Would it be possible to apply as a spy/CIA-type, who might make the occasional trip into Saigon and do scheming spy-ish/political things in addition to more mundane things like interrogation or analysis of Viet Cong prisoners?

It's not in death throes, people have other things to do on weekends than RP on NS. Only if it's been silent for a week can you safely say it's dying.
