Lara gave a thumbs up. "Yeah, tell 'em I said hi." She stopped before looking at the toaster. "OH GOD IT'S BURNING! FUCK, FUCK, FUCK!" she shrieked

She rushed to the counter and hit the cancel button on the toaster probably six times in that second before they popped up, blackened and smoking. With a grimace, she declared, "Fire cannot harm a dragon!" and grabbed the four waffles out of the toaster with her fingertips. Her feet carried her in a rush to the trash can where she practically threw the waffles from her hands. She stuck a couple sore fingertips into her mouth.

"Fire has harmed this dragon," she mumbled as she entered the living room. Lara sat again on the couch, grumpily opening her laptop again.

In the words of Liam Neeson, he would find Snow, and he would convert the heathen to the ways of the Tic-Tac. Well, not the exact words, but the gist was close enough.

Leo shook his head slightly. The mint ones were alright, in his view, but among the worst flavours of Tic-Tac available. That was mostly because Polos already filled the role of mints, and despite that Tic-Tacs were superior to everything else, one could not simply beat the Polo as a mint. Not even a mint Tic-Tac.

Conan had moved his way from the computer to pick up Alexander and bring him up with his to his bed, sliding on his spiked cap in the process, rolling around with his dog "Awwwsh, whosh a good boys! Who isss? Yass, youz is, yous iz!" He said , holding the dog up in the air, as the dog looked down at him in happiness and confusion at why the human was waving him around.

He quickly looked over at his chat box, to see if anyone had explicitly messaged him, and finding that none had actually yet. It was late, and while he did want to keep on chat, he wasn't in the right mind to begin anything. He was actually considering going to bed, knowing that staying up late at night would probably lead to some bags under his eyes, but he resisted for the time being.

She had gone out early, walking around the streets and browsing shops, as she normally did, her pepper spray can never far from reach, of course. In the three hours she had been awake, she had done this, met up with a few of her "friends" (mostly co-workers, but you can't call your peers that, can you?), and even shopped around a little bit at the mall. She didn't spend much, she never did, but it was something. The bag currently rested on her shoulder, with her purse.

She felt her phone buzz in excitement. Looking down, she wasn't surprised to see it was the group chat she partook in. Looking around, she shrugged. Now was as good a time as any to chill out. She didn't need to be home for a while, anyway.

Finding a small coffee shop, she ordered (caramel latte) and sat, pulling out her phone and taking a relaxed breath.

Taylor, after getting her ramen, quickly returned to her room and began messing with her PC. On one screen sat a familiar menu most of you may know as Steam. On the other monitor was the chat client. Of which there were new responses. Fun!

Her first order of business: replying.

Next, playing some games. Taylor could think of nothing she'd rather do than playing games and chatting with friends.

Today she chose... Civilization? It had been a while since she last played it, and conquering the world was fun. With a devilish smile, Taylor booted up Civilization 5 (because the latest version is dumb), and began her quest for world domination. She also, on the other screen, started a few 1-1 chats to keep herself entertained.

Lara clicked over to a new tab and stared at the blank address bar and nodded.

"Yeah, dude. This is fuckin' boring." She paused. "I'm gonna go find stuff to do, " she stated as she stood from the couch and walked down the hallway. She knew the layout of the house well, but always enjoyed prodding around. The zippers of her boots were the only sound she heard as she walked.

An open door caught her wandering eye. With narrow eyes and a smirk, she entered the office Tod never cared to show her.

I don't even care if it's boring as fuck, I wanna know what's in there, she thought, justifying her action before stepping into the small spare bedroom To d's father had claimed for his workspace.

The_Kitten_Overlord: oooh, steam games.
The_Kitten_Overlord: which one. i might have it.

Unlikely. there were a total of two types of games Annie played. Story based ones set in a fantasy adventure, or anything that appealed to her "cuteness addiction" as her brother often puts it. She had few games in any case on steam, having only bothered to make an account recently.

Though it was at least better than Catherine, who only thinks of steam as water vapor and has kept quiet about this ignorance out of confusion and an unwillingness to admit she might have missed something in the social consciousness but filled with too much stubborn pride to google it.

As Lara meandered into Tod's father's office, he paid very little attention. He figured she would go to his room, prod around his stuff (one of the many reasons he kept everything tidy), or maybe their attic. However, she didn't choose either of those locations.

Today, she went into the office.

