The Usurper and the King

IC

Relaunch

In the twentieth year in the reign of his majesty; Harold Goldwyn, the Third of his name, King of Mercedium, Count of the Northern Lands, Heir of the Sorobii, and Protector of the Realm, the third moon of that year found much displeasure in his majesty’s court. The King’s brother Jon, Count of the Royal Green Pastures, was found to be plotting against his majesty and upon his discovery had fled to the north. He wintered amongst the men of the North, riling their wicked masses into a frenzied state of war against the King. For Jon was a man filled with jealousy of his older brother’s crown and had lived enraged in envy ever since his father; the dearly departed Harold the Good King, had left his offices and his royal seal to his rightful heir. But it was not the wisdom of the gods or legality of blood that Jon recognized. The riches of silver and gold, the fires of war, the pleasures of the flesh, these vices were what he craved, and it was the crown on top of Harold’s head that Jon obsessed; he would have sold the souls of a thousand men to hold it within his grasp.

The wicked Jon had taken arms against his elder brother before, but he and his allies had been broken by the King with the gods at his back at every past occasion. This year however, the winter had been colder than living memory could recall. Jon had gained an unlikely ally from across the Great Sea, King Scabbard Jorge, Lord of the Jults; a warlord of the mountain kingdom, a man larger than all in Mercedium; he had a great horde at his command, a man to whom Jon sold the treasures of his rightful King’s lands. As Harold had made plans for war with Jon when winter had lifted, Scabbard had made plans with the traitorous Jon and had laid claim to Harold’s crown through a distant marriage between that of his uncle Hagar of Sven to that of the Kings half-aunt Padilla, a claim made of words and words alone.

It was King Scabbard himself that would lead the Jultian horde across the Great Sea into the open arms of Jon the Traitor; the gods curse him, and were augmented by the hordes of Northern Men he could muster. Upon hearing word of this, Harold became enraged with his brother; naming his life forfeit, renouncing his claim on the crown and confiscated all his titles and lands, all these which he had graciously bestowed upon him in the hopes of ending the feud between them, now forever a war for blood. The Royal Army was mustered as the north became enflamed by Men of the North harrying the land as they moved south whilst the Jultian ships raided along the coast. The Steward of the North held the Men of the North for as long as was manly possible until the Jults arrived in force at Peacock Bay.

This is a medieval rp, as the little intro states; the Kingdom of Mercedium is currently in a state war. King Harold is currently being challenged by his brother Jon in an attempt to usurp the throne. The Kingdom is at war with the barbarous Northern Men and an invasion from the Kingdom of Jultland. The King of Jultland, Scabbard Scorge, supports Jon in his attempt of usurpation in the hopes of expanding the Jultian Kingdom into a vast Empire and plans on placing Jon upon the Silver Throne as his vassal.

For this rp there are a number of rules:
1) This is a medieval rp, which means medieval tech no later than 14th century.
2) I'm the OP; so if you have questions you can ask me OOC or TG me.
3) No magic; the reason is it can get out of hand with what is or isn't possible.
4) No godmodding.
5) No flaming, bickering, arguing in any manner that doesn't follow NS etiquette.
6) Realistic rping, ex. Travel is limited due to there being only horses for transportation, cannot instantaneously mobilize 10,000 men-at-arms, etc.
7) No one-liners or small paragraph posts. Realism requires much more than simple answers, give your characters thoughts and personalities seeing as there will be political intrigue involved.
8 ) Dedicated rper's that will post at least once a day or two. Try and be available whenever humanly possible at least once a day.
9) Army Restrictions: Lord/Count = 10 - 40,000 men
Baron = 10 - 30, 000 men
Knight = 100 - 1000 men (pending their wealth and prestige)
Members of the Royal Guardsman and the King's Council are incapable amassing such forces since their titles are in name-only, they do not possess lands in accordance with their noble rank.

I'm currently open to about five or six Great Houses to rule over counties across the Kingdom.

County of Elmswood
-Elmswood is the Eastern most portion of the Kingdom, it's seat of power is Broddock and is the home of the Crown. The county is known for its forests in the north and the Seven Rivers that borders its south-south-west. The county is also known for its fine wines, the royal hunting grounds, the royal tourney grounds, it holds the majority of the Kingdom's guilds, and is known for breeding fine horses. It is also one of the most populated portions of the entire Kingdom. The port of Redwood is known to hold the large Royal Fleet.
The terrain of the county is a mixture of rolling hills, open fields and forested landscapes. Winter usually is hardly an issue due to light snowfalls when compared to the north.

