OOC

No bells tolled for the new year in Seaddle. None did over the entire Wasteland, bar some in the long forgotten ruins of the Crystal Empire far to the north. But that diddn't matter, for there was nopony to hear their ringing.

In Seaddle, life continued much the same. Caravans arrived and left the Moon Tower, Utopia and his gang watched the city from their citadel, their griffin leader eyeing the opposite bank though a pair of scratched and battered binoculars while the Elder of the Steel Rangers did the same across the ruined city center.

The Tolltakers kept taking their tolls as usual, taking the captives away for a unknown but no doubt sinister purpose. Applejack's Rangers huddled together inside the Seaddle Institute, bemoaning the loss of the building's magical snow shield.

Winter had come to the city in force; shards of ice and snow tore through the streets, blown by the winds. But the city? The city is about to change.

Factions were moving. The Seaddle Enclave has been sighted within the city for the first time in 10 years. The Blackhounds have been ambushing Steel Ranger patrols and caravans heading for Moon Tower. The Tolltakers have upped the toll to 5000 caps from the previous 2000 and anyone who can't pay is taken away for their own purposes.

This is known to all. What isn't known is that the door of Vault 132 has begun to open; and the contents will provide the last piece to a puzzle. A puzzle that would change the face of the Northern Wasteland forever if completed.

Aurora Australis stood within the Moon Tower's lobby, the milky white Alicorn awaited for any caravaneers willing to hire her as a guard. Though Aurora considered her mercenary days long over, she missed the thrills and excitement near death experiences would bring her... or was it the friends she had that helped her overcome the obstacles in life? Either way, she was completely unable to accept the peace and tranquility that 'home' brought her.

Aurora knew little of the Utopia Gang and The Tolltakers, from what she heard, they don't sound like good guys. Aurora hummed to herself a old Sapphire Shores song, to distract herself from stressful thoughts and avoid the grasp of boredom as ponies walked passed her.

Arie had just crawled out of bed, she had nothing planned for the day; she walked over to her saddle bag (which was hanging off of an old wooden chair) she opened the pack and pulled out her rusted canteen and took a swig from it, she then capped it and placed it back in the bag. She walked over to a nearby rotted coffee table and grabbed her goggles (which she put on) and her scarf (which she wrapped around her neck) She went back to the chair and placed her saddle bag on, and tied it on properly. She trotted over to her shacks scrap metal door, and opened it (inwards) letting in the snow and cold, she then headed off into the wasteland closing her shack door behind her.

Cleo-wisp hugged close the looming shadow's as he passed by the Steel ranger patrol silently, though he doubted this was even necessary. The Tin-can's would have trouble seeing him in full sunlight, since he was cloaked in his mist...

'and that they were brainless cowards hiding under a sheet of metal'

He thought as a smile crept upon his smeared face as he trotted on, thought it was still safer than sorry.

'It had been a normal day so far...' his thoughts danced around in his head. He had been scavenging the subway for food at the early morning, then suddenly out of no-where he had been ambushed by those ravenous black-hounds. After he'd shot a dozen of 'em,  he then created an illusion which was supposed to lead them down the other way of the tunnel, however it didn't trick their sense of smell. A hasty escape eventually had required...

Cle's eye stooped upon something in the near distance on his right.

'Perfect!'

He was eagerly making his way to the house, the Building's frame's seemed to be on-the-verge of collapse, and the paint seemed to have faded away, however what had attracted him was the sheer height of it and it's abandonment. He carefully lifted himself through a stretched hole with his levitation.  Graffiti strucked the wall like icing on a damned cake. He swiftly made his way up the 3 stories of stairs, coming to a huge hole in the side of the brick wall.

Cleo loved this, he could see way up high, however the Moon tower was much more taller, though it was risky trying to even get in, let alone actually travelling up in it. At this height, and using the scope on his mom's zebra rifle, he could effectively scan all the debris for useful items...

BOOM!

He felt the explosion and he dropped the rifle in surprise, catching it in his magic, he peered back through the little scope to where the mass of smoke arised, all he could make out was the silhouette of a pony through the thick grey...

A lone figure trudged through the currently thin layer or snow, the wind whipping at the hem of his cloak and, occasionally, flipping the hood back and allowing a gust of snow to blow into the dark face of the Pegasus. He kept his wings folded inside of the cloak, protected from the relentless cold and the frostbite that follows. Keeping off the middle of the street, but roughly five feet away from the walls of the building remnants, Shademane made his way from what had once been a quaint little Celestialic school in Marenolia.

