Amha Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia

January 1st, 1950

Emperor Amha Selassie overlooked the front yard of the palace as he saw the palace water fountain shoot the lines of water into the tub, and the sprinklers water the front lawn with a smile on his face. Seeing the front of his palace every morning was soothing to the Emperor as it symbolized even in the face of growing problems, beauty can still be achievable. He soon turned around to the sound of a door opening into his office as he met gaze with his secretary. "They are ready for you Emperor", the secretary says as Selassie nods and makes his way into the hall. The palace is decorated in the most luxurious of decor that one could expect to fine within a governmental palace ordered by a Emperor. Portraits of past rulers lined the walls with cleaning staff on duty during the day to make sure dust is never an issue.

Selassie soon reached a rather large room with chairs seated around a long wooden table, situated with chairs all around. In those chairs was the members of his private privy council, as well as some of the wealthy elite of his nation. He soon made his way to take a seat and one of the men spoke, "Good morning emperor, I trust you got a good rest" said the man. The emperor turned his head towards him looking sleep-deprived, "Of course, I always do." A force smile was given for pleasantries, but the emperor was deprived of rest with the struggles of his position and of his nation. This was going to make for one of his regular meeting he host with his privy council, to which they talk about the issues of the nation and come up with a plan, but somehow the plans never go quite as expected. With the threats of many of the lower peasants taking the communist ideology to heart, the emperor sunk down into his chair and prepared to hear the arguments of today which he knew would amount to nothing.

"Let the upcoming of the world...begin.." The emperor said.

Proletarier aller Länder, vereinigt Euch!

A cold, January day. Yesterday, the year had ended, and now was the beginning of the next decade, for a nation only 5 years ago destroyed in ash and fire. Now, this Germany was reborn. Due to the celebration seen through out the nation, the East Germans were quite happy, sleepy, or simply hungover. Including the border guard on the "Inner German Border", not to be confused with the Berlin Wall. Even a entire decade before the Berlin Wall, the eastern border quit resembled it, with high metal chain fences and walls, minefields, anti-tank ditches, alarms, barbed wire, and booby traps. Immigration was weakening the Republic's economy, over 1.6 million had left for West Germany and beyond between late 1945 and the middle of 1946. In 1947, the border on the eastern side was made tighter. More Soviet troops were sent to the border and the newly-established Volkspolizei sent men to assist along the border.

However, one man meant to cross to the West German side without government permission. His name, Stephan Schäfer. Schäfer was a lonely man. Ever since the formation of East and West, he lived in the east, originally wanting to gain enough money to emigrate, because he lost all of his valuables during WWII. But he had never been able to gain enough money. He was just barely getting enough to eat food and pay rent for his apartment. He wasn't a fan of East Germany's communist government either, not that he ever announced it.

And now, Schäfer found himself on the border of East and West. He took as much food and money as he could possibly take with him, before going to the border. He had managed to arrive at a time where the guards were either going to sleep, or were drunk on duty. Taking this advantage, he quickly ran on the road running through the borders before making it into West Germany. However, a guard on duty had spotted Schäfer. However, by that point, it was too late, Schäfer had successfully escaped.

East Germany, outraged, sent a message to the West German government, saying:
Currently, there is a man inside your nation who belongs in our nation, rightfully. He did not emigrate legally, and instead chose to illegally enter your borders. We demand that this man be returned to us at once. Or else.

"Germany can't have two hearts..."-Nationalist Insurgent

Dresden, East Germany: January 1st 1950

It was with cold fury that Dresden would be the center of a blood bath. In the cold hours of the morning there would be cold revenge. A truck, old and beaten but still running made it's way to the local police station, now a symbol of communist authority. It's existence was an insult to the fatherland, and whatever sins the Nazi's had done, Germany could not be left torn apart by the West and East, especially behind the red fence of Communism. The truck contained eight men in the back, at least three of them former SS, the other a mixture of WW2 vets and a two poor citizens. They gripped their weapons in anticipation, half carried Mausers, with a mixture of soviet SKS rifles and MP40's from the world war. The veterans were here to lead the assault on the red menace, they didn't have the fear that the few new recruits had. They had been there on the eastern front and in the ruins of Berlin.

As the truck pulled up, a police man was to suspicious and approached. The new red dogs that were bred from the East Germans were taught to sniff out traitors to the crimson crown in the far east and they did it well. The driver's cover was blown and with three fast cracks of his p38 left the police man hunched over, in a pool of blood. The noise wouldn't go unnoticed and it was time to go loud. The men poured out of the back in yelling. The trucks drove forward and smashed itself into the station, the driver was riddled with bullets for his actions. The men with rifle peppered the building with those with sub machine guns and semi-auto rifles pushed forward under the cover of gun fire. A stick grenade was hurled through the entrance and a thunderous blast of nationalist fervor was heard.

Now...Men began to die....

