A Tear Into Nothing

Postby Prumia » Sat Aug 01, 2015 7:39 pm

A tear formed; like the claw marks of a beast that had not yet come to be, a cut appeared in the very void of nothingness that was. Reaching out from the empty depths of that void was a solid white hand; not pale, but merely white. A negative against the blackness of nothing the surrounded it.

Following the white hand was a body to match as equally devoid of life and form. A blank shell in the vaguest notion of the not-yet-made-human male, but undefinable in feature. At least, it was -- like the shattering of glass on stone and like a ripple on water, the mirage faded and gave way to a new visage: the form rippled, changing into a styled waist-coat, his hands and the sleeves of his coat turning black, the head turning to a marred face with dark cracks. With a sound like rushing water, the form of a black blade also appeared in his left hand as his right swept his disheveled hair back.

Smiling at the emptiness around him, the first being to appear in this nothingness offered a short bow as his right hand came to rest across his chest. "Begging your pardon," the being spoke in soft yet echoing tones; seemingly to nothing. "We were kept by idle hands and empty minds." He tilted his head, seemingly in response to something. Suddenly, his white lips stretched into a maw that revealed that the void of white on the outside was matched only by the void of black on the inside. "Our name is Mendacium Deceptio, the
Lord of Falsehoods, Illusions, Aspirations, and... Adversity."

He spoke... to nothing because nothing is all there was. The void around him was barren of color and life; the black emptiness around had no worlds, no stars, no color, no time, no laws. There was nothing...

Yet...

"Our power has reached across the void between the worlds and dimensions," whispered the Lord of the Intangible. "And found this barren scape. Do We weep, or rejoice?" Mendacium Deceptio's powers allowed him to reach out and touch the multitude of realms untouched and unknowable by the other gods; to connect to the intangible nothing of this plain of emptiness.

His blacks hands spread out at his sides as his white shoulders shrugged. "We feel ache at this emptiness that cannot know Our blessings," he sighed, his voice an echoing whisper. "What can nothingness know of the false hope of Illusions? Of the blind truths of Falsehoods? Of grasping dreams of Aspirations? Of the struggle against Adversity?"

"We weep for this emptiness," spoke the Lord of the Lord of Falsehoods, Illusions, Aspirations, and Adversity. "And call to the others."
Reaching out his hand, the Lord of the Intangible jabbed a finger into the void around him and pulled. The emptiness gave a sharp tug
as ripples formed between this world and the others.

...And the being known as Mendacium Deceptio smiled as he felt the other gods answer his call; he could already feel the others moving across the void of the In-Between and coming to this world of nothing. Turning to greet the concert of gods he knew to be coming, his eyes flashed a striking shade of azure blue as he said, "How may Our will shape reality?"

O.O.C.:

His was a work that was truly never finished. Everything in the world has an opposite, an equalizer that serves to keep the balance of a very fragile world just perfect. For every thunderstorm, an inferno was born to burn wild. For every day, night would eventually come. And Gaeyn-Avalga preferred to think of himself as existence's greatest equalizer. For every child born a life must be extinguished, for every new arrival someone must depart. A new face entered the world, and a familiar one left this plane for a world beyond the laws and restrictions of their physical plane. So long as there was life, there would be a place for him. Gaeyn-Avalga, Death's face, Rider of the In-Between. The guide of souls was and would be for all the time tha souls roamed the land, just waiting for their time. They entered his world shaking and afraid, and he with a steady hand guided him to their final destination - or the highest bidder. Whichever he found preferable.

A sound akin to thunder was heard echoing throughout this great darkness of the void, the rolling, powerful rumbling challenged by no other noise, the barren plane was yet to know the chirping of birds or the cracking of lightning. It only knew the voice of the one arrived before, and the or arriving soon. A man leaned low over the back of his steed, galloping at speeds beyond the comprehension of man towards a...call. Something drew him to this, enticing enough for him to be happily obliged to answer it. A great opportunity to afford him a deal of power he was always willing to chase, be it between worlds or between dimensions. It was the only thing that mattered.

