The world of Talan exists in a separate dimension from the human world and is believed to have existed long before the human world. Talan is populated with various creatures known as Talaneans. Talaneans are diverse creatures with various powers and abilities and appearances. For as long as any Talanean can remember, the world of Talan had been relatively peaceful. That is, until three years ago when the Death Machines attacked. The attacks of the Death Machines started off on a small scale, with a few raids on various Talanean towns. But now, the Death Machines have amassed a huge army and are preparing to conquer the entire continent.
The world of Talan is ruled by a democratic government from the capitol city of Hesterny. However, it works differently from what we would normally think of as a democracy. First of all, because Talan basically consists of a single continent and only one government, every creature in Talan is automatically a citizen. Although the government technically controls the entire continent, they excercise very little authority outside the confines of cities. Creatures who choose to live in the wild pretty much have the freedom to do whatever they want. The Talanean government only keeps track of its citizens that were born in cities by giving them ID numbers. All creatures born outside of cities have to register with the government before they can vote. Creatures in Talan vote for local city leaders, council representatives, and the head of state. Voting for city leaders requires a creature to be registered as a citizen of a particular city. Councilmen and the Head of State, however, are voted on by all registered citizens no matter where they live. The Federal Government is ruled by a Head of State, called a Chancellor, and 7 councilmen, each representing one of the five creature types listed in the spoiler below. All registered creatures are allowed to vote for the chancellor, but creatures can only vote for which councilmen will represent their creature type. Also, the Chancellor stays in power until he dies, resigns, or gets impeached. There is no term limit.
Every creature of Talan, has a specific type: Human Type, Mammal Type, Bird Type, Reptile Type, Insect Type, Marine Type or Monster Type. Powers and abilities vary from creature to creature. Talaneans all reproduce sexually, even if they resemble a creature from our world that does not. However, the appearance and abilities of offspring is pretty random and rarely resembles that of either parent. The type of the creature, however, must always stay the same, as creatures can only reproduce with creatures of the same type.
There are four types of Death Machines:
Infantry Machine: The first level and most common soldier in the Death Machine Army. These machines have no built in weaponry but rely on laser weapons and explosives which they store inside themselves. These droids are capable of swimming and have heat vision and which allows them to see through darkness, smoke, or other forms of visual impairment.
Assassin Machine: The second level soldier in the Death Machine army. Assassins serve more as guards and special operatives, but they are occassionally seen on the battlefield in small numbers. Assassins are equiped with long blades, several smaller blades, and smoke bombs. Assassins are capable of swimming, and they have heat vision which allows them to see through darkness, smoke, or other forms of visual impairment. Assassins also have magnets on their feet allowing them to stick to any metal surface.
Artillery Machine: The third level soldier in the Death Machine army. Artillerys are huge behemoths and heavy armor and weapons. Each arm is equipped with machine guns, grenade launchers, laser weapons, and flame throwers. Artillerys cannot swim, but they do have heat vision which allows them to see through darkness, smoke, or other forms of visual impairment.
God Machine: The fourth and most powerful level soldier in the Death Machine army. These droids are called "god" machines because of their god-like strength and abilities. God Machines have the ability to fly, shoot huge energy blasts from their hands and eye, and they have super strength. God droids are also incredibly durable, very fast, and capable of seeing through visual impairments with their heat vision. Even more so than the Assassins, God Machines are rare and you usually won't see more than one on any given battlefield.
