In a Land of Corruption (Sandbox RP, OOC)

Postby Terintania » Wed Sep 03, 2014 3:38 pm

Welcome to Eskilles, an alternate version of Earth where both fantasy and modern technology exist side-by-side. On this world, people live in Kingdoms, though these 'kingdoms' contain modern technology as well as magic, swords and bows. Corruption, a darkness that has plagued Eskilles since the very beginning of civilization, covers the norther lands and areas bellow, and is constantly spreading, a constant fear in everyone's minds and a constant danger in all mages. People, through varying means, fight off the Corruption, either with magic or with more physical means, though most civilians simply try to live their lives in peace. This is your home. Whether a King, a civilian, or a lone wanderer, you must live a life in this world, facing the dangers as they come.
___________________________________________________________________________________

This is a Sandbox, free-roam, do-whatever-you-want-as-long-as-it's-reasonable-within-the-world RP. You will live a normal life. As a king, you must care for your Kingdom, making sure that everyone has what they need and that your land is safe from the Corruption. How you do this is up to you to choose from.
As a civilian, you live your life as a resident of one of the existing Kingdoms. Your job can be any job that's reasonable and not totally just completely made up and unfitting for the world, just as long as you have the creator of the nation's permission to do a job that would directly affect them. As a wanderer, you wander the continents of Astianna, Leraven and Derakith, for whatever reason or another. You can change your position, as well. Perhaps if you're a wanderer, you could move into a Kingdom you like and become a civilian. If you're a civilian, you could decide to leave the safety of your home and become a wanderer. Who knows, perhaps you could even become a King, as unlikely as that might be.

SO, a thing to note is that I will be controlling the Corruption. The Corruption is completely under my control, and this shall be explained more, later. Also note that I will control the world, so any extreme weather, or droughts or anything like that will be in my control. I will also say if your Kingdom happens to be having food supply issues and stuff like that, so don't expect an easy-peasy life. Also, another thing to note is that this is MOSTLY fantasy with some modern aspects, so don't go expecting highways full of cars and whatnot. I'm also open to ideas of how to make this better.

Another thing is that I plan on trying to outline territories for each Kingdom. I'll try to outline it myself, but it may be hard for me to get it specifically where you want it, so I may end up trying something new with that, so, I'll keep you updated if I decide to try a different way.

Continents
Astianna
Astianna is a beautiful land, and contains more fantasy aspects then technology. It's also got the largest amount of mages of the three continents. Astianna's climate is varied, and though it's mostly forest and meadows, it has deserts and high mountains as well. Astianna is home to the Church of Light, and holds the least prejudiced against mages of the continents. The main religion of Astianna is the teachings of Aethalia. The people of Aethalia are a bright people, and like light colors such as gold. They will often have festivals and just all around fun.

Adwendokoth
Image

Adwendokoth consists mostly of snowy mountains, though down south the snow begins to fade away into lush green pine forests. The temperature is generally quite cold. Most edges of the province are avoided due to the Corruption, but particularly the north.

Meassi
Image

Meassi consists mostly of thick, mossy forests and deep caverns and crevices. The temperature is generally fairly cool, but not cold. It has no corruption, so people are able to wander the land freely.

Mireithiel
Image

Mireithiel is covered in plains and cliffs, most of which have waterfalls coming off of them. The temperature is generally moderate. A fairly good part of eastern Mireithiel is covered in corruption, so that area is avoided.

Areawen
Image

Aeawen is mostly plains and hills, but near the ocean there are some pretty awesome beaches. The temperature is generally moderate inland, and warmer near the oceans. It has no corruption to worry about.

Asothien
Image

Asothien is dotted all over with many large lakes, consisting of the runoff from Mireithiel. Other areas consist of a red desert, a swamp, and a large red forest. The temperature is generally rather warm, but not too much so. There is no corruption for them to worry about, though some of the water running from Mireithiel has been blocked off due to the water carrying the Corruption.

