OK, so I might have the Netherlands join the AU's currency union so it permits greater interoperability with the colonies and such. The Dutch would get the advantage of being a direct partner with China and Japan, and Japan would get the benefit of European countries using their currency.

The Dutch would call it the "new guilder", the Rumites would call it the lira, etc. ^^

In 1947, Japan detonates it's atomic bomb, and a year later, the CSA does, there is a short nuclear arms race between the two before Emperor Alexander II and the CS President meet at Sangoshima or Pearl Harbor and hash out a way to end the arms race. By 1963, Japan and CSA are "friendly rivals". When Kennedy is assassinated, the CSA and Japan formally ally for the first time ever, mending what was left of the bad blood between the two.
