather late and he was sure that the person he had over would be asleep by now.

Renee Reyer

Renee, tilting her head, stared at Kegan back. She realized that he was the occupant of the next apartment unit, meaning that he was her next-door-neighbor. "Oh, hey! I remember you. I believe I saw you once, and you were moving in the next apartment unit. You're my neighbor. How strange of a coincidence that we both decided to get a job here. I mean, you're not the type to pay much attention to a soul-reaping job advertisement, which can easily sound like some sort of hoax." She shrugged. "Well, I didn't expect this course of events to happen, so I might be staying here for a bit longer. I hope my cat would be fine--no, not that weirdo of a familiar, my normal cat that I bought three years ago. Sometimes, I've had to go away from the house for unplanned long periods of time, and he was fine. Hopefully, the apartment owner doesn't mind. God, if she found out, she'd most likely kick me out." Shivering, the embarassed Renee stopped her rambling. "Oh, sorry about my rambling, I just get so caught up in these things, you know?"

Kegan Kruvok

Kegan stared at Renee for a moment as she rambled on about meaningless things that he wasn't quite interested in. He would give the occasional "uh-huh" to make it seem that he was interested. "Well, I didn't have any better ideas so why not apply? At least, that was the thought process when I saw the sign." Kegan said as he leaned back in the chair, letting his arms and head hang down as he looked at Renee. "Your cat is loud at night sometimes, but I never hear anyone talking. Do you not have any friends? If not, then you're welcome to come over for tea, or coffee if you prefer, though I prefer alcohol." Kegan said with a blank stare and a soft tone.

Renee Reyer

Renee started profusely apologizing. "Sorry, sorry, sorry, I'm really sorry about the rambling and all. I do have friends over sometimes, but they don't do loud parties, and we usually just play board games. Sometimes my family comes for a visit." She coughed after that statement. Those board games would consist of Chess and Dungeons and Dragons, which was somewhat embarassing to admit in a so-called professional workplace. "I do have a couple of cases of beer, and I could bring them over if you like--wait... aren't you a bit young for alcohol?"

Kegan Kruvok

"Whats important is if the one consuming alcohol is able to still function in society. So long as it doesn't effect my grades or my money then I see no issues with it." Kegan said shaking his head. "Besides, I live by myself so it's not like there is anyone to disapprove of it." As he spoke, his blank expression got more intense levels of "blankness". It seemed like it was almost from a anime or manga.

Renee Reyer

Renee had a blank face so blank, her mouth was pressed into a straight line. Her voice was quiet and stern, which was her normal tone. "You may still be able to function in society, but when society doesn't function, you're going to have to save up your booze supply. I have an entire spare room for that purpose, you know? I find that it's easier to plan for better jobs when I'm not all buzzed up. For example, I'm pretty sure I applied for soul-reaping when I was drunk." This universe is most certainly an anime.

Kegan Kruvok

Kegan came to the realization that this world.....was indeed an anime.

Kegan looked at the girl as he was finally served his coffee and took a drink. "I make it a point to not be publicly intoxicated. While it is fun, it's also stupid." He said with a chuckle. "Now then, how exactly do I go about summoning my scythe?" Kegan said as he downed the rest of his coffee. "I'd like to get the 'heads rollin', for lack of a better term."

Putting down the coffee pot, amid a slurry of comments not exclusively but related to things such as, "Oh god that was a bad idea" and, while hunched over, "that was disgusting, why did I do that?"
Brushing off the few spills that had escaped his mouth from his chin, "Christ I hate coffee."
He pauses, head turned towards the floor, exhales and then inhales, before hearing his fellow latecomer taking the significantly easier route of getting a hot mug, asking how to conjure a scythe.
"Yes!" Shouts Thomas, before recoiling in pain, hands on his upper thighs to balance himself, "I too wish to know how to get a scythe, and make this worth the disgust."

Thomas Peterson
"Congrats!" Tom offered his hand to both Kegan and Thomas. "Now we're all sons of bitches. And Thomas, I don't think it tastes that bad. You're overreacting." He called his Familiar and it willingly came to him. "Like our boss said, we use our souls to summon the Scythe. Think of it like those anime where the characters would use mana and chackra to do anime stuffs." Tom put his cup to a nearby table and try to imitate his previous attempt at summoning Scythe.

"What I did, I imagined that I can see my soul and try to catch it. I know it sounds stupid, but you see the tiger." He gestured at the tiger. Maybe he should name him? Well he could think of it later. "So, Boss, do we need to do anything else now? When do we start catching those monsters?"

"It's cold coffee, so yes" he pauses for effect, "it tastes bad, all grainy and bitter" taking the hand of the other Thomas.
"Souls eh? Never had to consider something like this before" mimicking the pose shown to him, following the broad instructions. Imagine catching the soul. Sure, that's completely rational and not at all an insane thing to do.
Closing his eyes and meditating on his thoughts, a light appeared to him, clearer and brighter than any thought he's had before, strange, seeing as this bright object was almost entirely black, featuring red flashes over it's surface. Willing it, he perceived it moving to his now outstretched hand, feeling his lock around the handle of a blade, which like any normal person, he reacted with shock, a loud exclamation featuring, shall we say, choice words and phrases, careless swinging the newly born sabre about his general area.

