Could I do a united north? It would incorporate Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, etc); Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg); and the British isles (Britain, Ireland)

If not, then just Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Greenland, etc)

That requires extensive history, and it will be a long history, Gyre.

What I suggest is that you play as the entire Scandinavia or entire Benelux?

Homeland Population: 4,500,000

Imperial Population: N/A

Location/Claims: Northern Cape, South Africa

Capital City:Kimberly

Government Info
Government Type: Constitutional Federal Republic

Brief Explanation of Government: The Commonwealth is divided into states, with each having its own legislature. These can pass laws as long as they don't violate tihe national constitution or state's constitution. Perhaps unique to the Commonwealth is the fact that each state within it has its own constitution, which can augment certain parts of the national constitution to its liking. In the capital city, Kimberly, there is a national legislature which amends the national constitution and has the right to override the states'. The national legislature, is referred to as the 'Volksraad' and is lead by the President.

The President serves as Commander-In-Chief of the ANSF(Afrikaans National Security Force), can order a law to be passed, regardless of feelings towards it. Of course, the president can be impeached by the Volksraad. He/She can also be impeached if they suffer a no-confidence vote from 2/3rds of the states' legislatures. On the topic of the states' legislatures, they also elect a president - whose responsibilities include setting up and maintaining the state militias and enforcing conscription etc. Signing local laws into state constitutions etc, but unlike the President in Kimberly, he/she has no power to override the local volksraad and force through laws.

National legislatures reshuffle every 2 years and states' every 3 years. National and State elections for President both occur every 5 years, with all adult citizens being allowed to vote.

Ideology: Afrikaner Nationalism, Anarcho-Collectivism, Capitalism and Autarky.
Leader/s: President Wessel Van Vrij - President of Kimberly State and Commonwealth as a whole.

President Frank Bertolt - President of Upington State
President Marie Linde - President of Springbok State
President Oliver Maa - President of De Aar State

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The main inhabitants of the Commonwealth are descended from German, French and Dutch settlers who arrived in the area during the 17th century. The Afrikaners are extremely religious, with nearly all being Calvinist - they tend to have a good ethos for hard work and labour.
Religion: Calvinism
Ethnicity: Mainly White, with Coloured and Black populations forming a minority.

Main/Accepted Culture: Afrikaner/Dutch

Other Cultures:Black African, non-Afrikaner White South Africans.

Economy
GDP Expectation as of 2055: $250,000,000,000
Main Exports: Livestock, diamonds, iron and grain.
Main Imports: Oil, machinery, consumer goods.

Military Info
Army:

The Afrikaans National Security Force is the main armed force in the state, composed of 35,000 professional soldiers and increased by conscription every year. Potential recruits must pass a test to be accepted into the force: they must have a good grasp of the Afrikaans language, pass a physical and mental health check, complete with a passing grade the arithmatic and numeracy test and finally complete the 'Standardised Army Fitness Test.' To complete the test, they must score a minimum of 10.5 in between two marker points that are 25 metres apart.

Next, they must complete at least 35 sit-ups within two minutes, and finally they must complete 35 push ups within two minutes. Afterwards, they're issued with an ANSF ID card which entitles them to discounts on public transport, free gym membership at any armed forces-affiliated gym and discounts at certain stores. An ANSF ID expires after two years and the only way for it to be renewed is to sign on as a permanent soldier.

Around two weeks after performing the 'Standardised Army Fitness Test' and receiving their ANSF ID, the potential soldier's training will begin - all soldiers, regardless of being a conscript or volunteer must complete it. First, they're picked up by bus to one of twelve bases dotted throughout the country, then issued with their uniform, five pairs of underwear, two large towels, a shaving kit, reusuable plastic water bottle, five pairs of dark grey socks, three khaki undershirts, two rolls of toilet paper, bathroom essentials (toothpaste, toothbrush etc), two pairs of boots, beret and a large duffel bag to carry it all. Soldiers may either go clean shaven or grow beards, however, if they start clean shaven then they must stay clean shaven throughout training. Sunglasses are banned, and if found are confiscated.

