Pope Honorius III writes a reply back to Andrew II

My personal thanks Andrew, we accept this grand Alliance with most ease and wish to offer compensation for the crusade as soon as it is over. We wish to also contribute to the terms with the following:
A reserve supply of 400 Italian militia ready to send to you whenever you wish
You may join the Papal Catholic United Union, as the first member, to lead and organise current and future crusades
One additional Priest accepted into the College of Cardinals, each Kingdom only has one currently
I hope this answer is what you hope and more.
With Blessings Pope Honorius III of the Papal States

Andrew II writes

My greetings you, you excellency Pope Honorius III
I would like to join and be the leading member of the Papal Catholic United Union to lead and organise current and future crusades.
I would also like to join Szeged's Arch-Bishop Károly Rácz to the Colllege of Cardinals.
With faith King Andrew II of Hungary.

The Pope writes back to confirm acceptance

Thank you for excepting the Union request and we will be happy to accept the Arch-Bishop into the fold.

Hungarian Military Camp in Sibiu-Magyar katonai tábor Nagyszeben

It was a cold day and it was snowing. Andrew II was sitting in his tent with his geographers that follow him in his every journey. Andrew II says "A bit to the East and now to the north, our new map has to be a good one." a soldier gets inside Andrew II's tent and says "We have captured Venice." and Andrew II says "You came in to the right time, we just make the map and from now and then you're a sergeant, now please go outside and play in the snow as everyone does." one of the geographers says "We should add Venice as one of territories you excellency." Andrew II says "Yes and I will name it Territorium autem blandus Venetorum which means Venetian Winning Territory in Latin."

Rijeka-Opatija Area-Fiume-Abbázia terület

People in the area are celbrating the capture of Venice which is the most important Hungarian capture for centuries. The dance and party never stop and the days are warm there. The people celebrate in the beaches, the ports, the city centres, the churches even in the forests. They surely have a great time there. A lot of wine has been drank and a lot of food has been consumed.

Budapest East Gate-Budapesten keleti kapu

After months of working, Béla IV's workers have finished working on fortifying the city of Budapest and the fortresses and the walls and the gates are ready to help in the city's defence. Béla IV says to the ruler "This are great results, I think my dad will make you Dalamtia's duke for this excellent work." the ruler says "And I will fortify my favourite Dalmatian city, Split as I always wanted to and I will also fortify Dubrovnik as well." Béla IV says "Why Dubrovnik?" the ruler says "Dubrovnik is your most southernmost important city and we really want to get in the Mediterranean sea." Béla IV says "We already are Adriatic sea's epicenter why be Mediterranean sea's epicenter?"
the ruler says "Because we will have sea power and we will conquer the best ports and have the richest country." Béla IV says "That makes sense." after this phrase they leave to see the walls.

After the Scottish messenger returned the Pope says "It is unfortunate that Scotland is unable to aid us in this terrible conflict, I sort to end their war with our war, but it seems they are against this". The Pope calls the messenger again. "Send this letter to them, we must intervene, but not with a crusade, yet some sort of force."

The letter contains a request to provide Papal States assistance to bring peace to Britain.

Scotland, his excellency the Pope, Honorius III, wishes to send 100 of his 4000 Italian militia to bring peace to Britain. He wishes to notify you that he wants your support and without it the crusade may not be as he wanted. These soldiers will be sent through the Papal States Fleet of one of the two Galley Fleets from Rome's port through the Mediterranean sea, up through the Iberian Peninsula and up to York where an embassy for Papal aid on both sides will be constructed and protected.

Vatican Building Area-Vatikán Építési terület
1000 workers from Hungary as promised started to build the Basilica of Saint-Petrus and the workers broughtmaterial from Hunagry plus the material bought by the Papal States will make a really beautiful church that will be a world landmark. A surprising visit is King Andrew II's with the workers and some protection from 50 soldiers to protect him and the pope. In the building area he sees the workers and the leading face of them and Andrew II says "How's work here, I want the Basilica of Saint Petrus to be great and impress the pope. Now if you excuse me I am going to see the pope."

Finally, he decided to send the following letter to the pope
To the pope, leader of the Catholic religion, head of the Papal States,
We would be happy to assist you in the war against the Bulgarian Tzardom, and we will aid you if you can get the Kingdom of England to give back all conquered Scottish territory and give us a slight compensation for invasion. However, after the crusade, another war may start up again depending on the result of said war.