His destination, Moon Tower. It had been approximately three weeks since his previous travel there and his wares for sell were beginning to weigh him down. This time, he was toting books for the consumption of scholarly minds. It would take him most of the day if the snow remained as it was; even longer if the weather decided to worsen itself. After an hour he reached the Marenolia Bridge and all of it's glory. Thankfully, it was one of the last bridges left, besides the one controlled by the Tolltakers. Not that it mattered, it didn't cross any waterways and somepony could get to the other side by other just as easy means.

Though there was one thing that worried him. The Blackhounds. He was not a member of the Steel Rangers, but it didn't mean he was entirely safe, either. Carefully making his way down the bridge and ever nearing the main city, he kept his eyes open and ears perked for all signs of activity. To Shademane's luck there was none other than his own. Even still, he had to watch out for holes in the bridge, the bridge was littered with them.

Almost two hours further in his journey, Shademane spotted a length of fabric flapping violently, yet not flying away. It was lodged underneath a mound, preventing it from escaping into the frosty winter air. Apprehensively stalking nearer to the mound in the snow, Shademane realized what it was before he reached it. It was the body of a pony. Looking around for signs of a trap, he walked ever so slowly closer, each step breaking the surface of the pristine layer of snow and sinking to the bottom. When he finally did reach it, he checked the pulse and found nothing. "Poor soul" was all he said in eulogy. Checking for signs of foul play and finding none, Shademane now knew he had nothing to fear. Which drew his eyes to the fluttering item of clothing. It was a simple white scarf. "Huh, well, the dead have no need for warmth, after all." Shademane said to himself while removing the scarf from the fallen pony and donning it. Then he checked the gear of the dead equine, grabbed what he thought useful, but left most of it as there was little to begin with. He continued back onto his normal path and reached the base of the Moon Tower a half hour later.

"Another damn size four! I need a size five!"
Shouting at no one in particular, Brightsteel kicked a piece of too-small pipe away and dove back into the ancient building's collapsed heap of a boiler room for more. He was searching for a right-size pipe to make a container for water. It needed to hold just the right amount, because he would be using it to measure water to run his master project. Thus the scrutiny over pipe size.

Pulling out with a rusted hunk of twisted metal in his hoof, Brightsteel pulled o it until it fell apart, causing a length of pipe to clatter to the floor. Frightened by the noise, Brightsteel looked around. The noise itself didn't make him start; what he thought might hear the noise terrified him beyond measure. Raiders, mutants, unspeakable things, glory, maybe old Utopia himself was hunting him down. He needed to keep a low profile.

Examining the pipe, elation flew through him. It was a size five pipe. He had one more piece for his project, and one less left to find. This was good. He might even risk a test run tonight, to make sure everything worked right.

Brightsteel mounted his IF-9 and peeked out the building. Seeing nothing, he dashed across the street into a small house, then walked out the other side onto a street with many great lumps and hunks of hopelessly twisted metal strewn about. Using them as potential cover, he made it to his rundown shelter.

Looking inside, he put down his pack and set his shining steel helmet on his table. Polishing it a bit, he pulled the pipe out of his pack and walked over to a large shape covered in a large, ragged cloth. He yanked off the cloth to reveal a large paddle-boat-like object, rusted and misshapen, and clearly made of mismatched pieces.
It was his life's work, and it was going to save his life.

Stopping up the pipe with a lump of clay and filling it with water from his canteen, he poured it into a crude pipe on the side. He then poured a small amount of his precious supply of gas into another pipe, and struck a spark on a fuse made of twisted grass. Backing up, he watched it burn.

The fuse burnt into the hole it was mounted in, and a puff of smoke came out. In a few moments, the great paddle wheel of the thing began moving slowly. It worked.

Letting it burn out, Brightsteel covered it back up and went back to his table. Eating a small amount of grass and the last apple he'd lifted off of a Ranger a few weeks ago, he went to bed, hanging his shotgun over his bed so as to have it on a moment's notice.

It had worked.