Soldiers are then assigned rooms on the base, they often share these with four or five other soldiers and are responsible for their upkeep. With their pay being docked for uncleanliness or destruction of property. In addition, all soldiers must complete tasks around the base to ensure its continued functioning. This is enhanced by visits to the surrounding villages on cultural visits to help soldiers learn about the different cultures of the nation. This is in the midst of basic training too.

Basic training itself consists of 25 weeks of training, with soldiers completing tasks involving physical fitness, desert warfare, survivalist courses, close-quarters combat, firearms training, personal equipment repair, camouflage, map reading, local languages, first aid, parade drill, uniform care and day to day maintenance. Soldiers also complete courses on the nature of the army as a politically neutral force who's secular origins aren't hidden. After the completion of training, soldiers choose a job within the army which sends them for specialised training in that area - choices including armourer, combat medic, chef, drill instructor and military police. With more jobs available. Training in these areas usually lasts from 8 weeks to the longest of 15. As such, professional soldiers earn $2,500 every month, compared to the conscript's $250.

Afterwards, soldiers complete a year of service, afterwards gaining a 'military education' degree. The degree obtained is based on the job they chose after training, with it granting entry into college if they choose to leave the military.

Soldiers are armed with the locally produced variant of the FN FAL battle rifle, the 'SDBR MK III' - a heavily modernised version of the rifle.

Some soldiers may be distinguished within their units, which will often lead to an offer for them to attend special forces selection - it is open to volunteers only and known throughout the military for its strict training style. Here, soldiers must complete a bleep test with a passing score of 15.5, navigate 25 miles of semi-arid land while wearing a 35 pound rucksack back to base in under five days and complete live fire exercises. Then they attend paratrooper school and learn how to rappel, complete HALO and HAHO jumps and parachuting in general. Often, soldiers here are permitted to break the army regulations on appearance and grow long hair and unkempt beards.

They're also trained in the operation of boats, helicopters and small aircraft. Once they get in, they're issued a new passport, beret and are generally relocated to 'Orange Creek' - a small border town used to harbour special forces soldiers and simulate the appearance of a normal community.

Other Info

[b]Brief Description of your Economy: The economy relies mainly on the mining of diamonds and selling of agricultural produce, with a policy of Afrikaner self-sufficiency in place, anything that can be made in the country, is made in the country. The currency of the state is the 'Volks Gelder.'

Goals: To become Africa's dominant power.

History:

When the United States' collapsed, life in South Africa became a daily struggle for both White and Black citizens alike. However, this caused a closer bond between the two groups, and just for a while it looked as if they'd be able to reform South Africa. Then, boom. A fourteen year old Black child is murdered by Afrikaner Nationalists and large scale riots follow, 650 Whites and 178 Blacks are killed in race riots across the country. In response to this, many Afrikaners, seeing no future for themselves in South Africa's urbanised - majority Black Areas flee to the Northern Cape: an arid land of a million people stretched over 300,000 sq km. Their aim is to create an Afrikaner majority state, where God and Home replace violence and consumerism.

Roughly four years following the riots and collapse of the South African government, over 700,000 Afrikaners have settled in the Northern Cape turning it into an Afrikaner majority state. Large scale violence toward Black Africans, composed by bitter political leaders and village mayors results in the death of 40,000 and expulsion of 290,000 Black Africans and Coloureds from Afrikaner territory. Around this time, a government is set up and begins creating the modern structure of itself. For the first time in a generation, Afrikaans-medium schools are teaching freely, music and culture blossom.

