The golem shrugged.
"I wander. My name is Alldas Morron. I have no long and pretentious titles because even when I was a soft-skin like all of you, I was simply a desert-tribesman."

Aona wrote:Lyns nodded to the new recruits entering, and called towards the ones who evidently stood in the doorway, "It's open, please, join us." He then returned his eyes to the new arrivals, an ogre, a butcher, a lamia, and another man. A Golem stood in the doorway. What a crowd already.

"Lark. I've heard stories. Good to have you. Mr. Homme, I believe we have crossed paths before, at least been in the same city at once. Where are you resident?" Lyns asked, now realizing he would need to make more ale than he thought. He got to work, and produced three glasses, one for Laila, who was almost done with hers.

"Yes, I have heard of the Baem. You're quite infamous on the southern coast. And this is not my inn, merely my home. MY daughter is sleeping upstairs, actually, so I'd appreciate a check on volume." Another drink.

"This is. Cyris, yes?" This was one of the few Lyns actually saw the profiles of. Another drink.

He finally lazily turned to the Golem. "An ogre and a golem already? My, my, they really went wild with the recruitment seals, didn't they? Where are you from?"

Yet.
Another.
Drink.

"Yes, that is my name." Cyris responded, taking the glass of ale from Lyns' hand. "I suppose you are Lyns, then? I received your message, quite obviously." He said with a slight smile, looking over the various people in the area, and noting the conversation about "titles".

"As for me, I have no titles. I simply am....Cyris. Nothing complex." He said aloud, smiling at Laila before taking a drink of the ale.

Lyns nodded, seemingly understanding his sadness. "Ah. My apologies. I suppose we shouldn't travel in water, then." he winked, the first glimmer of youth from the man.

He slid and already-made drink (He was getting good at this) towards the merfolk. "Apologies if this is too dry for you. I am Lyns, who I presume you are here for."

"As I am simply Lyns." He smiled quietly, in his usual almost shy manner. "Of course, titles are lovely, granted you believe you have earned them. I'm sure you believe so, Lark?"

Sandersonia smiled widely. "No wonder. This place is too comfortable to be an Inn," she said, "Though you do have booze." She took the mug of ale and sipped a bit. It was standard stuff. much more malty than southern ales. She placed the mug onto the bar lightly. She looked at her toucan and shushed it. It nodded at her and then looked ahead again. Sandersonia looked back at Lyns again. "He should shush up from now on. Didn't know you had a daughter though. How is she doing?" she said.

"Thank you, Master Herah. I reside currently near the settlement Dirty Printemps, just north of the Hinterlands. I have my own estate, although it's not much to look at. We may have crossed paths at some point. I've met too many warriors to remember who fell and who didn't. Truth to be told, I haven't returned to this city ever since I left, decades ago. It hasn't changed much." Erna sighed. He then smiled. This cocktail of coca and opiates had taken effect in pulsating waves, drowning out the echoes of the past.

"I'm curious, though," he wondered at Lyns, "Did you ever at any point fear for you daughter's safety when you invited fighters and their ilk into your home? Not to sound threatening, but many of us appear to be raucous and unruly. Or unpopular, in my case."

Observing the trio of other guests, he noted that they were all titled. Destroyer of this, raider of that, scourge of this. Token words meant to underly that yes, I am a beast to be feared. Do not impugn upon my will, those adjectives cried, or your death will surely be another title for me. Those names always seemed disingenuous to Erna. If you really wanted to be feared, then commit acts so brutal, so horrifying that you name becomes a curse to be uttered only after your fifth drink. That only applied to the bandits and marauders he had brought down. He nodded silently in agreement to the golem.