Marciline flapped her deep blue wings against the wind, although her shield kept the wind from biting into her, it didnt stop it from hampering her flight or the snow flakes from messing with her vision. She had known that the winter cycle would be in full effect, but hadn't been prepared for the difficulty of traveling though a snow storm. Making a mental note about the weather and categorizing it under, Need to be prepared for, she set down in a field and looked around for somewhere to hull down. She eyed a small cottage though the flickering snow and dyeing sunlight. She teleports inside after looking though a window and summons her magic arrows, sweeping through the cottage, she finds little more than a bed and a stove. Judging by the cold inside the house, it was abandoned, and had been for awhile. With a reprieve from the raging storm outside, Marci takes a moment to shake the melting flakes of snow from her soft white and blue mane. Rigging up a trap on the front door, Marciline walked to the bathroom and looked into the mirror, a pair of midnight blue eyes peered back at her. She stared into those two pools of sadness, and became lost in a swirling whirlwind of crisp clear memories and blurry recollections from the Before time. When she finally came to, she felt as though a train had run over her, then backed up. Her head throbbed, so she wasted no time stashing her scant gear and hopping into the bed before drifting off into a tormented and light sleep.

One step after the other, Altor trudged through the heavy snowfall with only a rough idea where he was going. For the umpteenth time he cursed at himself for not moving his wings in so long, ice had formed around them, sticking them to his sides. He'd recently left the... 27th? No, it was 28th, he was sure of it, 27 was Hay-in. Either way, he could check in his notebook when he got out of the storm. He'd recently left the 28th small town he'd passed through since leaving his home, and he was glad that he could put it down as 'friendly'. In return for helping with odds and end tasks around the town, he had received a few books and half a dozen or so bottles of irradiated water. All in all, one of the better visits Altor had had so far.

He honestly didn't even know if he was going the right way. He had planned on making it to Seaddle by the end of the next day, but he hadn't taken weather like this into account. At this point, he was just looking out for some form of shelter, maybe some way to make a fire. He let out a long sigh. He really should have taken the map that Doodles had offered him. There was no way-

Pfff

He stopped dead in his tracks. Quickly reaching into his saddle bag and pulling out a pencil and notebook, Altor flipped to an open page. "There's SNOW way I'm going to make it to Seaddle," he wrote. Grinning even though the cold, he thought for a moment and wrote down "The ghoul stopped DEAD in his tracks." Satisfied, he put the book and pencil back into his bag, and pushed onward. He hadn't gone more than 10 steps when he stopped again. He crouched down low, and pulled one of the pistols hung around his neck up to his mouth, looking around.

He definitely saw something. A dark shape ahead and a bit off to the side. He slowly approached the shape, 9mm aimed right at it. As he got closer, he saw the shape beginning to grow in size and take on detail. Beaming, he dropped the pistol, letting it fall back onto his neck, as he rushed forward to the rest stop.

Once Arie was outside, she began to slowly trudge through the snow, she was making her way to some building the she hopped were abandoned on the outskirts of Seaddle, if not then she would probably die by its inhabitants, she only had a rusted dulled knife, and the weather made it near impossible to fly. She decided to take a direct route to her location, she didn't want to stay in the cold for very long. She did however walk slowly, softly putting hoof after hoof, so not to make much noise.

As she slowly continued she noticed a shape towards the left of her. She felt relieved when she realized it was home, and abandoned by the looks of it, she weighed the options of it actually being abandoned or holding hostiles in her head, finally deciding it was abandoned she turned and slowly hoofed towards it. Hoping that it would hold scrap, food, anything really, just so long as she didn't have to near Seaddle.

She neared a window and tried to peer in, but the window was completely covered in frost and ice, so she couldn't make out much of what was in there. After her failed attempt of looking through the window she decided to go towards the door, once she reached it she took a deep breath and reached for the door knob, slowly turning it, while pushing inwards to open it.

Aurora gave a loud dismissive sigh. She saw that the merchants in the tower lobby already had protection of some sort. Why wouldn't they at times like this? "I guess traders hire guards before coming here..." she mumbled to herself, regretting the idea of ever settling so close to someplace so boring. An idea formed in her head, maybe if she stood outside at the base of Moon Tower, she would have more luck. The Alicorn soon found herself at the frosty entrance in hopes of being recruited, holding a large cardboard sign written in marker...

Gun-for-hire
150 caps

Aurora knew the sign wasn't very convincing, a fact that didn't mix well with her being a Alicorn. However, 150 caps was very cheap to hire a powerful pony who already had a history of being a skilled warrior. Aurora waited, a confident smile etched on her face. Aurora remembered she would have to tell her would-be client upfront that she would fire upon any Steel Ranger on sight.