Following Germany's abortive invasion of the Netherlands, the Volksraad passes the 'Immigration Act' - allowing Dutch to immigrate freely, provided they lack a criminal record. 600,000 Dutch, fearful of Germany's influence on their state take the chance and migrate to the Northern Cape. These immigrants would later prove crucial in ending the growing racial divide between the remaining non-whites and Afrikaners, doing this in the election of 2036 and voting in a party which preached an end to the violence. Nearly 20 years later and much of the bitterness from the race riots is gone, with successive governments focusing more on assimilation and reintegration than exclusion and segregation.

Government Type: Federal constitutional parliamentary republic
Brief Explanation of Government: The government is headed by a Prime Minister (or Premier) whom presides over the country and its affairs, although he is limited, by the Constitution of 2033 and the bicameral Chinese Parliament, with his powers and authority. The government is effectively divided into 4 branches: the executive branch, under the Prime Minister and the President (who the PM appoints), the legislative branch under the Parliament, the judicial branch under the Chinese Supreme Court, and a fourth branch, the Examination Commission which, like Taiwan's Examination Yuan, helps examine and validate the qualifications of civil servants. The Court limits the other branches powers and strikes down laws and acts to which they deem unconstitutional, the Prime Minister helps to make decisions, agree/sign laws, and run the country. The Parliament passes the laws and acts of the country, while the Examination Commission helps determine and validate whether governments officials are qualified or not.

President Han Jin

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The Chinese are a group of people who have endured many hardships in the past, and once had an economy that was the 2nd largest in the world until the collapse of the dollar and the Sino-Asian War. Despite these hardships and difficulties, the Chinese continue to attempt to rebuild their nation and their economy and return China to a period of prosperity. However, despite the actions of the past communist warmongers, the Chinese also seek peace with their neighbors following the Sino-Asian War.

Military Info
Army: Having suffered a massive defeat in Vietnam and defeats at the hands of the Pact forces in Taiwan, the Chinese Army was downsized in the peace treaty resolved in the war, though it still maintains a significant force, with 700,000 active and 500,000 reserve, making up a total of 1,200,000 men. Despite this, the military suffers from logistical problems, as well as outdated artillery, tanks, and aircraft. The military's soldiers all receive decent training and equipment, although the Korean and Japanese forces are more modernized and professional. However, its not something to dismiss on the battlefield, and the army overall is in a much better position than the Navy and Air Force. The Army of China is called the National Revolutionary Army of China
Navy: The Chinese Navy was effectively destroyed at the hands of the Korean-Japanese fleets, with most of the ships being outdated. Its large conventional submarine fleet was able to wreak some havoc, but were easily countered by anti-submarine tactics and destroyers. The remnants of the Navy would limp back into Chinese harbors, now having been rendered unable to effectively conduct a naval operation. Now, after the war, China was allowed to keep its navy, but now it currently focuses on modernizing the remnants of the former PLAN and building new, more modern ships. It currently numbers around 130 vessels, with half of them being missile and gunboats. It has around 30,000 active personnel, followed by 25,000 reserve. Navy crews are generally decently trained, though they are by far from the best. China's Navy is now limited to the seas strictly around the Chinese coast and is unable to operate too far away from it, lest it be caught out by the enemy and quickly destroyed. The Navy of China is officially called the National Revolutionary Navy of China

