The Forgotten Planet (OOC/Open)

Postby Marsisian » Tue Aug 04, 2015 7:11 pm

IC

Background

In the early 2000s, astronomers made a major breakthrough in human history with the discovery of the Sigma Aquaria system south of Alpha Centauri. Within the planet was a habitable planet approximately 30 percent larger than Earth, Nova Prime. It was a massively important discovery that completely changed the landscape of astronomy. In 2029, the first warp drive was invented by scientists working for the US government. The drive quickly became one of humanity's greatest inventions, speeding up colonization of the stars by decades and allowing for quick travel to and from Earth to other star systems.

In 2036, the first colony on Nova Prime was founded by the United States. By 2090, the population grew to at least 60 million people. In that same year, rising global tensions over multiple international disputes grew to become a global war. The war escalated with the use of nuclear weapons, devastating the Earth's surface. The war resulted in the complete collapse of all nations involved in the war and killed billions of people. On Nova, the realization that they were truly alone, left to stand on their own two feet caused the collapse of order only stopped with the formation of new nations days after the nuclear war. These new nations were, more often than not, were in conflict with each other.

Information

The planet Nova is much like Earth in most respects. Water makes up a large portion of the planet, and fish is a staple food for many. Unsurprisingly, the planet sits on a treasure trove of resources which was one of the reasons for heavy human colonization prior to the nuclear war. Nova Prime is also 30% bigger than Earth.

Nations

There will be six permanent factions who will be the most powerful on the planet and those who can exert influence on a global scale.

The New North American Union was founded a week after the nuclear detonations by former UNAR Colonial Administrator James Franklin. Franklin, a hardcore anti-communist at heart, reacted with hostility to the formation of the rival Peasants' Republic and New Reich, going so far as to invade the two aforementioned nations a month after the nuclear war. The NNA follows an extreme, dictatorial version of McCarthyism and capitalism.

The Peasants' Republic is a Stalinist dictatorship on the planet Nova. It was founded 6 days after the nuclear war by notorious terrorist Andrei Kostov. The PR regularly commits human rights violations, heavily taxes its own citizens, and ironically oppresses the peasantry. Militarily, their strategy is little more than to capitalize on their manpower advantage by using mass human wave assaults.

Peasant Infantry

T-55M-A90 Main Battle Tank

The New Reich is an imperialist monarchy going back to the days of the German Empire. The NR was founded 4 days into the war by Hohenzollern noble Rudolf, with a Fascist-leaning Prime Minister. Technology is held in high regard by the Reich and minorities aren't oppressed as much compared to the PR and NNA. However, it is ridiculously imperialist and militarist that it seems like a military dictatorship to many.

New Reich Infantry

The Grand Church is a powerful organization formed from the fleeing Christian churches on Earth. They quickly settled their differences and formed a new, united church to secure their independence. The Church became a major player in post-war Nova Prime.

The Pirates are just what they are, Pirates. They were originally many different pirate and anarchist groups but soon joined together in a loose confederation of pirate groups as a measure to ensure their survival. In doing so, they also merged with anarchist groups as they both had similar goals and intentions.

The Native Empire was formed from a man who took power in an area of Nova Prime with the aid of influential local families who had been there since the first colonization of the planet. They became the Royal houses of the Empire. The Crowns aren't really taken seriously by the bigger three factions who view them only as a humorous sideshow to the real war in the middle continent.

You literally have to bring up the one thing from the Star Wars universe I'm unfamiliar with, really?

It could be a valuable resource that people would fight over.

Kaiser Wiley's Empire shall return, be not on Earth :P
Also, do weapons still fire normal bullets or are we in the laser and plasma era?

I'd say it would be a naturally occurring mix of Water and New Elements. Maybe it only makes up .001% of the planet's water supply. And most of it frozen at the poles or underground.

You can't really reserve it, this isn't an RP. This is worldbuilding.

Weapons still fire bullets, it's not even 2100 yet.

I thought this would be more Fallout-ish with normal guns being the norm but Laser somewhat common and plasma extremely rare.

Lasers could be common, but only in former colonial weapons stockpiles. Plasma would be even rarer to find.

Yeah. The former religious churches from Earth could fulfill that.

But what about Rudolf from the New Reich, would he not be an Evangelical (seeing as his Something Great Grand father, Friedrich Wilhelm III united Lutheranism and Calvinist into Evangelicalism in Prussia?)
