Welcome to Tomio Hara University High School, a school dedicated to raising young girls into upstanding women in society. The school has done this through a striking heritage in its girls Sensha-Do team. Sensha-Do is the art of operating tanks, and is exclusively for girls in high school and college level. It develops their self esteem and encourages them to grow into strong young women. Competitions are between two schools where they are pitted against each other in full elimination or flag tank elimination style matches.

However in current years Tomio Hara's Sensha-Do program has begun to decline to the point where last year the number of working tanks rounded out at a paltry two. After a petition by the surviving members, as well as girls who were interested in joining for the first time, the school has agreed to give the program a reboot and try to regain its former name by encouraging girls to join.

Kaede, Aimi, Hiroko, and Hoshi all arrived to school early on their bikes as usual. Growing up so far away from the school building forced them to find a faster mode of transportation than walking, and they weren't allowed to take their tank over summer break. After locking the bikes up the girls headed into the school, waiting for the opening ceremony held at the beginning of every year.

"Well another year o' having the tiniest Sensha-Do team around." Hiroko said annoyedly. "At least I ain't got much to fix if there's only two tanks."
"Oh hush." Kaede replied. "We made the petition before break to revive the team, its up to the school board as to whether it went through or not."
"Well maybe we could encourage people if we cleaned up the tanks and bring 'em out to stir the air a bit." Hoshi suggested. "It'd give me an excuse to drive the Stug again."
"Of course it would." Hiroko said. Aimi interjected to voice her agreement. "I think its a good idea."
All Kaede had to do was give a glance to her friends to see that they were all in agreement on it. With a light shrug it was enough to tell her friends that they would do that, and they headed off toward the garage.

Yuri Ishii stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her uniform neckerchief. She smiled awkwardly at the girl who looked back at her. After a few days spent getting her sea legs, she was finally ready to begin her new life alone. Sort of.

“Yuririn~!” She heard the door to her apartment burst open and felt something latch onto her stomach, knocking her to the floor. She opened her eyes and found herself staring into the smiling face of her best friend since who knew when, Hikaru Takei.

“Hahaha~,” the energetic girl laughed as Yuri adjusted her glasses. “We’re finally high schoolers, aren’t we! And you look so cute, too!” Yuri smiled wanly as she stood up. Unlike her, Hikaru had always been very friendly and energetic. Attending Tomio Hara had been her idea as well.

“Come on, you two,” said the final member of the trio of childhood friends. Ayumi Kuniikida adjusted her school bag and pulled Hikaru up. “We’re gonna be late if you don’t hurry it up.” Hikaru beamed.

“Well, then, let’s roll!” She picked up Yuri in a bridal carry and raced out the door and down the stairs. Ayumi chuckled and followed behind. Just another morning for them, she thought.

At the bottom of the stairs, Ritsuko Naoe was just passing the apartment building when Hikaru barreled into her, sending all of them flying. Ritsuko winced as she picked herself, then saw Yuri sprawled out on the ground in front of her. Her first instinct was to tell the first year high schooler off for lacking caution, but she decided against it (There’s a sucker born every minute, she reminded herself), pasted a smile on her face, and offered her hand.

“Are you alright?” she said as she extended her hand. Yuri looked at it, then at her, and accepted it with a nod. Ritsuko very deliberately dusted off the girl’s clothes, making sure not to break her smile.

“I don’t think I’ve seen you around,” she said. “Are you a new transfer to Tomio Hara?” Yuri nodded.

“Hey! How’d you know that!?” Hikaru had picked herself up in the meantime and bounded over to them, bleeding slightly from a cut on her forehead. Ritsuko smiled.

“I like to think I know pretty much everyone around here,” she said as she took a handkerchief from her pocket and dabbed at Hikaru’s cut. And how to fuck them over, she added in her mind. “And I think I’d remember a fireball like you.” Hikaru chuckled.

“Guilty as charged,” she said. “The name’s Hikaru Takei, but everyone calls me Hikaru. That there’s Yuririn-“ At this point, Yuri bowed and introduced herself- “and comin’ down the steps there is Ayuyu.” Ayumi ran over to them.

“Are you alright?” she said, noticing the cut on Hikaru’s forehead. She then bowed.

“I am Ayumi Kunikida,” she said politely. “My friends and I just arrived a few days ago.” Ritsuko smiled.

“It is a pleasure. I am Ritsuko Naoe. I am a third year and a member of the disciplinary committee at Tomio Hara University High School. If there is ever anything you have trouble with, please feel free to ask me.”