Through the same great year from which emerged the Lord of Falsehoods, the thunderous hooves of the great steed Jarahan burst into the nothingness, black as the void that this place was. It's rider, though not physically imposing, carried himself with the confidence one would be expected to possess when he was what every mortal man feared. Each entry into the afterlife was known to him. He took pride in that nothing escaped hi notice. He gazed down upon the Lord of Falsehood with a surprisingly warm smile for the one known to be the Keeper of the Dead. "I weep only that this place knows no life for death to embrace." Gaeyn said, carefully maneuvering his horse about this emptiness. The darkness was suffocating.

Now now now.. No need to be so selfish. How about we strike a deal to share the burden with us hmmm?

Slowly a blue light shined in the vast emptiness of the void as three beings stepped out. Their form was humanoid but that was the only similarity. The beings were blue and had numbers and symbols running and crossing down their bodies. They stepped in unison, with two falling in line directly behind the first. Kaimed The Merchant had shown themselves after eons of nothingness.

With a quick glance down they looked up and spoke in unison. Oh no.. This will simply not do.., as they spoke the leader snapped his fingers and the beings all took on the form of suited men, with strange masks on their heads hiding their face to the rest of the universe. With that they moved over to this white figure. These were the beings who would shape reality after every deal and were willing to find anyway they could to strike one up.

Lord of the Lord of Falsehoods, Illusions, Aspirations, and Adversity hm? Well met... I am Kaimed. The Ethereal Banker, master of exchange, tribute and sacrifice. Now... What exactly did you have in mind for this particular sect of reality hm?

As he was loitering about, hinking of new ways to play with mortals, ever bored as he was, Valerius heard a voice calling out to him. Interested as to whom or what could be calling out to him, he mustered all the power he had and opened a portal to where the voice was calling him from strangely, he saw nothing on the other side, and his curiosity only grew as he went through the portal. Appearing suddenly out of nothingness came forth Valerius, taking on the form of dense mist with a single eye emerging from it. After a brief moment his eye turned to Mendacium and a deep voice emerged from the mist saying "We have heard your call, and have come to greet you. We are known as Valerius, and whom praytell, are you?"

The Lord of the Intangible smiled widely and offered the gods assembling around him a short bow as he crossed his black hand over his white chest. "Greetings," his whisper was like sharp echo. "We are Mendacium Deceptio, the Lord of Illusions, Falsehoods, Aspirations, and Adversity."

His eyes flashed a brilliant shade of azure as they met each of those before him and he spoke, "We have called you here, to this realm of nothing, to make an offer." Spreading his arms wide, he added, "We give you nothing! Nothing; a blank canvas to paint in any color you wish. To raise in grandeur or spite in hatred. To paint in beauty or mar in decay. We give you choice. Can there be a greater gift?"

Kaimed stood there motionless and thought hard. They would need help from others which was always tedious yet, they came to the realization that no one could make something as complex as the cosmos on their own. At least without having a few more... tricks up their sleeve.

A short, distinct laughter could be heard as Valerius responded "I was right to awnser this call, truly you have caught my attention. Very well, though I must admit I have never done anything quite like this, it seems like it could entertain me for a while, at the very least." As he finished speaking he began looking at the other gods, seemingly sizing them up.

"We give you choice. Can there be a greater gift?"

Through another tear in the ethereal darkness, a figure swam into the nothingness. Bursting into the new realm, chasing the source of the call, He emerged arms spread before Him.

"There could be no greater gift, nor greater sorrow," spoke Ba'al Naḫāšu, Ba'al (Lord) of Fertility as he emerged into the nothingness along with the other God's.He had the appearance of a merman: from the waist up, he was a tanned man, luscious beard swaying in the darkness, from the waist down, a large fish, his green scales indiscernable in the ceaseless darkness.