The Papal States replies

Greetings Scotland, from Pope Honorius III of the Papal States, we wish to reply to your offer. We are able to ask this of England, but not force it. Once the soldiers and embassidors for Britain arrive in York they will attempt to bring this request to the Kingdom of England at once. If this doesn't work we may consider more serious methods to obtain peace. We will write further when England responds.

Help as much as possible in the crusade? It will help the Kingdom!" He glanced at the last request."Be a member of the Papal Catholic United Union? What's that?!Hmm..." Alexander quickly wrot a response.
To the usurious king of Hungary, King Andrew the Second,
We would happily accept the first, second and third requests, but we have trouble understanding your final demand. We do not know what this "Papal Catholic United Union is and would ask that you inform us on what this union is. Aside from that, we accept all other requests, but ask you to write back to us on that particular ask.

To the glorious king of Hungary, King Andrew the Second,
Very well then. We happily accept membership into the Papal Catholic United Union. We do, however, still have questions about the Papal Catholic United Union. One of these is whether or not the Papal Catholic United will continue to exist after the crusades. At the end of the crusades, will the Papal Catholic United Union disband? Or stay together? Also, are all crusade members going to be members of the Papal Catholic United Union? But, putting aside these questions, we wish for your aid in building a naval force now.

Aachen, Holy Roman Empire

King Henry VII was troubled. With the Mongols sweeping across Europe to his east, the Sultan threatening the Holy Land to his south, and the Scots and English threatening to drag Europe into all-out war on his west, the king had slept very little recently.
Henry looked at the map laid out in his throne room. If this affair with England couldn't be settled quickly, other nations might enter the war, leaving Europe ripe for the picking. The Mongols or the Muslims? Who was the greater threat? He knew he had to deal with France. He had received reports from his spies that the French dogs were seeking an alliance with the barbarians in the east.
Henry studied the map again. He was out of options. If he attacked France now, he might be able to save the empire and gain the trust of England. He began to draw on the map: armies moving across the Seine River into France; united English and Roman armies pushing the Scots back to the ocean; a united Europe stopping the menace in the east.
Then he felt a presence in the room. It was just behind him, slightly to the left. He dived out of the way just as an arrow pierced the table, right where he had been a second before. He whirled around to see a figure standing at the window with an empty crossbow. Seeing his chance, he charged the man as he reloaded. The bow came up, too late again. Henry grabbed him, throwing him out the window before he shot. He looked out the window, expecting to see him lying on the ground. Instead, he saw him lower himself to the ground on a rope and flee.
The guards soon burst through the doors, but Henry waved them away, calling for his advisors. He had work to do.

The king read the letter and laughed. "The southron kingdoms think we care about some distant land?" he looked at the man who had delivered it. "Summon my councilors." The man bowed and left. A short while later his councilors filed in and he allowed them to read the letter. The king waited for them to get settled before he spoke. "The church wants us to fight in a war that we will not gain anything from. Our resources are better spent in England, where great gains can be made. However, I have a plan. If the Papal States need troops so badly, they may be willing to pay a price. We will provide them with soldiers if they agree to the term that everything conquered by Norwegian soldiers will be annexed by the Kingdom of Norway and become part of its official territory." The councilors murmured in agreement.
A few hours later, a letter was sent to the Pope:
Pope Honorius III
The Kingdom of Norway has concluded that it will assist the Papal States in its war against Bulgaria.
However, as you know, our Kingdom is currently at war with the Kingdom of England and is hesitant to expend its available soldiers in a war in which it gains virtually nothing.
Knowing this, the Kingdom of Norway requests that in return for assistance in the crusade against Bulgaria, all Bulgarian lands conquered by Norwegian soldiers be annexed into the Kingdom, in which order will be kept.
Furthermore, it is requested that Pristina and all Bulgarian lands west of it be annexed by Norway.
Finally, we request that any troops being transported to the Balkans be given safe passage through other lands in the name of the Papal States and Christianity to assure that the troops are alive and well to fight the enemy.
In return for this land, the Kingdom of Norway will send 12,500 foot soldiers, 1,250 cavalry and 250 knights to assist in the war.