The Smoke cleared quickly by a winter gust, unveiling a distressed mare running in pursuit from a couple raider's. In a flash Cle pulled the trigger on his enchanted gun...

*headshot!*

It had been a lucky shot, the bullet blasted the raider's skull and a raging inferno struck his whole body. This had caused his gang stop their tracks in the snow, looking wide-eyed at their leader. The Mare had got away safely, relieved Cle payed more attention to the rest of the gang. They were now scanning the street with their bloodshot eye's, Weapon's raised and showing anger for the pony who had dared to interfere with their evil plots. A smile played on Cle's lips as he began to aim down the scope...

*Bang!, Bang!, Bang!*

The group lay in a burning heap, Cle hurried down the scarred stair's eagerly and propelled himself out the jagged hole, trudging over in the thick snow to the center of the street to see what he could salvage from the ponies. He inspected his work, each the raider's bodies were now Scorched and a tone darker, and that was the case for most their equipment too. All that he could find in the ashes of their saddlebag's were several burnt apples and a canteen full of water, satisfied, he turned and made his way down the snow-capped street, encasing himself in his mystical mist. A sad thought pierced his mind, he didn't like killing ponies... he stopped, a frown appeared on his face...

'They tried to catch and kill that innocent mare!' a voice said in his head.

He was right, they were just as bad as those bloodthirsty Utopian Gang thugs and cowardly Steel ranger's. He absolutely hated them, since it was their fault in first buckin' place he lived this crappy lifestyle, guess the wasteland does that to all of us already too.

"Need to keep movin...'" he mumbled to himself quietly as he shivered and grasped his leather cloak closer. With his spell at work, he swiftly continued to walk to the outskirt's of Seaddle just as a new blizzard whipped up...

Marciline jumped into the air at the sound of the door knob giving a pained and rusted screech, somepony was trying to enter the house! Without thinking, Marci grabs her anti- Material rifle and steps by the door, deactivating the fragmentation mine as she did so. The door was being pushed inward and Marci could make out the head of a Pegasus mare, Leveling the rifle, Marci stepped form the shadows by the door. "Halt! State your business!" She recalled that this pony's get-up matched many a scavenger that Marci had seen before, this also went along with the pony's pitiful arsenal of only a knife. Marciline didnt rightly know how anyone would react to a full size alicorn jumping out of the shadows with a gun pointed at them, but she really hoped this one didnt make a dumb move, as so many before had.

Cleo had traveled at-least a mile as he battled his way through the heavy snowfall at a quiet pace, he was sure that his small den had collapsed in from the amount of snow that was falling, this amount of snow seemed record breaking then the snow-fall in the other years. 'Not such a huge loss'He thought to himself. Whilst thinking, he didn't notice Pegasus making her way down the hill on his right.

*trudge, trudge*

Cle stopped dead in his tracks and cautiously looked to where the sound originated. It was a Pegasus, she seemed to have her mind occupied and didn't make any recognition to his presence , though then again he doubted she could even see him if she stole a glance as he remembered he had his mist-cloaking spell activated. Her flank had a cutie mark of what looked like a Bronze Compass that pointed west, she seemed to look the same age as he did. He was going to make a move but hesitated as he probably didn't have anywhere to go, and she did look friendly, so his curiosity got the better of him and he quietly trotted behind her a safe distance.

After what seemed like 10 minutes of trudging behind a stranger on snowy plains, she took a quick left, interested he followed her to see a shape in the distance, a building, his mind-resolved happily. Maybe he did have somewhere to stay after all, maybe could befriend her, then she reached up to the dusty doorknob and pushed forwards...

"Y-you're an A-A-Ali...corn", she tried saying while being petrified by fear. After another second she finally blurted out. "I-I didn't know you live here, please don't shoot!" She tried to cover her head with her left fore-hoof.

Marci took a moment to examine the pony before her, her reaction was rather common, and thus Marci judged that she wasnt a threat. Lowering her rifle, Marciline stepped aside, "Yes, my name is Marciline, come on inside and out of the cold." She gestured inside with a fore-hoof and thought nothing of her total change from badass alicorn killer to soft hearted Marci. "I dont live here, but I hadnt expected company or else I would have cleaned up a bit." She stored her huge rifle and cast a fire- spell into the stove, creating warmth for the two of them. "You see, I'm just in from New Manehattan, and Im terribly new to this area!" She stopped, "I dont believe I caught your name?"