County of the Royal Green Pastures
-The Royal Green Pastures take up a large portion of the middle of the kingdom surrounded by all other counties, the seat of power for this county is Summerfall. This county is known widely for its farmland and is the breadbasket for the Kingdom, due to this, it is among the most important counties of the Kingdom. The county is also known for its horse breeding and vast orchards of apples.
The terrain is a mixture of open fertile farmland, a few rolling hills, and greatly vegetated by orchards. The Pastures gets a variety of weather due to its vast size, winters can be harsh or can be very mild depending where you're situated and the severity of the winter.

County of New Hope
-New Hope is the southern most county of the Kingdom, it's seat of power is Mercedius' Landing; the landing place of the first King Mercedius who united the land under the First Kingdom. The county is made up largely of coastal regions populated nearer the coast than further inland. Due to this reality, the County is known for fishing and trading across the Warm Channel with the continent of Sorbonne. The county makes its wealth by trading exotic goods to the rest of the kingdom such as silk and tropical fruits.
The terrain of New Hope is dominated by the coast, the Blood Cliffs in the west being the most famous stretch along the entire southern coast. The east is dominated by the Sea Salt Lands, a large marsh that makes up the majority of the county's western lands. Winter hardly ever touches this region due to it being so far south.

County of Longshanks
The county of Longshanks is in the western-most region of the Kingdom, it's seat of power is Jagged Hill. The county of Longshanks borders the lands of Nostalgias; a vassal land that has yet to be subjugated by the King's of Mercedium. The county is dominated in the west by the Red Hills and is known for being the Kingdoms western frontier, as well as the Royal Mint from its vast gold mines.
The terrain is dominated by hills and mountains and is considered a hard land to live in. Due to its mountainous nature the land isn't very fertile generally and isn't suitable for horse breeding. Winter is generally either very mild or very harsh due to the mountains.

County of Alms
The county of Alms dominates the north of the Kingdom and is known for silver mining, as well as being the second most populated region next to Elmswood. It's seat of power is Northwood. The county is known for its mountains in the east along the coast and its vast forests in the west, as well as for its vast mines which provide the Kingdom with precious metals.
The terrain is a mixture of forests and vast rolling hills and is known to be covered in the blanket of winter for five months of the year.

County of North
The northernmost county of the entire Kingdom, it's seat of power is Oakenhall. Due to its proximity to the hordes of Northern Men and the harsh winters, this county is one of the least populated of them all. Despite its remote nature, the land is known for its good game lands and has good farming land.
The terrain is dominated by forests due to its proximity to the Northern Forest but has some stretches of open land. The temperature is generally cold for a large portion of the year and winter is known to dominate five or six months of the year.

The Isles of Cod
This is a large island surrounded by a cluster of smaller islands that stands at the mouth of the Mud River and is the least populated of all the Kingdom. It's seat of power is Ironholm. The Isles of Cod is known for fishing and trade, as well as housing a fairly sizeable fleet next to that of the Royal Fleet. The Isles is known for sheep and wool but otherwise is a lesser trading port next to Mercedius' Landing and Redwood. Despite its unappealing appearance the Isles is strategically important due to its commanding hold upon the Mud River which leads to Redwood.

The traitor Jon will have had his position as Count of the Royal Green Pastures confiscated by the crown, anyone who applies to become the successor to this prestigious position will get it.

Lord, Count: Head of Great House and rules a county. Owes fealty to the King.
Earl, Baron: Head of lesser House and is sworn to a Great House. Earls hold more lands and wealth that Barons and command greater amounts of military levies. A Baron may only hold a few castles whilst an Earl may hold several.
Knight: sworn, hedge, owe loyalty to a lesser house and only own manors or motte-bailey keeps.

Stewards: There are four stewards; North, South, East, and West. These men administer the Kingdom in the name of the King in each region of the Kingdom. These positions are held by Counts/Lords, usually of Great Houses, but sometimes one of the Court's officials and all are appointed by the King himself.

The King’s Council:
-The King’s Man: the King's Chancellor; he speaks on behalf of the King, performs the King's Justice, acts as his advisor when the King is on the Silver Throne. Similar to the King's Hand in ASOFAI.