Lily, shy as she was, did not wish to interrupt anyone, so upon curtsying to the people already outside the house, she simply stood back and watched as more people arrived and went right through the door without being invited. One of them even mentioned that one did not need to be invited to enter an inn, but as far as she knew, this was Lyns Herah's home, correct? So, it was not an inn. Thus, she felt she should wait outside still. She did not wish to eavesdrop on the conversations of others, either, so her mind simply faded their voices to a distant sound as she waited. Of course, she was only tuning out the man and the mermaid conversing outside of the house, she was not actually actively trying to ignore everyone. Thus, when someone else came along and asked if this was Lyns Herah's home, an elf by the looks of it, she turned towards him and nodded, before going back to idly standing around.

Then, another voice came from inside the house, a voice calling out to those standing outside, inviting them to come. Figuring that this was the cue she was waiting for, Lily entered the house, only to be amazed by it just as he was amazed by the city. Truly, it put most things she had known to shame. The buildings back in her riverside town weren't nearly as pretty as this one, not even the larger, nicer ones. Thus, she spent a bit of time observing and admiring the house, before realizing that most everyone who had walked in had already made their way to another room through a nearby corridor. Not wanting to waste any time, Lily hurried along, reaching the room with the rest of the group.

Once inside, she noticed that the others already seemed to be settled in and drinking, so, not wishing to interrupt anything this time either, she merely approached the man who she assumed to be Lyns Herah judging by his description, and did another one-handed curtsy as a means of voiceless greeting, before backing off and simply looking around some more.

Ah well, he'd get a hold of some coin later, Tobius thought as he replaced the mask on his face and moved inside the room. It was warm, cheery, and loud, three things he disliked, thus he moved off to a corner table where he proceeded to drive the tip a knife he seemed to pied ice from nowhere, into the pristine wooden surface, and kick up his feet to position next to the weapon.

Sirthi Wa't'hilia

"My name isss, unpronounceable outside of the water, or by landdweller tongue, the closest you may get is Sirthi, Sirthi Wa't'hilia." Sirthi took hold of the drink she was given and looked at it a bit weird, trying to examine it utilizing in her curious yet cautious way of finding out what something is. Seeing as most here were already drinking it she felt like it could do no harm, it was something the surfacedwellers seemed to like so she could just as well try it. "Taking a big gulp her head nearly changed color as she instantly collapsed to the ground and spit out whatever she drank, the glass she held falling to the ground and shattering as she was coughing and drooling heavily.

Taking a moment to get her composure back she tried to stand up again, with a somewhat aggressive look on her face towards the patron, "THIS IS POISON! How can you surfacedwellers drink this?" as she assumed the patron couldn't have known that alcohol apparently works as a poison on Merfolk, considering Sirthi herself didn't even know, she didn't go in the offensive as she usually would in a situation like this. That and the fact others seemed to be drinking this without worry assumes to harmful intent was done.

Lyns's eyes followed the girl's movements. It was unusual for one to not speak at this point....unless......

Ah. Of course.

"Miss, are you unable to speak?" Lyns asked, and turned towards Erna's sudden question. He smiled, the expression sad, tired, and threatening all at once.

"Mister Homme, if you were to pose a threat to my daughter, this would be a very short meeting. I trust you are not." he said curtly.

The merfolk collapsed, then began screaming. "Miss," Lyns's voice grew stern. "my daughter." He poured her a glass of water.

"My apologies. My knowledge on Merfolk biology is rather....slim. I hope it won't cause an issue."

Lark took a drink and took the comments about titles in good taste "Among my people, you require titles for respect, we have titles for heroes such as you that you would not be aware of." He sipped the ale and felt the inner warmth that coursed through him, never as warm as it was before. The best drink of the day is just before the first one, maybe a second would make up for it...

Lark was on his third drink and he was almost tipsy, a benefit of being 300 lbs is that you don't get all to affected by this stuff. Lark sat by Tobius and said "That's a waste of a table, you probably shouldn't do it in future." As he said this, the wooden chair creaked slightly beneath him, barely coping with the strain. Lark stood up gingerly and spoke "my name is Lark... May I ask you're name?"