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: China's economy has adopted principles of free trade and free market, as well as other Western styled economic policies, which had lead to some denoting it as "Capitalism with Chinese characteristics". China's recent economic recovery has been in part due to foreign investment stimulating the economy, as well as closer economic cooperation with its neighbors. The economy is still one of the biggest in Asia despite undergoing 2 wars.
Goals:
-Rebuild China after the war
-Reconcile relations with China's neighbors
-Grow and expand the economy
History:
As the dollar collapsed, the Chinese government knew their days were unlimited, and in 2020 a bomb exploded at the airport in Beijing, killing several people and injuring dozens. A man was caught and links were supposedly found and traced to the Taiwanese government, and China claimed it as irrefutable evidence that Taiwan was funding terrorist groups in China, and used this as a casus belli against Taiwan. War was declared, but with the US undergoing their own problems there were only other Asian nations, notably Japan and South Korea, that came to the defense of Taiwan. Despite this, however, Chinese troops landed in Taiwan and took over the island in 2 months despite fierce resistance. The Chinese Navy, or PLAN would engage the South Korean and Japanese Navies in what is now known as the Battle of the South China Sea. China's Navy would be worn out little by little, and was effectively destroyed by 2025. Its large submarine fleet was able to wreak some havoc on shipping and the SK-Japanese fleets, but it was countered by anti-submarine tactics and destroyers. Shortly after the invasion of Taiwan, in 2021 China commenced a separate invasion of Vietnam following the Spratly Incident, where both Vietnamese and Chinese ships fought a small battle. Several ships on the Chinese side were damaged, with around 20 dead after the short battle. China declared war on Vietnam, claiming that it was aggression on part of Vietnam and it was effectively violating Chinese territory. Hundreds of thousands of troops poured into Vietnam, securing parts of the Northern area of Vietnam.

The Chinese Army launched an offensive to capture Hanoi in 2022, but the offensive was bogged down and while the Vietnamese capital was briefly threatened, Chinese forces were repelled and most of Southeast Asia, including India, rallied to Vietnam's aid. Pakistan backed China on the matter, with Pakistani troops engaging in skirmishes with India, effectively preventing mass Indian troop deployments to the Chinese-Indian border, but Pakistan never formally joined the war. In 2023 Vietnamese troops began making gains, and a separate, but fruitless offensive was launched by the Chinese, who knew that they were losing in the South China Sea and was desperate to show the population that China was still powerful and could still stand even after the collapse of the dollar. However, unrest began in China, with inflation rising and the economy slowly began collapsing under the strain of the collapse of the dollar and the war. The SE Asian nations had commenced an embargo on China, cutting it off from imports and adding to the strain. The second offensive again, was able to have Chinese troops approach Hanoi but a coalition of troops from various Southeast Asian nations including Japan and Korea was able to repel it. In Taiwan, the remannts of the military as well as civilian resistance continued ambushing Chinese troops, tying down troops that would have better been deployed in Vietnam. The Air Force, consisting mainly of Russian hand-me-downs was also losing in the battle against determined pilots and more modern aircraft, and Japan and South Korea were supplying Vietnam with weapons against the Chinese. By 2026 they had complete air supremacy in Northern Vietnam and began to relentlessly harass Chinese troops.

By 2025 the Chinese Navy limped back in the ports, utterly defeated and destroyed, and in 2027 Chinese troops in Vietnam were driven out of the country. In 2026 with no navy to oppose them a joint force landed in Taiwan, securing a beachhead and proceeding to slowly push back the Chinese. By 2027 there were tens of thousands of desertions and morale was low in the PLA, and by the end of that year most of Taiwan had been liberated. Using the last of their fresh troops the Chinese hoped to drive back the now invading forces in China with another desperate offensive, and their air force and artillery managed to completely halt the advance. However, their economy had completely collapsed by 2027, and inflation rates continued to spiral out of control. By early 2028 Taiwan had been completely liberated, but the war in Southern China continued to remain a stalemate, with now determined Chinese resistance desperate to prevent troops from invading their homeland. The invading forces were composed of multiple nationalities, which made language barriers a major issue as well as the issue of appointing a commander in chief of these forces, prevented the force from working together as a whole and allowing the exhausted military to halt their advance. In May of 2028 PLAN revolutionaries lead by Li Chun along with their supporters stormed government buildings in Beijing and declared the Second Chinese Republic. They claimed they only wanted peace, prosperity and freedom for China, and constantly played down the Communist party as the cause for China's ruin, creating widespread discontentment for it. Uprisings in the main cities were joined by former PLA soldiers, and the remnants of the communist supporters, including troops that still remained loyal to the communist party, lead by the Premier who had survived the Beijing attacks, fled northwards. Rebels seized the entire Southeastern part of China by 2029, with the communists still maintaining footholds in Western and Northern parts of China.