With pleasantries completed, the four girls began walking towards the school. As they walked, Ritsuko learned that all three of the freshman girls had been on the student council in middle school and recommended that they join the disciplinary committee, a suggestion Hikaru accepted enthusiastically. By the time they arrived at the school gates, a rapport had developed…

There was an audible "shlack" as the large browning 30.cal machine gun was slid back into place in the Sherman's hull. The girl, a senior in high school, had pale blond hair and and light almost grey eyes. She currently wore a dark blue mechanics jumpsuit. Like the rest of her crew their uniforms were hanging up on the wall of the hanger.
"Well looks like that's finally done." Yuki announced as she sat up whipping her grease covered hands on her jumpsuit pants. "Hows the Radio coming Yew?"
"Everything checks out. Looks like the only thing to happen over break was some dust collection." The green haired girl who stood over Yuki replied with a smile.
"That's good to hear." Yuki stood up and crawled away from the radio operators station and out into the Firefly's turret. She looked over at the red headed gunner, named Shun, who was currently cleaning the gunners sights after alignment. The red head looked over at Yuki and nodded to show that everything was going along great. Yuki climbed up to the commanders seat and opened the turret. She lifted herself halfway out of the tank. The turret had actually been turned backwards so that the crew could clean the massive 17-pounder gun. The red head gunner Ren was currently putting the cleaning supplies away.
"I take it your done cleaning Ren?" Yuki shouted across the hanger. Ren turned to face Yuki.
"Yep everything's good." She replied in her usual friendly tone. Yuki looked down to see the Sherman's engine cover removed and the teams driver, Akira, checking over the engine.
"Everything looks good." Akira informed Yuki without looking up, almost as if she could sense the commanders gaze.
"You know. It's scary how you can do that." Yuki chuckled. Akira looked up with a cute puzzled expression on her face. Yuki smiled and chuckled some more.
"Well then looks like everything is good to go for the year." Yuki pulled herself fully from the turret.
"You know Captain I've been thinking." Ren approached the from where the cleaning supplies were stored. She was busy unzipping her jumpsuit, revealing a white undershirt.
"Since were never going to get to use this thing in a tank match again, do you think anyone would eject to us modifying ammunition and bringing it with us to an airsoft tourney?"
"Well I imagine the teams we'd be going up against might have a problem with it." Yuki's comment brought everyone to laughter. The sound of approaching footsteps caused them all to look at the garage entrance.
"Oh hey it's Hazard team." Yuki said aloud to no one in particular. "KAEDE HOWS IT GOING." She shouted to the other team.

"Why do have to Carry Yuki,Charlotta!? She's as heavy as hippo!" Groaned the blacked hair girl as she tried her best to hold up the sleeping girl.
"Because you lost the bet Samantha! and you very well knew that she would be asleep, like she always is!' Charlotta anwsered with a cheerful tone"besides you need some time away from that Modern Warzone game and actually lift something other than your fingers"
"Hey! That game is vaulable and besides you watch tv much more then i play it!Besides your not the one carrying a girl who can eat as much as a African elephant!" Samantha shouted at charlotta with rage and anger in her eyes
"hey, hey now your saying a game is more valuable then friends?" Charlotta smiled and skipped into the school,As Samantha groaned and followed behind.

"Hey Yuki-chan!" Kaede said. "Already hard to work on checking the first half of our armory I see." The other three gave a wave to Yuki and her team before heading over to their Sturmgeschutz III. Hoshi could clearly be seen hugging it as Kaede continued to talk with Yuki. "So another school year that we start of with just two tanks. Ya know I was thinkin maybe we could stir up some interest, along with some dust, by takin these two out so people can see them. You interested?

Yuki thought about it for a moment as she unzipped her jumpsuit and hopped down from the tank.
"I suppose it depends on what exactly you had in mind." She walked over to her uniform and took it of the the wall. She then began to walk towards the changing room. The other girls on the team were doing the same.
"I mean we wouldn't want to make it to dramatic." Yuki explained from behind the changing room door. "Otherwise we might scare away potential teams, or worse get ourselves in trouble with the disciplinary committee." She opened the door and steppe out dressed in her school uniform. "After the soda pop incident the Riflery club is hanging on by a thread as it is. I can't afford another mistake like that." She walked with Kaede over to the Stug. "So. Anyways please do share what you were thinking of doing."

As the sun peeked in through the closed blinds of a dark bedroom window and shown on the peaceful sleeping face of a young girl, the door slammed open and she shot up in fear only to see her roommate in uniform and ready for school.

"Dani! Get up! You're going to be late!" The roommate yelled out like a banshee.
Danielle looked at her clock and sighed. "We've still got a few hours Rika..." She whined and pulled her blanket over her head.
The roommate, Ulrika, huffed and stomped over then pulled off the blankets. Danielle shivered and tried reached for them, but to no avail. She sighed again and sat up on the edge of her bed.

"Fine.. I'll get up.." Danielle whimpered then stood up and dragged herself to the bathroom. She took off her pajamas and climbed in the shower.
Ulrika nodded and walked into the hallway and pounded on a another door and woke up two other girls as if she were leading a boot camp. The last door however, soon as it opened loud music came bursting out. She covered her ears and walked in following the source of the music, she found an iPod mounted on a pair of speakers blaring music on a nightstand. She turned it off and in the bed next to it the blankets began shuffling. A head popped out half asleep.

"What's the deal? Why'd you turn off my music?" The girl said quietly and reached for the iPod but yelped when it was met with a slap.
"It's time to get up Kaz. Now go take a shower and get ready for school." Ulrika said firmly.
Kazuna sighed and nodded. "Yes drill seargent.." She slowly got up and went to the shower.

Ulrika walked back to the kitchen of the small house and started to cook. An hour or so later the girls walked in and sat at the table. One of the best parts about living with Ulrika was her cooking of foreign foods. She'd fix large breakfasts with lots of different cheeses, meats, multiple jams and honey, boiled eggs, fruit and vegetables, smoked fish and different kinds of rolls or hearty, seeded bread that she received from her family back home.