Excerpts from "Fascism and Bourgeoisism around the Soviet Union", writted by Nikolai Ignatov and published to "Pravda" on January 6th, 1950

Almost five years have passed since the final defeat of the national-"socialist" regime in Germany, led by Adolf Hitler and his group of loyal members and politicians, collectively the NSDAP, pretending to be a "party of German workers" and "socialist". It's easy to debunk this myth by looking at Germany after it was taken by force by Hitler's junta - they immediately dropped the red backdrop and went full bourgeois dictatorship. In fact, this bloody regime, responsible for millions of deaths of peaceful Soviet citizens, had unrealistic, but dangerous plans to conquer the entire planet, USSR included. That is why on June 22nd, 1941, this bloodthirsty menace attacked the Union, starting the Great Patriotic War. Now, almost five years later, the Union will soon have to stand it's ground again. Even though fascistic and bourgeois elements were wiped out from the Union and it's allied nations, the Western Nations, led by the imperialistic and exploitive United States of America, went a different path and embraced the ideology that was responsible for the most bloody war in human history.

..look no further than Germany. Unlike in the free and worker-run German Democratic Republic, where leaders loyal to the Socialist cause quickly wiped out and dealt with any Nazi leader remnants, in the so-called "German Empire" the leaders instead hid the suspects of the Nurnberg Trials and employed them in top governmental positions. Erwin Rommel, one of the most infamous Hitler's generals, was chosen as the Presidential Candidate for the Christian-Democrats. Even though the people of Germany unitedly voted against putting a former member of the party that started the bloodiest war in human history as President, thanks to harassment, vote scamming and pressure from USA, he was elected, though universally unpopular.

...in China, even though the public majority supported the Communist Party and it's leader, Mao Dzedung, the Kuomintang crushed the voice of the workers and estabilished their own rule over the Chinese people. Although, according to the Constitution and what is officially told to the outside world, China is a democratic republic where everyone's votes are equal, that is not actually the case. Instead, it became the world's largest, most oppressive and most populous bourgeois republic. The workers have to endure obscene working conditions to earn, at best, a laughably small wage when compared to the average Soviet citizen. While the capitalists and monopolists, who hold massive factories and profitable tea and grain fields, profit, the disparity between the classes is becoming wider. As such, class struggle in our southeast neighbor is the most wild and widespread, but the massive bourgeois armies hold the nation tight. China has become the most powerful ally of America in Asia, and is already a dangerous threat to world communism.

The Soviet Union is surrounded by enemies - exploitive capitalist empires, neo-fascist nations - but that does not mean that we will stop! Should the enemy attack, every Soviet citizen must be ready to take arms!

You are invited to a secret meeting of communist leaders in Kiev, Ukrainian SSR, on February 1st, 1950. The meeting's programme includes discussion on defense against the USA-led capitalist coalition, separate trade deals, support for communist paramilitary groups in capitalist countries, and most importantly, negotiations on an alliance between all countries involved to increase protection against foreign threats.

This telegram must be securely disposed of after reading. The results of the meeting, should there be any, will be released into public later. We await your arrival.

3rd Conference of the Muslim Brotherhood
Ismailia, Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan.
January 1st, 1950.

Image
"Islam is the solution. The Koran is our Constitution. Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Jihad is our way of life. Dying for Allah is our higher aspiration."
-Hassan al Banna, 1st Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood

The skies were very sunny and clear for the city of Ismailia, Egypt's port city nearest to the Suez Canal. Not only rich and vibrant in population, but rich in foreigners. Egyptians who are struggling to make their ends, but now, they're present at the 3rd Conference of the Muslim Brotherhood. Even the poor and destitute are members of the Muslim Brotherhood, though they don't pay their dues, their membership is by now 1.5million, and counting in Egypt and in other Arab countries.

The representatives present are from other countries as far as Iran and as conservative as Saudi Arabia.

The most notable members are from the Communist Party of Egypt, and they're impressed with the MB's efficiency.

The speaker behind the podium is Hassan al-Banna, a man of peace, who exudes a display of confidence and aura of care, about other oppressed peoples in the Arab world, and the struggles of fighting against Western imperialism.

The people who are spectators are both members of the movement and the ordinary populace tired of the hard life of Egypt, listened in with intent and focus.

Hassan al-Banna spoke with passion:

"Today, is the time, by Allah's patience, that we have to rebel against our masters. We are slaves for the British and the French. For far too long, the Muslim nations live in an era of ignorance that the people who admire Western culture realize that this is humiliating on our religion. I would be glad to die if not for the foundation of this movement. We are in alliance with the communists who are present in this conference. Though we have internal difference, we share the same goal, that is the unification of the Arab states against the illegal Zionist state, Israel. I pledge, to liberate Egypt's people whenever possible, with our Communist friends. Today and tomorrow, is the time of Islamic awakening!"

The spectators in the crowd are cheering intensely, for long their tired of the King's oppression and dictatorship, are only to seek for freedom, or death.

The King waked up early, only to bombarded with reports that the Egyptian people are the highest point of discontent since the 1919 Revolution. The revolution that his father dealt with.

He thinks, in his Palace Garden and realizes

A grenade exploded inside the police station. The windows were blasted to pieces from the bullets entering through. The civilians inside couldn't just flee, they'd be shot if they tried to do anything. No, they would be shot just for being there.