Leraven
Leraven is more mountains and cliffs then Astianna, though it still has it's fair share of forests and plains. Home to the Order, Leraven holds the most prejudiced against mages, though it is still quite mixed. Unlike the people of Astianna, the people of Leraven tend to be less bright and colorful, and the cities mirror this. Stony gray and silver are the colors of Leraven. That doesn't mean it's a bad place, though. It's just like America isn't as colorful as some other countries. They still have their fare share of festivals and fun. The main religion of Leraven is equal parts Mankarism and Kerallian

Chilikath
Image

Chilikath consists mostly of large cliffs and forests. The climate is generally rather cold. No one ever goes to the north, due to the ever-spreading Corruption.

Cerakoth
Image

Cerakoth is mostly flatlands and plains littered with a few forests here and there, with a large cliff dropping off to the ocean. The temperature is fairly reasonable, neither cold nor hot. The north-eastern part is usually avoided due to the Corruption.

Prekath
Image

Prekath is a mixture of mountains, plains, cliffs and beaches. The temperature is warm, sometimes uncomfortably so. It is the only province in Leraven that isn't yet affected by the Corruption.

Rhilinn
Image

Rhilinn is more tropical then the rest of Leraven, and is basically completely covered in rainforest. The temperature is hot in the summer, but quite cold in winter. Mostly unaffected by the Corruption, the residents of Rhilinn's main concerns are that the province may be cut in half by the Corruption.

Aoac
Image

Aoac consists mostly of swampland, though there are some plains. The forests are also generally swampy forests. The temperature is moderate most of the time. The entire western coast of Aoac is avoided, due to the Corruption.

Rin
Image

Rin consists entirely of deserts of different types. The temperature is generally scathingly hot during the day, and icy cold at night. Rin's western coast is covered in corruption, and thus, is generally avoided.

Derakith
Derakith, also known as the Forsaken Land, is the Corruption's land of origin. It was here that the Corruption first came in to existence, and here that the people first found a way to defend against the Corruption. Though the Corruption still spreads in Derakith, modern-day technology and magic mixed together has allowed the creation of Light Walls, walls of Light surrounding the boundaries of the unCorrupted lands. The only remaining people in Derakith are savage and dark lords who kill for power and for fun, and care for no one but themselves, and so they refuse to share the knowledge of how these Light Walls work, leaving the rest of the world to defend against the Corruption on their own. Though the Light Walls have greatly slowed the Corruption's spread, they do not stop it completely. The Corruption adapts, finding weaknesses in the walls, and so the people of Derakith must always change, moving the walls, fixing them, keeping their cities safe.

Derakith is a dark land that most people have no wish to ever set foot on. The lords are always fighting, and innocents are always dying in the fights. And always the Corruption looms closer to pushing them all off the land and claiming it for itself. The 'civilized' people left Derakith long ago, leaving it to the 'savages' and the Corruption, and the 'Savages' are simply too stubborn to leave. Some people believe that the Lords of Derakith are plotting to overthrow one of the other lands and take it as theirs. Whether this is true or not, who knows.

Mirewyr
Image

Mirewyr consists mostly of dark forests, some of which are burned. The temperature is generally rather chilly. Corruption is always a threat here, as the land of Mirewyr gets thinner and thinner.

Miremas
Image

There isn't much notable about Miremas. It's mostly just boring plain dirt lands, with very little plant growth. The most notable view is across the lake where you can see the Corruption, which it's strange lighting and glowing slow. The temperature is generally pretty cold. Like Mirewyr, Corruption is a pretty constant threat here.

Maoclya
Image

Maoclya is a rather intimidating looking land, with it's large, rocky, pointy mountains. The temperature is pretty moderate, depending on how high up you get. It's biggest threat of Corruption comes from the north.

