The Farseers |Open|OoC|Reboot|

The Farseers

This is a roleplay of epic proportions, following a band of assorted men and women on a quest to right the wrongs dealt to their country. The first goal is to simply fight off the enemy as well as possible; soon, everything will worsen. I plan for this to extend over quite a few arcs, up to five, even. SIgning up for this means dedication.

The Wheel

History books tell of an enigma called The Wheel. This Wheel is the Wheel of Time, which is the endless spinning of events. Always, there will be disaster, then peace, then disaster. The White Prophet foretells the events happening in the current Cycle, sometimes playing major parts as well. The Catalyst either guarantees that Time will continue, or fails, and lets everything be destroyed. The Fool, the White Prophet of the earlier generation, was a more active one; the Catalyst, FitzChilvary, did not fail. The wheel continued.

Will it, this time?

Long, long ago, the Seven Duchies, then the Six, were imperiled.

The Red-Ship Raiders battered the shores, unrelenting, not taking but destroying. The Coastal Duchies of Bearns, Stoaks and Rippon were hard-pressed to even keep the ships at bay, much less drive the force from their coasts. Buckkeep, the fortress-palace in the Duchy of Buck, housed King Shrewd. He did little, initially, deeming it too small a threat; until the Forgings.

In the town of Forge, a place renowned for the quality iron it produced, men and women were captured by the Raiders. Days later, they were returned as mindless beasts. They fought for anything of even slight value they could get their hands on, and while they would work together, to a degree, betrayal was inevitable. These 'Forged Folk', as they were eventually called, were less than men - they stopped at nothing to get what they wanted. The Forged ones caused further grief to the Coastal Duchies, and Buck was nor forced to more openly participate. King-in-Waiting Verity, who had gained the title from his brother, Chivalry, abdicating, used his Skill-powers to try to keep the Red-Ships at bay. But he could do little without a coterie.

Coteries had been formed since the beginning of the Duchies to aid Skilled kings and princes in their endeavors, be this by giving the Skilled ones strength, protecting them in times of need, relaying messages or further befuddling the minds of enemies. (See Skill spoiler.) Men and women with potential for the Skill were brought to the Keep, and educated by a Skillmaster on how to use this new-found power. Solicity, the Skillmaster when Verity was a child, had educated only the two princes and a smattering of other, less successful men and women; she died from a severe cough. Galen, a young man then, stated himself new Skillmaster. He made no effort to train others, until Verity commanded him to.

This effort included Burl, a carpenter's son; Serene, a thatcher's daughter; Justin, a keep boy; Fitz, Chivalry's bastard - who had forced him to abdicate- Carrod, a young noble's son; and Will, a child of unknown origin. They were beaten and starved, to 'drill' the Skill into them; this tactic made barely useful puppets. Fitz did not pass; the rest did. This coterie was employed immediately.

Verity set upon his task with new relish - he had a coterie. But this coterie, it seemed, was inadequate; messages arrived too late, which allowed towns to be destroyed and more people to be Forged. It seemed to be mistakes, but this was not so - though Verity and King Shrewd knew nothing of it, they were actually faithful to Regal, King Shrewd's get with King Desire, who had died of drug use. Her son was no better. He was a pretty thing, cruel and petty as well; he did silly things on whims. However, no one knew of his betrayals until later.

Things became increasingly worse; watch towers were captured, defensive structures destroyed. The Coastal Duchies faltered, ever so slowly, with only winters for respite, while the Inland Duchies, already loyal to Regal, did naught but watch. The Mountain Kingdoms, independent for so long, were the only hope, and a slim one at that. Nevertheless, a marriage was arranged between Kettricken, King Eyod's young daughter, and King-in-Waiting Verity. Kettricken later proved to be an able leader, and was called 'The Vixen Queen' affectionately.

Verity eventually became desperate. He began to believe that the Elderlings, supposedly fictional beings that had saved the Duchies in desperate times like this in the reign of King Wisdom, were the only hope. When permission was granted by King Shrewd, he immediately set out to find these beings. Regal, who already had a hold on the castle, supported this idea to remove Verity's competition. He had been drugging King Shrewd, who was now little more than a puppet. King Shrewd had few moments of lucidity, but when he accepted Verity's request to chase after a tale, he had been quite so.

Kettricken did what little she could to stop the Red-Ships, but soon after, the Coastal Duchy of Bearns fell. Rippon seemed to be heading the same way, and nothing would stop this, likely. The Queen-In-Waiting had discovered Regal's plots, however, and knew that he would soon kill King Shrewd, and her, to gain the throne. An unseen aid, later revealed to be Chade Fallstar, bastard brother of King Shrewd, organized their escape, along with one called the Fool; a jester so pale he was nothing short of snow white. However, on the night of the threesome's escape, King Shrewd was killed by the false coterie members Justin and Serene, using the Skill. Fitz, now known as FitzChivalry, hunted the duo down and killed them. Regal used him as a scapegoat, saying he had killed the king with his Wit. This was false, though he did possess the Wit - but Fitz was executed ... or so most thought.