The Kingdom of France
Near the city of Le Mans
The province of Maine

Image

Blanche de Castile, Queen Regent of France

Her cold fingers clutched the crucifix she always carried with her to incur the grace and mercy of the Savior as she rode past a ragged band of soldiers standing around a pitifully small campfire trying to find warmth from the cold winter weather that they braved on her command. The eyes of the Queen Regent for a brief moment met with those of a tired serjeant. The man, realizing who the richly robbed lady on the splendidly white horse before him was at once shuddered and broke the gaze, no doubt terrified at having peered into the eyes of the Regent of France, the Realm of one hundred thousand steeples. Yet Blanche was herself struck by the gaze, the desperation and fatigue in it. The wellbeing of the man and his comrade was her charge for it had been her idea to launch a surprise attack in the midst of winter against the recalcitrant regent of Brittany to discipline him before allies could rally to his heinous cause. A good strategy but one that others than Blanche payed for. So rapidly she pushed forward towards Brittany that when camp was made it seemed her soldiers lacked the energy to even find sufficient amount of firewood to keep themselves warm.

Feeling her eyes water the Queen Regent shook her head in grief. "Lord." She begged. "You who truly knew suffering and adversity, I humbly supplicate you, not for myself, a sinner ill deserving of your grace, but for your children whose care by your divine will has been me entrusted let this war find itself to a speedy conclusion that the people of fair France may be spared of suffering and hardships in the righteous defense of my son your servant, the King." Blanche prayed as she rode with her retinue towards the center of the impromptu camp that had been raised on the banks of the Sarthe river near Le Mans.

As the Queen Regent reached the large tent that had already been raised for her, she was greeted by the Baron de Montmorency who bowed politely before helping her down from her horse. "Your Grace." The man reverently spoke planting a light kiss on Blanche's hand. "God's Peace be upon you My Lord Constable." Blanche greeted the commander of the royal army, a small force of some five thousand men, largely cavalry, raised for the surprise attack on the power base of Mauclerc. "And on you Your Grace." The Constable replied, gesturing politely for the Queen Regent to enter the tent.

Blanche readily complied, leaving behind the cold and discomfiture that her soldiers suffered for the luxurious accommodations that the Queen Regent enjoyed even at war. "Good news your Grace, our scouts report that the forces of Brittany has not yet been fully mobilized and that Pierre de Dreux is retreating towards Vannes. Nantes is ripe for the taking." The Constable triumphantly declared. "Thank God." Blanche solemnly, yet absent-mindedly declared. The constable, not a pious man, amenably nodded. "And there was another matter Your Grace. A letter has arrived from Scotland via Paris."

Her thoughts still preoccupied by her freezing soldiers Blanche at first did not react. Then, as she recomposed herself, she asked with a hint of curiosity whilst eyeing the Constable inquisitively; "From Scotland?"

De Montmorency procured the letter and presented it to Blanche who quickly opened it, noting that the seal had already been broken, reading it quickly, eager to learn of the content. As she read a variety of emotions took hold of the Queen Regent, ranging from disbelief to anger to sorrow. Blanche shook her head. "We did not take Henry III for a fool nor a brute yet if Alexander writes truthfully it would seem he is both. A black day it was when he and not my late husband took the English throne." Blanche, almost brutally, proclaimed. "Can we confirm that this attack has taken place?" She inquired gazing at her constable.

De Montmorency shrugged. "Not yet, we will soon though. Assuming that it is true how would Your Grace wish to proceed. Shall we oblige this King of Scots and wage war on the English?" The Constable asked grimly.

Blanche sighed and shook her head, not in rejection but in despair. "What alternative cause of action is left Us when faced with such vile and unlawful an onslaught as that of which Alexander speaks? Are We to quietly accept the warmongery and aggression of Henry against his neighbors? No My Lord, We shall do no such thing. And though We are neither pleased nor tempted by the crude offerings of Alexander We will not permit Henry to absorb Scotland. We will compel this warrior king to peace or We will wage upon him war till he has had his fill, his people to woe." Blanche declared shaking her head once more in sorrow. "War! Do the young princes of Europe not anymore understand that it is a christian virtue to avoid strife whenever possible? God forbid it but We see in Our own son a pale reflection of the vile warmongery of this Henry of England. He speaks with passion and fervor of a crusade, be it tenfold as just as this war of Henry it is war still, and its cost are horrendous to face. Beyond the comfortable confines of this tent five thousand men freeze as they are forced on long and exhausting marched only to clash on a muddy field of battle with no less freezing and exhausted bretons in a struggle that will send thousands to an early grave and maim many more needlessly, that is the reality of war, not the tales of bards and young men. May God give me the strength to bring to this Kingdom peace that its people may prosper not suffer, that we may build churches not castles."