A man quickly walked into the office of the Head of State himself, Wilhelm Pieck. The man coldly said "There has been what appears to be a attack in Dresden. We assume it is a local uprising, although it could be the Deutsch Volksarmee. We need a solution to this "uprising", fast, less the westerners use this to their advantage." He gave Wilhelm a paper, stating:
-Military Forces currently located in Dresden, as of 1-1-50.-
-Panzerregiment 14 Karol Swierczewski
-Panzerregiment 15 Paul Hornick
-Panzerregiment 16 Leo Jogiches
-Mot.-Schützenregiment 7 Max Roscher
-Artillerieregiment 7 Albert Hößler
-Führungsbatterie Chef Raketen/Artillerie 7
-Fla-Raketen Regiment 7 Paul Rockstroh
-Führungsbatterie Chef Truppenluftabwehr 7
-Raketenabteilung 7 Alfred Kurella
-Schwere Werferabteilung 7 Ernst Schneller
-Aufklärungsbatallion 7 Ludvik Svoboda
-Pionierbatallion 7 Arthur Thiermann
-Nachrichtenbatallion 7 Egon Dreger
-Battalion Materielle Sicherstellung 7 Kurt Schlosser
-Instandsetzungsbatallion 7 Gustav Schneider
-Battalion Chemische Abwehr 7 Johann Eggert
-Sanitätsbatallion 7
-Ersatzregiment 7

Wilhelm looked at the paper, before stating "Send Panzerregiment 14, 15, 16 to the area of uprising. Enforce a curfew until this uprising is curbed. I shall have to report this to the Soviets in the next conference." Wilhelm dismissed the man, and closed the door to send a telegram to the Soviet government, stating:

We are glad to say that I will attend this conference. I personally have quite a few topics to discuss, some of which may worry you. If you, or any of your superiors wish, I would be glad to discuss these topics via. telegram as soon as I can.

Amha Selassie, Emperor of Ethiopia

January 10th, 1950

Emperor Selassie had begun receiving reports lately about the growing influence of communism in his country. Ever since the meeting on that Sunday with his privy council, the situation just seems to be escalating. The Emperor still had not been getting a good nights rest and was always sleep-deprived throughout his days which he had begun to use makeup to try and hide how tired he really was. "Hello Emperor", a voice he heard and turned to the door of his room to see no one was there. He soon sat down on his bed and rubbed his eyes, "You heard me alright mister, don't ignore me." The voice spoke up again with no direction as the emperor replied, "Where are you? Show yourself!" The room went quiet and nothing happened for around a minute to which the emperor let out a slight sigh.

He turned to a mirror by a dresser as he approached and took a look at himself. As he had picked up his makeup to begin applying it to not look so tired the figure in the mirror spoke, "I'm right here!" The emperor jumped back a little as he looked at the person in the mirror which was just his reflection, but it was talking to him. "You're getting really sleepy and we need rest. You're troubled by the communist so much we can't actually function." Selassie knew this must be a hallucination from his lack of sleep and tried to block out the mirror and stand, "Don't leave! I need sleep as much as you and I believe I have a deal that will end your problem." The emperor stopped and turned back around to speak, "What do you propose?" knowing he was probably on the verge of insanity to be taking any advice from himself in the mirror. "Launch a crackdown on the various groups that threaten the status-quo, they must know that you are strong and if they're defeated you can sleep soundly." Selassie had thought back to his father for a moment and all that he did for the people after that was stated.

His father, Haile Selassie I's picture stood above the mirror frames as he stared into it. His father had launched modernization efforts around the country to get away from the status-quo of things to help his people. When he died, Amha decided under pressure from his older and more experienced advisers to give up on the reforms due to him having little knowledge of actually being able to run the country effectively under them. "I know you're thinking and I know what's going through your mind, but if you launch a crackdown on these groups you can still implement your own reforms finally and bring the people back to you!" The logic made sense as Amha really didn't wish to cancel the reforms, but just couldn't sense what his father wanted to really do. He knew the communist posed a huge threat to the stability of the Empire and was inclined to agree, "I'll order them in the morning." Amha said to the mirror as the image faded and he placed on his makeup without interruption. He later requested his secretary to summon the Imperial Ethiopian Police Commissioner to the palace for a chat later in the day.

Bahta Yerga, Citizen of Ethiopia

January 11th, 1950

Bahta Yerga had been late to the meeting of his fellow communist members at the Addis Tavern of Mystery downtown. They would meet inside the tavern, talk about the problems Ethiopia faced, and would try and come up with solutions of how they would fix them for the betterment of Ethiopia. He had been busy with family problems early in the morning and could not be there at the regularly scheduled time. As he was walking he noticed a group of cars with Imperial Policemen go by, but thought nothing of it. As he arrived at the tavern three blocks away, he witnesses his fellow members were being arrested and the business they met in was being shut down by order of the Emperor. Bahta watched as the police shoved and pushed his friends into the back of the police vehicles to be taken off and soon turned around.

Bahta was not one to be messed with when it comes to a goal he wishes to achieve. Once he got home, he made some calls immediately to some of his other members that were unable to attend todays meeting to inform them of what happened. He then called a friend of his Adugna Armah, who has connections to all of the parties in Ethiopia on the telephone. "Hello?" Armah on the other end responded once he picked up, "Most of the people at the tavern have been arrested under Imperial Decree, I need to organize a meeting in Gambela, far away from the capital for secrecy. Get the members there as soon as you can." Armah was then acknowledged on the other end and the phone call ended. Bahta then began to pack him a bag for the trip to Gambela. In the newspapers around town, word spread of other gathering places being raided and members being arrested and held without proper charges. It was a Red Scare and the fire is just starting.