The Fool and Queen-In-Waiting Kettricken made it to the mountains, the latter's homeland. There Kettricken's child, discovered at Buckkeep, was stillborn. This brought great sorrow to Kettricken, piling on top of the fact that she thought Verity was dead. When Fitz, having escaped Buck, made his way to the Mountain Kingdoms, after a fail of epic proportions in trying to assassinate Regal, he assured her Verity was alive. They set out, traveling on a Skill-wrought road, and faced many trials, but in the end found Verity, after seeing dragons perfectly preserved and sculpted. Verity had discovered how to make an Elderling; one had to make a dragon like this, then pour his soul into it. Aided by Fitz, he succeded in becoming and Elderling. Fitz also managed to Skill-control Regal, as his potential still existed for the Skill, and have him surrender. The Red-Ships were chased away, everything set aright.

When would disaster strike again? When would the Wheel turn?

Hey, Shad here. This is The Farseers, an epic fantasy roleplay that has a changing story. The group fails to do this? C happens. They succeed? B happens. It's also my most ambitious project to date, with a pretty long OP. You can RP anyone from a simple mercenary to a Farseer heir. Anyway, enjoy.

The Present

The Seven Duchies, two hundred years later, ruled by King Earnest, prospers. The Chalced States have finally abandoned slavery, crime is low, and Bearns, Rippons and Shoaks have been rebuilt. Life is as quaint as it gets in the Duchies, and currently young King Earnest seeks a Queen. The obvious match is Lady Celerity, a strong-willed, attractive, kind woman from Bearns. This would patch the state of unease between Buck and Bearns. There is no heir, besides some distant family *cough*.

The Mountains, the seventh Duchy, is at odds with Farrow, caused by their closing of many important trade routes. This is arguably the largest problem right now - or was. There are reports of raids on Shoaks, though it is of little matter. Only a small village called Trophy was attacked, and though this town is mostly in ruins, no one frets much. However, there is a small rumor...

It is said the hull of the raiding ship was painted crimson.

The Skill has no known origin, being as old as time itself. Anyone can have this gift, though it is quite rare. *cough*. It seems to run strong in the Farseer bloodline. The Skill can be used for quite a bit, from relaying simple messages and influencing the enemy's mind, to gleaning information and even causing pain. Only very skilled Skill users can do the latter two. However, the Skill has drawbacks; its users become addicted, in a sense, and have an appetite for the Skill. Skilled ones, when using their magic, often are reluctant to eat. It takes a physical toll, and as such, many Skill users are thin men and women. Things one does with the Skill includes:
  • Relaying of information over vast distances
  • Subtle influencing of the mind, to make your goals easier to achieve
  • Blasts of energy that stun enemy, and, if the user is powerful enough, can erase Skill ability
  • Gathering information discreetly
  • Controlling others completely(a more powerful form of the influencing of one's mind)
  • 'Living' in another's body; they carry your Skill presence around, and you see and hear what they see and hear
  • The causing of great physical pain
  • And much more.

The Wit, often called beast magic, is the ability to hear the thoughts of animals, and 'speak' to them. Bonding, in which a Witted man and an animal can hear each other and speak to each other even from far away, as well as creating an inseverable bond, is common to Witted ones. The Wit is called the Old Blood by those so gifted, or cursed, as some would say. The Wit is quite useful, and is not the vile thing people have made it out to be. Queen Kettricken herself possessed the Wit.The Wit can be used for only a few things, including:
  • The act of repelling, where one uses the Wit to cause their target to reel, both physically and mentally
  • The act of bonding, creating an ever-loyal sentient animal companion
  • The communication of thoughts

The RSR terrorized the Six Duchies in the last Cycle, completely destroying two Duchies. Shoaks was kept barely alive from charity. They are sinister people, horrible even, with no intent other than to rape and kill.

Anything You Need To Know?

Information You Need:

Is Not Knowing This Going To Keep You From Joining?:

1. Respect each other. Keep arguments to a minimum and if someone asks you to refrain from unnecessary behavior, stop.

2. Please obey me. However, this isn't a dictatorship; you can argue your point.

3. Three strikes, you're out. If you don't leave when asked, I will contact moderation.

The first time I did this, it died. It died fucking horribly, with not a single post. What did I do wrong, do you think? (The original was nearly the same, with some edits to apps and rules.)

Because the story is difficult to get into if you haven't read the Fitz Chivalry books :p.

I'll join, but I'm a rather overextended poster at the moment... so my posting will be rather infrequent :).

Aww yisss. FitzChivalry.

Unglorified tag for egosearch. Still deciding if I want to join in or not - or just read the RP if it gets off the ground.
