And yet heretics may find solace in each other's arms- because heresy is in the eye of the beholder.

Interesting tidbit: The Roman Catholic Church is against the UN's oppression of nonmetas.

And the UN can't do a damn thing about it, because:
  1. The Vatican isn't a UN member
  2. The Swiss Guardsmen coincidentally all became some of the most powerful metahumans on Earth. This may be evidence that Megami likes the Swiss.

Of course it still lets its members choose for themselves whether to be for or against the UN's stance, and it hasn't excommunicated anyone yet.

Megami is the feminine form of Kami. Other that that, I do not know of any specific reference.

Name: Koumoto Hikaru [光本 光]
Age: Hundreds of years old.
Nationality: Japanese
Occupation: Nope.
Height: 4'11" (150 cm)
Weight: 1-2 lbs (0.5-1 kg). He weighs himself down with stones tied to his belt so that he doesn't fly away in the wind.
General Appearance/pic:
  • Lantern form: Usually like this, but he can sprout arms and legs like this at will.
  • Human form: Image.
Powers/abilities:
  • He has a prehensile tongue that can extend up to 10 m (11 yd); and which is extremely strong, being able to constrict people to death and lift up to 200 lbs (90 kg) with relative ease, and up to 300 lbs (136 kg) with relative difficulty. He also has a supernatural sense of taste.
  • Light manipulation (he can control and produce light to a high degree; including basic [i.e. flawed] illusions and light constructs that last about 30 seconds at the most). His eyes flicker yellow-orange when he uses this.
  • Fire manipulation (he can increase the heat in an area as well as control and produce fire to a high degree). His eyes flicker yellow-orange when he uses this.
  • Transformation between lantern and human forms.
  • He doesn't have to eat, drink, or sleep, though he can. Also, he doesn't age. He can, of course, die though, from pretty much anything that will kill a human.
Weapons: Nope.
Personality: Hikaru is quite childish in his temperament, and enjoys pestering others. However, he has a deep understanding of humanity, having seen many atrocities throughout history, though his perspective is that of an observer, so while he is rarely surprised by humans he doesn't always know why they do certain things. On the other hand, his understanding of death is limited: he knows that when people die they go away, but he doesn't quite understand the finality of it. As such, while he does not take pleasure in killing, he feels little to no remorse for doing so. He lacks a feeling of self-worth stemming from his abandonment when he was inanimate, and this combined with his limited comprehension of death can sometimes cause Hikaru to place himself in precarious situations. His feelings are easily hurt, and he occasionally throws tantrums that more often than not involve the source of his frustration burning to death. Occasionally, he shows a surprising amount of maturity, but these are few and far between. It is possible that he withdraws into his childish persona to escape from bitter reality, but then again, maybe not.
Likes: Teasing people, licking people, having fun.
Dislikes: Bullies, people who stop playing with him before he wants them to (i.e. people whom he accidentally kills), people who hurt him.
Bio: Hikaru was once a chouchin, a type of Japanese lantern, hundreds of years ago. However, his owner died a few years after building him, and he fell into disrepair. So 100 years after he was built, Hikaru woke up. An eye popped out of him, and a tear in his side developed into a mouth with sharp teeth and a long prehensile tongue. Perhaps a bored kami had taken pity on him, or maybe it was simply a natural process, but that was irrelevant to him. Alone, confused, and without a flame within him, Hikaru stayed where he was for some time before he realised that he could sprout legs when trying to stretch, and promptly ran away from the abandoned shack where he had been born.

The youkai soon found a village and began playing with the young children, tasting them and entertaining them, before the adults discovered him and chased him away. Maybe he squeezed one of the children too tightly when licking them; it's either too hard to remember so far back or he simply chooses not to. Anyway, it was a few weeks later that he discovered his ability to transform into a human, and he was once again able to return to society. This time, he received a warmer welcome from the adults, though not much more so; basically, he wasn't run out of town like the last time, but few people wanted to clothe and feed him.

He spent almost a decade there before people realised that he didn't age. They already knew that there was something off about him -- especially about his tongue -- so at that point, they again ran him out of town. However, by then he had heard many folk tales about the youkai of the archipelago, and knew that he was a chouchin-obake, a tsukumogami, and as such could never be completely a part of human society.

Hence, he travelled. He lived on the roads for almost a century, and during that time discovered the rest of his abilities. He lived a carefree life, playing tricks on travellers that he encountered on the road and licking everyone he met. Often they lived to tell the tale; sometimes, they went to sleep when he squeezed them too tightly.

After a few more centuries, he realised that there were lands beyond Japan, and took a boat to China (he may or may not have stowed away), proceeding to travel around Asia and, later, Europe. It has now been over 150 years since he left Japan and almost 50 years since he discovered Europe.
Current location/situation: He's in Paris licking people.
RP sample: Nope.

Most metas can't see through the cloaking since most metas don't have the ability to see through holograms, statistically speaking. Elisa can because she's used to making holograms herself, the Gendarmerie captain can because he has greatly enhanced senses (And can smell the humans past it), and Sous-Lieutenant Gagnon can see through it because his ability is a sort of semi-visible radar, which passes through the hologram.

Got it. So the illusion is that the tunnel is a storage room - when you look down the tunnel, you see a storage room. Is that it?

Correct. A useful disguise, though the back door and ceiling of the hologram isn't solid.
