Don't worry. The largest city of ATL Portugal in 1970 will be Tangiers (at the time, Cidade de Cristo, renamed in 1932 by the Estado Novo) at 1.2 million (83% Portuguese, 17% Arab), ahead of Lisbon at around 900,000 (virtually all Portuguese) and Porto (about 450,000). But since the independence of Portuguese Morocco, Lisbon is the largest city at around 3.5 million. Tangiers remains the largest city in Maroccos (and in 1974 became the capital), at 1.2 million (about 90% Arab), with Rabat being at only 0.6 million (in 1970, it was the forth largest in Portugal at around 300,000 people, with 60% Portuguese, 40% Arab, now, it is about 100% Arab).

Then again, Tangiers/Cidade de Cristo was the capital of one of five provinces that made up the former "Southern Provinces" (Esperanca Province, to be precise) during the Estado Novo. Add to that Madeira and Canaries, the Azores, as well as the OTL 11 provinces established by the Estado Novo plus Galicia, and basically, Portugal has 19 provinces from 1936 to 1974.

So yeah, I won't mind a colonial city larger than the largest city in the metropole.

France is more likely to give the Dutch and Germany what they want then Italy, as Corsica is considered an integral part of the French colonial sphere and simple refueling measures aren't going to cut it. Expect cash from France to you boji or war, even though thats the last thing lachapelle wants to do.

Yes, but Tangiers is close to Portugal, and was for a time majority-Portuguese. Jiaozhou is on the other side of the world, and will always be majority-Jiaozhouan(because by the time of the purchase in 1893, most Jiaozhouans no longer consider themselves Chinese, and by the present almost no one considers the Jiaozhouans to be Chinese outside of China).

Once the Netherlands reclaims Nord Pas-de-Calais, I think I might have Wilhelmina coronated as the Queen of Burgundy. :P

Burgundy is in south-central and east-central France. It's closer to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy.

Maybe I should confer her the title Queen of Austrasia, for shiggles. REVIVING OLD CAROLINGIAN CROWNS? YES PLS

Or maybe confer Wilhelmina the rights as a Keizerin.

Keizerin Wilhelmina, Keizerin van Nederland, Koningin van Indonesië en Borneo, Groothertogin van Vlaanderen, Wallonië, Luxemburg en Pretoria, Hertogin van Bourgondië en Verdediger van het Kanaal. :P

Yeah, it was from basically the mid-1940s to 1974 when after the Estado Novo and a Unilateral Disengagement Plan (Portuguese institutions would be abolished on June 15 at noon and all Portuguese soldiers would leave, basically giving it independence), virtually all the Portuguese left, leaving only 15,000 (14,000 in Tangiers, 250 in Rabat, rest in various towns). In 1970, the population of the Southern Provinces was around 10-11 million with a 2/3rds Arab majority, so the total population of Portugal would probably be about 24.2 million.

Basically, for a while, Tangiers (and other areas with former Portuguese majorities) would be about as empty as OTL Phnom Penh during the Khmer Rouge when they ordered virtually everyone to leave the city, with only the Arab quarters really inhabited.

But then again, I could make the former Southern Provinces into a not!Rhodesia and have it be "sovereign" by the Portuguese settlers as the Republic of Tingitana which would discriminate against Arabs for at least 15 years. But really, I have no clue, so I think I may probably go the Uni path and decide that on x day, y and z make a speech. If y gets shot on x date, Portuguese Morocco would become an Islamic Republic. If z gets shot, Portuguese Morocco would either become a Nasserist state or a constitutional monarchy.

NORD-NEUGUINEER WELLE NEWS-in-BRIEF August 31, 2014
Deutsch - Tok Pisin - English - other