The revolutionaries would receive support from South Korea and Japan, and were able to negotiate a peace treaty in 2028 which only added to their newfound popularity. In 2030 they invaded and seized Manchuria after the battles of Shenyang and Changchun. They turned to Western China, where communists had established strongholds as to conduct a guerilla war. Between 2030 - 2032, parts of Western China were scourged of communists, though resistance still continued several years after the civil war. In 2033 delegates from all the provinces and the leader of the revolutionaries who had overthrown the communists agreed on a Constitution, which declared "peace, prosperity, and freedom" for the Chinese people. Chun became the first Prime Minister, and he vowed to rebuild China to its former glory, as well as reconcile China's relations with her neighbors. Overall, the so-called Sino-Asian War, lasting from 2020 to 2028 cost the Chinese almost half a million military casualties, and around 100-200,000 civilian deaths, with hundreds of thousands, possibly even millions of further deaths caused by malnutrition, shortages, violent riots in the cities, famines, and disease indirectly caused by the war. The Second Civil War between 2028 and 2032 was said to have also cost hundreds of thousands of lives, with the most wildest estimates ranging into the millions. Overall, it is agreed that around 1,500,000 - 2,000,000 people died in the Civil War. Chun's two terms between 2033 and 2041 lead to him officially eliminating the "communist insurgency" in Western China, and the CPC was officially dissolved and banned. Anti-communist propaganda and speeches persisted, and were blamed for the Sino-Asian War.

In addition, Chun was largely successful in his efforts to reconcile relations with China's neighbors, leading to South Korea and Japan investing in the reconstruction which was progressing well. The Chinese economy slowly began to recover, though efforts to reunify China and Taiwan were unsuccessful due to the rise of Anti-Chinese sentiments following the invasion and the war. China also agreed to pay reparations to Taiwan and Vietnam as per the peace treaty signed in 2028. However, a surprising rise in the popularity of the opposition parties lead to him being voted out of power in the third election held in 2041. However, his foreign and some of his economic policies remained and became an integral part of Chinese foreign policy - to repair relations with her neighbors. However a problem still remained with China's ultranationalists, who believed that China's government was being controlled by Japanese and South Korean governments, and believed that it was China's right to become the sole hegemon of Asia. In 2036 they would form the radical right-wing National People's Party (NPP). However, they constantly remained a minor party, although they were suspected of being behind the formation of the radical Revolutionary Front, which aimed to overthrow the current Chinese government and establish a new one in its place. It experienced the peak of membership between 2042 - 2045 when South Korea and Japan began investing in China, and has carried out numerous bombings which has caused them to be designated as an official terrorist organization by the Chinese government and has also affected the course of politics in China, with more parties running on the anti-terrorism and pro-reconcilation-with-China's-neighbors stance. Since 2045 the Revolutionary front has died down and several of its leaders have been arrested.

In 2048 several treaties were signed with China's neighbors, hoping to resolve border disputes as well as strengthen economic ties with them. The Reconstruction process was already going well, and the economy had improved and grown significantly. However, it still faced many problems of its own, with its aged/aging workforce, the devastation caused by the war that had not yet been repaired, and the issue of Tibet, which had been a part of China ever since its invasion in 1951. With the Constitution of 2033 they were given more freedoms than ever before, and the Dalai Lama was even able to return. However, a growing independence movement has begun petitioning the government for separation from China, and cannot be ignored. The Chinese government has expressed their opinion in the matter, only wishing for a democratic and peaceful approach if the Tibetans wish to separate from China. In 2050 China expressed interest in modernizing its army and creating a more professional and disciplined force, as well as expanding its Navy for the purposes of self defense. This has caused unease in some of the countries, who believe that this is just merely an excuse for expanding their military to protect and secure Chinese interests in the South China Sea as well as asserting its dominance in that area.