Mages
The Mages of Eskilles are born with magic. It is impossible to learn magic. You must be born with the gift. Or the curse, as some call it. Overall, they are like your average mages. They learn magic and improve their skills and control over time. However, there are differences. Mages are the only people that the Corruption can posses, so Mages are often shunned and hated throughout the lands. All mages are forced to attend Magic School, where they not only learn to control and improve their magic, but they also learn to control their emotions. The Corruption can only posses a mage with Negative emotions, such as hate, anger or vengeance. If a Mage can control their emotions and block out the negative ones, they will be safe from the Corruption. Mages can be of any religion, including ones that reject magic.

(Note. If you choose to play a mage, if your character can't control their emotions, they can be taken over by the Corruption, whether you want it to or not.)

The Order
The Order is a order of people dedicated to wiping Magic off the face of Eskilles. They believe that without Mages to possess, the Corruption will be weakened and less able to spread. The Order is viewed with varying opinions from the people of Eskilles. Some agree with what they do, some despise them for the cold-blooded murder they often commit to remove the magic. Leraven is home to the headquarters of the Order. The Order rejects any religion that supports the use of magic, and will outright refuse to allow followers of those religions. Their main religion is Kerallian
Outfits of the Order:

Priests of Light
The Priests and Priestesses of Light are the main Church of Eskilles. They are an Order of Warrior Priests who dedicate their lives to fighting the Corruption. Mages who wish to enlist in the Church must enlist early in their training to be able to learn the special Light powers that is required to be a Mage Priest. For the non-mages, there is a wide variety of Magic-enchanted weapons, from swords and bows, to guns and rocket launchers. They are also the sole holders outside of Derakith of Light Walls, which are technological walls of light that hold back the Corruption. The Priests of Light follow the teachings of Aethalia.

The Tainted
The Tainted worship the Corruption, and are despised by basically everyone else on Eskilles. They live near or in the Corruption, and the Mages of the following willingly give themselves over to the Corruption. They bow to nothing but the will of the Corruption, and will often sacrifice Mages to it, allowing it to possess the poor mages' body.

The Teachings of Aethalia
The Teachings of Aethalia is the most prominent religion on Eskilles. It's said that the Godesss Aethalia created the world, the moon and the stars from locks of her golden hair, and then she breathed life on to Eskilles, literally. Satisfied with her creation, she settled in to the cosmos to watch over her creations in silence, letting them evolve and change to their will. For millions of years she was their silent watcher, until the Corruption came. It's said that she looked down upon the darkness, and upon seeing it's stain upon her masterpiece, she wept tears of light, granting the mages who were hit by these tears with the power of her Light, and then she left, turning her back on her creation to start anew.

The Teachings of Aethalia say to love your fellow man and animal with all your heart, and to give respect when killing either man or animal. The teachings say that mages are to be guardians of Man, and treated with equal respect.

Mankarism
Mankarism follows the God Mankar. It is the second most prominent religion on Eskilles. It's believed that, in bordom, Mankar created Eskilles and the life on it out of clay, and used them as his toys. Bored with his clay toys, Mankar took a spark out of a star and put one in each creature, giving it life, much to the anger of his father, Maetharal. Mankar, however, was happy with his creation, and refused to give back the life he had given. He threw such a tantrum that the world shook for so long that the mountains came to be, and cried so hard that he filled the oceans. Giving in, Maetharal let his son keep Eskilles to do with what he wished. He granted man free will, and gave them magic, as well as creating trees and plants. It's believed that the Corruption was created because Mankar was once again bored, and wanted something to stir things up a bit. Realizing his mistake, he tried to take it back, but it was too late. The Corruption had taken hold and wasn't going to let go. Mankar now watches over his world, no longer interfering unless deemed absolutely necessary.

Mankarism is a bit vague on it's teachings, but one that is clear is that mages are meant to be used to man's benefit, and that mages are lesser then normal people. It teaches that they must be controlled, their powers mastered. Why this is what people have taken their religion to mean, who knows.