After the feast the girls had all pitched in to clean up and put what was left away then got ready for school. They gathered their backpacks and anything else they wanted to bring, namely cell phones and a pair of headphones for Kazuna, and walked to school.

After walking several blocks, the came to the school and walked in. They looked at their scheduals and by chance, they all had the same homeroom! They were excited and walked in then found seats near the back of the class and took their seats.
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum."
"Wewf Forever, Forever Wewf."
"Is it? Or is it so ridiculous it's the most ridiculously perfect idea you've never thought of?"

"Well I was just thinkin that tanks are kinda hard to miss if the'yre around a school."Kaede explained. "They're outta their element. Even if we just had them out of the garage and sitting outside I'm sure some people will notice them, and hopefully more people will be told about it and the interested students will show up. I'm just looking for some way that we can raise school awareness of the club without the School Board, cause until they accept the petition and help us get off the ground we don't have much to go on."

"Hm. That sounds like a good idea to me." Yuki replied. She took a look at the Stug and then glanced over at her teams Firefly. "It's a good thing that the two tanks we have here are pretty well known." She smiled with the idea that the infamous Stug III and the Tiger killing Sherman Firefly drawing crowds to them. Her smile quickly turned into a frown as she eyed the rusting shell of a Tiger, a Tiger that had long ago been stripped of practically every useful part and sold to another school. She looked back at the Stug and then at the Fierfly.
"Then again how many people have actually heard of the Stug III, and how many do you think can distinguish the Firefly from a normal Sherman?"

"To the inexperienced I'd say between slim and none." Hiroko said as she passed by after finishing her look at the Stug's engine.
Kaede rolled her eyes slightly. "She makes a point; only those who are serious about tanks would know. Although even just seeing any tank might make those that don't know a little bit curious. Did you have something else in mind?"

Yuki folded fer arms, shifted her weight to her left foot, and shrugged slightly. She turned her head and started at the Firefly.
"Unfortunately I don't have a better idea. Hell before you suggested making an attempt to get the tankery team back up and running we were going to see if we could get the thing into our airsoft matches." She looked back at Kaede. "After the opening ceremony is orientation, you know go to your classes etc. Well after lunch the students examine what clubs and electives there are to see if they are interested. Since I think it would be a bad idea to let them into this hanger until they'r committed, I say we just park them right outside. They'll be sure to draw attention and we won't loose any students by giving them a look at this...." She paused as she looked around the hanger filled with stripped or hopelessly irreparable hulls. "...Saddening disaster that was out team."
"Hey, if were looking to gain new members then we may want to run an inventory on what tanks could still be salvaged." Ren pointed out as she approached the two commanders. "If you want me and Akira could probably do it."

"That'd probably be a good idea." Kaede said. "We might find out more of them are salvageable than we thought. So long as you two are ok with that then it'd help. If you'd like I'm sure my tea would be glad to help..."
Her last word trailed off as she heard the loudspeaker crackle to life. "Moto Kaede to the office, Moto Kaede to the office please."
"Wonder what they could want. I don't think I did anything to be punished for. If you'll excuse me Yuki-chan." She bowed to Yuki and walked out towards the office.

Tick....tock....tick....tock....tick....tock....tick....tock....

The chess club room was deathly silent. Not a single other sound was as overbearing as the constant ticking from the small timer off to the side of the board. On the white side, sat Tomiko von Luger; opposite to her on the black side was Elena Pavlova. Ania Hayashi, or Ashley as she prefered to be called, sat on the one side with Molly MacMillan on the other. The two spectators stared at the board, entranced. Elena seemed calm and collected, while her opponent was obviously sweating bullets and had her eye twitching in frustration.

"Come on, I don't have all day." Elena protested, putting emphasis on the last word. Tomiko growled and moved her Knight up and a space to the left before hitting the timer button. The clocks changed roles so that now Elena's side of the timer was ticking. But it wasn't ticking for long, as she moved her Rook up and hit the button. "Check." She said. Tomiko studied the board while Ashley and Molly's gaze shifted up to her. Tomiko moved her King away and hit the timer. She had only enough time to sigh with her eyes closed before the timer was hit again and Elena let the word "Checkmate" ring from her mouth.

Tomiko's eyes popped open. She looked down at the board and saw that Elena's Queen was planted firmly ahead of her King after taking the Knight. "That's the fifth one in a row." Molly said. Tomiko stood up and flung the chessboard up while screaming in a fit of rage, sending pieces scattering everywhere. Molly got smacked with the Black King and Ashley was struck by a White Bishop, but the one piece that flew at Elena was caught. She had snatched a White Rook out of the air before it even touched her. "You can pick these up soon, Ms. Tomiko." Elena told her. "Grrr....how am I supposed to get better if you keep beating me?! Screw this game!" Tomiko shouted. "You still have much to learn, but think. This match lasted a great deal longer than your first one." The girl sighed and hung her head. "That doesn't make me feel any better." She said, retrieving the pieces and board.

"You keep doing that, Tomiko-chan, and we'll have to buy a new set soon." Ashley said. Tomiko put everything away and settled down into the seat. "You keep telling me that, and so far we haven't had to." "It'll happen eventually. Mark my words." "So what do your schedules look like today, ladies?" Molly asked. "Well, I don't really have many classes in the afternoon." Tomiko said. Ashley smiled. "Awww....does Molly-chan want someone to hang out with her?" Molly smiled and waved her hand dismissively. "Oh no, just curious." She replied. "Well I have things to attend to, so I will see you all back here later in the day. Remember, bring food." And with that, Molly left the room.

