Changing A Nation (Character/Political RP) - Open/OOC

Postby Terrelis » Wed Nov 02, 2016 2:19 pm

Changing A Nation
A Government Simulation
IC | Senate | Archives

The Commonwealth of Columbia is a small nation of only 2.4 Million, located in the Hala'ib Triangle (including Bir Tawil). Founded in 2001 by a group of like minded Americans after the election of George Bush, the once progressive nation with skyrocketing immigration has turned into an incarnation of the very state from which it fled. Made of up people from all over the world, a majority of the population come from Africa and the Middle East though they are the most disenfranchised. Elections are coming up and the people want something new and fresh. Will you be able to Change A Nation?

June 2001 - Group of Billionaires move to Bir Tawil, they sign an agreement with the Sudanese and Egyptian governments to maintain control of the territory.

July 2001 - The founders open the border to a select group of American workers to begin building infrastructure. Population reaches 3,000.

October 2006 - Jamestown is completed though relatively small.

December 2006 - Founders open borders to corporations, and only tax them 2.5% with a minimum wage of $5/hour. Population reaches 7,000.

May 2007 - Jamestown is expanded. Founders come to an agreement with the Egyptians and Sudanese to attain control of the Hala'ib triangle, construction on new city in Hala'ib begins. More workers invited, population reaches 20,000.

January 2011 - New city is completed; named Oasis.

May 2011 - James Andrews is elected president, by founders;

July 2011 - Andrews opens borders, but only though the cost of citizenship is only affordable for the wealthy. Population reaches 35,000.

November 2011 - The founders vote to eliminate citizenship cost, though citizenship test are instituted which allow for easier selection of "preferred" immigrants.

January 2012 - Population reaches 80,000; majority college educated whites from the United States and Europe.

August 2012 - Founders adopt open border policy; majority of the immigrants come from Africa and the middle east, as well as American minorities.

September 2012 - Population reaches 176,000. Constitution Established. Several political parties arise in the wake of the inaugural elections. The Pioneer Party, who represents the interest of the founders and elites; the Progressive Party, who represent the working class; and the Radical Left, who represent the younger generation.

December 2012 - First election are held; Pioneers wins Presidency with Andrews as candidate, and the Senate with Dakota Douglas as leader.

January-June 2013 - Population reaches 465,000.Senate passes several pro-business laws, disenfranchising the growing working class. Number of corporations grows from 8 to 23. A gorup African-Americans found a new community called Freetown in Southwest Hala'ib. Two new cities are approved by the government; one in Bir Tawil and one in Hala'ib.

July 2013- Deadly sandstorm kills nearly 1,000 people; Andrews and government does little in relief efforts.

November 2014 - Nazi Terrorist group calling themselves the Peoples Front, led by a man who goes by The General, launches an attack at a sporting even and kills 432 people.

December 2014 - Andrews wins reelection; Progressive take control of Senate.

January-March 2015 - Progressives and RLUF pass several key bills including a National Healthcare Bill, making healthcare more affordable, and a Education bill, establishing standards and guidelines for Columbian schools. Much of Andrews agenda is blocked due to little power of the President.

April 2015 - Columbia is recognized by the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and France.

October 2015 - Sofia Church, a Progressive Senator, authors a bill that sets high regulations on firearms; bill passes 192-108.

January-May 2016 - Number of corporation grows from 23 to 39, influx in wealthy immigrants. Population reaches 1.6 million.

June 2016 - Columbia Recognized by United Kingdom, Spain, China, and South Africa.

August 2016 - Governments approved cities are completed: Plymouth (Bir Tawil) and New Havana (Hala'ib) are completed. Population reaches 1.2 Million.

November 2016 - Columbia recognized by Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands; admitted to the African Union.

December 2016 - Andrews wins re-election; Pioneers take the senate, National Civic Faction emerges as fourth major party. Largest sum of corporate donation in Columbian history.

January 2017 - Population reaches 1.9 Million.