-Lord Commander of the Royal Watch: the commander of the forces watching the King's Castle in Broddock. Enforces the King's Justice in the city of Broddock.

-Lord Commander of the King’s Guardsmen: Commander of the King's personal guard; the King's Guardsmen. Answers only to the King.

-Master of the Whispers: Personal spymaster of the King whose duty is to ensure the loyalty of the king's subjects and the stability of the realm.

-Master of the Royal Coin: controls the King's Royal Purse, controls the Royal Mint, enacts taxes, and keeps record of the King's expenses.

-Grand Pontiff: Head of the Church worshipping the new gods in the south.

-High Master of Broddock: A Grand Master of the Order of Francis chosen by majority vote by the Grand Masters of that Order to become royal physician and master of the Royal Rookery (Ravens). Always knowledgeable in the sciences, medicines, and history. May also ask as advisor to the King.

The King's Guardsmen: A force of nine Knights who swear life-long oaths to defend the King to their last breath, they renounce their claim on all titles and lands, they may bear no children in their service and cannot marry.

The Order of Francis is a religious Order with the mission of searching for the knowledge and learning the secrets of the world. Brothers of the Order immerse themselves in study in areas such as religion, law, astronomy, botany, chemistry, arithmetic, reading, writing, record keeping, book keeping, teaching, etc. The Order of Francis normally pledge the best of their brothers to the service of lords across the Kingdom. The Council of Grand Masters vote by majority for a replacement amongst their own ranks to be High Master of Broddock in the service of the King.

There are two religions in the Kingdom of Mercedium:
The Old Gods: these are numerous and without name. These were prominent in the time of the First Kingdom but have died out in the south after the New Gods were embraced by the House of Goldwyn during the reign of Edvard the Pious. There is no organized worship of the Old Gods, merely making an oath in their name and praying to them is the common addressing of the Old Gods. They are manly worshiped in the North.
The New Gods: these Gods are worshiped in dioceses across the Kingdom. Animal sacrifices and specific prayers spoken to individual gods are common in the south. Oaths are generally made to a specific god based upon the nature of the oath but a general usage of 'the New Gods' will suffice. (I'm open to names if anyone wishes to take up the role of Grand Pontiff.)

Elk/Stag: A golden coin, the greatest buying power in all the Kingdom. Used mainly by the nobles and the wealthiest of merchants.
Eagle/Hawk Eye: A Silver coin, it takes a couple silvers to equal that of a Elk. More commonly used to pay less-important officials and low-priced sellswords.
Copper: Most prevalent coin in existence. Most common born men carry but a few of these in their pockets and its spending power is substantially smaller that that of an Elk or a Eagle. Used as simple change by the wealthy nobility, these are more common in the hands of simple peasants and bankers on the streets of Mercedius' cities.

The Kingdom of Jultland
The Kingdom of Jultland lies to the north-east across the Great Sea. It is a world renown Kingdom; infamous for its raiding navy and dreaded warriors. Over the centuries they've been known to raid along the coast and strike merchant ships for plunder. The King of Jultland, Scabbard Scorge, is a young warlord and is ambitious to expand his Kingdom into a vast Empire; his sights placed upon Mercedium due to the feud between Jon and Harold weakening the stability of the Kingdom.

Jon Goldwyn
He is the King's younger brother and his rightful heir to the throne if no son is born. His quarrel's with his elder brother have turned to rebellion in the past; battles were fought between him and Harold's generals, usually ending in Harold's victory. Other times, mediation and peace would win the day. However, Jon's desperation in riling up the Northern Men and making an alliance with the Jultian King has enraged the King to the point of putting his brother's head on a pike. Jon is a crafty man with a mind for plots.

The Northern Men
These are tribes of northern men living beyond the lands of Mercedium in the north. Not normally united, they usually migrate south to raid the north and are beaten back by northern troops. Though brave, they are undisciplined and when amassed in large numbers they are incapable of performing tactics of war.

The Western Prince
Prince Remus Gort of Nostalgias; he rules the western most portion directly bordering the County of Longshanks. Though technically a vassal of the King's of Mercedium since King Harold the Sword King, he is an unpredictable man and mysterious due to his silence involving affairs to the east of his lands. Skirmishes do occur along the borderlands but otherwise war hasn't been seen in the region for over a generation. Many in Mercedium still wish to subjugate Prince Gort at the point of a blade.