Agitated Blanche grabbed a quill and expediently scribbled down a brief and unceremonious reply to the King of the Scots without waiting for de Montmorency to offer any reply to her righteous tirade against war. As she finished the letter she handed it to the Constable the ink not yet dry and ordered. "With the fastest ship to the court of Scotland I want my words sent Constable." She ordered. De Montmorency nodded meekly. "Your Grace." He obediently replied.

The Queen Regent sighed once more. "Now I must take your leave Constable, I have a thing I need to do." Blanche spoke, walking towards the exit of her tent, thinking of the soldiers out in the cold, exposed to winter weather and hardships for her sake. "My Lady?" The Constable asked confused. "My people are cold, I wish to bring to them warmth." Blanche merely declared.

To His Grace, Alexander II, King of Scots, of the House of Dunkeld from Her Grace Blanche of Castile, Queen Regent of the Kingdom of France,

Pax Vobiscum, and may the blessings of Our Lord of Savior ever be with Your Grace. Having read with astonishment your tale of unwarranted and aggressive maneuvers undertaken by His Grace, Henry III, of England King, against the Kingdom of Scotland We are most wroth with Our English cousin and shall indeed ally with the Kingdom of Scotland in bringing an end to the ungodly and unlawful onslaught of the King of England upon the Kingdom of Scotland, not from any desire to receive Lordship and dominion over southern England, a prize not the King of Scots to give and not for the Queen Regent of France to receive, but from outrage and opposition to the insufferable English impudence. As God Our Lord and Savior are Our witness We shall pledge to bring the treacherous King of England to order or see him stripped of all lands and possessions he yet retain in the fair Kingdom of France. If We prove unable to do so by diplomatic means We resolve to take up arms against Our wayward cousin and his supporters in France as well as the British Isles.

By Our hand,
Blanche, Queen Regent and Queen Mother and Queen Dowager of France, Princess of Castile

Scarborough, English Coast

Danish flags fluttered high in the wind as the creaks of wood and metallic clanks of a disembarking army filled the air. Wulfric glanced back and watched with pride as 5,000 Danes clam mores over the gunwales and into the surf, unloading weapons, supplies, and horses. 200 years ago the fierce Viking king Harald Hardrada had landed in almost the same place, hoping the beet William the Bastard to the Saxon throne and restore Norse rule to England. But Hardrada had failed, his army smashed on a narrow bridge by the Harold Godwinson, last Anglo-Saxon king of England. Now he faced the descendants of Haralds usurper, and hoped his fate would not be the same as the last Norse king to take his army west.

He turned to look inland, admiring the green beauty of England. Once the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok had conquered this land, and by the gods he could too!

And speaking of gods, he had a letter from a so called holy man to attend to. Oh how he wished that last ship hasn't caught them on the way out of the bay as they set off. His holiness the Bishop of Rome wanted aid of all Christian nations against the Bulgars. Ha! As if he would sail round Europe, through the Mediterranean, up the Bosporus, and into the black see just to kill a few Slavs for a priest. However, as with all things religious Wulfric must hold his words. Pagan as he was he could not afford to in any way anger the pope, or let his true beliefs be known.

Turning around to face his generals and lords he lifted the paper in the air and let a gust sweep it out to sea. "As I'm sure you are all aware the seal on this letter did not match the papal seal to a satisfactory degree. As such we have no choice but to assume it an English forget attempting to stall our invasion." Locking his eyes on his commanders each in turn he said grimly and with absolute seriousness. "This shall never be spoken of again, is that clear? Not to your confessor, it to your wife, not to some whore in a Copenhagen tavern. God does not command this army, Wulfic Red-Knife does."

