Hre'Gar
Hre'Gar walked into the exercise room, clapping slow at the display of magic, nothing new to him. "So, showing the nonbeliever the truth, rivette?" He laughed at the amazement of some of the fellow crewmates at seeing magic. He looked around the room, and seeing that no one was being foolish, smiled at Silver for a New York sencond before going over to the bench press, setting the weight to 250, and getting into a pattern of 15 reps, with a 30 second break between each. He was not showing off, merely getting in his exercise for the day, he not having to do as much as the others because, because of a slightly higher clearance than some, and his internal clock, he had gotten to the room 30 minutes before anyone else, and was just taking a water break when he returned to witness the "magic".(-not sarcasm. Just lack of amazement)

Bentu clapped as he again caught up with the rest of the group. Honestly he didn't really know why he was staying with them. But, anyways he kept walking closer. "Impressive Rivette. I haven't seen a unicorn be able to do something like that in a long time," he said as he walked over to get some water.

Silver approached the group, her chest steadily expanding and contracting. The ten minute run was a great warm-up - for the first time in days, her blood was pumping quickly for a positive reason. She could hardly wait to continue. Exercising reminded her of her old life, which was wonderful to think about under the right circumstances after spending so long feeling dead inside.

"Enchanted, yes." she began. "A f-... An old friend of mine - a unicorn - pumped so much magic into this thing that she may as well have put her very soul into it. Part of the enchantment allows the leg to pull trace amounts of magic from the air around it to use as a constant power supply, as long as the core is never removed."

She sat on her haunches, beginning to fiddle with the strap on her chest with her teeth.

The golden fan of practicality split in two clumps, both plopping neatly back into Rivette's saddlebags, which she neatly zipped back up.

Rivette heaved a sigh of relief.

She always enjoyed doing that. It took a nominal amount of effort, and it allowed her a sense of warming nostalgia. Her father taught her how to do that; it reminded her of him.

Orangi wrote:"The twisting and the fanning and the... Just... I can't do that, can I? If I can I want to figure out how- seriously! Doubt I can but that's okay just... Wow. Wow! Honest to Zarren magic! I- I can't believe this! Oh I didn't give you enough credit- that was just... Amazing! And you said that's how her legs work?" Marran asked, gesturing at Silver, who just crossed the start line- not so long after Jonathan.

"That was incredible. Just... Wow. You've got to-... Tell me, tell me you have cards here. I want to see you shuffle a deck so badly. You have no idea."

"Th-thank you. I just wanted to show you what we can do. And yeah, Silver's leg works like that. Well, kinda. Enchanting's a little different."

"And I could shuffle some cards for you. It certainly would be easier," she chuckled.

Rivette liked talking about what she knew, and she was in her element.

The Floor Kippers wrote:"Fantastic," Jonathan gasped at Rivette's display. Magic was less of an impossibility to him, he had heard whisperings of beings with these sort of powers on his travels, and he had merely dismissed them as over active imaginations, until now, "Can everyone on your world do that? Can anyone do that full stop? Where does the energy come from? Is it limitless? How much can you lift in one go?"

"Um, OK...um...you mean levitation? No, only unicorns can do that. If you mean the...display, then no, not even all unicorns can do that. Levitation is like a skill: you can get better at it. I needed to learn how precisely handle small implements and doodads for my work, so I did." What you just saw was just a showing of that ability. An old trick my father used to do with balls.

"Where it comes from...all ponies are born with an innate spark of magic. How it can be used depends on the race. Unicorns can direct and project their magic at will with their horn," Rivette explained, poking her alicorn appendage with her hoof. "Pegasi and earth ponies, on the other hoof, use it more through her bodies. Pegasi use magic to walk on clouds, manipulate the weather, and well...fly, while earth ponies use it to kinda...sense of the ebb and flow of the world around them. I'm probably not doing that justice; Silver can probably explain it better."

"Let's see...limitless? No, it is not limitless. It can be drained. But everypony has potential. I liken it to physical fitness in a way. The more you use it, the more you strain it, the more you can do."

"And...lifting? Me personally? I'm better at fine manipulation than straight-up weight-lifting. Maybe...500 pounds? That'll hurt me, though, if I'm not careful."

"Um...I think that's everything. Anything else?"

Rivette scrunched. "Just a demonstration, Hre."

