I hope war could be avoided.

I do too but given the rhetoric used by the Ottomans and Persians seems to suggest war at some time and I'd not want to be a part of it. They would always be welcome to negotiate a peace treaty here in Riyadh once shits settled.

Unfortunately, if war did break out, I would need to back a side all or nothing.

Yet if the Ottomans sign the agreement presented by the German Reich, Germany would be backing the Ottomans and Dutch in that fight. Is the Papal Republic really willing to anger Germany, which happens to support the Monarchy in North Italy and would be happy to invade South Italy?

when you back online, General Ahmad is all out ready to sign. He just wants to know if u want to go to your ship or the palace

I'm sorry.

I also think I'm going to stay out of this clusterf*ck that is the Middle East for the most part, I might lean Ottoman but I'm going to officially be neutral and trade with both sides, and, oh, continue sending weapons shipments to the Emirate and such.

You could always trade with me. I currently have control of some of the most productive oil fields in the world if we compare them to IRL facts. You could always establish a trade center in Doha and start trading with the Emirate.

It be nice to have sent over to the European Market, no real worry to where it ends up just where it's most needed and where I can make a profit. If also like to see it sent over into the Korean and Chinese markets.

Well now that the tension has been difused, I bid you good night
Proud advocate that Europe stands stronger together than divided. The EU may be flawed in some areas but the idea of a united Europa can only bring good fortune to Europe and the world. For more than two thousand years, Europe was home to conflicts inspired by coveting one another's territory and resources, even making the continent the home to some of the world's most destructive and costly conflicts. But the idea was all wrong in their minds. Their idea was to bring this territory or that under their flag and spread influence on the continent. The idea they should all have been thinking was that the goal should be to bring the continent under one unified flag.

Trying something on this one. Also, I hope this area is still unclaimed. The idea for this is basically a lesser analogue to RL Japan in the Middle east

Full Nation Name: Sultanate of Al-Fayyed
Short Nation Name: Al-Fayyed
National Flag:(Image)
Territory: Unclaimed Arab Peninsula, Modern Day Pakistan
Colonies: None
Client States: No official states, maintains influence over tribes in Northern India
Official Language(s): Arabic
Form of Government: Sultanate
Head of State: Sultan Muhammed bin Khalifa Al-Fayyed
Head of Government: Sultan Muhammed bin Khalifa Al-Fayyed
Capital City: Muscat
Population: 21,220,000
Ethnicities: Punjabi(50%), Pashtuns (10%), Sihks (10%) Sindhis (8%), Arabs (7%), Balochs (5%), Others (10%)
Religion: Islam is the official religion, although the Sultanate is tolerant of other religions, especially People of the Book (Christians and Jews).

Army: The Army of Al-Fayyed is a well trained, equipped, and organized fighting force. It represents the will of the government in Muscat and is the primary means by which order is maintained in the nation. Despite the large population of the nation, only a few are trusted enough to actually serve in the military. This fact makes actual deployment of the full force of the Army difficult because it would mean exposing parts of the country to potential rebel threats. The Watchmen are largely independent localized forces whose main duties are keeping the order. They have military training due to the frequency of rebellions and can be utilized in wartime. While manpower is available in times of desperation, the government in Muscat is loathe to arm much more of the population.

  • Total: 388,300 (1.8% of Population)
    Active: 220,300 (1.0% of Population)
Trained Reserves: 168,000 (.8% of Population)
Potential Conscripts: 1,061,000 (5% of Population)

His Majesty's Army
The Household Guard | Strength: 20,000 Infantry, 6,000 Cavalry | Status: Elite Forces | HQ: Muscat | Uniform: X | Equipment: X

The Lions of Muhammad | Strength: 26,300 Cavalry | Status: Elite Forces | HQ: Muscat | Uniform: X | Equipment: X | Elite horsemen specializing in asymmetrical warfare and shock tactics
Royal Wardens | Strength: 110,000 Infantry, 10,000 Cavalry | Status: Reserve Sub-Par Forces, primary role is policing state | HQ: Muscat | Uniform: X | Equipment: X
Loyal Tribal Forces | Strength: 38,000 Infantry, 10,000 Cavalry | Status: Reserve Irregular Forces | HQ: Muscat | Uniform: X | Equipment: X

Navy: The Navy of the Sultanate is the pride of the nation. Utilized for controlling trade in the Arabian gulf, it is modernized, well equipped and well trained. Due to the relatively small size of the army, the Sultanate has had ample funds to build up its naval forces.

