Currently we have three apps and.... 15 votes.

I have since decided to ignore the votes of 12 of the categories and go with "Low Fantasy".

Mainly because I don't want to change the app form.

Let me clarify.

I like creativity and I would normally go "Fuck yes, go custom races". Because I am a firm adherent of appealing to the masses while retaining a smart group of members who can exercise their creativity and make their own custom races and stuff.

But when you get right down to it, people will play humans or creatures very close to humans. In fact, it is a very rare person who will play a different race for anything other than "Oh, yeah, I have this special power". They will not get into the cultural things, or linguistics or racism or anything that would come from a different race.

It really just becomes a human with a few differences.

Therefore, I view it as a redundant and unneeded thing.

I would rather not. The simpler this RP is the better, since I mean for it to be largely player-run with accountability to each other.

If this goes well though, I may do another similar RP with High Fantasy.

I've personally decided not to run custom races because, bluntly, if a race is too inhuman, applying the game mechanics I've already formulated to them wouldn't make any sense. And I'll be bollocksed if I'm going to write entirely new mechanics for each player.

I would personally say you should go full fantasy. Again, completely up to you- but full fantasy gives more chances to show creativity and retain a crowd of interested people. Remember, your target audience is a bunch of bored American teenagers with no job or social life. They would prefer a high fantasy over a low.

Again, just me. I'm not even joining this, because I'm not an American teenager with no job or social life. :p

In any other RP, I would fully agree.

Sadly, I too am not an American teenager with no job. The social life is debatable :P Even so, two hours a day is about how much time I can devote to NS, tops. I have several other commitments, and like I said, if races are anything other than rubber-mask humiez then they would need new combat mechanics. So.... erm... I value my free time. That's my excuse, at any rate.

Mind you, if you want to have your faction-specific unit be of a different race, go ahead. Won't bother me. Ara is predominantly human though, and just because a unit is Orkz or something doesn't mean I'll let them be gamebreaking.

Faction Name: Demens Domus
Leader Name: Jake Foehammer
Starting Location: Far Eastern coast
Short Faction Biography: Demens Domus is the foremost scouting party of a foreign nation's navy. A scouting party that was supposed to secure ground, to gain a foothold for the rest of the navy to stand on and hack away at the island's inhabitants.
A navy that will never come.
A monster, unknown in origin, description or likeness tore through it long ago, leaving nothing but splinters, scraps too small to be called rags and an area of the sea that will soon be named 'The Gates of Hell', tinged red for a millenia more.
But that is neither here nor there, as the founders of the Demens society know none of this. Instead they knew that they are to gain a foothold. To establish limited soveriengty. And then to wait for help. So this is what they did. They established a beachhead and rode inward for several miles with limited resistance before setting up camp. And so they waited, quiet. And so they waited, harmless. But once the king died, bandits became more active; other factions stronger; poverty more common. Riots became as often as a light rain, the public sick and tired of weathering the swell of violence. And so the government acted. And so it conquers.
Faction Special Unit: Sloop Detachment:
Cost: 90 gold/100 men|Size: 5 Sloops|Attack: 3|Structure Points: 20|Move speed: 7|Special: Transport (transports 70 men for a total of 350 men per detachment if fully loaded)
Faction Special Building: Shipwright:
Cost: 50 gold|Minimum Coast|Structure Points: 6|

Faction Name: Crimson Sword
Leader Name: Mortrex the Red
Starting Location: Left NW peninsula.
Short Faction Biography:
Born out of bloodbrothers from the ancient war, the Crimson Sword is a battle-brotherhood that has changed very little from the old times. However, they have softened their restrictions on who can live in their land, and so they have attracted a larger following, and instead of being a brotherhood, they are now a faction.
Faction Special Unit: Battlebrothers: The common foot-infantry of the Crimson, they're stronger and more powerful than most other infantry- but much slower.
Cost: x | Size: 80 men | Attack : 15 | Defense: 5 | Morale: 110 | Movespeed: 1
Special: Battlerage
Increase attack by 5, but bring down defense by 5.
Faction Special Building:
Citadel: Increase defense of units inside by 5. Units entering the Citadel gain bows to attack with akin to the standard archers, though they must be left at the Citadel after exiting. This is a hardy building, should have high structure points.