Sirthi Wa't'hilia

Accepting the glass of water she quickly drank all the water in the glass and in one motion spit it back out, but instead of it being spit on the ground she spit it back in the glass where after she threw the water in her own face, the water on her face started making weird streams around Sirthi's body and began disappearing under her scales. A Merfolk did not actually need to drink, they just need to absorb the water through their body, she only drank it first so she could spit out the rest of the alcohol that might've still been in her mouth.

Lien, still looking around, was amazed, as it seemed she constantly was, this time at the diversity of people. Not only there was the giant and the mermaid, there was also a man made of stones! Truly, she was hardly out of place here, except perhaps for her one greatest inability.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a voice, the same voice she had heard inviting everyone inside, Lyns' voice, which was asking someone if they were unable to speak. Believing herself to be the only one present with that problem, she turned to him and indeed cauht him looking at her, before directing his gaze elsewhere. Now, evidently, that was a problem. All she could do was nod to answer his question, but not if he wasn't looking. So, awkward as it might seem, she figured that the only way to answer his question was to draw his attention back to her. Thus, she slowly walked up to him and gently tugged at his sleeve in order to get his attention. Once that was done, she opened her mouth, as if to speak, only to make it evident that she really couldn't, and shook her head afterwards only to further confirm that she was unable to speak.

She was starting to see that trying to communicate with someone in a large group such as this one was going to be... Messy, to say the least.

"I hope you're alright." Cyris chimed in after a few moments of silence on his part, watching the various people go about their business, from one shady fellow playing with a knife to Lyns' alcoholic blunder. He laid his glass on a nearby table, as he had never tried to drink much of alcohol at one point in time. He was still getting accustomed to it, as he never had any of it for most of his life. At least, until three years ago.

Lyns nodded, lazily amused.

"Of course. I'll refrain from inviting you to parties." he said flatly. A poor attempt at a joke, but a joke nonetheless. He finally saw the man i the back, whose feet were propped up on a table. "Those are nice tables, you know." He left the statement there, going back to his business. Not a command, simply an observation.

He was interrupted by a tug on his sleeve, and looked up to see the girl, who indeed confirmed she was mute. He smiled and nodded, appreciative. "Understood. We will compensate. I will try to voice your opinions if you'd like, simply get my attention when you must. Is that alright?" He said in a fatherly tone.

"What is your name, Madame?"

Erna watched in awe. An actual merfolk, sarcastically apologizing to the host. The utter strangeness of the situation was perplexing sober, even more so when he was intoxicated. Sandersonia was a bit stunned by the sudden collapse of the mermaid. But she spit out the alcohol before it killed her. She was always surprised by mermaids. Even a normal beer like the one in front of her could kill a mermaid. She remembered the first time she visited a mermaid colony, she had to dump all of the rum on the ship. One sip of the strong stuff would kill a mermaid on the spot. Although the crew was disappointed, they enjoyed their visit.

"At least you're fine now," Sandersonia said to the mermaid, "Just be glad you weren't drinking anything stronger."

"IIIIIHHH" said the toucan softly,"Mermaids are lightweights."

Sirthi blinked somewhat awkwardly at the question asked of her "Poison yourself out of entertainment?" Sirthi was puzzled by this, very puzzled, why would anything poison themselves willingly, for enjoyment even. "Firstly thank you for asking, I am fine, secondly, are surfacedwellers insane? What creature would willingly poison itself and even derive pleasure from it. Off course we Merfolk don't poison ourselves, we avoid poison like we avoid the teeth of the sharks that try to feast on our flesh or the paralyzing or even deadly stingers of the jellyfish. You live to kill or get killed by something trying to live. Eat or get eaten, not poison yourself for fun.".

After a moment, it was evident that Lily had managed to get Lyns' attention, and he indeed understood what she was trying to convey, which made her feel relieved. Communicating was always one of the hardest things for her, for obvious reasons, and so having someone around who understood quickly was like a blessing. And not only that, this man also offered to voice her opinions on her behalf whenever she needed it, which was a much appreciated service. As long as she could convey things to him, she wouldn't need to struggle conveying them to the others. Thus, she smiled softly and nodded at him, thankful for his kindness.

