In the twentieth year in the reign of his majesty; Harold Goldwyn, the Third of his name, King of Mercedium, Count of the Northern Lands, Heir of the Sorobii, and Protector of the Realm, the third moon of that year found much displeasure in his majesty’s court. The King’s brother Jon, Count of the Royal Green Pastures, was found to be plotting against his majesty and upon his discovery had fled to the north. He wintered amongst the men of the North, riling their wicked masses into a frenzied state of war against the King. For Jon was a man filled with jealousy of his older brother’s crown and had lived enraged in envy ever since his father; the dearly departed Harold the Good King, had left his offices and his royal seal to his rightful heir. But it was not the wisdom of the gods or legality of blood that Jon recognized. The riches of silver and gold, the fires of war, the pleasures of the flesh, these vices were what he craved, and it was the crown on top of Harold’s head that Jon obsessed; he would have sold the souls of a thousand men to hold it within his grasp.
The wicked Jon had taken arms against his elder brother before, but he and his allies had been broken by the King with the gods at his back at every past occasion. This year however, the winter had been colder than living memory could recall. Jon had gained an unlikely ally from across the Great Sea, King Scabbard Jorge, Lord of the Jults; a warlord of the mountain kingdom, a man larger than all in Mercedium; he had a great horde at his command, a man to whom Jon sold the treasures of his rightful King’s lands. As Harold had made plans for war with Jon when winter had lifted, Scabbard had made plans with the traitorous Jon and had laid claim to Harold’s crown through a distant marriage between that of his uncle Hagar of Sven to that of the Kings half-aunt Padilla, a claim made of words and words alone.
It was King Scabbard himself that would lead the Jultian horde across the Great Sea into the open arms of Jon the Traitor; the gods curse him, and were augmented by the hordes of Northern Men he could muster. Upon hearing word of this, Harold became enraged with his brother; naming his life forfeit, renouncing his claim on the crown and confiscated all his titles and lands, all these which he had graciously bestowed upon him in the hopes of ending the feud between them, now forever a war for blood. The Royal Army was mustered as the north became enflamed by Men of the North harrying the land as they moved south whilst the Jultian ships raided along the coast. The Steward of the North held the Men of the North for as long as was manly possible until the Jults arrived in force at Peacock Bay.
This is a medieval rp, as the little intro states; the Kingdom of Mercedium is currently in a state war. King Harold is currently being challenged by his brother Jon in an attempt to usurp the throne. The Kingdom is at war with the barbarous Northern Men and an invasion from the Kingdom of Jultland. The King of Jultland, Scabbard Scorge, supports Jon in his attempt of usurpation in the hopes of expanding the Jultian Kingdom into a vast Empire and plans on placing Jon upon the Silver Throne as his vassal.
For this rp there are a number of rules:
1) This is a medieval rp, which means medieval tech no later than 14th century.
2) I'm the OP; so if you have questions you can ask me OOC or TG me.
3) No magic; the reason is it can get out of hand with what is or isn't possible.
4) No godmodding.
5) No flaming, bickering, arguing in any manner that doesn't follow NS etiquette.
6) Realistic rping, ex. Travel is limited due to there being only horses for transportation, cannot instantaneously mobilize 10,000 men-at-arms, etc.
7) No one-liners or small paragraph posts. Realism requires much more than simple answers, give your characters thoughts and personalities seeing as there will be political intrigue involved.
8 ) Dedicated rper's that will post at least once a day or two. Try and be available whenever humanly possible at least once a day.
9) Army Restrictions: Lord/Count = 10 - 40,000 men
Baron = 10 - 30, 000 men
Knight = 100 - 1000 men (pending their wealth and prestige)
Members of the Royal Guardsman and the King's Council are incapable amassing such forces since their titles are in name-only, they do not possess lands in accordance with their noble rank.
I'm currently open to about five or six Great Houses to rule over counties across the Kingdom.
The traitor Jon will have had his position as Count of the Royal Green Pastures confiscated by the crown, anyone who applies to become the successor to this prestigious position will get it.