Count Roland of Agricola
Across the Warm Channel in the south lies Agricola, a county that was once apart of the First Kingdom before its collapse. Count Roland is a relatively young ambitious man. During the rule of Harold II, he was promised the throne of Mercedium upon the death of Harold. However, Harold began siring son's and when Harold III arose to the throne, the contract was name null-and-void due to Harold's right of succession due to his birth. Roland has been enraged by this maneuver for sometime and awaits the day to make his claim upon the Silver Throne.

Name of House: House Goldwyn

House Banner: The Three Pointed Golden Elk upon a field of Green

House Description:
Their words are Unconquered, Faithful, Honor. House Goldwyn has ruled over the Kingdom of Mercedium for over three centuries since the founding of the Second Kingdom under Broddock the Great. The current King, Harold III, is an aged man and has begun withdrawing from the affairs of court, preferring to partake in the past times of hunting as well as all other sports and past-time activities that keep him from the Silver Throne. Harold wasn't first in line to be King and it wasn't till his brother Luthor died about five years before his father, Harold the Good King, finally died and left his seal to his eldest living son Harold. In the absence of his majesty, the royal court is run by the Jultian born, Lord Odon Ryygar, the King's Man, however he is pulled back to the throne on occasions that require his presence and when matters of great concern arise in his Kingdom. The King is desperate for a son and fears that he will die without an heir due to his paranoia of all nobles and officials who surround him, especially with his younger brother Jon feuding with him openly and even going to war with him on a number of occasions. As such a paranoid man, he's begun to surround himself with members of his wife's maiden House of Whyte, seeing them as the most trustworthy banner house sworn to his House.

Requested Court/Titles and recipient (ex. Steward of the North or Lord Commander of the Royal Guardsman):
King’s Man, Odon Ryygar

Other info: Since Odon Ryygar is not a member of House Goldwyn nor I have I mentioned his personality before, I’ll do so here. Odon is a tall man with long fair golden hair that flows like waves from his brow to the top of his shoulders. He has ocean blue eyes and a large pointy nose upon a long face of a Jultian; he is fair skinned but as hard and beaten as a rock upon the shoal and wore his face clean. He is a man of one and forty years with the warrior talents of equal to that of any man but had the misfortune of being born to a common Jultian family. To both Mercedian and Jultian alike, he was but a common baseborn man. He sold his warrior talents as a sellsword and travelled to many lands in the service of various foreign lords. He is a soldier and a sailor like his Jultian kin. He eventually found his way into the court of King Harold the Good King and was a bodyguard for the old King, he eventually found favour to Harold III and became one of Harold greatest generals during the first of the various battles Jon would fight against his brother. He earned his position of great power; now being the King’s justice and trusted man of action when war was needed, he had come a long way from being the simple bodyguard being paid forty silvers for the continued service of a King.

Past Rp experience (three min. required unless spoken to me otherwise):
I’ve had several rp’s in the past, two relating to the Cold War and three relating to Game of Thrones in one manner or another.

Name of House: House Whyte:

House Banner: The Golden Lion upon a Crimson Field

Description of House:
The House of Whyte is an ancient family that has ties to that date back as far as the Great Crossing under Mercedius and the First Kingdom. Over the centuries, the House of Whyte has owed its survival to remaining loyal to the King’s of the East during the breakup of the First Kingdom. Whyte would be rewarded for their loyalties by being made Count of the Royal Green Pastures and made Stewards of the East. However, in recent memory, the House of Whyte was subject to banishment and exile by order of King Harold I, the man that became to be known in his time as the Sword King; a warlord king with suspicions of conspiracies all around him. The patriarch of the House, Petur; Baron Jermyn’s grandfather, was accused of plotting to usurp the throne and was executed as a traitor. The House of Whyte fled the realm into the south across the Warm Channel. After the death of the Sword King, King Harold II, the Good King, pardoned his father’s Whyte enemies and allowed them to return to Mercedium. Jermyn and his uncle returned to Mercedium to be given a small holdfast to rule, the Good King was suspicious of Whyte vengeance and dared not give them any more lands to their name. Over the years, Whyte has grown in power through marriages into the banner houses of House Goldwyn and through entrenching themselves into the court of Harold III.