Kerallian
Kerallian follows the Goddess Kerallia. Kerallia is said to be a strong, powerful woman in description. It's said that she and her husband, Eragorin created Eskilles together as a wedding present to each other. Eragorin created the ocean, the sky, the forest, the plants and all that is beautiful on Eskilles for his wife, while Kerallia created the mountains, the wind, volcanoes, the weather and all that is powerful on Eskilles. And then together they created life to live in their creation. During their creation, however, Eragorin's jealous brother granted Man with a piece of his own power, creating Magic. No mortal creation was ever supposed to be allowed the gifts of a God or Goddess, not even a fragment. Kerallia and Eragorin went down to Eskilles to fix it, but Man had already mastered these new abilities, and in the fight to remove the powers, Eragorin was killed. In a rage of anger and hatred, Kerallia created the Corruption, pouring her vengeance pain in to it, to punish the Mages. Once that was done, she turned her back on the world, leaving behind only her teachings for the world to follow, unable to handle the pain of looking down on what she and her husband had created.

Kerallian's main teaching is that magic is a scourge on Eskilles, and accident, and that all mages must be punished and killed.

The Cult of Corruption
The Cult of Corruption, or the Church of Corruption, follows the belief that the Corruption is a Holy Being, come to cleanse Eskilles and make it a better place to live, and to punish Man for it's sins against life.

The Tainted, as the followers of the Church of Corruption call themselves, mostly just believe that the Corruption is a Holy Being. They do what they can to help it spread, such as sacrificing innocent mages to the Corruptions control.

Note that some people's kingdoms are going to have these locations in them. If you want to claim one of these locations in your kingdom, just say so.

Headquarters of The Order

Image

Located in Leraven, this tower houses the leaders of the Order, and is their main headquarters. It is heavily fortified, located on a tall cliff in the middle of a lake. Placed around the base of the tower, on the rocks are many high-powered UV spotlights, and around the bottom of the tower is a thick strip of bright UV lights. On the top is a large, powerful spotlight. All of which is used as protection against the Corruption, should it spread far enough to reach it. There is also a barrier that prevents any magic working on the island.

The Cathedral

Image

The Cathedral is located in Astianna, and is the biggest and most successful magic school in Eskilles. It is the school that most of the Mages choose to go to for training, though they have high standards and train their students hard. Despite it's dark exterior, the interior is always light and bright, in both appearance and atmosphere. The reason for this is that it's believe there that if the students live in a bright place with a light atmosphere, the Corruption will be less likely to take hold, and it also promotes positive emotions. The bridges leading to and from the Cathedral are used by the Mages to get in and out of the city without possible negative emotions in the city. Mostly the younger, more emotional students are made to use these. It is located in the center of the capital of one of the Kingdoms.

Magi Mortis

Image

Magi Mortis, or 'Mages Death' is a place all mages fear. It's basically a prison. It's located in Derakith, inside the Corrupted zone. The Prison was made to house the mages that were beyond training, or were seen as too dangerous to roam free. It's believed that it's often that mages are wrongly imprisoned here and left to die. Once you enter Magi Mortis, there is no leaving, ever. No one who enters has ever been seen again. It's believed that the Mages are imprisoned, and then allowed to be corrupted, but trapped so that they can never leave and never harm anyone but each other. The tower is sealed with a seal from the Order, and thus can only be broken by the Order.

Church of Light

Image

The Church of Light is located in Astianna, and is home to the Priests of Light. It is protected from the Corruption with magical Light Barriers, and anti-corruption incantations written on the ground and the walls. This is a stronghold as much as it is a church, with their own armory of light-enchanted weapons and armor. As wielders of Light they are Eskilles' main line of defense against the Corruption. The church reflects it's occupant's beliefs, and constantly glows with an aura of light. It's quite the sight to behold. The Church of Light Worships the Godess Aethalia.