"What about you, Elly-chan?" Ashley said. Elena sighed. "I will be going straight to my dorm after class, and then I will be coming back here." The girl replied. "Awww...you're no fun. Why don't you ever let us come over?" "Because there is nothing you need at my dorm." Ashley relented for now and sighed. "Well, I'm off to get some lunch. Would you two like to come with me?" "Sure." "Why not." Tomiko put the chessboard away and walked with Elena out to meet up with Ashley. The three headed to the cafeteria, much to the delight of their rumbling stomachs.

Yuri went ahead to check the bulletin board, and was pleasantly surprised to discover that she, Hikaru, and Ayumi had all been assigned to the same homeroom. She was a bit less pleasantly surprised by yet another of Hikaru’s hug-tackles. The three girls walked up to their classroom and took seats off to the side, idly chatting, and just generally killing time before the opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, Ritsuko had gone to the disciplinary committee room, briefly greeting several other committee members before sitting down. The atmosphere was tense. She and the other members were concerned about their lack of a chairman. At the end of last year, the committee had splintered around three different candidates for the post, herself included, but with no outright winner and no way to break the deadlock, it seemed the perfect opportunity for an outsider to come in. The riflery club’s soda pop stunt hadn’t helped matters. She shuddered when she remembered it.

*Bang* "Ooh, interesting..."

*Crash* "Uwah, what was that?!*

Jolted awake by someone's obnoxiously loud voice and noise is possibly my top pet peeve. Hell, I'd give almost everything to have another half hour of sleep right now. Burning the midnight oil sure wreaks havoc on my body. I buried my head beneath the covers and hugged my stuffed penguin, willing the damn noise to go away and leave me in peace and quiet, so that I could catch another nap before getting up to do my chores.

*SLAM* *CRASH* *BANG* "Oh, shi-"

"WILL YOU KEEP THE BLOODY NOISE DOWN!" Screaming in frustration, I made a snatch for my bedside clock. "It's only four in the morning!"

It's pointless wishing for the ruckus to quieten down now. With that maverick in the house, you could be sure that almost everything was gonna go wrong once she got her grubby hands on it. I proceeded to wrench my bedroom door open and storm out, heading to the kitchen where I could still hear some yelps and whines.

"Kanata, if it's you trying to bake another exploding cake, I'm gonna knock the bloody stuffing out of you! Last time we had to scrape it all off the walls, plus pay indemnification to the landlord!" Saying that, I slid open the door to the kitchen. What greeted me was -

"Oh, hi there, Akira." My jaw must have dropped. As I suspected, Kanata was sitting on the floor, grinning at me in the midst of a whole damn pile of instant, microwave popcorn. I could see the popcorn strewn over almost every corner of the room, and to top it off, there was a whole slab of butter that Kanata had somehow managed to divvy up and stick on the walls.

My voice took on a chilling tone, dripping with sarcasm. "And Kanata-sama, may I just ask what the hell have you done this time around?"

Even the boneheaded Kanata could detect a tinge of danger in my low, menacing voice. "Eh...er... I couldn't get to sleep, and there was an anime that I thought I could watch to while away the time... so I decided to make popcorn to go with it! Ah.... hahaha...."

Her laughter trailed away to a terrified squeak as I advanced upon her, grabbing the nearest weapon which I could find. A rolling pin, as it turned out. I smacked the rolling pin in my hand as I smiled. "Kanata, haven't we talked about this? You are NOT ALLOWED to use the kitchen when there's nobody here to SUPERVISE YOU!"

I smiled evilly, licking my lips. If she was going to make my day hell, I might as well give her a present or two to show my gratitude. Preferably a couple of bumps and bruises, that would probably do the trick.

"MEN!" *SMACK* "Oww!"

The usage of the term Men refers to the kendo strike, not males.

Having thoroughly chewed Kanata out and set her to work cleaning up her mess, I began my daily ritual of waking all my friends up. It was already five by the time I finished with Kanata. I figured that did not leave me any more time for sleep, so I wearily trudged up the staircase and banged on Mikoto's door, which was the closest. Beneath the door, I could see a crack of light streaming through, which meant that Mikoto was already awake.

At least that saved me from having to come up with all sorts of ingeniously ridiculous ways to wake her up. I seem to recall having to drench her in ice-cold water just to wake her up a couple of years ago. And setting up a trap that would make Mikoto's bed tip her into a basin of cold water.

I banged on her door. "Mikoto, if you have your figurine collection out you'd better hide 'em somewhere safe right now, 'cause I'm going to throw the whole lot out if you're not down to breakfast in 10 minutes!"

"Eep!" My guess was probably spot on. Mikoto had a weakness for collecting figurines, but she always seemed to be under the illusion that no one was ever going to find out. In reality, half the school knew about it during our middle school years, especially because Mikoto was prone to being shifty and suspicious whenever people questioned her on the matter. Suspiciously specific denials were her forte, and I was amazed at her consistent ability to reinforce the very same idea she was trying to disabuse people of.