Today, Bernard Fischer was running late. He was meeting a friend/temporary associate for brunch. It had been quite long since he had decided to work, but he finally felt ready to take on the challenge. He felt a was of content that morning, as he drove away in his modest car, from his modest house that contained his modest son. A wave that he hadn't felt in eons upon eons.

He grinned to himself. He had outsmarted the book once. He had outsmarted the Owl twice. Perhaps he really had gone far enough to live a normal life. He had taken the book to a place where it didn't matter.

Today was going to be a good day.

Today, the Good Day of Bernard Fischer, a man not of this Earth, an office door was left slightly open.
The door's owner had been using it the hours prior, and in a haste, forgot to close the white wooden door, allowing it to auto-lock upon being shut. Had it only been his son home all day, he wouldn't have had to worry. Despite knowing where the key was, Tod Fischer respected his father's personal belongings-- and privacy.

However, Today, The Titan came over, to watch Let's Plays and drink Mountain Dew.

Lara sauntered into the office, whistling. "Damn, Papa Fish, what have you been hiding?" The room itself was very deep and contrasted from the rest of the house. Unlike the neat and orderly rooms with white walls and modest rug and hardwood, this one had an ornate green rug covering the floor, and its walls were a deep oak. Papers and books, all archaic (and some in odd languages Lara couldn't identify), lined shelves and spilled over. There was no computer on the finely crafted desk tucked away into a corner, nothing but various papers. She looked around, and turned. "Yo, Tod, why have we never been in here?"

"Been in where?" Tod called back, but he already knew the answer as soon as he said it. Getting up, he followed the sound of her voice. "Oh..I dunno if you should be in there, Lara. My dad doesn't really like people in his office."

"Oh, c'mon. You know me, I won't lay a finger on anything without being careful." she joked, and poked around. "Man, I would have at least expected a computer.....where did he get these books?"

Tod shrugged. He admitted, he was a bit curious. "No clue. He's had them since I was a kid."

"Weird." she replied. "Maybe he was like...In a war or somethi--" Her thoughts were interrupted when she bumped into a shelf, rocking it back and forth violently. From the top of the shelf, a leatherbound book, deep and heavy, ornate yet simple in his blue design with gold trim, fell from the shelf, and landed on the floor with a solid thud.

The page was shimmering, like water.

For a moment, the two kids only looked at it, paralyzed. Then they looked up, and both stammered the same question:

"Wha--"

Then everything went black.

Today, or at least, what one could define as today from across time, space, and dimensions themselves, a Cosmic Spirit was shocked for the first time.

Despite seeing this outcome, as it saw all outcomes, it never would have predicted for this path to be the main one the universe would follow. Through impeccable luck, fate, or a mix of both, the son of the previous Hero of Travels, born into a world his blood was not from, had spilled the book that was stolen from the Spirit's dimension so long, and yet so short ago. At that precise moment, the Planetscape had enveloped their world, adding it to its ever-building ring of worlds. Or, rather, what was left of them after the original hit. The spirit knew the probability of this happening precisely, though the number was so high, it would seem like infinity any other mind.

The Spirit could nevertheless feel happy. There was a bloodline. Perhaps these heroes would prove different than the last.

Today, on the Outside:

A group chat was being used by 13 children, through an Internet connection. This proves vital.

A force, invisible yet very clearly the opposite, swept over the Earth instantaneously, splitting it in many pieces. This alone caused most of the population, including Bernard Fischer, to die instantly. Zeptoseconds later, a thick web of neuron-like tubes, connections, and nebulae, all varying from pink to purple to indigo, filled the universe around the now suspended chunks of what Earth once was. A harsh blast of wind swept through, and those who were still alive reverted to what they were meant to be immediately. The dead ones that weren't completely disintegrated would do the same soon enough. Throughout this new tapestry above, below, and to the sides of the world, star danced and twinkled through each connection.

The 13 kids, all across the planet, were not disintegrated, or Husked. They were falling. Falling into an invisible funnel, one the book had created. Taking them to their First Riddle. 13 small bodies, all so infinitely minuscule compared to the universe falling apart, fell like raindrops in a magenta sky.

They didn't know any of this. They were all away.

Dreaming.

Today, on the Inside:
13 children blacked out at the same time. And then they dreamed the same story.

It was erratic, at best. Bit of images and information flew at them, never staying long enough to be discernible or even remembered. Oily shadows. Hands, pale and rubbery with the stench of non-life. A trail, blazing across a deep blue cosmos.

Pillars, rising so high that they surely reached heaven.
A City, its castle pews a deep purple against the permanent midnight.
A White Light, so brilliant it erases itself from existence.