Brașov-Brassó

Brașov is accomodated in the Hungarian way and not the Wallachian anymore. The central face was Béla IV who was sent by King Andrew II to control the forces in Wallachia. Béla IV sees a builder doing a mistake "Hey, builder the building's roof should look to the West not the East but because I am not strict please make it look to the West and don't start it again." the builder says "I am really sorry you majesty Prince Béla IV." Béla IV says "Sorry is accepted now go and finish this building." The builder goes to continue the building and says 'Alright you majesty."

Rijeka-Opatija Area-Fiume-Abbázia terület

In the areas there the celebrations have been finished and now they clean the mess of the three week celbrations of the capture of Venice. Rijeka is the biggest and messiest port of the Northwestern coast, Opatija has joined the celbrations 2 days after the start of them althrough they have more dirt than ever and now the people of the area have to clean this big mess they created.

Venice City Centre-Velence Városközpont

Venice's accomodation and rebuild is almost done and there are Hungarian and Venetian workers that work hard to rebuild this Golden City of Adriatic Sea. Venice's mayor also struggles to rebuild the port with some workers and another 150 workers struggle to rebuild the church. In the port now the mayor says "We have to rebuild the port to be the diamond of the Adriatic sea again." the leading worker says "If we work harder we may finish in 3 days and we can also build a small church after we finish the port." the mayor says "The harder you work the more money you get." and the worker says "I am going to work." and the mayor says "Good luck."

Uppland
The King stood on a lonely hill and looked over his land. His head was juggling many thoughts all at the same time, and Canute II knew he wasn't a good juggler. What was he to do? He knew that this was a good opportunity to take some land from the Danes, or maybe the Norwegians. But he also knew that land in Finland was ripe for the picking. But which did he value more? Finland? Or Denmark? Or Norway? Did he even want to conquer at all? He didn't know what was best for his country. Then it hit him, quite literally. Something had hit him. It was a small pebble, and around it was a message. It read "King. You should know what to do. Denmark has little force on the border. Take Skane and Gotland. They are rightfully Swedish. You know it. Word in Denmark is that the Danish King has been singing hymns to the Old Gods. I bet we could get a Pope sanctioned invasion. Then, if Scotland and Norway are Christian, which they are, they won't come to the defense of a heathen. Make the right choice. Signed, Harald."

This letter made a good point. If it was true that the Danish King was singing hymns to the Old Gods, then surely the Pope would grant him Casus Belli. And then because Norway and Scotland are devoutly Catholic, they won't come to the defense of the heathen King. It was perfect! Whoever this Harald was, he deserved a medal. The Pope would obviously be fooled into granting an invasion. He hurried back to his palace, ordering his courtiers to set about writing a letter to his Holiness Pope Honorius II, explaining that the Danes were filthy heathens with a King serving the Old Gods rather than the one true faith, seeing the characters in the Sagas as his Idols, not God.

Cekan wrote:The king read the letter and laughed.
King Haakon IV

The Papal States replies speedily.

To The Kingdom of Norway, from his excellency Pope Honorius III of the Papal States, we have looked at your terms and have decided to accept under the following changes and additions:
-The 'Bulgarian Lands' will fall under Norwegian control if you are the ones to claim it. If another crusading force reaches it before hand then it will go to them. I will add to this by stating that you have our word that the Papal States, at least, will not try and claim any sovereignty over it.
-As the Pope is against the Bulgarians completely he accepts your right to have Pristina and all Bulgarian lands west of it.
-The Papal States will provide an official crusading armies passport, to be enforced by the Papal States, the Kingdom of Hungary and the rest of the Papal United Union which is mildly containing Scotland, so your forces are protected in their journey.
-You are also offered a place of membership in the Papal Catholic United Union which is lead by the Kingdom of Hungary to take part in current and future crusades. Their are perks to this such as aiding in the choice of the next crusade and receiving aid by both the Papal States and other members militarily, which could be quite useful if you have enemies such as England.
-As you have said you are losing so much and gaining nothing so along with the territory provided and membership offering we are also committed to providing what the original offer was sent out to all Catholic nations stated which is 100 florins which I hope you have already received in good measure and 1000 florins for supplying this army as soon as the crusade is over.

We hope you will join the crusade as we respect Norway and its people and as such we wish to offer you an immediate 400 florins and 1000 Swiss Pikes to aid you in your current war against the Kingdom of England.
With respect Pope Honorius III of the Papal States
