Three weeks had passed since the seekers of the Lost Chalice had begun their quest, and two since they had left the mostly abandoned planet where they had met the two giants that had given them a valuable hint regarding their search for the legendary artifact.

During the time they spent in the planet while waiting for the magnetic anomaly to subside, the group, most notably Arcadius and Aylin, had been studying the newly acquired part of the journal. The clues within were vague and cryptic, so a good deal of time was required before they, with occasional help from other members of the group, managed to pinpoint the likely location of the next hint. During this examination, they had also found that the journal in question was split in several pieces, each leading to the next. How this was even possible, they had no idea aside from simple conjectures.

And now, after two weeks of traveling through the endless void, occasionally stopping on satellites and allied planets to rest, they had arrived at their target location. Gaelia. Once a distant colony of an Order allied with the Phantom Blade, contact with it had been long since lost after a sudden unknown incident. And now fate had brought them all the way here.

The planet appeared to be mostly desolate, a depressing sight indeed. Abandoned cities everywhere. There seemed to be one that was not quite abandoned, however. And thus, the group had decided to land not far from said settlement, in order to investigate.

And this is where they currently were, at the foot of a hill not far from the city.

Holly had been treking the nearby area for the last few days, looking for signs of life. As of yet so far, she hadn't found any sign that even a speck of moss has seen this landscape since the incident, it was so barren.

She landed herself here in search of supplies, most notably fuel, and her quest for that has so far been quite unsuccessful. But something told her to land here - she never knew where this instinct came from, but it hasn't really failed her yet.

Eventually, she reached a place where there seemed to be a sign of life - maybe it was the smoke in the air that signaled fire (cooking fire?), or maybe it was something moving in the distance. Finally she thought, and began to walk towards the small settlement.

Fulgure walked along with the main group, her armor still inactive. The planet was desolate, too desolate for there to even be any monsters or beasts to fight. Which was a bit disappointing, but she didn't mind too much.

Then, signs of civilization. A fire, and the smell of food cooking. She reached her hand for her stomach, but then returned it to her side. She was quite hungry - she hadn't eaten on the journey to the planet - but she wasn't about to show that.

As Holly approached the settlement, she would almost immediately notice that there seemed to be a barely visible trasluscent green barrier surrounding it, apparently shielding it. The settlement itself, at least as far as Holly could see from outside, was not something very impressive: Several austere white structures dotted the landscape, and even inside the city, nothing seemed to live, not animals, not plants, nothing. In the middle of the city there was a larger circular structure, and rising from it was a large spire that reached the top of the trasluscent barrier, smoke emerging from it in great ammounts, staying outside of the barrier.

The fire was not cooking fire. Not at all. But Holly did not know this.

What she did know was that, standing on a rock not far from her position, there was a figure covered in a black suit that somehow appeared to be a hybrid between a proper armor and a simple robe. The figure in question wore a white mask with big, round glass barriers over where the eyes would be and a long beak protruding from where the nose and mouth would be in a normal Redemit's face.

The figure quickly approached.

"Who are you?!" He demanded. "More importantly, why the hell are you here, and, have you met anyone? Have you touched anything blue since you came here? Inhaled any gases?"

Trekking through the abandoned ruins with the group, Aylin was hardly any more optimistic about the quest than before. While she did not doubt the abilities of her companions, their personalities were starting to grate at her. Worse was the clue they managed to obtain. Fragmented into several pieces, the journal seem to raise more questions than answers. If anything, it's more like following a trail of breadcrumbs, like Hansel and Gretel. For all she knew, there might be another 'big bad wolf' waiting for them at the end like that mage, or even his enigmatic order.

"I don't trust this journal," she spoke to the others, her toy kittens hidden right under her cloak's neckline as she scribbled some writing into her log, "it's like it's asking us to follow its author. I would like to believe he split it up in order to prevent miscreants from trying to follow it, but then if someone like that mage had gotten that clue and escaped before we came along, it would be no different than handing over the whole thing. He never even wrote his name down. I can't trace it to anyone in our libraries."

Aylin's impression of their mysterious assailant thus far has been nothing short of dismal, not the least because he put their lives in danger, but also because of his cryptic response to Cara's outrage. But what annoyed her about him was his desire to claim the grail for his order, something Aylin had quite anticipated. Even among their own group, she could sense that there were those among her companions who had the desire to bring the Chalice to their homeworld, whether it was for prestige or for political backing. Aylin would have guessed already, though she herself had yet to suspect the motives of her own superiors. At this point, she was hoping that someone could at least give a decent response to her, at least one that lacked the typical mythic embellishments she had been forced to hear so far.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the strange figure. He reminded her of some early bio-engineering experiments done on mice back at home to test whether morphology changes would be possible to encode. And now this freak figure was standing in front of her.