The nothingness both pleased and disgusted him, for within its expanse held infinite possibilities, though there existed none. The deafening silence made him uneasy, the lack of anything, sick.

The Lord of Fertility, the Lord of the Bountiful, looked unto the massive darkness before and sighed deeply. He stood silently, observing, thinking, pondering the infinite possibilities for creation among the nothingness. Millions of thoughts raced through his mind, all bearing solutions for the sickening lack of anything before him. He stroked his beard, as black as the nothingness which it now inhabited, and swayed his long tail from side to side.

"It's easy to attack and destroy an act of creation. It's a lot more difficult to perform one," He spoke aloud.

Through the tear in the void a thick, black smoke bellowed through. There was an intelligence to it as it streamlined around each of those present. Condensing, it took on a humanoid form with long black hair and long black wings, maliciousness in the eyes of the being. In his eyes, one would be able to see flashes of inspiration as new creatures came to his mind. This was Teras, the Lord of Monsters, who had answered the call of the Gods. Looking at those present, he smiled.

"What an interesting group of brothers and sisters." he said simply, looking at each one individually, an idea for a monster coming to mind with each glance, "This will be quite an interesting realm."

The Lord of Monsters looked around, knowing he would be of little use until mortals were created, then his corruption shall begin. He already decided on his first monster for this realm, the simple Ghost, a soul lost between this world and the afterlife. It was such a simple being with so many possibilities! One ghost could become any number of things, and this randomness was what made them so exciting.

Of course, he was getting ahead of himself.

"I look forward to working with you all," he said with a wink.

The Deity of Change responded to the new face, It did not move however. Hoagg-rsh simply spoke:

"That is true, Lord of Bounty. Creation requires great sacrifice. But the mere act of producing something from nothing is rewarding beyond any sort of gift that can be given. This blackness of potential disturbs me, as it does you, I believe. But we have no foes, no who would wish to see this void remain. I suggest that we - the Gods of Change and Bounty - begin this new universe. All other talk simply stalls the inevitable.

In the endless, dark abyss that was the void of nothingness, there was a group of what would soon become known as gods, and there was something else. Something different. If there had been more light, and something to cast a shadow upon, its shadow would be immense. Its massive body drifted about in the infinite blank space of the universe, dormant.

But what was this?

The eyes of the beast opened, a greenish light radiating from them. It reared its head, looking toward something that was rather unusual.

Something was there.

As the beast looked onward, it saw light, and a gathering of other beings. The beast began moving its massive body, re-awakening its muscles. It flexed its limbs, then its wings. With a gigantic flap, the wings propelled the beast onward, toward the gathering. Its glowing green eyes staring straight at them. It looked rather determined, in the face, if such a thing was even possible. During transit, it began absorbing their languages, as it would ultimately need such knowledge.

It finally arrived at their location.

"What are you?" It said to them in its incredibly deep voice. When it spoke, it sounded as if its voice going through bubbles.
Could you please take a look?

He felt like he had already wandered through every possible path, helping guide those poor lost people to the safety of a home. This time, though, he was attending to a different call. The road before him ended abruptly, giving place to a gap, and beyond it, something as dark as a starless, moonless night. Narrowing his eyes, he looked through it suspiciously, the light that emanated from the tip of his staff seemingly being the only one there was. After hesitating for a moment, he took a step forth - but there was nothing to step upon. As he looked around, he was filled with unrest and disgust - there was simply nothing, and it was home to more nothing. He kept moving forward, as small figures seemed to gather in the distance. Slowly, they became bigger, and soon, distinguishable. They were as he.

"I tend to be called by people who believe to be in the middle of nowhere... though this time, we surprisingly are in the actual middle of nowhere!", said Erdan, the God of Home and Community - among other things -, offering the other gods a warm smile. His eyes seemed to dance as they shifted from one god to the other. "We seem to have a very diverse gathering here. Surely everyone will have their own unique contribution to this creation. A new place to call... home, perhaps." His eyes drifted towards Hoagg-rsh as he rolled up the sleeves of his flowing grey robes. "And you seem to be the one to make, out of this nothingness, something we may put our hands on."