March 2017 - Private schools are legalized, limitation on firearm purchases are relaxed.

April 2017 - Corporate tax is lowered to 2.3% and flat tax of 10% is instituted.

September 2017 - National Healthcare Act is repealed, municipalities are given semi-autonomy on healthcare matters.

January 2018 - Military funding is increased while Education and Healthcare are decreased.

May 2018 - Largest city in Columbia is completed on the shores of the red sea, city named Kingston after its primary donor Xavier King. Population reaches 2.2 Million.

September 2018 - Freetown reaches a population of 163,000; government fails to recognize it as an official city. African Americans outraged.

December 2018 - Andrews retires, Senator Dakota Douglas wins presidency for Pioneers; No clear Senate majority.

January 2019 - Peoples Front sets fire to the Progressive headquarters 134 people are killed.

August 2019 - Education is decentralized and each city is given semi-autonomy over education.

November 2019 - Columbia Admitted to the United Nations.

January 2020 - Several candidates announce their bid for election, and the Pioneers are projected to lose their majority in the 2021 election. Population reaches 2.75 million, as annual immigration limits are instituted, no more than 175,000 annually; illegal immigration is on the rise.

So in this RP you will play as Senator, Mayor, member of Cabinet, or any other profession, and you will be trying to either take control or maintain control depending on which party you choose. You can create your own party if that's what you want to do, and you cant control up to three characters. You're also able to control foreign leaders as well but they cant be your primary character.

I am fine with the decision you posted before. I understand where you are coming from with Freetown. I will keep the origins I mentioned, though, that RLUF originated from universities and the unrecognized towns before expanding on a national level, mostly in New Havana, Jefferson and will be focusing on Oasis and Freetown as well as the industrial hubs.

I will have an app ready by Saturday for certain.

Political party app
Official Name: Columbian National Populist Party
Shortened Name/Abbreviation: CNPP
Leader: Evan Dolftler
Main Beliefs:

Trade: Protectionism, Mercantilism
Economic: Capitalism, Keynesian,
Immigration: Overhaul where only well educated are let into the country, Deport all illegal immigrants, No birthright citizenship
Eduation: More patriotism, Less opposition
Civil: Social Conservatism,
Miliary: Huge military spending increases, Invade neighboring countries
Foreign: Expansionism, Chauvinsim, Warmongering

Background:
The party was born from disgruntled workers in Plymouth in the year 2017, who were angry at the fact that that the system was rigged against them, led by the charismatic Evan Doftler, the party achieved a huge wave election, winning the election in Bushtown in a huge landslide, where Doftler became the mayor defeating the pioneer incumbent of the city. Running under the promise of huge infrastructure investments in the city, the CNPP time in Bushtown was marked by considerable economic growth eclipsing many other cities. In the midterms the party won 2 seats in the senate mostly in the area near Bushtown, campaigning on a platform to abolish birthright citizenship the party found roots among the normally disenfranchised white blue collar workers, and military members.

Foreign:
Liberalization of immigration quotas, maintaining and reforming citizenship tests.
Diplomacy-first relations.
Anti-interventionism.
Moderate national defense.

Background:

The Colombian People's Party is the nation's equivalent to the Christian Democratic parties common in Europe. It's roots lying in early American Christian immigrants and missionaries, it only reached the national scale when it moved on from its western roots to embrace various immigrant Coptic Christians and others from Egypt, while bringing a great many Muslims coming in from the African nations under its wing. It's party stands for "family values", and "compassionate government", and has walked a line that has brought in people of both Christian and Muslim background.

With the nation's main political parties leaving no room for social conservatives, many, in fact, anti-religious, the CPP found a broad, unreached base to grow from, attaining prominence as one of the nation's largest parties.