Total Strength: 40,000 (0.2% of Population)

Fleet
•Battleships (Dreadnoughts): 4
•Battleships (pre-Dreadnoughts): 13
•Cruisers (Armoured cruiser + Protected cruiser): 5
•Light cruisers: 6
•Destroyers: 37
•Submarines: 5

Air Force: No official air wing has been developed but the Army has purchased 10 aircraft for the purposes of scouting enemy forces.

Strength: 10 Aircraft (Models: X | X)

Economic Strength: The Sultanate boasts a strong economy based primarily around international shipping, petroleum, mineral wealth, and a growing industrial sector. The Sultanate controls vast amounts of natural resources, notably one of the largest copper mines in the entire world, and has steadily built a solid Steel industry. Its position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and proximity to India has permitted the Sultanate to largely dominate the flow of international goods in these waters, by offering safe harbor, low docking fees, and welcoming international business, trade has become a major source of income for the Sultanate. Much of this economic growth has occurred due to the welcoming of international business and finance early in the 18th century, many foreign moguls have made their fortunes in the Sultanate with its ready access to raw materials, low labor costs, and connection to international shipping lanes. This being said, much of the development has occurred only in the territories in the Arabian peninsula and along the coast of Balochistan. The inner parts of the nation bordering India and Persia have seen some industry, but much of that part of the country has remained unchanged for centuries.

Infrastructure: The Sultanate boasts some of the finest ports of call in the world. Ample docking is available for ships to load and unload goods. Railways cross the land along the Arabian peninsula and the coast of Balochistan. In this region, roads are very well maintained and kept clean. Electricity is even available to most in this area. Infrastructure in the interior is lacking. Roads do penetrate into the region and efforts to build some railroads have been undertaken but the area is largely underdeveloped.

Scientific Research and Development: The Sultanate is heavily experimenting with Aircraft in all its facets, including testing the viability for using Aircraft from naval vessels. Notable research projects include Submarines, Radio & Telecommunications, and the internal combustion engine & its application for travel. Much of the initial research has come from purchasing and reverse engineering technology for other countries.

Primary Goals: Become the preeminent regional power in the Middle East, establish colonies in Asia and Africa, stabilize internal strife.

History: The arrival of British boats to the Indian subcontinent spelled doom for the Mughal Empire. As their territory and control of India receded, the Empire also began to fracture internally. Power struggles broke out between the ruling family and regional lords. The Sihks rebelled and took much of the remaining empire. Desperate to find a trustworthy ally, the emperor looked outside his domain. He felt no one within the Empire could truly be trusted. The Emperor asked for the assistance of the Emir of Muscat, Bashir bin Saleem Al-Fayyed. The Mughal emperor essentially hired the Emir and his allies as a mercenary army to quell the internal rebellions and consolidate the borders of the Empire.

The Emir and his forces brilliantly beat back the rebels and he gained a great deal of notoriety in the empire. So much so that rebellious ministers plotted to install the Emir as the new ruler, remove the Mughal dynasty and control the remains of the empire through the Emir as a puppet. Bashir pretended to follow through with their plan and executed the coup d'etat. Instead of establishing the preeminence of the ministers, however, Bashir married the daughter of the Emperor and declared the establishment of a new Sultanate in 1841.

The first order of business was to throw open the doors of the empire to the British. The Emir figured that if they were invited in and partnered with, they wouldn't feel compelled to take control by force. European investment and influence was encouraged, even at the price of a number of unequal treaties. The Sultanate steadily became a favored port for many traders venturing in the Indian Ocean, no only as a place to rest and resupply, but also to do trade with the Central Asian and Arab worlds.

The first cracks in the ship occurred seven years into the reign of Bashir. As time progressed, Bashir had elevated many of his Arabic allies and family members to positions of power and influence in the former Mughal Empire. Bashir had also coopted the loyalty of regional and local lords over the power of the former ruling class. This alienated the former elites of the Empire. Those former elites made a shaky alliance with the independent-minded Sihks and began a series of rebellions (known as the Great Mughal Uprisings) in the internal portions of the Sultanate that still persist to this day. Bashir, together with European allies, helped quell the first of these rebellions.

The Sultanate followed an extremely welcoming policy for anyone willing to bring trade and development to its shores. A huge emphasis was placed on investing in infrastructure and industry. Former soldiers from across the world were invited to train the Sultanate's forces. A heavy investment in educating the nation was made. By the 1880's the Sultanate was in a position to begin renegotiating many of the treaties it saw as unfair. The Navy received heavy investment with the goal of dominating more of the Indian Ocean.