Çankaya Köşkü, Ankara, Republic of Turkey

January 10, 1950

A wisp of smoke rose from the ashtray atop a table next to a large, button backed chair located close to a fireplace in one of the many rooms in the Çankaya Köşkü Palace, the official residence of the President of the Republic of Turkey. Seated in the chair and reading a number of documents was the President himself, Mustafa İsmet İnönü.

İsmet had been in office since November 1938 and has, more or less, kept Turkey neutral during the Second World War. Although he had declared war on the Axis Powers in 1945, he didn't commit Turkish troops and thus, left the declaration of war more as a symbolic gesture to the Allies, primarily to placate the Soviets who had sunk numerous Turkish ships sending chromium to ports across the Black Sea. He had kept Turkey out of the war because, like many of those countries fighting, Turkey was war weary and reluctant to fight in a conflict that didn't affect them. Many Turks opposed joining the war altogether, especially one against a long time friend, Germany. Irrespective of whether or not the Turkish public could stomach a war, there were also issues to deal with domestically. The Turkish Armed Forces were undergoing a period of modernization and standardization. The Turkish Armed Forces had grown from 170,000 badly equipped and poorly led troops in 1938 to 850,000 well equipped troops by 1945, making it one of the largest militaries in the region. The army was now equipped with new German tanks and other armored vehicles, the air force equipped with the latest and battle tested fighter aircraft. The Navy, although the less modern of all the branches, still possessed several significantly sized surface ships including and could still pose a threat to any navy in the eastern Mediterranean. Kurdish rebels in the east as well as two sizable rebellions had also occurred prior to the Second World War, which İsmet dealt with swiftly and decisively.

But Turkey now found itself at the forefront of a new war, one that was ideological and one that was sure to put Turkey in a position that, as far as İsmet was concerned, he didn't want Turkey to be in. The civil war in neighboring Greece showed that communist movements were growing in the Balkans and were something to be concerned. Turkey also found itself bordered on two sides by communist states; the People's Republoc of Bulgaria in the west and the Soviet Union in the east. Although İsmet was in no way an anti-communist, he was concerned about the growing Soviet influence in the Balkans and the potential for the Soviets to attempt to exert influence over Turkey itself. In fact, Turkey was surprisingly similar in governance towards the Soviets. Both countries were single party states. Both could be described as "authoritarian" although Turkey was far more liberal in how it treated its citizens than the Soviets were. Both were secular. Both had vested interests in the Balkans. The question was how could Turkey maintain its good relationship with the Soviets and not succumb to Soviet pressure.

İsmet was also looking towards the West, especially to the United States and Britain. He was looking to modernize the Turkish military as well as seek British cooperation on solving intercommunal disputes on Cyprus, which had a significant Turkish population. At best, he was hoping that the Turkish population would have greater protections from nationalist Greeks in the Cypriot government and at worst, was hoping that their weakened and lack of a desire for war would allow the Turkish government to intervene militarily in Cyprus to secure the ethnic Turks living there. War in Cyprus was a gamble, but it was necessary in ensuring the protection of ethnic Turks on the island. The government also wanted to secure the protection of ethnic Turks in Greece and Bulgaria, as well as ethnic Turkish populations in the Balkans.

İsmet took a sip of coffee and continued reading the latest in a series of observation reports published by the National Security Service. Reports were mostly about movements of significant members of the Kurdish militants as well as reports that members of the Soviet embassy in Ankara were meeting with officials from the Communist Party of Turkey...

" The Iron Cross cannot be held by the Hammer...or the sickle."-Nationalist Insurgent

Dresden, East Germany: January 1st 1950

The Dresden police fought back, with sprays of gunfire, mostly in the form of SKS's, shotguns and pistol fire. The blitz assault was overwhelming however, it happened so fast and the police were not trained to deal with this. Screams were barley muffled by the chattering of SMG fire or pushed aside by the cracking of K98's. A few civilians inside the police station lay dead, blood staining the floors, police had also found a cold grave on the floor. Two more grenades were thrown into the building for good measure. Now the shock team finally entered, the front man, Kaur Hurst, fell face first, his head taken apart by a shotgun blast that was credited to one of the communist policeman. The man behind the breacher had taken some pellets but he would survive. Screams echoed and were quiet...then more as each room was swept through. The cells were opened and the armoury was bashed in. The criminals inside were released on their own will and fortune, the weapons quickly being scavenged from the arms room or looted off the bodies of their enemy. Almost as soon as the fight had started it was over. As the nationalists left the station they grabbed the keys to two police cars. Their truck had been destroyed but these vehicles may serve purpose, if only as a way to quickly escape. The sons of the fatherland torched the building on their way out, turning it into a roiling ball of fire and burning flesh.

As they drove away as fast as they could the adrenaline in their bodies began to slowly fade away, the sweat that patted their skin became cold. The former veterans stared coldly into the distance as the countryside became more and more dense, rolling by their eyes as the old films did. This was life under the iron curtain, but the only thing that would cut an iron curtain would be an iron cross.

The Fourth Five-Year Plan

Plan is law, fulfillment is duty, over-fulfillment is honor!

January 18, 1950

The Central Committee of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is proud to announce the continuation of the successful industrialization policy - the fourth Five-Year Plan! After the Great Patriotic War, the practice was suspended in order to let the nation recover, but no nation achieves anything by standing still!...