Lord of the House (Description): Jermyn Whyte. He is three in fifty years old, an aged but formidable looking man; he stands at an average height with an average build. He wears a pointed white beard upon his chin and wears short snow white hair that has begun to recede atop his head. He has silver eyes and a pointed nose. He is a cunning man with a ruthless streak with the intent to repay the vengeance upon his house at the hands of the House of Goldwyn. He has spent years gathering allies and fortune to regain the prestige and power that the name of Whyte once possessed.

Sounds interesting! I'll make an app shortly; I've always loved medieval/Game of Thrones styled RPs.

Also: I would like to reserve apping as the County of Alms. However, may I change the name of the County and Seat to make it more fitting to what you described as the geography, and what I envision as the people who live in such terrain?

Also again: what sort of flora and fauna are present in this world?

You may reserve it. I can open up to name changes but what kind of people do you envision living there?

Flora and fauna vary according to region and time of the year. The further south you'll get warmer climates; therefore more gentler whilst the further north you'll find more resilient coniferous trees. Animal life is fairly varied as well, there are predator and prey animals that live in winter and summer climates. The only strict adherence I have is that an animal named the Golden Elk is rare; the royal family's sigil. It is forbidden to hunt such an animal under penalty of death.

I can tell a lot of this was inspired from my RP, which a lot of was shamelessly taken from other works.

House App:
Name of House: Calveley
House Banner: White Yale on a Black Background
Description of House: A very minor house in service to the Goldwyns. In days past the Calveleys have been an unremarkable House though provided many accomplished Knights throughout the years to serve the King. As of late, James Calveley has become someting of a rising star by creating one of the most elite fighting companies in the lands dubbed the Hellequin, some four hundred fighting men. James, along with his brothers and the Hellequin have served King Harold faithfully and can be counted as one of their most loyal vassals.

There have been many occasions in which Harold has sent the Calveleys and the Hellequin out to spill the blood of his enemies. Tasks that they were happy to do.

Lately, James has taken the Hellequin overseas to fight as mercenaries and plunder in foreign lands. But due to the Crisis in Mercedium, King Harold has called his loyal dog back. He will fight King Harold's war to see Mercedium purged of foreign invaders and traitors.
Lord of the House (Description): Sir James Calveley, 27, is considered one of the greatest tournament fighters in Mercedium and a very able battle commander. From Mercedium to across the seas tales are told of him leading the Hellequin to kill, burn and plunder in the name of King Harold. Relative to what passed for being a good man in medieval times, James cannot be considered evil. He is principled, loyal to the King and has a sense of honor. James is also very eccentric, prone to rousing speeches and shouting.
Nobility Ranking: Knight
Family (Name, gender, age): Sir Alaric Calveley, Male, 25
Sir Edward Calveley, Male, 22
Henry Calveley, Male, 18
Alice Calveley, Female, 17
Liege Lord: King Harold
Relevant Family/Household Members (brief description if there are lots):

Father Christopher, 35- Priest, Confessor for the Hellequin, and a lieutenant in the Hellequin.
Nicholas Fairford, 29- Commander of the Archers, some 200 of them.
Tom Hook, 20- Archer in the service of the Calveleys

Requested Lands: A manor with a keep that lords over a modest village in Elmswood
Requested Court/Titles and recipient (ex. Steward of the North or Lord Commander of the Royal Guardsman):
Other info: Its common for fighting bands to have priests with them and for some priest to be fighting men as well.
Past Rp experience (three min. required unless spoken to me otherwise): QFTC and TKS.

Name of House: House Holden.

House Banner: The background of the banner is a black color, with the Red Hills portrayed in a moderately bright red color. A golden Ram's head with large horns is placed in front of the Red Hills.

Description of House: Loyalty, Duty, Personal Courage. These words resonate with House Holden, which was founded by Ormellius Holden at the dawn of the Second Kingdom. House Holden has gained a rather militaristic reputation, as some of the Kingdom's best regiments were risen in County Longshanks, which is controlled by House Holden.

Lord of the House (Description): Count Cornellius Holden II (41 years), Count Longshanks, High Commander of the Western Rangers.

Nobility Ranking: Count.

Family (Name, gender, age):
Countess Branwyn Holden (39 years), Countess Longshanks, second wife of Count Cornellius Holden.
Sir Geralt Holden (21 years), Subordinate Commander of the Western Rangers.
Alec Holden (13 years), son of Count Cornellius Holden.

Liege Lord: N/A.