Character App
Name: Jinan 'Isam Amjad
Age: 47
Appearance: (Image)
Image

Position: (Senator or other profession) Senator
Political Ideology: Pro-Immigration, Pro-Life, Minority enfranchisement, Protectionism, strong national security, non-interventionism, Capitalism, Keynesian economics.
Political Party: National Civic Faction
Bio: Jinan 'Isam Amjad was a longtime resident of Benghazi, Libya. He remained there as a religious scholar, working as an Imam in a local Mosque. When the Civil War came around, he had lost both his home and his family. Traumatized by these events, he fled his country for a better life in the young nation of Colombia. His story became known across Colombia as evidence of the opportunity the country can provide to those in need, and he became somewhat of a celebrity in the nation. Settling in Plymouth, he had supported the National Civic Faction, due to their Colombia first policy, and support for Immigration.

He had joined the ranks of the NCF, and in 2017, he ran for Senate. Facing off against more experienced candidates, he was able to win the election with 34% to the Progressive candidate's 29%. This victory was largely because of Amjad's strong appeal to working class voters, and his charisma in general. In the Senate, Amjad has worked tirelessly to ensure the prosperity of the Colombian people, opposing any extension to the Pioneer cuts to Education and Healthcare, their limitations on Immigration, and has sponsored multiple acts focusing on ensuring the safety of Colombians, without more military spending. He has publicly expressed interest in running for President soon...

Official Name: Colombian People's Party
Shortened Name/Abbreviation: CPP, People's Party.
Leader: Ella Reingold
Main Beliefs:
Domestic:

Heterosexual-only marriage
Banning of elective abortion.
Moderately pro-gun.
Moderately pro-privacy.
Freedom of conscience bills.

Economic:
Substantial minimum wage.
Social safety net.
Worker regulations.
Mild environmentalism.
Capitalist, private-driven economy.
VAT tax, lower, progressive, income taxes. Abolition of property tax.
Guaranteed maternity leave.
Equal pay act.

What is that supposed to mean?

These Constitutional rights seem very vague and broad, (i.e., easy to abuse) with some notable ones missing. Should be interesting, at least.

Political Party: National Civic Faction
Bio: Jinan 'Isam Amjad was a longtime resident of Benghazi, Libya. He remained there as a religious scholar, working as an Imam in a local Mosque. When the Civil War came around, he had lost both his home and his family. Traumatized by these events, he fled his country for a better life in the young nation of Colombia. His story became known across Colombia as evidence of the opportunity the country can provide to those in need, and he became somewhat of a celebrity in the nation. A few things;
1. Plymouth isn't religious, check the municipalities list I updated it, so that wouldn't help you there.
2. There's already an intelligence bureau, check the database link.

Other than that he looks good, Accepted

I've updated the OP to include some more information on demographics!

Also, I'm only accepting four new parties; two spots are gone so that means two left. I will be accepting based on content and not posting order.

Character App
Name: Aqualla Madinque
Age: 45
Appearance: [img]
http://www.aljazeera.com/mritems/Images/2012/1/18/201211875826647734_20.jpg
[/img]
Position: Senator
Political Ideology: Traditionalism, conservative, Christian right
Political Party: Pioneer Party
Bio: Aqualla was born in South Sudan in the middle of the Sudanese civil war. His family lived and worked in a farming village. Like most South Sudanese, Aqualla was raised to be very religious, and would attend the local missionary church for Sunday service. At the age of 11, an airstrike caused a massive fire in the middle of the night which engulfed most of the village. His father, and two sisters were killed in the blaze, leaving only him and his mother alive. Aqualla's mother, now a widow, decided there was nothing left for here in South Sudan, and thus decided to accept a refugee status through the local mission. They would receive asylum in the United States, and would live there for 10 years. Aqualla did well in school, and received a scholarship to Stanford. He studied accounting and law. He would work in a Detroit based law firm until it went under in the 2008 recession. By that time though, he had amassed enough wealth that he, his mother, and his family could live comfortably. Aqualla would choose to move to Colombia in 2009 and set up his own law firm. It attained reasonable success. In 2017, he would become involved in politics, winning a senatorial seat that same year.