...Nikolai Bulganin, the General Secretary of the All-Union Communist Party has sent out an official statement: "By 1965, the Union will be the most advanced and the biggest heavy and light industrial producer on the planet"...

According to an official decreet issued by the All-Union Communist Party, here are the industrial sectors that the Fourth Five-Year Plan will focus on:

airplane manufacturing,
electric gear design,
electronics engineering and technological development,
improvements to educational infrastructure,
consumer vehicle and automobile manufacturing,
textile industry,
military vehicle manufacturing,
military equipment manufacturing and development,
consumer food industry,
military and civilian infrastructure,
and military technology infrastructure.

However, other areas are not to be left undeveloped...

...remember the slogan:

FIVE-YEAR PLAN - IN FOUR YEARS!

From: Foreign Ministry of the Soviet Union
To: Politburo of the Communist Party of Egypt

---

We gladly support this initiative. Should you need any military or diplomatic support in the case that the imperialist regime resists, be sure to inform us. Our Black Sea Fleet would be able to reach Alexandria in days, probably even less.

Good luck with your initiative.

Signed,
Nikita Khruschev, Foreign Minister of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union

We also managed to gain an alliance with the most powerful group with the Muslim Brotherhood (trust us, even though they're religiously conservative, they also can be very communist as possible, especially this Sayyid Qutb, who calls an Islamic jihad, against the Western world) , who will lead the revolution against the monarchy, and help gain correspondence with other Communists in the Arab world. We also hope that once we win, we; together with the Muslim Brotherhood, to gain economic assistance to defeat the illegal fascist state of Israel and help our fed'aiyin comrades, with the head of the group Palestinian Front for the Liberation Front, George Habash and other rebels to do it. The battlefield is changing, Comrade Kruschev and its happening in Africa and the Middle East.

We also managed to assist and host political refugees from Ethiopia, especially the Communists secretly, back into Egypt.

The streets were bustling with pride and decadence. At least, that's what the working class Egyptians view for the city, as they were on strike for the third day to demand equal pay, and complaining against the British bosses. It all started, when a worker rebelled against the British supervisors, complaining about the workers pay and unsafe work areas. The British supervisor had him fired in a worst possible and humiliating way. His fellow workers, tried to defend the fired worker, but were stopped by a Royalist Gaurd and a Scotland Yard sergeant. The next day, when heard of the death of the worker, the workers started forming a union, the Cotton Worker Union, but it was illegal. The Royalist army tried repressing the Union by coercion and high wages, but the Unionists shrugged it off, and headed back to their home or in the streets.

On the third day, word spread of the strike, and many Alexandrian workers and the poverty, in solidarity, begin protesting the monarchy and the British occupation on the coastal road, before they were stopped by the British Army riot police. The Commander of the riot police, John Smith, demanded the protestors to stop protestors. The protestors ignored the calls, and were just continuing as if they don't care. Then the inevitable happened, the British riot police begin firing live ammunition, killing 156, and injured 200.

The live firing outraged many of the Egyptian populace, and it caused riots and fires against foreign owned businesses, and it least the American and British embassies were scaled and vandalized.

Meanwhile, the Muslim Brotherhood started peaceful in solidarity demonstrations for the Unionists, before being violently repressed by the Royalist Guard.

The Muslim Brotherhood's leader, faced the sheer reality that peaceful resolution won't work, and a violent revolution would have to happen, as once predicted by the Brotherhood ideologue, Sayyid Qutb.

The Brotherhood and the Communists, used arms from the 1948 War in Palestine, are now used to seize control the the cities of Aswan and Khartoum, aided with sympathizers, and an expeditionary force sent by the Communists from Ethiopia.

A Revolution has started.

Chapter 1: Deutschland, Deutschland Über Alles

Bonn, West Germany

President Erwin Rommel straightened his tie and sighed. The East Germans had demanded the extradition of that Schäfer fellow, a terrorist attack was in Dresden, and, to top it all off, the Egyptians were in the middle of a Communist revolution. Backed by the Soviets, Rommel was sure. The Cabinet went bananas when they heard of the first problem, everyone yelling different opinions. Some wet-pantsed senators wanted to give in, to surrender Schäfer. Rommel had none of it.

He was a commander, first and foremost, and was used to making quick and rational decisions. He hated the long, painful debates of the Reichstag, or the bickering of the Cabinet. But he had to bear it, for it was the only way a democratic government could function. Today, however, he had made this decision on his own, and would announce it not only to the Cabinet, but to the Reichstag itself. Taking a deep breath, he walked up to the podium in front of the seats of the Reichstag, and spoke.

"Men and Women of the Reichstag, today we have a crisis. Herr Stephan Schäfer, a German from the other side of the Iron Curtain," he didn't use the phrase "East German" on purpose, as many members of the Reichstag still refused to acknowledge the Easterners, "has fled the dictatorial regime and has applied for political asylum in our great nation. Naturally, the Communists want him back.
"But we are, at heart, a democratic nation, who stands by our principles. The very principles of democracy and freedom this new Germany has been built from dictate that we must accept Herr Schäfer's political asylum request, for he is a refugee, and we must take such people in. Would we be better if we acquiesced to the enemies' will, letting them steam across the Iron Curtain and tear down everything we have worked so hard and so long to build from the ashes of a war-torn country? I conclude my point. Thank you."