Relevant Family/Household Members (brief description if there are lots): None of any importance outside of the Western Rangers.

Requested Lands: County Longshanks.

Requested Court/Titles and recipient (ex. Steward of the North or Lord Commander of the Royal Guardsman): Count Longshanks.

Other info: During the Second Kingdom, Ormellius Longshanks founded the Western Rangers, an elite force of light infantrymen trained in mountain warfare and survival. All guardsmen and soldiers in County Longshanks are Western Rangers, having been trained to be a Ranger during the grueling 10-week training course for the Western Rangers. Their banner is identical to that of House Holden, but with a grey background as opposed to a black one.

I see. Im caught up with too many rps to take a more powerful house but the Calveleys will definitely be a valuable asset for King Harold. My first post will involve James, his brothers and the Hellequin coming back from being overseas.

Btw can the village they lord over be called Northshire?

Edit: Also is Broddock a coastal city?

That is quite alright and I'm well aware, I only have names for important cities right now so any more names people can give is appreciative. Also, the first rp will have the King watching as his lords and bannerhouses bring their levies to Broddock, so we'll all meet there.

Whoever takes the northernmost county will have to harry the barbarous Northern Men and the Jultian invaders in the meanwhile.

I've added the House of Whyte and threats to the Kingdom in the OP, please read these. The second will give you the political situation of the Kingdom more or less and the House of Whyte is the only other house I will ever control for the sake of making an intriguing rp.

Sil Arion wrote:Sounds interesting!

If approved, everything I write in this post will also be present in my app, but accordingly adjusted and adapted to fit the format.

I envisioned it, being a northern and very mountainous region that undergoes harsh winters for half the year, to be a strong and stubborn people, perhaps similar to Scandinavians and Germans in psychology and physiology, with emphases on strength, honor, and faith in mind, body and spirit and the people following an unspoken but highly internalized moral code based on those tenants. Leaders are chosen in the fashion of the Old Germanic councils, where bodies of leading men and elders elect a leader based on his example as the living embodiment of their code and as the greatest of all men in their region as such. Incompetent leaders are nonexistent as their code demands competency. Weakness in mind, body, or spirit is extremely looked down upon, as is laziness, selfishness, and other perceptively negative traits - there is no room for weakness in a land where only the strong survive.

In addition to strength, honor, and faith, loyalty and honesty and trust are the next greatest positive traits, and are highly encouraged; there are none now, after centuries of following and living the code, there are quite literally no living breakers of it, or any who don't adhere to it. When oaths are taken, they are for life and never to be broken, even in death and beyond. Oath-breakers and code-breakers, regardless of level or crime, are punished very strictly. Often the penalty for any crime is death, or a hefty fine and prison sentence; however, the latter is very rare. Due to this unspoken moral code and strict nature, laws are few and leaders are more of guides and decision-makers regarding policies for religion, military, commerce, construction, etc. Due to all this, the people is highly loyal to the Crown and Silver Throne, and are incredibly united as a people. Furthermore, due to the code and the elected nature of their leadership, regardless of level, local or regional, the people are steadfastly loyal to their leaders and trust completely in them. Once, three centuries ago, there was a civil war in the region over a blood-feud. It was short, seven years, but was a complete bloodbath and the losing side was completely killed off.

However, that all being said, they greatly appreciate living, to laugh and love, and do look well on mercy when and where it is needed or should be given. They hold grand feasts and festivals often, and enjoy drinking beer and general merriment, with a special joy for dancing and singing in the style of their people. Given everything, they are a highly traditional people in terms of customs, but overall their custom are very few. They have little use or wish for pomp or circumstance, and greatly prefer to be straightforward and to the point. Their sense of humor is quite laconic, often dry wit, and jokes are centered around their culture, and also often making light fun of other regions and cultures.

To embellish on the climate and geography, I thought there might be a vast network of deep fjords in the eastern mountains that lead into rivers within the great western forests of the region, with the borders of the region being a great river that acts as the main conduit of the regional watershed, very wide and fast, and difficult to cross but good for trade to the south. The forests are of great trees for construction, and many veins of iron and precious metals in the mountains for forging. The forests cover nearly half the region, covering the foothills leading up to the mountains, and then thinning out form there, but completely covering the many valleys in the mountains cut by fjords. The mountains themselves would be very tall in comparison to their girth, and so travelling over them is completely out of the question and so sailing by the fjords is the only real option in the region. So, the land is either forests or mountains or fjords.

