Antiquity Rises Rampant DEAD.

Postby Emilio Aguinaldo » Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:10 am

Mankind has started to build great civilizations some eight thousand years ago, it spawned the Aegyptians, Sumerians, Minoans, and various other great civilizations. But, there are many more upstarts like you trying to build a great civilization, will you lead your people to victory? Will you write you and your people's name on the history books? Or will you just be the slave work force of another civilization? Step forward dear leader, for your people need you!

OFFICIAL MAP: http://i.imgur.com/Y54sBfC.png
We should add a backstory to I guess? And the export - import part doesn't make much sense

Name of Civilization: Drakonians
Location: South Pelloponese (depends on how big we are going to allow people start)
Specialty (warfare, farming, trade, etc): Warfare (Spartan model)
Nomad or Settled: Settled
History: The Drakonians are the native people of South Pelloponese. According to the myth they are the children of Drako, a demigod who was raised by a female Dragon. He was raised in a cave in South Pelloponese. After he grew up he decided that it was the time for him to prove himself and leave his mark on this earth. Thus he conquered vast areas of land where he created his kingdom, which was given to his children. (This is a myth that didn't happen, the RP has no fictional races and stuff like that)
Culture: The Drakonians are proud people whose main goal in life is to prove their divine origin, something which can only be shown in battle. That is how they explain their military based culture. Of course it isn't as extreme as RL Sparta's but it has a lot of common elements. The society is very dependent on family which is sacred. All Drakonians are equal since all of them have the same origin, thus their ultimate leader, the King, is elected by all citizens who are over 20 and rules for life. The King however can't act as he wishes, there is a group of 12 men, whose job is to make sure that the King acts for the benifit of the people. This 12 men are also elected by all citizens over 20, but for a man to join the 12 men group, he has to be over 40.
The children's education is, for the time being, purely focused around military training which starts when they are 7 and taken away from their homes.
Their culture is advanced for its time with houses and a form of goverment going on, but it is still primitive. An alphabet is also in existance but it is far from perfect.
They are also using ships to trade and travel, but their trips mainly focus on the E.Mediteranean.
Their religion is the Greek Pantheon

History: The Vincan civilization is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It has been the center of culture during the 5th millenia BC but has fallen from that positions due to the many wars Vincans fought(with each other and with their neighboors). Now Vinca is ruled by Iskren Usk, a powerful military figure and Vincan politician. He looks to expand the Vincan influence once more and make it a great power. Vincans are warriors, trained almost from their childhood(13 years old) to be strong and endurant. There are several cities in Vinca that are considered significant trading centers, but nothing to extraordinary. Vincans mostly get their profit and food from farming and others from fishing and hunting(9%).
Culture?: Vinca was one the most influencial culture in the world. It is was a very advanced civilization that lost a lot of its technology during terrible wars between themselves and some neighboors. Today Vinca, however, is still fairly advanced and its citizens greatly take part in its advancing culture. They are also very militaristic and are all trained in the arts of warfare. While they do travel via seas from time to time, they arent exactly the sailor type. However Vincans are some of the best horsemen in Europe, and they use that advantage regularly. The religion in Vinca is its own kind of paganism. They developed their religion separate from other cultures. The way it funciotns is there is only one God(Svebog), however there are 12 sub-gods that were created by Svebog and they serve him.

Accepted, but due to it's history and size I will make a compromise. When the leader dies the realm should fracture and the person who can unite it by military might wins the "empire"

IMO he covers too much land and kinda splits the Balkans in to... can we restrict him in the northen areas and maybe give him the adriatic coast instead of Vardaska ?

Yes it is but I would prefer it if people started smaller. That way more people can join and we can avoid blobs. I for example am starting with half of Pelloponese

Another compromise. I will RP the generals. Some will be supportive, some will be neutral, and some will want you dead.

Aaaah I dunno. And are you going to make a tribe?
Also, should I use the Victoria II map?