I moved on to Mana's room, knocked on the door, and got a muffled groan in response. Her lights weren't on. Being an unusually active girl, Mana always slept heavily, and her being late for anything early in the morning was a common occurrence. It's surprising that she allows herself to do that, since her father was a military officer and, by extension, despised tardiness of any sort. I'd always had a mental image of the elder Misaka banging rubbish bin lids together and shouting at Mana if she refused to get up.

"Time to get up, Mana, breakfast will be done in a while." Well, at least Mana was more reliable than most of the others in terms of punctuality. I could count on her this time, I guess.

Having said that, I moved on to the final member of our group, Miiko. I knocked a couple of times on her door. "Miiko? You in there?" After a few tries I gave up. It was more than likely that Miiko was out jogging or something, since she had developed the habit of getting up early to get some exercise in every day. She must have slipped out when I was engaged in punishing Kanata. Jogging, swimming, playing football... you name it, Miiko's done it. Though how she manages to be so fit and motivated for all this still mystifies me. Miiko occasionally ropes all of us in for her early morning exercises, though you can imagine how that turned out. Kanata usually can't be bothered to show at all, while Mikoto and Mana only go along with it to humour her. I'm all for it though.

Well, that's done and dusted. As I passed by Mikoto's room again, I couldn't resist shouting, "Mikoto, I was serious about chucking your things away, you know?"

"Damn you, Akira, I'm going to get you back for this someday!"

I chuckled lightly as I headed back downstairs.

I'm feeling pretty pissed off at the moment. Having been awoken by someone causing an almighty fuss downstairs is not exactly my favourite way to start the day. Still, I had only just trotted out my entire collection and was lovingly polishing them when Akira dropped that bombshell on me.

She even managed to get a parting shot in as I was carefully stowing the last of my collection in the special glass cabinet I bought for them. A rare happening, since Akira was usually on the losing side of these little spats we had from time to time. Of course, I knew that she wasn't really serious about her threat, but I still felt compelled to yell after her for good measure after she had gone downstairs to prepare breakfast.

"That Akira.... she's a serious pain in the neck. Nothing for it but to go down for breakfast ASAP."

Akira's cooking isn't too shabby; she just has a ways to go before she matches up to Miiko's high standards.

I shivered. Okay, I take that back - Akira's only the most lethal chef in our household, and probably on the whole Tomia Hara carrier too. Akira's voluntarily taken over the cooking duty for a week to repay Miiko for teaching her how to cook; I'm actually contemplating skipping breakfast today to avoid getting food poisoning. My mind was working furiously, thinking about the possibly hideous offerings Akira might serve up. Miiko had confided in me just yesterday. Even though she had coached Akira intensively, Akira wasn't anywhere near being able to cook something edible. I didn't want to die by her cooking on the first day of school, thank you very much!

And then, as I stared at the dining table -

"Erm, Akira... I hate to ask, but why is there only cup ramen for breakfast today?"

At my question, Akira shot a glare at Kanata, who was apparently covered in rich yellow butter. There was some popcorn stuck on her PJs as well. Kanata only looked at Akira with her puppy dog eyes - a ruse she always used to get sympathy whenever she messed up, which was a damned sight too often.

"Okay, let me guess... Kanata tried to make popcorn, and somehow contrived to smash the kitchen up. Akira, you tried to give her a knock with your shinai and spent way too much time indulging in punishing Kanata that you had no time left to make breakfast today. Right?"

Akira grinned sheepishly. "Yeah, almost all of it... just the shinai part. I actually used a rolling pin to knock her around."

I could only sigh. Well, at least there was a silver lining in all this - I got my favourite shoyu ramen, and the household didn't have to choke their way through Akira's cooking.

"Can't be helped, I guess. Let's eat quickly; we can't be late for our first day at school! Itadakimasu!"

Xing wrote:"That'd probably be a good idea." Kaede said.

Yuki waved as Kaede left.
"I wonder what that's all about?" She turned to Ren. "Well then if your up to sorting through all this..." She paused and looked around, not wanting to say 'junk'. "...All this stuff. Than we would all greatly appreciate it." Yuki tilted her head and smiled.
"Right then. Please tell my homeroom teacher what's going on." She bowed and then turned towards Akira, a semi evil grin displayed on her face. "Hey Akira." The dark haired girl looked up from whatever it was she was doing.
"Come over here." Ren said signaling with her hand. A very nervous expression crossed her face. This caused Yuki to laugh.
"Well then I'll leave things to you." She patted Ren on the shoulder and then turned to Shun. "Alright Shun lets go."
"Right." The red head replied.
"Oh wait." Yuki rushed over to the Firefly.
"Commander?" Shun was puzzled. Yuki was already half way up and about to climb into the tank.
"We have to park this thing out front. Climb into the commanders seat and tell me when I'm about to crash into something." With that Yuki dropped into the drivers seat. Shun shrugged and climbed into the tank. Yuki hit the ignition switch, set the gear, and then pushed forwards on the controls. Within only a minute they had cleared the hanger, turned, and parked in such a way that resembled many museum entrances. The two climbed out of the tank and headed to Homeroom while Ren and Akira took inventory on what tanks were working and which ones weren't.