What IS he? she wondered.

Something told her to answer honestly here. This figure seemed dangerous.

"My name is Holly; I landed here looking for fuel and supplies, and I have yet to meet anyone. Blue? What is blue? And my good sir, are you not inhaling gas right now?" she replied, rolling her green eyes at the last part of the sentence.

The figure's eye twitched beneath the mask, and it let out a loud, prolonged sigh, before retrieving a small device from a slot in his armor and putting near its mask.

"I found an otherworlder. Skin color looks normal. Hair color shows no sudden decoloration, and there are no obvious anomalies in her body. Higher cognitive functions appear unaffected. Sense of sarcasm is unhindered... Sadly." He said.

"Did she inhale or touch anything?" A voice said from within the device.

"I have no fucking idea." The figure replied, obviously not pleased. After a few moments of deliberation, the voice on the other end of the device spoke again.

"Alright. Bring her in before something bad happens." The voice stated.

After that, the figure stored the device in its armor once again. "Alright, well, Holly, you should follow me. Unless you want to die a slow and needlessly painful death, of course. Note that I'm not threatening you, only warning you." He said, and then started walking back to the settlement. Whether or not Holly followed, he would stop by the shield.

The three weeks after retrieving the journal went painfully slow for Cynthia. She longed for her wife and couldn't bear being apart for so long. Her body also longed for other things, and she ended up propositioning everyone in the party save for Cara and Kolémeyn for sex. Thankfully, there were takers, even of only Alaxyl, Rin, and Fulgure complied. Cynthia wasn't entirely satisfied by the experience, being used to the skill and prowess of the other members of Divine Pleasure, but she was desperate enough that it was enough to tide her over until she got home. Besides, she could always continue on by herself after the three of them inevitably passed out from exhaustion. While they lacked the stamina to work at Cynthia's speed and frequency, they seemed eager enough, probably because this was likely their first encounter of a carnal nature with a member of Divine Pleasure. Nevertheless, the young mage was still saddened by the length of time away from her wife.

On one of the allied and populated planets, Cynthia was able to get in contact with the Divine Magi again and discuss some things with him. He had talked with the Phantom Blade about the whole thing, but didn't feel it overly necessary to bother Cynthia with the details. He simply told her to stay with them and help them any way she can. The young mage also took this time to get in contact with Lillian and spent pretty much the entirety of the break on the planet talking with her wife, sad at the time apart. Lillian, told the mage to do what must be done and that she'd be there waiting for when Cynthia came home. This cheered her up some, but she still worried about it.

Not much else of note particularly happened during the trip except for one bizarre event about a week before reaching the planet. While they were flying through the blackness of space, they encountered a dirty and unshaven hobo wandering around on a poorly-maintained pegasus that likely wasn't even his. The group didn't learn much about who he was or where he came from, but he referred to himself as "Emperor Nightkill," a name that none of them had recognized. When asked what empire he ruled and why he was aimlessly flying through space, he responded by flirting with Cynthia. As she had been a long time without a good, hard penis inside of her, the mage relented almost immediately, and the two began having sex on an asteroid more or less right in front of the group. After the asteroid broke from the sheer force of their exertion, they moved onto another, eventually breaking four asteroids over the course of an hour and a half before they finally finished. Soon after, the strange man got on his pegasus and flew off, not responding to any more questions and leaving everyone puzzled.

When the group reached the planet, Cynthia, who had been riding along with Danica, followed the group, staying near the middle, as they walked towards the settlement.

Cara had spent a great deal of time in the previous three weeks generally being quiet and unresponsive. While Cynthia was making fast friends with just about everyone, Cara ignored them. She wasn't hostile or malicious or even particularly mean-spirited. She just avoided them whenever possible. If they needed her for something, she'd answer curtly and go about her business. Thankfully for her, that wasn't very often. Mostly, it was Arcadius asking the occasional question of her in relation to the journal. Her perspective of history may have been skewed by Sworn Oath propaganda, but it was still surprisingly accurate and detailed for things that had no relation to her Order, which was just about everything he asked her. She didn't actively help him like Aylin as, despite having a better-than-average knowledge of history compared to most, she was no scholar and likely wouldn't have been of significant help, anyways. Beyond that, she didn't do much worthy of comment during the three weeks.

On the new planet, Cara walked with Arcadius near the front, ready to attack anything that might jump out at them.

Slow and painful death? That honestly doesn't sound good.

Figuring that she had no choice, she decided to follow. Chances are that he could give her what she needed in order to move on.

"Alright Bird-Man. I mean, honestly, dying slowly and painfully? That sounds a lot like old age, but whatever. Let's go."

