Welcome one, Welcome all! I, the ever lovely Imperial--Japan have decided to take a shot at starting a rp based on one of my favorite 'Choice Of Games' stories. If you enjoy character development, Sci-Fi, and a little ounce of heartbreak and action with your tea, then you've come to the right place! Take a seat and listen children! (Of course I can answer any questions over TG if you prefer)

Backstory: The Imperial Federation Of United Worlds. It was once the only power in the galaxy. A galactic empire that nobody ever thought could be challenged. Decades of technological advancement and an exodus of settlers from earth proved to be the driving factor in the initial colonization efforts. There wasn't a shortage of manpower in these newly discovered planets, and as a result the settlements grew to become cities within years. Colonies consisting of a few thousand colonists became hubs of trade and industrialization.

Despite the incentives to migrate to the colonies, there were many present problems as well. To have your lives dictated by a central government that existed lightyears away wasn't very appealing to the newer generations of colonists. Idealists became dissenters, and dissenters became outright rebels. It did seem like a simple rebellion at first.

Things were never as simple as they appeared. The protests were always broken up by colonial police, and the ensuing uprisings were effectively just a rag-tag group of city-goers. It didn't matter to the more conservative Imperial governors, who used these anarchists as the casus-belli behind ordnance limiting the personal freedoms of the populace. Governors effectively became planetary dictators, and independent warlords. In order to consolidate their power, these dictators formed a coalition to stand against the I.F.U.W. This loose alliance was only recognized by the Imperial Government as an illegal secession, and within the month the navy was set upon the colonies. The ensuing brief battles were known as the 'Frontier Skirmishes of 2099'. The total victory of the Imperial Starfleet led to the occupation of the defeated worlds, and in extension limited the power of planetary governors. The Emperor ruling on earth was now recognized as the ultimate sovereign.

Like all humans, the emperor eventually passed from his current life to the next. To the throne ascended Empress Vivian II, and with her ascension came the promise of a new era of warfare.

Plot: It is now the year 2167, and a bloody civil war has been raging between the empire and a strong coalition of industrial worlds for five years. The recent destruction of the agricultural planet of Samaeus has taken its toll on both factions as war exhaustion and hunger has begun to set in. To muster a fresh offensive, the empire has instituted a fresh draft to bolster its numbers. Whether you enlisted or were drafted matters not. As an individual, you had a skill or something unique about you that made your superiors want to send you to the Grand Academy on Luciferia. Luciferia is commonly known as a tourist world with only the southern islands housing the few military bases on the planet. Here on Luciferia, lightyears away from the frontline, you'll be prepared for the horrors of war.

Miscellaneous Info:

Name: Empress Vivian II
Sex: Female
Age: 26
Appearance: Here
Personality: Unlike her father before her, Empress Vivian is more reluctant to resort to military force to enact her will, and instead prefers peaceful negotiation. Of course, this doesn't mean military force is out of the question. With the outbreak of the civil war, Empress Vivian became more accepting of the need to violently crush this open rebellion. When not having to be in 'Political Mode', Vivian is rather polite despite being the ultimate authority figure in the empire. In battle, her tactics can be seen as rather humanitarian as she deliberately avoids needless bloodshed.
Weapon Of Choice: The Royal Spear 'Archimedes'.
Preferred Mode Of Space Combat: Command Mecha

Application:

Name: Charlotte von Cirkensa
Sex: Female
Age: 19
Appearance: Here
Personality: Charlotte takes great pride in her noble heritage and tends not to think highly of the commoners. In fact, when disrespected in anyway by someone of lower status, she becomes visibly irritated to the point of possibly physically abusing the offender. To those who are her equal, she tends to express an aura of arrogance in her trials of proving that she is the better being.
Notable Traits:
  • Regular Drinker
  • Arrogant
  • Lack Of Social Understanding
Previous Occupation: Member of the House Of Cirkensa
Reason For Enlisting: Charlotte is the oldest child to the head of her dynasty, but due to the agnatic practices of her father, she will fail to succeed him. In joining the Imperial navy and making an honorable name for herself, she hopes to inherit the vast fortune of her father.
Weapon Of Choice: Purple Energy Sword
Preferred Mode Of Space Combat: Mecha's
Preferred Mode Of Ground Combat: Mecha's
Brief Bio: Charlotte was born on the Imperial homeworld of Earth as the eldest child of Martin von Cirkensa. Her upbringing was one that any person would expect of a child of nobility, and she was given only the most renown tutors and combat instructors. Personally, Charlotte found the knowledge that her combat instructors parted upon her much more useful than the etiquette that her tutors tried to ingraine in her. As a result, she made it a habit to get out of her classes whenever possible in order to spend time in the practice ranges to hone her sword skill.