Mendacium Deceptio watched the short exchange between gods with muted interest, but when Change spoke, he found himself smirking. At once, his form shattered -- the body splitting apart like broken glass that dissolved into the nothingness around them.

At the side of the God of Change, another tear formed and the Lord of Illusions appeared at its center. "It is best not to rest to highly on your laurels, Holey One," he said in tones of echo. The Lord of Adversity added, "We feel the influence of gods not yet come. They slither in the In-Between, seeking this place. Our call sounded far beyond this nothingness."

The Lord of Aspirations turned to greet the new-comer. "Did We speak in warning or prophecy, We wonder. Tell Us, Large One; do We behold a Saint of Virtue or, perchance, a Harbinger of Vengeance?" The Lord of Falsehoods smiled, already knowing the answer.

The Black Cave - Realm of Dis

Darkness. There was only darkness.

Darkness and the quiet whisper of water, dripping ever so slowly down into pools of its own making.

This is the Black Cave, a bastion of isolation deep within the bleached land of Dis, made of a ragged gouge into the lone mountain in all the realm. Within it there is no light, for it is not allowed; the light is a disrupting force to crushing despair the darkness can bring, to the pain crawling blind on sharp and jagged rock can induce. The light here would bring safety and hope, in the land of Dis, such things do not exist, nor shall they ever. No, instead, the cave is black as the deepest night, hidden eternally from all but its creators eyes, the dark god Dis himself. In this blindness there is too anxiety and fear, for the cave is many things, but not silent. The dripping water must be remembered, and indeed would be, if any other than Dis had ever entered the secluded hole. For that water brings with it the unknown, the most dangerous and delectable of fears, bringing with it the children of hopelessness and misery. Though, if one was to venture into the absolute darkness of the cave, and was able to reach the dripping pools of water, what they would find would bring its own terror.

At the heart of the Black Cave, in its final chamber, lies three things. The first being a great statue, carved into the rock, grotesque and pained. Jutting from the caves wall is a twin headed humanoid, protruding at the waist, and so lacking a torso. The torso was fairly human, though save for the two extra arms on both sides, which clung to large spherical basins, their hands appearing to desperately claw into the rock. As one traveled up the statues body, they would reach the two heads, splitting off at the neck, and both extending unnaturally to the left and right, then sticking out forward, over the two basins on their respective sides. On the right, the face was joyous, with a wide grin and bulging eyes, the corners of the smile extending to the pointed ears on its angular face. The face on the left was its polar opposite, carved into an anguished appearance, as if all the happiness in the world were dead, with stretched, drooping eyes, and bulbous round chin. Both heads were bold and from their eyes flowed tears, each one at a time, heading into the basins. This was the function of the statue, to cry. For each tears was representative of a force of balance in the struggle between despair and pleasure. Eledar had forced Dis to accept the peace, so as to ensure that he kept his despair in check.

Now comes the second thing, and this is much more simple. It is a simple stack of rocks, formed into a tower shape. While appearing precarious, the rocks are totally immobile, and form a perfect perch for the third and final oddity of the cave: Dis. The God of Despair, looking much like a spider creature, and carrying a black iron staff and lantern with him at all times in two of his six arms, he is often seated at the top of the rock tower, basking in the environment, listening to every drip and imagining the tears symbolized by the left face. Currently he was in the cave, deathly still as always, simply listening to the drips as the time went by in his land.

He had been sitting for what would seem like weeks to mankind in the one position, noting every drip, and that they always equaled out, when suddenly something stirred him.