CZECH FORCES TAKE VIENNA AND PUSH GERMANY'S NORTH LINE BEHIND THE CURTAIN; FRONTS WITH DENMARK, HUNGARY HOLDING
In the latest string of military trouble for Berlin in the Crisis of 2014, the Czechoslovak Armed Forces successfully pushed German forces in the north back to the Iron Curtain and captured the city of Vienna in the south, according the the Czechoslovak Ministry of Defense. It has also been reported that attempts by Germany to make advances into Denmark and Hungary have failed, leaving Germany humiliated by its former vassals. The move comes amid increasingly strict sanctions globally, which have wracked the German economy and made it increasingly isolated. Despite international opposition, support for the German government and the war remains high in Germany, where many believe that the claims made by Czechoslovakia, Denmark, and Hungary are without basis in fact.
KHRISTENKO NOMINATES REPLACEMENTS FOR EAU COMMISSION PRESIDENT AND FOREIGN MINISTER
Eurasian Commission President Viktor Khristenko of Russia has announced the replacements for himself as EAU Commission President and for EAU Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton of the UK. In 2015, he and Ashton will be replaced by Polish President Donald Tusk(who will not seek reelection after his presidential term expires in 2015) and Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini, respectively. The move continues the tradition of the Commission President being Eastern European and the Foreign Minister being Western European. Speaker of the Eurasian Parliament Jose Manuel Barroso, of Portugal, will retain his office until the next EAU Parliamentary elections, in 2019.
'MILLIONS' PARTICIPATE IN CONTINUING ANTI-CHINESE PROTESTS IN JIAOZHOU
Ruprecht Tsang, Governor of the Kiaotschou Mandate, told the press that 'millions are marching in opposition to China's plans of conquering Jiaozhou," saying that nearly four million Jiaozhouans- a quarter of the mandate's population- marched in opposition to China, which has proposed various plans calling for the transition of Jiaozhou to Chinese rule. Jiaozhouans, who are largely independent, use a different alphabet than most Chinese, and have been German since the 1830s, do not consider themselves Chinese, and view Germany as a guarantor of progress and China as backwards and unfree. Many Chinese, however, view Jiaozhou as rightfully Chinese territory. A 2003 referendum in Jiaozhou found 97% of Jiaozhouans were opposed to Chinese rule over Jiaozhou, even under a 'one country, two systems' situation. This has not, however, changed China's stance.
LUFTHANSA CARGO PLANE SHOT DOWN BY POLISH AIR FORCE OVER GDYNIA
German airline Lufthansa has said that the Polish Air Force used surface-to-air missiles to shoot down a Lufthansa Cargo jetliner flying from Stettin to Königsberg, killing all on board, saying that the plane was carrying supplies to the isolated German region of Prussia, which has been hit hardest by global sanctions against Germany. Poland did admit to shooting down the plane, but maintains that the planes are likely carrying weaponry to Prussia in the hopes of creating a new front. The EAU has announced that an investigation into the plane's cargo will be initiated immediately. If Lufthansa is telling the truth, then Poland may be charges by Germany with denying access to humanitarian aid, a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.
24 CENTRAL AMERICAN MINERS HAVE BEEN RESCUED FOLLOWING MINE COLLAPSE
Central America's Deputy Interior Minister that 24 gold miners had been rescued after several days, and 'were in good health' after heavy rain caused the mine's main shaft to collapse. The miners were freelance miners, not employed by any company. The mine in question, owned by a firm in Tawantisuyu, was declared 'unsafe' by the firm and the URCA alike, and that they had warned against entering the mines due to the risk of a landslide sealing the mine shut.
OVER 3,000 INFECTED WITH EBOLA ACROSS WESTERN AFRICA- AND IT COULD WORSEN, WHO WARNS
With ebola spreading into Mauritania and The Gambia from Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, the World Health Organization warned that 3,000 West Africans have been infected by the deadly disease, that 1,500 had already died, and that 20,000 others were at risk of catching the disease. The epidemic has grown steadily in spite of attempts to halt its spread- African borders are notoriously porous, living conditions are generally squalid, and a large number of West Africans are uneducated about the dangers of ebola(with many believing it to be fictionalized). The Volta and Kamerun have both increased attempts to close their borders with infected countries, and the infected countries- Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, the Gambia, and Mauritania- have all taken steps to quarantine the infected and prevent the disease's spread.

Long story short, you would need to control actual Burgundy to have Wilhelmina crowned its Queen. And you only control it's outlying territories.

An upside to ATL -- The Munich Massacre doesn't occur. Without Israel, those specific athletes would be part of the Rumite team, and Black September wouldn't exist.

Uh, no. 5 is debatable. :p

But for the Great Leap Forward, it'd be on a smaller scale and more successful in Shengdan/Christmas Island from 1976 to 1985, as well as a Cultural Revolution at the same time with two aims: to rebuild the island after the war of independence against Australia and to rid the culture of any Australian influence and emphasizing Aborigine and Chinese cultures (i.e. Maoist).

Welp, Spain has invented the first aircraft carrier, but with zarigodas (Zeppelins) which are now being planned to be mass-produced by Spain in both the fast moving Gunship class and medium-moving Bomber class, both of which are still much smaller than the traditional Zeppelin, only being the size of a regular house or so, but a little longer.
Spain will likely also make a few really large zarigodas that are the size of the German, CSA, and British ones (The classic larger ones) and make the undercarriage bigger but also less weaponized so that transport trucks (When they're invented and for now lots of supplies can be carried on them. Some of these may be flamable yes, but that's why they're going to be escorted. These will be called (Such original) Transport Zarigodas. :p

Anyway, if Portugal wants into this new program, Spain will be willing to give them to them cheaper since they're not as advanced economically yet, in exchange for the actual price to be paid decades later in return, as well as having them share technologies of their own they discover cooperatively.

yawn, your whole program will die out as soon as aeronautical engineering kicks in. I'm surprised someone hasn't invented flight yet in the 1890s.

Then I suppose Italy fights on.

Is there nothing else France can give you short of Corsica?

I object to Norway inventing the automobile.

The year 1886 is regarded the year of birth of the modern automobile—with the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, by German inventor Karl Benz. Motorized wagons soon replaced animal-drafted carriages, especially after automobiles became affordable for many people when the Ford Model T was introduced in 1908.

It was invented before Part III started by Karl Benz. The first "assembly line" motor car wasn't produced until 1908 by Henry Ford, who would be either a Confederate or a is Canadian. (born in Michigan)

I also charge that Norway would not have the industrial resources, nor the infrastructure to invent or mass produce the automobile anyway -- the only other plausible "inventor" of the automobile could be a French person. >>