Faction Special Unit: Titus's Imperial Legionary Cohort

Starting Location: the gulf area east of the capital with those three grey cities
Short Faction Biography: despite having resided in Ara for centuries, the Oni Clan has an alien culture compared to the rest of the kingdom. It is not known how their culture could remain inact for so long, but it remains nonetheless. Due to this the Oni Clan failed to connect with the other factions despite holding a disciplined clan-wide demeanor. Since the king's death their leader, Lord Goza Goma, was rumored to be plotting "assertive foreign policies."
Faction Special Unit:
Siege Retainer- special engineers with their own unique choice of constructs. May be armed with fire rockets in cities with a fireworks shop, which can be used once before the Siege Retainers need to rearm.
Cost: 60 gold | Size: 10 men | Attack: 4| Defense: 3 | Morale: 100 | Movespeed: 2 | Special:
Firerocket Battery [15 range| 6 attack| Ignores Cover bonus| requires Fireworks Shop visit]
Construction [can build and operate one piece of siege equipment]
Siege Ladders: Five heavy ladders that allow you to scale enemy walls, these are a nice addition to any city attack. Cost: 0 gold. Each takes 2 Engineers to carry.
Catapult: Two small torsion catapults that can batter down enemy walls and gates. Cost: 20 gold. Each takes 5 Engineers to fire. Range: 30 squares | Attack: 2 | Shots: 5 per catapult | 10 structure points. Cannot fire over defenses.
Battering Ram: A large siege device capable of smashing down enemy gates. Cost: 20 gold. Takes 5 Engineers to operate. Attack: 5 | 20 structure points. Adds 2 Defense to the Engineer unit operating it.
Mantlet: A large moving shield used to protect units as they advance. Cost: 20 gold. 10 structure points. Does not require siege retainers to operate. Can carry one unit. Adds 2 Defense to the unit inside it, but may not be combined with other siege equipment.
Fire-projecting Mangonel: A large siege engine that can throw fire pots over walls. Cost: 60 gold. Takes 10 Engineers to fire. Range: 30 squares | Attack: 5 | Shots: 6 | 10 structure points. Ignores defense bonus when attacking units behind walls. Deals no damage against stone structures.

Faction Special Building: Fireworks Shop: Improves morale of defending units by 10. Improves morale of outgoing units by 10 for 3 turns or until after the first battle. | Cost: 100 Gold | Minimum Town | 1 Max

I like this app; good bio, specific faction details not unbalanced.

My only question is this: what is a Shipwright good for? I'm assuming it increases your Sloop Detachement Recruitment cap, but I want to make sure. Also, Structure points on buildings other than defenses are largely unnecessary.

Citadel: Increase defense of units inside by 5. Units entering the Citadel gain bows to attack with akin to the standard archers, though they must be left at the Citadel after exiting. This is a hardy building, should have high structure points.

Hmm. Mkay.

I'd put the Battlebrothers at costing 200 gold, which is pretty intense, but in simulation they soaked five units of Spearmen which cost 40 gold each. If that's chill with you, I can roll with that.

Also, the Citadel.
Citadel: Cost: 320 gold | Town Minimum | 50 Structure points | 1 Max | Effects: +5 Defense for units inside, Archer attacks for all units inside.
Again, pretty high priced for a building. Those Archer attacks for even four units though gets very dangerous very quickly.

Leader Name: General Titus Julius Caesar
Starting Location: South-Eastern Mountain Range
Short Faction Biography: Titus has held his group of people together with the promise of freedom and power. He believes that the people should elect a sole ruler they believe to follow their interests and feelings. Titus has had this thinking and has been enabled to unite a group of people for this purpose, to build a better and more free life away from others that want to tell them how to live. To build an empire united by the people, for the people, and to lead them a leader they think has the skill, ambition, and leadership skills to run, govern, and protect them.
Faction Special Unit: Titus's Imperial Legionary Cohort
These are heavily armored shock troops, but they're a prime target and are expensive. They can kill a lot if they catch the enemy though.
Cost: 800 gold | Size: 600 men | Attack: 10 | Defense: 6 | Morale: 100 | Movespeed: 2.5 | Testudo and Pila Throw

Faction Special Building:
Imperial Town Hall:
Cost:100 Gold, Imperial Town Hall increases recruitment slot to 3. Has 6 structure points. Allows 2 units of peasants to be upgraded to spearmen. Increases tax collection by 5 gold and happiness by 3. Only 1 max per town.

I'd rather not have movespeeds of fractions, since putting an army halfway between squares would be messy. Otherwise, seems relatively decent. I need you to chose either the Testudo or the Pila Throw though, and stat out that Special's effects.

As far as the Town Hall, what do you mean by increasing the recruitment slot? Three units may already be recruited per settlement. Again, one Effect/Special per building.

Yes. Shipwright makes sloops. And I just wanted to give it some substance, you know?