"Really? So long as you want me to." Kaede replied to the school chairman as they walked to the auditorium together.
"Who else would be better to be on stage than a veteran commander of the club?" he said.
"It'd be my honor sir." Kaede said with a slight bow. They both entered the auditorium and headed up to the stage, Kaede to a seat in a chair off to the side while the chairman organized his speech notes on the podium. After about 5 minutes the school loud speaker again crackled to life.
"Would all students please report to the auditorium for the opening ceremony. Repeat all students are to report to the school auditorium. Thank you." Slowly and steadily the classes began to file in and take their seats near one another throughout the audience. The bright lights on the stage combined with the dimmer lights in the crowd prevented her from making out any of their faces but she could definitely see the people. Then the nerves hit her, she wasn't really used to being up in front of a crowd like this, she was sure those that were looking could see her slight nervous blush.

Ulrika shushed the other four girls as someone began to speak through the intercom, "Would all students please report to the auditorium for the opening ceremony. Repeat all students are to report to the school auditorium. Thank you".
"Wonder what they'll talk about this year?" Kaya wondered.
"Probably going to review what the semester is going to go like. Or supposed to go like.." Danielle replied and the girls walked out of the class and followed the other students to the auditorium. The girls all found seats together and gently pushed and nudged each other playfully. Then the lights began to dim and a student took the stage, the girls quietted and listened, their eyes on the student who seemed to be blushing.
"Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum."
"Wewf Forever, Forever Wewf."

Hikaru, Ayumi, and Yuri followed the rest of their class to the auditorium and found three seats next to each other, near the front. Hikaru was fidgeting.

"Is it over yet?" she whispered. Yuri shook her head.

"It hasn't even started," she said. Hikaru frowned.

"But I hate all this formal crap..." Ayumi shushed both of them as the lights dimmed and a lone student took the stage...

Meanwhile, at the back of the room, Ritsuko stood with other members of the disciplinary committee.

The chess club had rejoined after their brunch, except for Molly who was hidden among the packed seats because she decided to go and take care of something aside from everyone else. Elena waited expectantly while looking at the speaker. Tomiko was looking very bored with her hand on her chin. Ashley seemed to be the only one genuinely excited of the three, as she beamed and sat up straight while doing her hardest not to look too excited about the new year. Molly sat calmly amongst the other students and waited patiently.

Character Development

"Miiko, the ball's all yours!"

I glanced up to see the ball drifting through the air towards me. Racing towards it, I brought the ball down with my boot and controlled it. It was already six in the morning, pretty late by my usual standards, and we were playing golden goal since it'd take up too much time and leave me late for school if we played the regulation 90 minutes. Couldn't say the same about my team members though - they always seemed to be playing after I left despite the fact that they also had school to contend with.

I surveyed the field before me, and saw Satoshi, our striker, lurking right behind an opposition defender in the penalty area. If he made it through the blockade... we would most likely be able to end the game. I had to get the ball to him.

"Take a shot!" I yelled as I chipped the ball over the defence towards him. Satoshi didn't even try to control the ball. He flung himself at the ball and slammed it right into goal with a crashing header.

"Nice one, Miiko-nee!" Satoshi shouted as he wheeled towards me.

I smiled as I high fived him. Football was among my favourite sports, and I'd made it a habit of mine to join in the friendly neighbourhood scrimmage at least once a week. Other times, the locals would invite me to play baseball, and I always ended up having to scramble after those grounders that seemed to magically swerve and weave out of my grasp.

"it's getting pretty late, I have to go home and get ready for school. Catch you later."

After exchanging bows with the opposition, I left the ground and headed home. The field was quite far away from our rented house, and it took me the best part of 15 minutes to get home.

"I'm home! What's for breakfast?" I shouted to the girls as I opened the back door with my key.

"Slurp... AH! Our resident chef is back!" "Woah! S-stay away from me, you idiot!" Kanata, who had been loudly slurping cup ramen, leapt up and tackled me full in the stomach. Losing my balance due to her headlong charge, I fell backwards and landed stretched out on the floor, with Kanata sprawled over me. "Get off me, Kanata!"

"Ehh? I just wanted you to prepare bento for us today~!" Kanata shot a sidelong glance at Akira, who kept her nose in her cup ramen and didn't say anything." I sighed. "Mikoto, tell me what's been going on in our crazy household today, will you?"

Mikoto downed the last of her cup ramen and began wiping her mouth with a piece of tissue paper. "The usual, I guess. Kanata did a hatchet job on some of our microwave popcorn, Akira swooped in to save the day and indulge her sadism, and we ended up having nothing prepared for breakfast since Akira was too caught up with Kanata." She waved another cup ramen at me. "This okay with you? If not, all that's left is some cold yakisoba bread from yesterday's lunch."

I mentally face palmed. In a way, we all had Kanata to thank because she'd just saved us all from a possible case of diarrhoea. I must remember to buy her a crepe or a sundae after this. Despite my best efforts in both trying to coach Akira and dissuade her from ever going near the kitchen for the sake of the household's well-being, Akira had insisted on taking up the week's cooking duty, supposedly to repay me for helping her out. I could think of better ways for her to show her gratitude though... but Akira's a headstrong one. Sometimes I think she developed her hard head from getting hit on the head in kendo.

"Okay, okay, I'll make the bento, so get off me already! We'll all be late if you keep this up! Now budge!"