Hearing him ask her name afterwards, Lily wondered if she should give him her full name, before deciding that it would take far too long. She didn't want to have to hold his attention that much, so she settled for giving him the name she preferred to go by. She figured she could always give him her full name later. With this in mind, she gently took one of Lyns' hands, putting it on top of hers, with the palm facing up, and then looked around. There was a table close enough for her to place her lyre, so she did, and, with that hand now freed, she used her index finger to spell out her name on his palm, as if she was writing on sand. First came the L, then the I, then another L, and finally the Y. Lily. Once that was done, she slowly lowered her hand, letting go of his, hoping he caught the message.

Sirthi was puzzled by this, very puzzled, why would anything poison themselves willingly, for enjoyment even.

"Madame, I will try my best to explain. Sometimes the side effects of alcohol, for instance, make us feel good. Especially in large doses, it feels even better. Yet at the same time it can also kill us. Word from a fool, mankind has a death wish. But we don't want to die feeling bad." He felt sorry for the mermaid. She was almost a fish out of water.

You know, I try not to make jokes about Jewish over-sensitivity. But literally one person said they laughed at an antisemitic poster and "Menassa is summoned!"

Lark let out an involuntary burst of laughter as he realized the Toucan had the best sense of humour in the room, Tobius seemed to just answer with a pseudo-threat...ish... thing. Lark nodded in his direction "Tobius... May I request of you how you were asked here? you do not bear the markings of a hero who is seen doing his work." Lark's dusty ogren tongue let out the words with fluency but his tongue simply wasn't built for this language.

Zarkenis Ultima wrote:After a moment, it was evident that Lily had managed to get Lyns' attention, and he indeed understood what she was trying to convey, which made her feel relieved.

Lyns was surprised at the sudden movement, though he indifferently went along with it. It took a moment for him to interpret the movements, and then nodded. "Lily....a fine name." He eyes relaxed, a motion that was almost that of a smile.

"Alright, Lily, I suppose we'll work out a form of communication. For now, that will do." he said, patting her shoulder twice reassuringly, before returning to the drinks. They were going to deplete his ale, and it wasn't even an hour in. Oh dear.

"Gods, I can't drink much of the stuff before I start developing a headache. Guess it's just new to me." Cyris said, smiling at Sirthi happily, glad that she was alright. "I haven't so much as seen alcohol until a few years ago, and I'm ninety-three." Cyris concluded, reaching over to his glass and taking a sip of it.
Above even The Boss
Feel free to contact me about any fantasy, sci-fi, or otherwise futuristic RPs, especially those involving aliens or other non-humans, especially if it is an original universe/idea. I also enjoy Mass Effect, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and many other things that transit to roleplays.

Sirthi Wa't'hilia

Sirthi was a bit at a loss for words, this simply did not make sense "living is not about feeling good, living is about staying alive. You avoid dangers you can not overcome, you do not weaken yourself by choice and you don't give something threatening a chance to remain threatening if you can eliminate it. If you live to survive you can not die feeling bad as you know your death came because something else required it to live.".

Sirthi had difficulty not simply calling all surface dwellers idiots or simply insane as what this person was saying made no sense.

"93 years and you've just started drinking? Do elves of your kind abstain from drinking entirely? What do you imbibe in?" Erna chuckled a little before speaking again. "If you would like, I could drink most for you." Homme only thought for a second to offer him coca extract before abstaining. You don't offer a casual acquaintance your medicine. Especially when you needed it more.

"Sirthi, you are going to have a really hard time trying to understand humanity. Many of us have wondered why we do what we do to no avail. I wish I could explain why we are so self destructive to you. Don't dwell on our foolishness too much. And yes, I know we are idiots. But not all surface dwellers are. I bet you that at least the elves are more logical than we are."