But one image was clear. One image was remembered by each of them. A dirt road, cutting through a field of grain, its gold blending with the musty beige. It led towards an Ocean, familiar as any. Each kid, separately, felt purpose being here. They felt adventure. They felt important. And a brilliant voice blazed through their minds, as they saw this image. It was louder thank anything they had ever heard before:

FIND HOME

And then, they all awoke in a field of charred grass, gray in color, in what seemed to be the dead of night.

Lara was the first to rise, and took a moment with shut eyes to clear her head. With no victory at her efforts, though, she gazed around with wide eyes, searching for any source of light. None, however, could be found. She sighed and looked up, wondering why the sky was so dark.

Where are the stars? she wondered worriedly. She's never seen the sky so vacant.

Her long hair tugged against her head as she sat up, and she moved her rear end off the locks so she could move more freely. She stood soon after, brushing ash from her back and hair. She looked around, noticing various other people with her. She was barely able to make out anything besides shapes and movement. She watched them quietly before she cleared her throat.

"Uh, anyone awake?" she asked tentatively, but clearly.

Dan was going down the stairs to answer his dad, when "it" happened. He fell down, unconscious, not waking up as he passed through what used to be the stairs and foundation of his house.

"Urgghhghhg." He grumbled, as he awoke. His body felt fine, but his brain...it felt as if it had been through a grinder. He patted his forehead, waiting for the migrane to disappear...which took a few seconds. "Well, Humpty Dumpty had quite a terrible fall, hahahaha!" He joked out loud to himself, as he felt the ground around him...wait, what? This wasn't carpet. He opened his eyes, and sat up.

"Grass?" He muttered to himself, in confusion, as he saw where he lay. A seemingly endless field of grass, at night - almost like the setting for some Van Gogh painting. What had happened? Was he dead? "Good God, I hope not..." He thought, as he looked around. Nearby, in this field, was a bunch of humanoid black figures, laying down as if they had fallen also. "Well, it seems Humpty Dumpty brought along friends." He got up, catching himself as he almost fell down - he still felt a little dizzy - and walked to the nearest human, crouching next to it. "Hello?" He whispered, a bit fearfully. That's when he heard another voice.

"Yes, hello?!" He replied. "Who are you?"

Lara watched the figure move about and respond to her frantically. She waved, then realized how pointless it was and shrugged to herself.

"My name's Lara, I'm sixteen. Who are you?" she repeated. She wasn't excited to be in the middle of nowhere with these people she don't know, but it would at least be helpful to put names to voices.

Alex was awake. He thought. He thought he thought he thought………

His eyes snapped open. The sky was dark. But where was the Ocean? He'd never had an episode like this. Previously, he'd seen tortoises and Alex Jones and himself, in a mirror that went on on on on and on. But never a dark sky, glittering like……… shiny……… ink……… without stars. But ink that was suspended above them. Maybe the ink covered the stars? Yeah. Star-ink-covers-ink.

He sat up, brushing his black hair from his face. This was trippy. The grass was a dull grey tone, as though all of its colour had been leached out, poured into the sky. No color, no shine, no happiness, no no no not for little Alex.

He's just a poor boy, from a poor family, da da da da dadada dee.

Alex was so far gone, he didn't even realize he was singing. Instead, he rocked back and forth, all semblance of sanity gone. "Just another episode, just-just-just-just another episode."

Dan waved at the other person. "Lara? I'm Daniel Anghel, seventeen, USA." Lara...that was Bickie's RL name. It couldn't be the same person, for it was a common name, right? Bloody hell...if he wasn't still feeling so woozy, he could probably have made her face out better. He rubbed his eyes. "Sorry for such an odd question, but do you know a guy called Todd, from Canada? We both know someone with the same first name as yours."

The first thing that registered: Taylor's game was gone.

After the initial shock of that, the falling, flashing images, and landing in a grassy field, it's safe to say Taylor was a bit disoriented. She sat up to extreme darkness, 9 bodies on the ground around her, 2 people standing up and conversing, and one raving lunatic sitting next to where Taylor lie.

And he wouldn't shut up.

"Chill out!" The blonde athlete yelled, as she smacked the blubbering idiot. She stood and looked down on him, sprawled on the grass. "You. Chill. Whatever the hell happened, we'll get nowhere by freaking out."

Then she heard the other voices. They identified as Lara and Dan. Lara and Dan... Those names were familiar...

"Wait. Bickie and Creed?" Taylor blurted forth the names of some internat companions she was just hanging out with. "Is that you guys?"