He saw an Alicorn pointing it's weapon at the pegasus who had shrink-ed back in fear, "Y-you're an A-A-Ali...corn"she said, "I-I didn't know you live here, please don't shoot!" she said as she lifted her hoof.
He saw a chance of intervention but stayed quiet as he saw her taken in by the Alicorn. Maybe he could knock and ask for help, but he watched through a crack in the window as he saw the stove light up...

(OOC:I fixed that well, guess I was late :) )

She gestured inside with a fore-hoof and thought nothing of her total change from badass alicorn killer to soft hearted Marci.

Arie slowly lowered her fore-leg, her expression was of terror mixed confusion. Without a second thought she cautiously fallowed the Alicorn into the cottage, not wanting to upset such a large and well armed creature. After the Alicorn started the fire and finished speaking, Arie spoke up.

"My name is Arie... I uh I live a bit east of here actually." She continued to stare, not sure what to think of a supposed "nice" Alicorn.

Cleo couldn't believe his eyes, the Alicorn had accepted the Pegasus into her room like she was family, He hadn't seen a Alicorn in Seaddle for 3 year''s and heard rumors that they were killer drones and merciless. They seemed to be talking to each other, he saw each of their mouths moving but couldn't make out what they were saying. He felt alone outside and snow was setting on his back. The thought of talking to the Alicorn scared him, he shivered again and pulled his tattered leather cloak closer to his side...

But again the Warmth looked so nice...

'Oh for buck sake...'

Before he knew what he was doing, he lifted his cloaking spell and stormed in the door, his pupils went to the size of prinpicks as he saw the pair jump up.
"I saw l-l-light c-coming from the w-window, my shack f-fell and i h-had no where t-to stay, p-please help me..." he whispered, backing away then he fell to the floor and fainted out of fear...

"Arie..." Marci tried the name on for size, "A beautiful name, cant say that I have heard it before either." A smile crosses her face, "And that means something coming from me!" She gets the feeling that somepony was watching them, but keeps her suspicions to herself as she casts a glance out the window, she had seen zebra stealth tech before, but wasnt seeing any of the subtle signs of it. Marci noticed the pegisus still staring at her in awe, and resisted the very strong urge to shake it out of her and scream in her face. Instead she said simply, "You look as though Nighmare Moon jumped out at you! Haven't you seen an alicorn before?" She giggled inwardly at her little pun, as she could be mistaken for such a creature if it was dark because of her color.

But suddenly a unicorn had burst down the door and scared the shit out of Marci. She caught him with her levitation before he hit the ground and looked at Arie, "Is he with you?" Was all she could say

Arie looked frantically from the Unicorn to Marci before speaking. "N-no, I've never seen him around before... is he okay?"

Marci levitated the stallion easily up to her face for a closer look, "Well, besides being cold, I think he fainted..." Sighing, she set the stallion down by the fire and spoke out loud to herself, "Just one day in Seaddle." She turns to Arie, "Is this how most days in Seaddle go?"

"Well, I really wouldn't know, I normally avoid going anywhere near Seaddle... but I've ran out of nearby locations to scavenge, so I'm essentially forced to go scavenging towards the outskirts of Seaddle... but eventually even those will be stripped of their valuables, and I'll have to actually venture within the city." She said with slight sadness.

"I see." Was all Marci said as she contemplated cities past and compared them to Seaddle, and resolved to discover the city's secrets. "Lets just hope that Seaddle isnt like Hoofington." She continued. "Have you ever been to Hoofington Arie?" She asked the mare.

"Well... no, I actually tend to stick near my home. It'd be a bad day if I ran into some bandi-err raiders and all I have to defend my self are a few pencils and a knife that's not even fit to cut cloth, however I would like to go visit other places in the wasteland, really the only pass time I have around here is making maps... and making a map of the same area gets a bit stale after awhile." She said while removing her goggles, and rubbing the spot where they were pressing down.

Marci's ears perked up at the mention of a map, "Well, I'll tell you that it isnt a good place. Terrible really." She gets a sly look on her face, "I heard you say something about a map? Would you mind if I looked at one?" She said nothing about her photographic memory... or the horrible fits of rage and insanity she was prone to, she felt it might kill the mood. Thus, she concentrated ever harder on keeping the thoughts in her head from becoming unbearable.