Applause, some genuine, some merely polite, thundered as Rommel walked off the stage. Erwin Rommel, as he walked towards his office, could only hope that the threats of East German retaliation was only hot air.

The Iron Curtain, Near the East-West German Border

Feldwebel Erik Buchman squinted into the distance from the top of his Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. H as it rolled across the West German countryside. To his right was Feldwebel Rutter's Panzer IV H, to his left, the platoon's command vehicle, another IV, this one an Ausf. J, and the last member, an old Ausf. G, bringing up the flank. The quick chatter of the radio squawked into Buchman's headset.

"Platoon, halt!" That was the voice of Oberleutnant Leiber, a cynical veteran of the Eastern Front of WW2. With a shudder, the platoon ground to a halt just below a grassy knoll. "Alright, Platoon! We are officially on high alert! The Communists could come across the border any minute now, so we are stepping up patrols! Prepare your guns to fire at a second's notice! Move, Schnell!"

Within 30 seconds, the platoon was fully loaded and ready for war. "Commanders, watch for any suspicious movement. Move up!"

With a mighty roar, the Panzer IVs resumed their patrol.

Stuttgart, West Germany

Ferdinand Porsche sipped from his cup of coffee as he read the newspaper. Crisis in Egypt- Communists again. Porsche didn't really care. At his age, nothing really mattered. It was only a matter of time before-
"Father, Father!" yelled Porsche's son, Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche, Jr., as he stormed into the room. Calmly putting his coffee cup down, he asked, "What is it, Ferry? Is it about the company?" After WW2 and most of his company's arms deals rendered worthless, his company (unimaginatively named "Porsche"), had struggled to find it's footing. He half-halfheartedly hoped he could revive it, but he knew he would die before Porsche became successful again.
"Yes, Father! A message, straight from the Ministry of Defense!" That got the older Porsche's attention. The Ministry of Defense? What did they want with him? "What is the message about? Spit it out, Ferry!"
"They want us to make another tank... it's requirements are a long shot from the Tiger's- For instance, low-profile, heavily-sloped armor, more than a 88mm gun- but still doable. This could be the silver bullet! This could save our company!"
"Indeed, Ferry! It just might. But is there anything else?"
"Well, it says that an identical message has been sent to MAN AG, Henschel, and Krupp, among others. They say to expect competition."
Ferdinand Porsche, Sr., took a deep breath, stood up, and simply replied, "What are we waiting for? Let's do it!"

Honorable President Wilhelm Pieck of the DDR-

With all respect intended, we cannot, in good conscience, agree with your request. Herr Schäfer is legally a refugee, and has applied and been accepted for political asylum. Any further meddling in his affairs is highly illegal. We apologize sincerely for any adversity this disagreement may have caused between us.

Wilhelm looked at this paper. He thought, "Oh look. Rommel relied to me. Guess I can't move my men across the border to go return Schäfer." He read the part about Schäfer requesting political asylum. "What? Lies. According to my records Schäfer never applied for asylum here." He re-read that part. "Oh. That makes much more sense. But I can't believe this Schäfer fellow applied for asylum. This will make things much harder. Welp, I guess I need to call the Soviets and tell them West Germany is ready for a war." He walked to his telegram, sending a message to the commanders along the Iron Curtain.

West Germany has increased the number of forces on their side of our border. They have also increased alertness, and are ready to fire at a moment's notice. Each commanding officer is to mobilize all forces along their section of the border and remain on constant alert. We will shift 3 Panzerregiments to the border when the Dresden revolt is put down. Stay on constant alert for new orders, and until further notice, there is to be no drinking and a 24-hour watch. Thank you.

We urgently require assistance from the Soviet Union. West Germany has begun to mobilize forces alongside it's border, and the military presence has increased much more.I believe that there may be a war if Soviet forces don't arrive to reinforce our borders. Please help and stop the bourgeois from attacking us.

Iron Curtain.
Fredrick walked next to the chain of barbed wire. He was armed with a AK-47 and a few magazine clips, along with some grenades to his name. His group, 35 men and 2 T-34 tanks, were traveling across the border near a concentration of enemy troops. They were officially there to patrol, but in reality, they were also trying of gain as much information of the Western German force on the other side. A good educated guess is the key to plan a possible defense. And offense, if needed also. He was looking at some enemy troops, seeing if he could guess how far away they were. He also looked for any weak spots in the western border.

Abdeen Palace, Cairo, Egypt
January 21st, 1950

Image

The King Farouk was outside his palace, dressed in his Royalist military robes was outside in a podium about to begin his speech. Judging the look on the Egypt, he seems on edge, but detected a hint of exhaustion. After all, its not everyday that the rebels seized every city and village easily, the people are cheering on the rebels, and the Royal Egyptian Army were surrendering or even defecting to the rebels. The current death count is 300 or more, depending on how much willing the Royalist Army were defecting, but the civilian count is even higher, with around 1300 or more.

"To all of the subjects of the Kingdom, please don't despair for that we are willing to-"
The King's voice is currently is cut off, with a shocked expression on his face, and his chest filled with blood, as a sniper shot him, mostly likely from the MB Security Apparatus. The assassin is then hauled off the area by the Palace Guard before the extended guards, all commies and the Security Apparatuses personnel in disguise overpower the Palace Guards in a shoot out that left 3 people dead.

