You only heard the song being sung to you. It's the first time anyone has brought music to you? We can't always act on every chorus, dear heart. Sometimes all we can do is listen."
He brushed the hair from her face and rubbed his thumb across her wet cheek. "Sometimes that's all we can do," he soothed.
"But... he was not faceless... I knew him well..." she could speak more clearly now. It was always easier to do so when a person immediately understood the situation and did not make you restate the tragedy. "He knew me, and he knew better. There were better and he chose one he knew despite her weakness, but his trust was too heavy for her to carry." She looked down.