In terms of more exact flora and fauna, I thought the forests are home to many very larger tree species, oaks and such, with ferns being the predominant species along the forest floors. The lush trees are home to many species of songbirds and birds-of-prey, the latter being many owls and eagles, and the forest floor being home to great herds of deer, many species of smaller creatures, and then bears and wolves, with the latter being the dominant predator in the entire region, even the mountains. All creatures have a heavy white coat of fur or feathers in the freezing winter which lasts five to six months of the year and covers everything in snow, and then shed it for a grey coat in the temperate and cool summer. Fewer animals live in the mountains, but they are home to mountain deer (like mountain goats, with great jumping ability) and great wolves which hunt the mountain deer, larger than the forest ones. And, to further detail the climate and weather, snowstorms and blizzards occur nearly every day in the winter, whilst thunderstorms and rainstorms occur nearly every day in the summer, with high and cool winds blowing from the ever-frozen heights of the moments, bringing with the storms from the saturated air of the sea to the east, bringing life to the great forests and ferns and water to the fjords and rivers.

I hope all this gives a good explanation for the region, as you described it, and as I detailed.

In terms of name changing, I thought a name that embodies their people and land, something that embodies their code and climate and whatnot. While I have few ideas regarding a name for the region, the people, and the sub-regions and settlements, I'd thought along the lines of Nordic or Germanic ones. To be honest, Skyrim was tempting, but I wouldn't be so presumptuous to do so. I was thinking the County of Storms, and the people the Stormborn, given the weather and climate, and their lifestyle. Their moral doctrine I thought may be named the Code of Storms, and their elected leader the Stormlord, or Count of Storms.

Should you approve of all this, I'd be very grateful. I'll likely also include names of major families/houses/households/whatnot in my app, and several other things as well, regarding settlements, commerce, construction, technology, etc.

Name of House: House Rander

House Banner: Red Stallion on a Yellow Background

Description of House: House Rander was formed during King Mercedius' unification of the kingdom. The king had landed his forces at the south of the kingdom. Before continuing his conquest to the north, he assigned one of his faithful lieutenants, Mikel Rander, to watch over the territory, quell remaining resistance, and keep the king's peace. Mikel did this faithfully, even sending many forces north to aid the king in his conflicts. For his loyal service, Mikel and all his heirs forevermore were granted the County of New Hope, with all its associated incomes and, more importantly, vassals. Since then, House Rander has served their rightful kings faithfully and fiercely. Their words: Strength in Loyalty.

Lord of the House (Description): Lord Daren Rander, at the young age of twenty-one, is the current Lord of Mercidius' Landing. He has fulfilled this duty these last three years, when his father suddenly and tragically died of illness. Lord Daren has continued his house's traditionally strong loyalty to their monarchs. Daren enjoys the materialistic pleasures of life. He is also a strong swordsman, as he has received much training in this aspect during his childhood. Due to his impulsiveness, his tactics leave something to be desired, though there is some potential if he could be less headstrong.

Nobility Ranking: Lord/Count
Family (Name, gender, age): His mother, Lady Jenna Rander, 47 years of age
His uncle, Graeg Rander, 41 years of age
His eldest sister, Lady Maria Rander, twenty-seven years of age, wed to Svend Svart
His second sister, Lady Caitlyn Rander, twenty-four years of age
His first brother, Taryll Rander, seventeen years of age
His youngest brother, Wylis Rander, twelve years of age

Liege Lord: King Harold

Relevant Family/Household Members (brief description if there are lots): Sir Haryld Grylis, Commander of the Lord's Guard and trusted advisor and friend to Lord Daren
Sir Kavan Jormar, Admiral of the Rander Fleet and advisor to Lord Daren
Beryn Tarius, Leader of a group of sellswords in House Rander's service

Requested Lands: County of New Hope

Requested Court/Titles and recipient (ex. Steward of the North or Lord Commander of the Royal Guardsman): Steward of the South, Daren Rander

Yes you may, I'll just need a bio of the character you had in mind. If he's apart of a noble house, then just add him to the other info section and the requested titles. Just fyi, you'll be the Vary's of this rp, no one likes or trusts you and you gotta look out for yourself.

Yes, you are correct but i'll be adding all the cities and notable landmarks upon it before it's officially up.