As one of the armed man asked the guard for the microphone, the Security Apparatuses and the Communists were securing the palace, shocked at the decadence of the palace and captured all of the family members of the deceased Farouk.

"To all of the subjects of a free land, please don't despair, for now, the city is in under control, and we are free from the influence of the Grits. Though blood is shed, the freedom is coming for your children in your devotion to the Revolution is coming, and patience with Allah's will. For now, the city is under martial law, no embassies are to be attacked, no business are to be ransacked, and no foreigners are to be dead. All of the rest of the crisis is to be dealt with peace. Otherwise, please go to sleep or go celebrate the end of the Revolution."

The airwaves, broadcasted joys and elation over the end of the revolution, and the wait for Hassan Al-Banna to arrive.

The news revealed to the capitalist world are: "The Red plague has claimed another victim"

OOC: This isn't godmod, because remember, the MB Security Apparatus personnel infiltrated the monarchy since WWII, and rather use revolution at the time WWII, the MB felt the time at a new month of a new decade should happen, to symbolize a new dawn, anyway continuing with the RP.

Aswan Radio Station, Speech of Hassan al-Banna

My fellow countrymen,

We are free from the Imperial domination of both inequality and despair.
Now the despairing and misery under the King.
And now our Muslim brothers in the rest of the Muslim countries will finally rise above their masters, and retain the dignity long denied from imperial powers.
We are living under a free Egypt, for now, as the neighboring and fascist state of Israel and her dog America will wait for a perfect to go to our shores, and slaughter our people once again.
I resolve to never let these nightmares in any way I can, under Allah's will, to overcome our masters.
Our work isn't done, because as one of the Western intellects remarks, "In time of peace, prepare for war".
To do it, we must enhance our defenses to become the largest force in Africa and have the ability to invade a state with capabilities like fascist Israel.
But for now, it is time to fix up Egypt, because in order to help other people, we must help ourselves, with a mix of capitalism and socialism, with what I call state
capitalism, then democracy with Islamic characteristics.
That is all for what the nation is going to head in for the future, and we will face mistakes, but it is worth it for success, whatever it takes with our Communist friends.

Your first President of Egypt, Hassan al-Banna

Beijing, China
President Li Zongren had a lot on his hands. He was in charge of the second most powerful nation in Asia, as well as a contender for power on the international scale. It's economy was one of the largest, brining in hundreds of thousands of investors. It was expected to grow fast. The military was well sized and well equipped, ready to fend off any and all enemies.
But not all was fine and dandy as many would hope. No, China still had much to worry about. The most important issue was the Soviet Union. They shared an extremely long border from Manchuria in the northeast over to Uyghustan in the west. Then their was India. China had taken Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh from India in the aftermath of the Kashmir war. This had, of course, stained relations with India, whom had the second largest population. And they still claimed both Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. This worried many that yet another war may break out. Another issue was the mongol socialists whom wanted to break Mongolia from Chinese hands and create a socialist state aligned with the soviets. The soviets were heavily suspected of arming these rebels. Also there was a monarchist movement that had support from Manchuria all the way down to areas in southern china.
These Li had to fix and worry about. But he had plans to fix this over the years of his leadership. After all, he was only just getting started

OOC: will add more, off to school.

Assistance will be provided as soon as possible. We too see the actions by the German "Reich" and their neo-Fascist leadership as a threat to socialism in Central and Eastern Europe. In fact, the Dresden revolt and their actions at the Iron Curtain are an obvious attempt to get reasonong for a declaration of war.

The Soviet leadership - the highest people of the All-Union Communist Party - have met yesterday in a special meeting for asserting the situation. We all unitedly agree that intervention is deemed necessary. Expect naval military support immediately, and should matters get worse, land and air support as well.

Signed, Nikita Khruschev

Surely, as a veteran of the Hitlerite regime, you remember the last time that your nation tried to attack us or our allies?

Rio de Jainero, Brazil, Brazilian Empire
The Brazilian government has been supporting various fascist organizations and fascist nations like Spain, because Brazil is fascist itself. With control over Uruguay, Paraguay and a part of Peru called the Loreto Region, Brazil is expected to become a fascist superpower to challenge both USA and USSR. However, Paraguayans, Uruguayans, Peruvians, Santaguayans (Spanish-speaking people from Amapa, formerly Spanish colony of Santaguay) and Amazonian tribes are revolting against the supremacist Brazilians. Rio de Jainero, with the statue of Jesus Christ, was the world's best vacation spot for it's beaches and hot weather. It is also Brazil's capital.

Montevideo, Uruguay, Brazilian Empire
The Brazilian government has been cracking down on Uruguayan propaganda and independence struggle since the 30s. Montevideo was pretty violent and dangerous for foreigners. Tourists there are escorted by Brazilian troops armed with StG44s.

The patrol had reached the end of it's destination, a group of houses built alongside the border where officers could live and sleep. On the other side of the road, facing away from the border, was a motorpool with a few trucks and a couple of T-34's ready for service at any moment. It also came with a small shack where radio equipment was stored and used.