Name of Civilization: The Simerii
Location: Northern Syria
Specialty (warfare, farming, trade, etc): Warfare
Nomad or Settled: Nomadic
If Nomad trader or raider: Raiders (with capability for trade)
History: The Simerii were an Indo European people who have recently migrated from north of the Black Sea into the Near East, fierce warriors who have brought horses with them from their homeland, raiding and destroying where they go. However, the Simerrii may lack the sophistication of their neighbours, and are certainly yet to develop iron weaponry. It may be they will soon look to establish a kingdom of their own, though for the time being, they may will go where they please
Culture: Typical migratory indo european, highly religious favouring a martial chariot based aristocracy. They have yet to develop the skills of agriculture, preferring to hunt, forage or steal from others.

So I guess we’re even.” - Mike Treder

May I suggest that the nomads in the map isn't necessarily the area they are controlling, but the area they are located seeing how they could just be raiding the already existing state of that province

A few general notes on the apps of others; horses were only beginning to be domesticated around this time period, and only see use as beasts of burden for quite a few centuries more. There certainly aren't any mounted armies, as the stirrup and saddle had yet to be invented. Chariots are still a ways off even. Also, iron is as rare as a miracle, as it's currently only obtainable from fallen meteorites. Bronze is only barely starting to be used by larger Middle-Eastern cities and empires, and even copper isn't used for much other than plows; refined smelting techniques won't be seen for another five hundred years or so, and then you'll start seeing armor or weapons.

Name of Civilization: Ameralites
Location: Southern Palestine, specifically six Vicy provinces west of the Sea of Galilee until the Med.
Specialty: The Ameralites are a highly-productive agrarian society, famed primarily for their artisans and craftsmanship of all types.
Nomad or Settled: Settled, though fringe Houses travel frequently across the less productive acreages know to the Ameralites.
If Nomad trader or raider: The Ameralites aren't nomads.
History: The Ameralites are an ancient seafaring people; historically, they migrated down the coast of Asia Minor and Palestine from near the northern Black Sea region during their nomadic phase, looting and plundering as they went, driven onwards by their overpopulation. Eventually they came to the region they now inhabit, and their Patriarch Amass Ameral said, "This land is rich, a land flowing with milk and honey. Here a wandering tree can put down deep roots in black soil." So they settled, rapidly transitioning for their pastoralism to varied agriculture, which flourished in the rich climate of Palestine. Increased food production and nutrients led to an increase in job specialization, with a distinct artisanal class emerging. Raids on their unwalled towns by nomadic tribes led to the evolution of a small professional military class know as Battlelords, supported by the goods of the populace below them, and the modern-day Ameralites live in a variety of city-states or polises that are united every two generations or so by a particularly ambitious Amerali Battlelord or artisan-ruler, only to return to business as usual upon his death.
Culture: Ameralites are, by and large, a people who value industry and skill over wealth and health. Most cities are governed by Artisan-Rulers, men of great prowess in their chosen field who have risen to prominence through their wealth acquired from the trade of their superior goods throughout the lands of the Ameralites and beyond. Under them are the Battlelords of a given city, generally only fifty to a hundred warriors in larger cities, representing about one in five hundred citizens, supported by the polis and trained towards martial perfection so ij time of war they may lead their untrained countrymen well. Battlelords will occasionally rule cities if large nomad incursions occur, at the consent of the polis, which votes in an open forum. Votes are weighted by contributions in a given year to the central government in either labor or goods, and as such both a fairly complex writing system consisting of forty tonal symbols and a crude currency in the form of ox-hide shaped copper wedges have developed. Sea trade is prevalent in the coastal city-states, and advanced long-boat vessels reach as far afield as Crete, southern Asia Minor, and Libya. Bronze is used for plowing in richer city-states, a development that has led to great agricultural fertility, and rich Battlelords bear copper weapons and bronze shields, though most make do with copper and leather.

So, G-Tech, my fleets certainly reach Crete and propably some A.Minor coastes, so our people surely know about each other.

I have a feeling you will go Phoenician on my ass and try to colonise my land, won't you?

And is the map ok?