When she became sixteen, Charlotte was informed by her father about how her eldest brother would be inheriting house Cirkensa instead of her. The only assumption was that her father had deemed her unworthy, or that she had done something to upset him. When her brother left Earth to take command of the 61'st Mecha Shock Army, Charlotte enlisted soon after. Her exceptional skills in the traditional art of sword combat had made her a potential candidate for Mecha assault. As a result, she has been shipped to Luciferia's Grand Academy to learn how to apply her skills in open battle.

Hey, Impy, haven't seen you around in awhile. You've piqued my interest.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

What's the status of aliens in this? The backstory implies that this is humans-only, but I want to make sure.

If anyone doesn't understand the application, or needs any further info that I may not have supplied than feel free to ask. I'll have my own application up tomorrow.

The entire galaxy has yet to have been explored which leaves the possibility out there. Though your character is required to be a human for the sake of the storyline.

Is there an "ideal" age range? (Actually got denied one time because an OP didn't mention they only wanted adults.)

I'll accept anywhere from 16-mid thirties.

Name: Soren Kavoy.
Sex: Male.
Age: 20.
Appearance:
Image
Personality: Thoughtful and relaxed with a professional outlook on his machines. Kinda hyperactive when the shit hits the fan.
Notable Traits: Mechanic expertise, (too) relaxed when not fighting, (too) excited when fighting.
Previous Occupation: Mechanic. It's too easy.
Reason For Enlisting: DRAFTED BITCHES!
Weapon Of Choice: A big robot. If not, explosives. Mostly grenade launchers...
Preferred Mode Of Space Combat: SPACE MECH!
Preferred Mode Of Ground Combat: ANOTHER MECH!
Brief Bio: Soren used to be a poor kid on a poor planet named Seckeer. His parents were kind folk, but kindness doesn't pay the bills. Though his father being a renowned mechanic did (mostly), and his mother worked at a diner in one of the Hubs. Since he was young, Soren was enamored with the machines his father worked on: engines, robots, control panels, and more. His father eventually let Soren do the work sometimes, and soon enough he was as gifted as his father was.

Though said happiness couldn't last forever. Soon after the war reached it's 4-year milestone, The Draft came knocking. They wanted Soren. Without any other option, the Kavoys were forced to watch their son be taken away, against the will of everyone involved (save the officer). Though he hated it at first, Soren had a chance to apply his skills. He wowed many a superior with his extensive knowledge of machinery. So much, in fact, that they were fine with sending him to Luciferia for enhanced training. And so, our story begins...

Planet Bio: Seckeer (Seck-er (Sack with an 'e', and just 'er' not 'eer.' It looked better spelled that way).) is an arid, deserty planet, useful only for it's natural resources and prime location as a refueling station. Therefore, many military and other combat personnel, as well as thieves, ruffians, and the like, frequented the planet's many spaceports. Soon enough, towns sprung up around the ports, only enhancing the crime happening beneath the harsh desert sun. Sandstorms are frequent, and water not, while corpses are seen as commonplace in some towns. Beggars even more so: men abandoned in one of the ports, left to fend for themselves on one of the most dangerous planets out there.

Recently, the IFUW (in control of the planet) had set about improving the ports. Basically, now the ports are protected by low-density force fields that repel dust storms, and now the ports are more policed. That just means the riff-raff moved their shacks outside the fields (and police jurisdiction), and now are called "Fringes," while the main areas are called "Hubs."