A man walked to the nearest officer he could find, saluting him before reporting that a few regiments were being sent to the Curtain. "Sir, We've received news. Straight from high command." The officer asked the soldier to follow him inside to the shack. After entering, they closed the door, and the officer said "What is it? The situation is very tense now, I don't have time for politics." The soldier replied "Straight from the Head of State himself." He handed a note to the officer that said this:

Friends, Germans, Countrymen; Herr Rommel needs you! Join the VdM! ~Recruitment Poster

VdM Headquarters, Hannover
0522 Hours; slightly cloudy, 14 degrees Celsius

As the city of Hannover awoke from a night's slumber, the VdM leadership was gathered around a round coffee table, the windows and balcony venetian blinds opened wide, a single light hanging from the ceiling. At the table was a large map of Germany, and the relative troop positions of different Militia units stationed along the Iron Curtain. A small electric fan was spinning in the corner, with the flag of the VdM hanging on the wall behind them. Intelligence had shown that a few East German units were being mobilized towards the border, and the Militia was being put on high alert should the East Germans attack.
A Hamlet east of Wolfsberg, 1.5 kilometers away from the Iron Curtain
0840 Hours; misty, 9 degrees Celsius

The jeep was sitting behind a cement block, at one of the many Volksarmee der Freiheit (VdF) checkpoints along the Iron Curtain. Manned by 21 VdF militiamen and 3 local policemen, who were huddled around a small fire, the Hamlet went around its usual work in the fields and barns, as if an Iron Curtain wasn't to their East. The ground was covered in a shallow mat of snow, and the men were listening to the radio, weapons in arms reach.

All of a sudden, an Opel Blitz turned the corner behind the checkpoint and stopped at the side of the road. A VdF officer jumped out, saluted, and walked over to Captain George Manheim, who stood at attention.

"Kapitan Manheim, we have... reports of movement across the border. Hence, as a precaution, the VdM command is handing out extra ammunition, weapons and barbed wire to all militia positions. I am also here to tell you that you have 5 new members under your command." Behind the Officer, 5 young men jumped off the truck, offloading the cases of ammunition and equipment off the truck. The cases were laid at the side of the road, and the panting men came up to the Officer to report that the work had been done. The Officer stiffened, and saluted, "Long live Germany."

The Opel was out of sight within minutes. The militiamen got to work unpacking the cases, distributing the ammunition, a few men working on improving the barbed wire and sandbag defences, some going door to door to ask for tools. The MG-42 on the Jeep remained silent for the rest of the morning.

The Dominion of Canada
Parliament Hill, Ottawa

Prime Minister Louis Saint Laurent of Canada sat at the head of the table in the Cabinet Room of Parliament Hill. Around the oval surface sat the member of the Canadian Cabinet, a confused mixture of French Canadians, Irish Canadians and English Canadians. Saint Laurent himself was Franco-Irish Canadian, born in Quebec City but fluently bilingual - a necessary asset for the Prime Minister of the ethnic and lingual mess that was Canada.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," he began, speaking in English for the benefit of most of the Liberal Cabinet. "The world has entered its one-thousand nine-hundredth and fiftieth year since the time of Christ. In this uncertain world, just five years from the end of the greatest conflict ever known, we face a choice that will determine the future course of Canada, North America, and indeed, perhaps the world."

Several of the Cabinet members glanced at each other - all knew of the influence of outside powers on the Canadian nation and its people. Too weak to assert itself as a major power alone, Canada was ever forced to side with whichever foreign countries provided the best deal.

"I speak this too you in utmost secrecy. If word of our discussion here ever gets out to the media, we may be discredited and mistrusted the world over." The Prime Minister paused to collect his thoughts.

"The choice that lies before us is one of geopolitics, loyalty, and sovereignty. I speak of our choice between the United Kingdom, and the United States."

There was an audible murmur of worry and discontent amongst the Cabinet, but none yet spoke out loud. Saint Laurent received several half-glances, some agreeable, other with furrowed brows and down turned mouths.

"For our entire existence, we have been first a territory, and then a close ally of the British. Rarely has this negatively affected Canada. Today we are secure as a Dominion under His Majesty in London - the British will side with us against threats outside the Empire, if we support them if their own endeavours.

On the other hand, the United States has attempted several times to occupy us and integrate us into their Union through military force - and ever have the British come to our rescue. But the winds of change are already blowing across the world. The African colonies are in unrest, and too expensive for the British to maintain. India has seceded. The other Dominions, in Australia particularly, murmurs of independence and intrigue are growing in strength.

Thus I have called you all here today, to discuss what Canada's course will be in the world - if we accept being drawn into the political, economic and cultural orbit of the Americans, or if we stay loyal to the King and the Mother Country, despite her loss of power and influence. What say you?"

Mohammed Mossadegh paced around his office. In front of him was a huge world map.

"Um, sir, there is heightened tensions in Germany between the West and the USSR" his advisor says, rushing into the office.
"Good. I have to think about this one."

The advisor walked off, and Mohammed sits down at his desk, with a tough choice. The West or the USSR? He didn't know. If he supported the West in this soon-to-be war, the Soviets would take over Iran. Newly free Iran. But if he did support them, Britain may invade again. Not likely, however.

"I think I'll stay neutral... for now" he says outloud. No, he has better things to do than this. He walks over to his desk, and brushes off the papers. He needs to begin his letter.