I tipped Kanata off me and set about preparing bento with what we had left in the refrigerator.

"We cleaned out the meat doing teppanyaki yesterday. Vege bento okay with y'all?"

"Ehh!!!"

"Ouchies... That bashing hurt, Akira!"

Akira sniggered. "It's your own damn fault for cooking up such a shambles and forcing me to deal with it. Though frankly, I'm past caring..."

"Meanie."

"I don't get it! Why would sticking the popcorn into the microwave make it blow up? This is crazy!"

Akira balled her fists and clenched her teeth. Uwah, I've really riled her up this time! "You know that you shouldn't open the microwave door before it's done right? And I seem to recall that the settings were way off....for POPCORN, that is..."

Akira got up from her chair and started to advance upon me again. Getting another thrashing from her wasn't high on my list of priorities, so I grabbed my cup ramen and bailed out. "See ya later, Akira! Bye b-.. EH?"

I tripped over something! Cartwheeling wildly to keep my balance, I ended up getting a handful of Miiko's apron and pulled her down with me... again! Luckily she was only holding the leftover yakisoba bread from yesterday, so we didn't suffer much damage except for a faceful of yakisoba and shoyu cup ramen. That and falling smack on the floor for the second time in 5 minutes. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Mikoto grinning and giving Akira the thumbs up while she coiled up a thread of some sort.

"Ita... sorry, Miiko!" Leaving Miiko wordlessly dusting herself off, I turned to put my tongue out at Mikoto and Akira before scooting upstairs to get ready for school.

Plot

Having completed our preparations, the four of us trooped off to school. I was looking forward to starting my school life at Tomio Hara. It has a respectable reputation, not to mention an excellent Sensha-do programme.

I shook my head. Anyone would be fired up to be enrolling in a new school! It wasn't just me!

"Hmm... I wonder if Tomio Hara still maintains the Sensha-do elective? I heard that they had to temporarily disband the team since the school ran into some financial trouble, not to mention a lack of interest in the programme. That was a few years back, wasn't it?" Miiko piped up.

I heaved a sigh. That was what I was worried about. Anyone who was familiar with the Tomio Hara carrier knew that the school constantly faced financial difficulties, and always relied on the help of private donations to keep the school afloat. I'd heard from the local gossip mongers that the school even had to resort to selling off their tank parts just to keep their heads above water.

I put on a strained laugh and said, "Let's just hope that Sensha-do will get reinstated this academic year! I'm looking forward to join in if Sensha-do is offered... it seems to be interesting, at least."

"Will it really help us become more ladylike?" That was Kanata.

"No idea, but we'll have to try it to get a feel for it!"

As we walked into the school grounds, I heard a broadcast blaring through the speakers that the school had installed near the school gates. The announcer said in a bored tone : "Would all students please report to the auditorium for the opening ceremony. Repeat, all students are to report to the school auditorium. Thank you."

"Ah... we should get over there right now." Shouting to the rest of the crew, I fished out a map of the school from my pocket and began working out the direction in which we should go. "Looks like the auditorium is over here... shall we go, then?"

As I dragged the gang towards our destination, a nagging thought popped up in my mind.

"Hmm....? Aren't we forgetting someone here?"

A sliver tandem bicycle rolled gently to stop beside the racks beside the main entrance and it two tiny riders dismounted with practiced synchronization. One produced a bike lock which the other took and used to clip in the bike. They shared a nod, apparently satisfied, and headed into the building side by side. As they walked one of them, who differed from the other only in the pair of headphones slung around her neck, reached into her satchel and retrieved a map of the complex.

“So where is our first port of call Sister Dearest?”
“Left wing auditorium for welcoming and orientation, then onto homeroom on the floor above.”
“Splendid all planed out then. So tell me what do you think of the place so far?”
“The building is nice, the uniforms are acceptable, and club support is good yet unexciting with the closure of the Shensha-do program. Yourself?”
“My thoughts were much the same.”
“They often are.”

They allowed themselves a short giggling session which was interrupted by an announcement that they were indeed to report to the auditorium. They quickened their pace and made good time to get a seat near the front for the ceremony.

“The girl onstage appears nervous.”
“A first timer to public speaking perhaps?”
“I hope she handles herself well; it’s very frustrating to listen to someone who’s not confident.”
“Indeed, maybe she has something special to say.”
Every day until you like it.