Drip. It was a striking thing, so surprising that he had to make sure he wasn't mad. His head cooked silently and he craned his neck to point his ear to the statue. Seconds passed, with a regular drip, when suddenly, again it happened. Drip, drip, drip. Three times! Three times. It was unfathomable. Since the statues creation it has never done this, and now here it is, doing it three times. The statue was crying wrong. It wasn't balanced, and Dis, was shocked. Well, he was shocked for Dis, which to most wasn't even noticeable, least of all because his face is hidden behind a mask. So he moved, his body silently crawling towards the statue to observe the irregular drip of water, when he felt it. A disturbance. A minor wave of heavenly energy, bleeding through the space between this dimension and another. Someone was plucking at the edges of his Universe and ever so gently disrupting the flow of despair in the world of mortals.

He blinked.

The New Dimension

Lord Dis now found himself in some great abyss, surrounded by nothingness. The ineptitude of language to describe his current placement, where space, time, and existence itself are absent made him inwardly chuckle. The words of the caller then flooded his brain, and he took note of the message. He had arrived a short distance away from the other spectators, also come to gawk at the pale God who had gathered them. His staff rested on the emptiness of the space, currently free of any reality or physics with which to define possibility. Four of his arms crossed in pairs, while his highest right hand stroked the chin of his mask in contemplation. His free left hand then rubbed together its fingers as if feeling something in the empty. The eyes visible on his face looked over at the God's in consternation.

Such a gathering of entities, each so precisely divided in their dominions, now gathered together. Such a recipe will no doubt spark nothing more than uncertainty and pedantry. Conflict over the role of highest construct and divination as creation takes it form. His eyes then shifted deftly to the God of phantasm. They locked on curiously at the being. And by what considerations does this one make this move. Falsity establishing unity? Such things are possible, yet under what circumstances does he hope to gain an advantage in this scenario? Such questions should not vex a deity, yet this one has inspired them. The other divine though. They seem to suckle at his teat. Perhaps the illusion is so great as to even cloud godliness.

Dis then propelled himself forward, still perched unmoving atop his staff, hovering forward purely by the imagined rules of this universe at present. As he approached the present assemblage of God's before him, he spoke to this, Mendacium Deceptio. His voice spoke loudly, projecting across the emptiness of the void. As the words slipped from his tongue, they sounded like the last echo's of a voice in the deepest, darkest cave, carrying with it the essence of isolation in perfect blackness.

"And tell us, God of Falsehoods, what is your stake in this creation? Why summon us here? Surely as all divines present here, you are birthed from another realm, no doubt with your own following, a flock of worshipers or subjects to rule. What is it that you seek? I feel I must express my skepticism at the purity of your intent. One who would call himself a master of illusions after-all, seems an unlikely one to gift unlimited creativity. How are we to know that this is not merely the first deluge into the greatest illusion of all time? The day you tricked all the God's."
We all ride the struggle bus sometimes

As the eye shifted from one side of the mist to the other, following the exchance of words between the gods a deep voice spoke " If noone is going to start then allow me to begin the process of creation." Suddenly an unseen wave of energy epanded into the nothingness that was. "I have spread my magic across the current nothingness that is, I am curious to see what you others shall add to the void that is no longer empty."

A faint disturbance in the atmosphere of the void called to Ba'al Naḫāšu as he stood there. More are yet to arrive, patience we must have until we are all here, he thought as he continued to stroke his beard. The words of the other being, the Lord of Change, made sense and he would have been glad to join him in creation right there, though together they still lacked the power to create much. Sighing, he extended his right hand in front of him, summoning a large sack of grains and fish. Even in this nothingness, hunger encroaches.