The Second Great Mughal Uprising occurred in 1886 against the regional Pakistani warlords and their Sikh allies. The revamped Sultanate forces were able to march into the northern provinces and crush the rebellion quite handily in open combat. Rather than admit defeat, the Pakistani forces broke up into guerrilla armies bent on making occupation of the north costly to the Sultanate. They raided government offices, roads, military installations, any symbols of governmental authority. The Wardens were established to maintain order in each province and the Lions of Muhammad were created to actively hunt the larger remaining rebel forces.

In 1888 heavy railroad construction began in earnest along the coastline and between major cities in the Arabian peninsula and the coast of Balochistan. Factories sprouted in these regions and the elite of the Sultanate grew wealthier and wealthier. A small middle class sprung up to service the wealthy, the foreigners, and to feed off the growing economy. However, most of the wealth remained concentrated in the hands of the elite families. Those who became educated were generally brought into the fold of one of the elite families in a growing system of patronage.

In 1904 Sultan Muhammed bin Khalifa Al-Fayyed, great-grandson of Bashir, took the throne. He proved himself to be a far more progressive ruler than his predecessors and has made it a goal to make peace with the northern rebels. Controversially, he has also made it a point to challenge and break up the power of the nation's elite, seeking to diversify the economy and the power. He has opened more government contracts to newer and smaller players. He seeks to expand the middle class, and thus the loyal base of the country, all in an effort to unify the people because growing nationalism in the former Mughal territories is proving to be a threat to the stability of the Sultanate. The current Sultan seeks to build a new national identity that all his subjects can identify with.

RP Example:
Colonel Alexander Nikolayevich Dovorov was awoken from his bed by frantic shouts from his aides outside his door. Major Ivchenko was pale in his face and could barely speak. Dovorov was not in a mood to handle this man and said "Speak" rather tersely to the major. The major finally managed to utter the words, "The Germans have attacked us. We believe at around 3 this morning. No word from headquarters and retreating soldiers and streaming into the city."

In a rare moment of visible surprise, Dovorov was shocked. For a moment a flash of worry struck the man but he quickly composed himself. Attempting to appear composed before his men, Dovorov slowly reached for his coat hanging next to his door, put it on, and lit a cigar. If one could have seen his hands through the darkness of the room, they were trembling and lighting his cigar was almost difficult before Dovorov took a deep breath. His calming demeanor mastered he said to the gathered staff officers, "So it begins."

He made his way through his makeshift headquarters in a commandeered mansion in Vilnius's south-eastern outskirts. He looked to the major, "Do we have any intelligence?"

The major shook his head, "We have only vague estimates. The retreating soldiers have put the advancing Germans at over 10,000 backed by 100 armored vehicles."

Dovorov cut the man a deathly stare, "I WILL NOT tolerate the ramblings of cowards. Those numbers are the fantasies of whipped dogs and shall not be repeated. The correct response, Major, is that we have limited intelligence suggesting sizable infantry and armored elements but not more. How long till they arrive?"

The Major contemplated his response, "Our front lines are crumbling, they will likely be here by midday."

Dovorov looked around the room at the assembled Senior officers, "Comrades, we must hold here. The river crossing behind us will not be used by the Germans to flank our southern brothers. Our first line of defense will be along the rail lines. We have terrain advantage when the approach from the west. Our second line will be formed before the bridge head. If the first line falls, all units are to fall back through the city to the bridge and regroup for a counter attack. They have the initiative now, once we know our enemy's strength, we will take it from them. Deliver this message to the field officers - 'Germans have attacked with infantry and armor, hold a defensive line across the rail line at all costs.' "

The message was short but it was all the men needed to know for now. Dovorov's mother had insisted there was no God. He hoped she was wrong.

-------------------------

Midday 22 June 1941

The retreating men did not seem to be too far off in their estimates. Contact with the enemy had been made across the entire line. Dovorov still had no word from headquarters. German infantry and armor had hit them hard. The Germans did not seem to have any air support at the moment. In the absence of orders from above, Dovorov took control of the situation. he radioed into the local airfield and commandeered several air elements of Yak-1 fighters and Il-2 Ground-Attack craft. He hoped that air superiority here could help stall the German advance.

Germans have attacked along the lines in the map above and will reach Soviet lines by midday. Officers, your first post may include your reaction to word from the German attack but it should also include your first contact with the German enemy.