Church of Corruption

Image

The Church of Corruption is basically the opposite of the Church of Light. It's located near the edge of the Corruption in Derakith, and is home to the Priests of the Taint. They make no attempt to defend themselves from the Corruption, as they worship it as a God, basically. The church is more of a cult then an actual official church, and everyone typically avoids the building. Made to match the colors of the Corruption, the Church is often seen as a forbidden place to anyone outside of it.

Seat of Evil

Image

Once a beautiful land of trees and greenery, the Seat of Evil is named for the lord in which it's home to: The Lord of Corruption, the Corruption's main host form. The Seat of Evil is located in the center of an active volcano in the center of the corruption in Derakith, protected by the Lord of Corruption's magic. No one who is no Corrupted has ever set foot here, and some believe that this is the place that the Corruption came in to existence hundreds of thousands of years ago.

There is a lot to understand about Eskilles' main enemy, the Corruption. The first thing you have to understand it that it was a intelligent being. It may seem like a mindless virus, but it's alive and it's aware. It even feels emotions, though it's only capable of feeling negative emotions such as anger or hatred. The closest it comes to positive emotions is glee or amusement at other people's suffering. It can sense and feel every inch of land that's corrupted, see through the eyes of every animal that's been corrupted, and control every person that's been possessed. It's aware of everything it's ever touched all at once.

So with that in mind, a little background.

The Corruption has been a part of Eskilles since Man were still living in small tribes, littered over the world. No one knows exactly where it came from, and it just seemed to appear one day, and it's been spreading ever since. It started by simply slowly spreading by night, as the daylight would weaken it. It spent years before it found an animal to possess, and it did. It took control of the rabbit and used it to spread to other animals, which in turned allowed it to spread further faster. One day, it came to a village and possessed a young mage boy, then used that boy to destroy the village. From then it just spread and spread for the hundred thousand years or so since then. It's only thanks to the light magic that it hasn't taken over the whole world. But the Corruption is patient, and spreads slowly. It knows it can outlast the mortals.

Affects on the world
Image

The Corruption physically changes the land that it affects. The ground becomes dead and infertile for normal plants, and it blackens. Out of this grows black vines that cover the ground and strangle everything it's way. The trees a leafless and dead, the water turns an acidic green, which is matched by the fact that it is, in fact, acidic. Any cities within the Corruption become ruins, overgrown with blackened vines. The snow becomes a light-blue, and glows, the sky gets dark, cloudy, and a purplish color. The lightening is dark with a light-blue center, and darkens the sky rather then lightens it. Fire burns both hot and cold at the same time. The rain is as acidic as the water. In general, not very habitable. It's a land of death and constant night.

Affects on people

As well as affecting the land, the Corruption also physically affects the people it possesses. Their skin turns white, their lips purple. Their eyes turn completely black, with a pinkish color under their eyes. Their hair is generally black with streaks of blue and light blue-green. It's also fairly common for them to have designs of some sort of their head or face, like tattoos. As well as the physical affects, they also gain some Corruption magic, and their normal magical abilities change to Corruption magic. As well as that, who the person was, their personalities and their emotions, are entirely changes. They fill with anger and hatred, and all the negative emotions that the Corruption feels. Some loose their free will all together, and even the ones who keep it are under some control of the Corruption, even if it's just the influence of the darkness and rage. The Corruption can speak telepathically to any person he's possessed. It's basically one big hive mind. Being Corrupted also removes the need to eat or drink.

Affects on animals
Image

The animals that the Corruption possesses change quite drastically. Some, people don't even know what animals they originally were, they've changed so much. The best way for me to explain is with pictures. Above is a Corruption Viper. Very poisonous, but beyond that and the glowing light blue patches, it looks generally like a normal snake.

Image

Corrupted horses tend to look like normal horses, but with natural armor, and glowing light-blue eyes. They also have a sort of light-blue wisps coming off their feet.

Image

These large, reptilian creatures are unknown as to what they were before they were Corrupted. They are around 8 feet tall, and fierce, but slow. They are hard to kill and can take a lot of hits, but can't fit in to small areas.