The magic emitted by the newest arrival intrigued the Lord of Bounty and moving forward, while consuming the grains and fish, he spoke to him

"Interesting, even though we cannot physically see the energy, it can still be felt. I feel a bit more comfortable now." He took a trout from the sack, eating it whole as he looked at this Lord. The crunching sound of the bones and spines of the fish soothed him, the taste, awakening him. Finishing it off, he moved the sack towards the group of beings and said

"If thou art hungry, eat what you like from the sack. Whatever meal you crave, it shall be in there." He moved closer to the group, sack stretched forward

With a jagged smile, the Lord of Adversity added, "How fortunate, then, that the God of Despair has come to answer Our call. For is nothing not free of sorrow?" Extending his black hands, Mendacium Deceptio said, "Will you not share your own gifts with this blighted place, or will you bereft it of your presence merely to spite Us?"

"Not so empty, yes..." Gaeyn agreed with their host as one of his colleagues filled this void with an energy that couldn't be seen, but made the place so much more...'full' with its presence. "And still, he felt so much more was missing. Aesthetically, his colleagues would have to step up to the plate and impress. This was a brand new slate after all. All they had learned could be put to use here. "Still...this place cannot know the sweet rest death provides until they know the toil and struggle of a mortal life. Their lives cannot be spent in this cold void." he pointed out, glancing about his present fellows.

"My expertise lies not in the plane of the living, but making sure they are...comfortable in death."

In the vast emptiness of the Void where the other gods had arrived, the tip of a massive sword cut into the void opening a tear, Out of it stepped what appeared to be a massive armored man, He was Dibhur Varus, The Lord of Destruction. He answered the call as wherever there was Creation there must be Destruction. He and that which he wields is a force of balance. He walked through the Void, the air shimmering and tearing around him. He arrived at the place where most of the gods appeared to be gathering for now. Dibur was truly curious about why he was called here, though he was the one True Lord of Destruction he had many forms and up until now he was many beings before he re gathered his power. there were others who did things similar to him but through different means, they would probably arrive later.

His azure eyes than drifted about the void around them. "It seems," whispered the Lord of the Intangible. "That this realm is not so empty now."

Dis stared into the eyes of the God, whatever expression he held hidden behind his ghastly mask. With eyes a black as the void about them he peered into the being before him. It lasted for almost half-a-minute before he blinked and slid down his staff, allowing his too long legs to stretch and life him aloft to a standing position. He was now level with the other deities, but continued addressing the God of Falsity for now.

"It seems you know of me. Curious." He allowed another pause, ignoring the arrival of the other divines and their small acts of creation. "Well, you gave a likely answer, but that could only be expected of you. All the same, we are each entitled to our intentions, and also to keep them private. Though as for your query into my offerings for this new reality, rest assured you already blessed by them. As are you all", he spoke generally, before returning to the God before him. Within him he felt the sweet tang of his favorite delicacy. "The day you were born you knew my deft hand. The sorrows of mortality are an acquired taste, but an unmistakable one, for only the mundane can truly appreciate my gifts." He gave a slight pause of silence. "Would you not agree?" At this he turned away from the God and took an open role in the formation of God's. "Regardless, I think I will join in on your grand plan."

"Indeed," smiled the Lord of Aspirations. "Often our gifts take a more subtle approach to weave and wander about the heart."

Through the tear, a black and white shape emerged, uniting the two diverse colors. The Moona nd the Sun had emerged from the nothingness, to form a new and different world. In a moment, the shape transformed itself to a wolf witht he Moon and the Sun as his eyes, a wolf, and transformed again as it was more fitting to a humanoid form. One with two differently coloured masks covering his face, one black and the other white. In his hands a scepter, the symbols of the Moon and the Sun engraved on the robe the man wore. He looked up, darkness and light surrounding him.Nashoba he thought. That's my name. He stood temporarily down, before, suddenly unleashing the Moon and the Sun in different directions, in a sudden burst of light and darkness that for a moment was overwhelming.
"Brothers, Sisters. Who else has emerged from the void?"

The Lord of Destruction responded simply in a deep voice that sounded like Destrucion given sound. "I come to do what must be done. Though I am not so good with creating things, I shall do what I must, no more no less." He then directed this next part at the other gods " Destruction comes before as well as after Creation, so it has always been and so shall it be in this void."
