We've still got a few days before I launch the IC (I'm hoping for Thursday) and if you have an idea for a school please tell me and I'll see if we can put it up.

By the way guys, if you know anybody who might like this thread please tell rm'. I wouldn't mind a few more people. (Especially a woman since we have none so far).

I'd give you a cookie, but they don't work over the internet. Except for those ones that collect information, and those aren't edible.

This looks extremely promising. I've been inactive here for quite some time, but now I'm having two months holiday and plenty of time to post... :p

Name: William Mandrake
Age: 25
Gender: male
Sorcerer or Mortal: sorcerer
Role in society (Citizen, member of Government, soldier ect): citizen
School of Magic: Necromancer
Appearance: Slim, dark hair, piercing grey-blueish eyes. Wears suits that are mostly a decade out of fashion.
Personality: sarcastic, chauvinistic, sardonic. He generally lost fate into humanity as a whole.
Skills & strengths: William is an intelligent young man and very good at reasoning and deducting. He has an aptitude for magic, although he doesn't use it publicly.
Weaknesses: William has no experience whatsoever in physicial combat -or in fact any sort of combat- without magic.
Bio:

William Mandrake was born as the youngest son in a family of british landowners. His father, count Montcerf was a man of greath wealth and influence. The Montcerfs were publicly known as sorcerers (although they preferred the soubriquet 'Gentlemen Scholars in Arcane Studies') and had a lineage that can be traced back tothe great dr. Dee himself. Count Montcerf used a lot of his fortune to keep the Tories in power in the United Kingdom. Behind the screens, he influenced their stance on magic and sorcerers, striving for a peaceful co-existence of mortals and sorcerers.

When the situation became more and more grim the Montcerfs fled to their estates on Northern-Ireland taking with them large portions of their fortune, their library and a large number of magically gifted friends. Settled in Ireland, the family tried to rebuilt their lives. William, by then Viscount Montcerf, had shown talent for necromancy and a string of teachers were found to educate the young man. The rumours of dead roaming their lands did not help the reputation of the family, who tried to steer clear of obvious magic. To make it worse, Count Montcerf was a staunch supporter of English rule in Ireland and the supremacy of the Church of England in religious matters.

In 2005 things reached a boiling point. Furious citizens invaded the Montcerf Estate and slaughtered all. Count Montcerf died whilst immolating four of his assailants at the same time. His wife, William's mother, was shot before the eyes of her son. William was saved by the kindness of a kitchen maid, who helped him escape towards the border of Northern Ireland. The crime was covered up by the English government afterwards.

He settled down in a property in Dublin and swore to hide his magical abilities from the rest of the world, focusing on leading a normal life. William however soon found out that the Irish were not so keen on the sons of English aristocracy and he made very few friends. Even the political world -a normal place for wealthy young men) did not receive him with open arms. Nowadays the necromancer divides his time between Canada, where his last relatives live (including an elderly aunt who refuses to dreap dead to enable his inheritance) and the city if Dublin that forms his last link with his home country of England. Most of his time is spent in his library where he studies ancient mansucripts and crumbling scrolls.

Equipment: A silver topped cane that helps him walking, since a bullet crushed the nerves in his right leg.

Pity how there seem to be less and less female characters in RPs, over the past two or three years.
I've noticed that a fair number of people who RP such characters tend to vanish from NS. :(

Name: Edric Saren
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sorcerer or Mortal: Sorcerer
Role in society (Citizen, member of Government, soldier ect): Student/school
School of Magic: Telekinesis
Appearance: Tall(ish, around 5.11ft), slender. He has rather messy brown hair and hazel eyes. He wears casual clothes usually, but also likes pea coats a fair amount.
Personality:

Intelligent, kind & friendly to a degree, but also snarky, sarcastic and lazy.

He generally likes to solve problems using his intelligence and knowledge, rather than through brute force or snap decisions. This can make him seem a little cautious and indecisive, but also makes him more dangerous in the long run. However, when emotions get the better of him, he becomes more reckless and wild (this includes with his powers)

He also does have some pretty crushing insecurities (some are like most teenagers, but aggravated by the fact he is a sorcerer). These mainly include loneliness/depression, fears about discovery, general doubt of self-worth, etc.

Skills & strengths: sneaky, observant & perceptive nature, intelligence, kindness (both a strength and weakness),
Weaknesses: Insecurity, physical strength/battle experience, somewhat trusting,
Bio:

Born to a wealthy urban family in London, Edric was afforded the privileges of wealth for some time, without being shunned for his magical nature. He gained an balanced education there, and though he had friends, was still slightly lonely. His abilities manifested themselves around the age of 12, and he has kept them hidden (except to a trusted few) ever since.

However, since the UK's fairly anti-magical stance and popular fear of sorcerers, he is quite reserved about them, and tends to keep them well hidden. This means he is largely untrained in sorcery, despite his natural talent, which he makes up for by using his instincts.

He is going to the Trinity College Dublin, ostensibly to continue his studies (history), but also on the vague knowledge that this place may help him learn more about his powers, and to gain greater understanding. To this end, he arrived two months before term starts.

Equipment: Books - both of magic and mundane matters, and an astrolabe with certain magical properties that have not been deciphered (currently the best he can do is make it glow with a blue light).
Additional info:
RP Example: uhhmm, I've done a fair amount of RPs, but none quite like this (most of mine weren't character driven). So here are the closest things I could find:

Thanks!

uhmm about the astrolabe, to be honest I was just brainstorming for good ideas. It doesn't have to be anything of major importance, but it might hold some significance later (basically if I think up something good and relevant for it).

Perhaps it could sense for others with magical abilities? (a bit cliche but still...)

Furious citizens incited (and supported) by the New World Order invaded the Montcerf Estate and slaughtered all. Count Montcerf died whilst immolating four of his assailants at the same time. His wife, William's mother, was shot before the eyes of her son. William was saved by the kindness of a kitchen maid, who helped him escape towards the border of Northern Ireland.

Equipment: A silver topped cane that enhances his necromancical ability.

And was I accepted?

I am so sorry! I missed your post completely.

Now, there are just two minor problems;
1) The NWO is anti-mortal, not anti-Sorcerer. The only major anti-sorcerer organisation is TUGAS, and they're much too big to deal with little matters like single sorcerer families.
2) The staff: Magic enhancement is not really a thing. I have ideas but as of now in the RP there are no possible ways to do it.

1) Crap. I think that I misread that. I'm so sorry. Is it too much to assume his family was slaughtered by the local populace?

2) Point taken. He'l just walk with a ordinary cane. Might still be used to club somebody :p

It could be possible if they had guns and took them by surprise I suppose. If the post has been altered, you're accepted.

So Kryton, you're Irish eh? That's interesting, I'm gonna guess you're a tad superstitious along with the other Celtic cultures like Welsh and Breton

Could my character be part of an agency within the Sorcerers of the World for the purpose of finding criminal sorcerers, or assisting mortal law enforcement in so doing?

EDIT: Or, what if I was a sorcerer undercover in a TUGAS-related organisation undercover in Ireland hunting down sorcerers?

That sounds quite a cool idea... would be fun to RP having a misunderstanding that gets violent or something like that (or other ideas) :)
I used to run an alliance, and a region. Not that it matters now.
