After all, how could God let something like this happen to the world? But in the growing circles of the Germanic gods’ followers, the plague was a great hornblast come to signal the return of Woden and Thor, his son. Soon te island was inset the control of the British Army once agian, Alert decided to name the new country the Empire of New Great Britian. He placed himself as king and began militarizing the land and pushing back the zombies as well as sending a military force to Nova Scotia and claiming for the Empire. His regin lasted for ten years now his son Emperor Frederick leads the nation, he has begun to slow down the militarization and expansion in order to stabilize things on the home front.

Key word is were. Saying that I should include it just because it was important to the old German Empire is nonsensical. It ignores Germany's current character, Logical reasons for conquering land that does not want to be a part of my nation any more, and the fact that both of those are now 90% Slavic with most of the Germans chased out to Germany

History:

Each of the four (now two) nations that make up the European Federation were in dire straits in dire straits from the zombie horde in 2016. Germany was all but completely overrun. Without Berlin, the German Government relocated to the old West German capital of Bonn. The smaller town was much easier to defend than Berlin and from Bonn, Germany was reborn. They began to reorganize their military and populace for war. Conscription was reinstated and the Ruhr-Rhine region was recaptured as the heart of the new Germany. It was an industrial center and thus key to revitalize the country and military.

As German tanks rolled off the production line in Cologne, Netherlands and Belgium found themselves in an alliance to somehow turn the tide against the zombie horde. They would be the origin of the EF's Rapid Assault Units. The Dutch and Belgians unites could not fight the zombies and hold retaken land, thus they elected to focus on the former. They sent out dozens of lightly armored medium sized units such as Companies and Battalions to quickly march through the country side and cleanse it of zombies before returning to their bases to rest and resupply. These units did not take much land, but the zombie populations quickly shrunk and they were able to retake the land, but at a slower place.

The French had the largest military, but one that was constantly overstretched to cover too much of France. The French military's ruthlessness once more reared its head. Entire units were lost to wipe out even larger hordes of zombies, it became a war of attrition, and the French were winning, but it was a bloody win. Though the French could afford 10:1 losses, each lose was a veteran lost and experience that they could not replace. Soldiers who survived ten of these horde missions were treated as living saints. However as Dutch and Belgian tactics became more popular, survival odds rapidly increased and the kill:death ratio against the zombies grew and grew.

Eventually all four nations were able to drive out the zombies. However, not all was good. Belgium had been heavily damaged in the war and divided down the middle by massive hordes. Thus Flanders and Walloon had fought the war largely separate. Without anything to tie them together, it was agreed that Netherlands would take Flanders and Walloon would join France as most of their support had come from the Northern French Army Group under the direction of Reims (the new capital after Paris had been overrun). And then there were three nations.

Germany, Netherlands, and France were all left heavily damaged. France decided it was time to for a new Constitution to fit the new post-zombie world. Thus the Sixth French Republic was formed with several changes such as giving the military more freedom to defend against zombie attacks. Netherlands began to quietly reclaim their land, now zombie free, and seek out other nations that might have survived. Germany, now dominated by Social Democrats (that reabsorbed Die Linke during the war) began a massive state run recovery with everything distributed with meticulous efficiency.

By 2025, most of the nations had recovered to some extent, and began to look into reestablishing connection. All three were supporters of the EU and without other states to drag them down, all three could impose their strong, secular, etc federation. Netherlands knew it would be a weak third wheel to the new EU, so they agreed to unite with Germany in exchange for extra autonomy (and a write to hold a referendum on separation if they wished). The Dutch saw it as a simple step toward a single nation where all borders and national authority was mostly if not completely gone, thus a temporary arrangement before both joined a strong EU. Thus on July 24th, 2027 Netherlands and Flanders joined as the 17th and 18th states of Germany. Germany likewise changed it's name to the Federal Germanic Republic to accommodate the new members and reflect that they were not merely German.

However the eventual winner would be a true dark horse and at the same time, a deeply symbolic choice. Aachen, favored capital of the Charlemagne and his empire, which had encompassed Germany, France, Netherlands, and Belgium at it's height. A small spa town before the war, it had managed to survive mostly intact because of it's small size and close proximity to Bonn and Netherlands/Belgium, meaning it could and did receive support from all three sides because of its importance as a rally point. A massive construction project to accommodate an EU government attracted many workers and Aachen went from a sleepy little town to a decently sized city overnight, and never stopped growing with local authorities reporting growth every year for the past eight years.

Rather than the over complicated model of the previous EU, the new framers choose three big institutions. A powerful legislature called the European Parliament that would draft, debate, and pass laws. An executive branch beholden to the Legislature, headed by a Prime Minister and one adviser from both of advisers states to ensure that they were kept in the loop. Finally a powerful judicial court called the High Court that would decide the constitutionality of the laws and human rights of both the EU and of the member states. This court would include nine judges, The EP and both members would appoint three. The new organization was named the European Federation.

The first elections for the parliament were held in January 13, 2029 with the European Party of Socialist (French Socialist Group and German Social Democrats) winning. The Parliament convened on the 31st and on February 2nd, Morgan Monet became the first Prime Minister. From 2029 onward the three nations have held a balance, unity being slowly pushed through, inch by inch so as to not upset the fragile new system. The biggest change so far came in 2032 when the European Parliament assumed responsibility for the defense of the Federation, thus federalize both the German and French armies while keeping conscription alive. While the move caused a stir amongst the public, the new Prime Minister, Philip Van Haanraads, a charismatic Dutchman, was able to sell it well enough that it blew over.

Each of the four (now two) nations that make up the European Federation were in dire straits in dire straits from the zombie horde in 2016. Germany was all but completely overrun. Without Berlin, the German Government relocated to the old West German capital of Bonn. The smaller town was much easier to defend than Berlin and from Bonn, Germany was reborn. They began to reorganize their military and populace for war. Conscription was reinstated and the Ruhr-Rhine region was recaptured as the heart of the new Germany. It was an industrial center and thus key to revitalize the country and military.

As German tanks rolled off the production line in Cologne, Netherlands and Belgium found themselves in an alliance to somehow turn the tide against the zombie horde. They would be the origin of the EF's Rapid Assault Units. The Dutch and Belgians unites could not fight the zombies and hold retaken land, thus they elected to focus on the former. They sent out dozens of lightly armored medium sized units such as Companies and Battalions to quickly march through the country side and cleanse it of zombies before returning to their bases to rest and resupply. These units did not take much land, but the zombie populations quickly shrunk and they were able to retake the land, but at a slower place.

The French had the largest military, but one that was constantly overstretched to cover too much of France. The French military's ruthlessness once more reared its head. Entire units were lost to wipe out even larger hordes of zombies, it became a war of attrition, and the French were winning, but it was a bloody win. Though the French could afford 10:1 losses, each lose was a veteran lost and experience that they could not replace. Soldiers who survived ten of these horde missions were treated as living saints. However as Dutch and Belgian tactics became more popular, survival odds rapidly increased and the kill:death ratio against the zombies grew and grew.

Eventually all four nations were able to drive out the zombies. However, not all was good. Belgium had been heavily damaged in the war and divided down the middle by massive hordes. Thus Flanders and Walloon had fought the war largely separate. Without anything to tie them together, it was agreed that Netherlands would take Flanders and Walloon would join France as most of their support had come from the Northern French Army Group under the direction of Reims (the new capital after Paris had been overrun). And then there were three nations.