Yuki had managed to get permission for her and her team to skip the Opening Ceremony in order to prepare the Tankery "Club" for afterwards orientation. None the less after homeroom she had sent Shun on to help Ren and Akira, then she had gone onto the opening ceremony. She stood in the back of the Auditorium leaning against the wall.
"So when did you forget about me." A familiar voice caused Yuki to jump a foot in the air. She looked at Yew who was standing next to her.
"Whe....when did you get there?" Yuki was breathing heavily and clutching her chest.
"Just now." The girl replied.
"Oh. Well your like a ghost so I didn't see you there." Yuki straightened up regaining her composure.
"Just because I'm a little more pail than other people doesn't mean you have to make fun of me." Yew pouted folding her arms. "I'm not some albino."
"That is mean to Albinos." Yuki teased. Yew shot her an evil glance she stopped.
"So. What did you mean by forget you?" Yuki leaned back against the wall arms folded.
"You took off with Shun and completely forgot I even existed. Before going you spoke to Ren and Akira, Shun as well, but not me." Yew's tone seemed to hold no emotion.
"Sorry. I just forgot." Yuki was silent for a minute. "I didn't see you in homeroom, so what were you up too?"
"Making pamphlets." Yew replied.
"Pamphlets? For what."
"Orientation. You know when everyone has to go check out the different clubs to gain a better idea as to what club they may want to join."
"Oh...These wouldn't happen to be the types of pamphlets that contain pictures of Tigers, twenty tank teams, and generally false information about everything?" Yuki's voice carried a worried tone with it. Yew looked up at the ceiling to avoid Yuki's gaze.
"Maayybee." The answer was drawn out in a joking manner to obviously imply 'yes' as the answer. Yuki smiled.
"Yew you never fail to impress me." She said patting her friend on the shoulder. Yew cocked her head to the side, a questioning look on her face.
"Why the double 'you'? One 'you' would have been fine. You could have just said, 'you never fail to impress me'." Yuki frowned disapprovingly at this remark. Yew responded with a shit eating grin. Yuki couldn't help but chuckle. She turned back to the stage. They both stared at it for a moment.
"Fuck this lets get outta hear." Yuki raised turned towards the door.
"Hell yeah. I already know what they'r going to say." Yew replied instantly. The two left the auditorium and headed for the tankery garage.

Aimi, Hiroko, and Hoshi all had taken a seat about a fourth of the way back on the right side. As they looked up and saw Kaede on stage Hiroko's curiosity was piqued. "What's she doing up on stage?" "No idea." Aimi replied. "I wouldn't think she'd be on stage at the opening ceremony for anything bad though right?"
"Well it seems that for the most part everyone is here." the School Chairman began. As he did the room was quieted by a series of "Shhhes" from the audience, sounding slightly like someone was squeezing the nozzle of an air compressor. "I would like to welcome all of you back to Tomio Hara University High School for the start of another school year. And for those of you here for the first time allow me to welcome you on behalf of the school. I hope you recieve a warm welcome and enjoy your first year with us. First thing I would like to do is announce something that very well may help you enjoy said year further. However I would like to call one of your fellow students, third year Ms. Kaede Moto, up to give the announcement." When she heard her name Kaede snapped out of her slight nervous daze and looked at the chairman. He was turned to face her and made a slight wave to usher her to the podium. Just a bit of ambiance. She stood up from her chair and gave a bow before walking up to the podium. "Umm..." her first word was met with a slight bit of feedback from the speakers. Off to a great start aren't you, forget it move on. She thought to herself. "I'm not too used to speaking in front of large crowds, unlike the chairman here, but as he said I have an announcement to make. As I'm sure you all know our school's Sensha-Do program has been what could be called sub-par lately, last year it could very well be called terrible considering it shrunk to the size that some even forgot it was still around. The number of participants dropped and in turn the number of tanks did as well. It had gone from a respectable program to a laughing stock. But after a petition from students, and the insistence of the chairman, I am proud to announce that the Sensha-Do team will be given a fresh start and additional funding to get itself running. Our school's team used to be a fierce competitor at the national level, and with this I hope to see it be one again. We will be able to purchase new tanks and perhaps repair some we still have. However that won't mean much without girls to operate them. We only have enough people for two teams so far so we are far from even standing a chance against the competition. I want to see us reclaim the respect we have lost. We suffered a terrible loss to the Kuromorimine School the year before the club began to decline, but if enough girls join the club I know that we can rise up and return the loss that Kuromorimine gave to us. Any of you who are willing to help me do it, I expect to see you soon. We will have sign ups later today during the club exhibition hours outside by the vehicle depot so make sure you are there if you are interested. Thank you." When she had finished the audience gave an excited round of applause, it seems more of them would like to see Sensha-Do grow than she thought. She stepped to the side of the podium and with her hands at her side gave a low bow to the crowd, and walked off stage to take her seat. The rest of the school chairman's speech continued like any other welcome speech, much like the ones he had given in previous years.

The feelings ranged between Kaya, Danielle, Eva, Ulrika and Kaz. But Ulrika was the most enthused. She looked at the other four girls and whispered. "We're joining."
The girls all blinked and turned to her and in sync said, "What?"
"We'll talk more after the ceremony." Ulrika replied.
Minutes passed and eventually Kaya fell asleep on Kaz, who in turn played with Kaya's hair while she slept. As the ceremony ended Kaz shook Kaya gently. "Hey, wake up." She whispered quietly trying to wake her up and Kaya slowly woke.
"Hm..?" She said still half asleep.
"It's time to wake up." Kaz replied softly.
Kaya sighed and stood up with the other girls and they walked out of the auditorium. They gathered in a small area where they could view the vehicle depot.
"I think we should join the Tensha-do team." Ulrika said.
"Why Rika?" Kaya asked curiously.
"Because, I think it would give us a good activity to do together. Not to mention it would just be plain awesome." Ulrika replied.
"I'm in!" Kaz said.
"Me too!" Danielle agreed.
"Me three!" Added Evelyn.
"Well, you guys would need me so okay." Kaya said.
"Then it's settled. We'll all join the Tensha-do team." Ulrika said and the others agreed. Ulrika looked over to the tanks sitting in front of the garage and looked to see if anybody was around that she could talk to.