Rude, scaly fellow. Not that she thought any less of him because of his race; he just didn't seem like one for polity.

Then again, neither was she. She was more reclusive about it, though.

Rivette smirked and blushed like a schoolgirl, rubbing her mane with her hoof. "Th-thank you, Ambassador. Just some silly trick from my fillyhood days."

"Woah, that is...that's pretty advanced stuff. Certainly possible, though."

Rivette really needed to look at that leg now. She only read about such enchantments in books. Examining at that would certainly be fascinating and illuminating. And being close to Silver would be the delicious, crimson-maned icing on the cake.

She did not think that metaphor through.

"Thank heavens I'm not a physicist," Jonathan said, a look of amazement still on his face, "If I was I'd be having a little cry in the corner now and abandoning that career path."

A smile crossed his face as he though of another question.

Come on, you son of a...

There was a sharp click, and one end of the plated strap suddenly disconnected from the base of Silver's artificial limb. She slowly slid it off of her torso, then pulled the stubby remains of her real leg from the metallic prison. The cool air was shocking, but it felt good to let it breathe.

"There we go," she said, placing the heap of metal beside her.

"We earth ponies use magic to greatly increase our strength, endurance, and general hardiness." Silver explained, puffing her chest out and raising her chin. "We're also gifted with the ability to help plants grow with a bit of magical help; though that skill must be practiced. Not just any of us can do it on the spot - I've never planted a single crop in my life. Nevertheless, you can bet your plot that the best farmers in the galaxy are almost exclusively earth ponies."

Hre'Gar was done exercising for now, and was listening to the others talk

"That's interesting silver! But do earth ponies prefer growing a Certain crop, or do they grow what's in demand?" His interest was piqued. Hre'Gar always enjoyed learning new things..

Silver took note of the strange lizard-man, furrowing her brow slightly in thought. His species was by far the most exotic she had seen since she boarded the Odysseus.

"I don't know much about farming since I've never been involved with it, but I do know that earth ponies can grow just about anything. There is no specific crop we excel in - though I've heard that the apples from some places are damn good." she explained. "So, to answer your question, they probably grow whatever is most needed or convenient."

Hre'Gar laughed, not a cruel laugh, as many would think a Lizan would do, but a happy laugh, " thanks for the information, Silver! It's very interesting." He smiled, but on a Lizan, it doesn't look that kind, or happy, but slightly scary, something the Lizan didn't know

Silver narrowed her eyes as the alien's face twisted into a somewhat creepy smile. He sounded genuine, but didn't quite look it. She wasn't sure what he was trying to accomplish.

"...You're welcome." she said after a brief silence. "Say... How do you know my name? I don't believe we've met."

Hre'Gar's smile faltered. "Oh, uh... I just heard the others call you Silver, so I thought it was you name..." He sighed"look, I'm sorry if me know your name creeped you out... My name is Hre'Gar,"
He outstretched a hand, then looked at his claws and was reminded he didn't exactly look friendly doing so, so he dropped it down to his side

"No need to be so self conscious." Marran said as he got up and outstretched an also clawed, but fuzzy hand to Hre'Gar. "Marran Varri. Chie-... Resident. Resident aboard The Odysseus. Prior service. Glad to make your acquaint-"

"What?" Marran said, his eyes shifting upwards to the floating screens in the area. All the hustle and bustle in this district compared to the residential one made it feel so more more alive, and the other one almost like a storage facility. Thinking back to his room, that's basically what it is. A thought that didn't really sit with him too well, though he'd lived in tighter quarters before, amazingly. The apartments back home were not so much apartments as they were enclosed beds with storage, heating and cooling. The complexes were primarily indoors and extremely social environments. So while the change wasn't very difficult for him, it was definitely a different mindset altogether. But, that we neither here nor there.

"Huh. Hey, guys. What do you make of that?" Marran asked, looking back to his compatriots.

"Little bit concerned about the lack of democratic due process," Jonathan said, his brow furrowed at the announcement, "I know we're not in the best of situations, but you can't afford to let those kind of standards slip, even at the worst of times. I've seen what happens to worlds when people do let those kind of standards go, it was never very pretty. But then on the other hand, democracy has never been perfect."

He shrugged.

"As long as they don't start abusing power, then really, I don't think we'll have too much to worry about though."