Kegan Kruvok

Kegan watched amusingly as the others spoke and summoned their scythes. "So it goes something like this?" Kegan asked as he held out his hand. A few seconds later, the sword could be seen materializing in Kegans hand. Once it was done, Kegan grabbed tight on it as he felt it's weight. "It's perfect, the weight, length, craftsmanship, everything." Kegan said while a honest smile on his face. "So when can I make heads roll?" He asked with a twinkle in his eye.

Thomas looked at him incredulously. "You've literally just materialised a weapon out of thin air, *literal* magic, and the first thing you think of is killing stuff?" He shakes his head judgingly, "you are a bunch of vicious bastards aren't you?"

"The sharpest swords are the ones who are always ready. So are they the sharpest ones because they are always ready, or are they always ready because they are the sharpest ones?" Kegan asked with a sadistic grin on his face. "Oh but don't get me wrong, I'm not always all blood and gore, just sometimes." Kegan said as his expression totally disappeared and gave way to a face of pure nothingness. His tone and expression were the definition of total nothingness. The quote about staring into the abyss and the abyss stares back into you would be an understatement in this case. Lions fear it, man studies it, sloth envies it. This was Kegans finest hour of listlessness. Of course this would change as he got back into swinging his sword around. "Gonna have so much fun!" Kegan yelled as he jumped in the air and landed his butt in his seat, almost falling backwards.

Thomas flinched at the boys wild swinging of his new blade. "Okay, two things. First, that quote is meaningless. You can't just say things to look intellectual if it doesn't mean anything. Secondly," he pauses to dematerialise his blade, "you're *insane*, fucking insane" saying this as he throws his hand up.

Kegan looked at at Thomas for a moment. "Is it really meaningless? It's a kind of which came first the chicken or the egg things. However, if you are incapable or unwilling to solve it then I'll give up." He said as he played with his sword more calmly. Kegan sat there for a moment as he began to think. "So anyways, it's getting late. Let's just wrap this up, I still have school tomorrow."

"The egg his pride somewhat tarnished, responds disappointedly. "Clearly it's the egg, following evolution and that eggs have existed before chickens" continuing in a smug manner, brushing his chin with his right hand.

Kegan grinned at Thomas as he answered. "So which one is the egg? The sharpness of the blade or the blade that is always ready?" Kegan asked, figuring that Thomas would be stumped by the question once again. Kegan was really enjoying this, so much that if he wasn't careful, he would lose all track of time.

"The sharpest are always ready because those are the ones which have been soonest worked upon, presenting a sharp blade to replace a dull one" Thomas responds, trying not to be goaded into any ganes.

Kegan stared at Thomas for a moment. "Well, that's one way to put it. However, here is another way." Kegan paused for a moment. "Dull blades are useless, thus they are never ready when needed. So one must always keep a sharp blade ready, otherwise they are never ready. It's kind of like the saying for pistols. Those who don't keep one chambered will spend the rest of their lives racking the slide." Kegan said with a chuckle.

Renee shrugged upon hearing his edgelord statements. Honestly, she didn't really care how edgy he tried to be, as long as he didn't act his edgelord tendencies on herself or her friends. "We have cool killing weapons, and you're saying that we SHOULDN'T kill things with our cool killing weapons? I believe that undermines the entire purpose of those, you know?" Thomas turned in surprise at her, pegging her as somewhat of the more sensible of the group. Clearly mistaken. "I'm saying that it's a tad short sighted to just want to kill things and not, I don't know," pausing to wave his arms about for dramatic effect, "explore our newly found abilities to discover what else we can do" he takes a small intake of breath, "going to go kill things immediately, us being mostly untrained with what we have here, sounds like an immediate death sentence."

"Untrained? Speak for yourself." Kegan said as he spun around in his chair a few times before pointing his sword at Thomas. "I've done MMA and have a pretty good record. I've also practiced some swordsmanship in my spare time. I'm not a master or anything, but I think I can handle myself." He gave a big grin to Thomas before he hopped over the chair, landing on his feet. He then walked a few steps forward and spun around in a circle on one foot before coming to a stop by Renee and putting an arm on her shoulder. "The best training is done in combat."

Renee shrugged. "Don't get me wrong, I dislike killing things, and I also find it somewhat strange to immediately want to kill things just after receiving a Scythe. I prefer to learn the abilities of the Scythe first, you know? We don't know anything about using these, so why would we just want to rush into battle and kill ourselves? That is what I meant, although I still stand with my point that these are designed for killing things."

I believe training for them would be a wiser solution, and considering that we can actually die here, we should prepare for them first. Plus, what can I do? I just have a pocket knife and a weird cat familiar." She pointed at the giant orange fuzzball at her feet.