[align=center]
Image
These creatures, called Corruption Spawn, are also unknown as to what they used to be. These creatures aren't all that threatening unless found in large groups.

Bio: Eliandra was raised in a family of the Order, and thus was taught of their ways early on. She understood the danger the Corruption posed through Mages, and she knew that if the Corruption wanted to, it could take the world in storm, through the use of Mages that it'd already possessed. She was always a bit...Unstable, in a way. When the Corruption sent mages to attack her home town and destroy it, her beliefs and instability were both strengthened. Eventually she rose in the ranks of the Order, to become the leader. Though some people question her sanity, she keeps them in check with her strength and determination, as well as with a bit of fear.

Gender: Female
Bio: Skipping for now.
Occupation: Mage Student
Faction: Mages
Religion: None
Magic: Elemental Magic:
Fire: She is able to cast a stream of fire from her hands. She can also conjure and control fire. She can only do the latter in a limited area, and once the fire is where she wants it, she can't move it again. (Example: If she creates a ring of fire around herself, or a line of fire to an enemy, it will remain on the ground once the spell is over, but she can't move it again, she can only put it out.
Lightening: She can conjure a lightening bolt by slamming the end of her staff down on the ground. She can control where it will hit, as well, but this spell is tiring, so she won't use it much.
Water: She can't really do much with water. She can move and shape existing water, but she can't conjure any.
Stone: She can cast a fist of stone from her hand. This spell can have a lot of force behind it, and is unpleasant to get hit by.
Air: She can create wind. Powerful wind, but not powerful enough to throw people around or anything. Maybe throw them off balance a little bit, but basically all it's good for is a distraction and to mess up any arrows.
Nature: She can conjure vines to do her bidding for her.
Magic Arrow: She can conjure a magical bow and arrow for one shot. Once she fires the shot, the bow disappears and she must conjure it again to fire again.
Familiar: She can summon two familiars. Her Firefox, which serves as nothing more then a companion, and her Moonstag, which is both a mount and a companion. She can only summon one at a time.

Name: Saulomon Thanor
Title(S): The Disgraced Prince, The Cursed Prince, Prince Of Ruin, The Fallen Prince, The Lost Prince.
House Name: Thanor
Sigil: This is his that he created for himself,, not his families
Image

Appearance:
Image

Age: 19
Gender: Male
Bio: Saulomon Thanor was raised a prince, and was well loved by his family as well as the people of the Kingdom. At the age of 18, he was attacked by a rare and magical creature, which only attacks people with hidden magic power, so basically people who aren't mages, but have the gene that can be unlocked. If the victim survives, they are marked, and their hidden magic is unlocked. This is what happened to Saulomon. It all would have been fine, if his kingdom and family weren't all strong magic haters. He was thrown out and disowned as 'cursed'. He has been traveling ever sense.
Equiptment: Rune Spellbook, Notebook, Staff, food and water, and various alchemy supplies.
Magic:
Rune Magic: Rune Magic is rare, and basically seen as a myth. It is powerful magic that allows the user to not be limited to one type of magic. If you know the right rune, it's possible to cast basically any spell. As a jack-of-all-trades type of magic, the spells are generally less powerful then the same spell from another mage would be.
There are a few limits to what Rune Magic can do, and some types of spells it can't do, such as Hector's Widow's Kiss spell.
Religion: Grew up a Kerallian, but is now agnostic, leaning towards The Teachings of Aethalia.

You are not allowed to claim a whole province as your territory.

Also, did Jameson go to a magic school? He also sounds like the kind of mage that would get possessed by the Corruption. If mages can't control their emotions, they would get possessed.

One time is enough. We can just say that he got lucky. If he loses control of his emotions again, however, chances are he'll be Corrupted.

Couple things, Sardian. One, how powerful is his earth magic, and what color do you want the outline of your kingdom to be on the map?

Sorry for missing those points. I'm sick, so my brain isn't working 100%