And with that comment, the two of them walked towards the settlement.

"Wrong: Old age is not necessarily painful, even if it is much slower than what I'm talking about." The 'Bird-Man' said "Now, don't get me wrong, I'd love to leave you out here, but we have a duty with Redemitkind." He stated.

It was not long after that they came to a stop next to the trasluscent green barrier that surrounded the settlement, which was, by the way, much more noticeable the closer one was to it. Pulling out the device again, the 'Bird-Man' spoke, first to Holly.

"Don't touch it." He said, gesturing towards the barrier, before speaking into the device.

"This is Reed. Requesting entry on Access Point 030A." He said into the device. Several most likely uncomfortable moments later, a small hole opened on the green trasluscent shield, big enough for a Redemit to step in. Reed had Holly walk inside first, and then stepped into the settlement right behind her, the barrier closing down behind him.

Holly would immediately notice that the air seemed much cleaner inside the settlement. From some of the buildings nearby, curious eyes observed the new arrivals.

Reed, meanwhile took out his mask, revealing himself to be a young man of about 200 with black hair and dark brown eyes. He took a deep breath of the cleaner air of the city, and let it all out in a sigh of relief, before turning towards Holly.

"So, fuel and supplies right?" He asked, his mood having apparently improved as soon as he walked into the barrier. "Alright, we'll see what we can do about that. No offense, but the sooner we get you out of here, the better." He said, and motioned for her to follow once again, before heading towards the center.

Yes, Holly has a bad habit of giving lip. Hasn't gotten her killed yet of course.

"Now why would I do that?" she asked, giving him an innocent look.

But yes, she knew better than to touch things that she's not familiar with - or at least touch them with her bare hands. Working in a bio-engineering lab does that to a person.

"Bird Man" wasn't actually bad looking when he had the mask off, Holly thought. Not that I would fuck him, but still.

"Understood. Seems like a bad place outside; it's as if the heavens brought down fire and brimstone and destroyed every living thing in sight. Thank you." she said, the first sign of sincerity creeping into her voice. "I appreciate it."

And with that the two of them went towards the center.

Wolf had been more social then he had been on the first day over the course of time, but still wasn't like, super social. He avoided Cara and, eventually, Cynthia because he was just totally weirded out by her. He also seemed more hostile toward Aylin the the others, apart from Cara. The reason for this was probably unknown to anyone but him. He didn't like Aylin for how she blamed Heike for something she wasn't even involved in. For something other people did. He found it stupid, and honestly it disgusted him. Whether or not she was still hostile toward Heike, he wasn't sure, but until he was sure, he wasn't going to be nice to her.

Other then that, nothing involving him really happened over the weeks. He was currently just following along with the rest of the group. He had his full armor on, apart from his helmet. It was only once they were there for a little while that he had started questioning how safe the air might be, but he figured if it was dangerous, it was to late to do anything about it, now, anyway. Might not have been the smartest decision ever, but whatever.
Times are looking grim these days~

At Holly's last comment, Reed chuckled darkly, and looked at the sky. "Nah, it was something much more subtle..." He said quietly. "I wish it had been fire and brimstone. We would have had a much better chance." He added. After several moments, though, he shook his head. "But anyway, you're welcome." He said, and continued walking. As the two walked closer to the center of the settlement, more and more people could be seen going about on their daily business. Most wore lightly colored clothes: White, pink, light green... But there was no blue anywhere. Now and then, people dressed like Reed would also show up, almost always heading away from the center. And as Reed and Holly walked, the latter inevitably drew curious stares from nearly everyone they came across. And there was one more thing worthy of note: Despite the colors that covered the settlement, there was a pervading sadness within.

A man clad in black armor and wearing a beaked mask walked towards Reed and Holly. His frame was larger than Reed's, and he wielded what appeared to be a sickle. Reed seemed to recognize him, so he hastened his pace and went to meet him.

"Revenslar." He said, greeting the other man.

"Sandar." The other man greeted. "The blue gods haven't claimed you yet I see."

Reed shook his head. "I've had luck." He said simply.

"Who is she?" Revenslar asked, motioning towards Holly with the head.

"An otherworlder." Reed responded. Revenslar looked at Holly for a moment before addressing her.

"Should destiny and its foul play trap you here, miss, hear me well: Not everything that shines in this barren wasteland is gold." He said, and then gave Reed a pat on the shoulder before continuing on his gloomy way.

Not long after that encounter, they arrived at the building on the center of the settlement, the one with the large tower. As he approached, a grin started growing on Reed's face. When he arrived at the door, he peeked in through the glass, and then, with childish glee, he drew back his foot and kicked the door open.

"Clowzia!" He shouted at almost the same time.

The room where the two had arrived was not much to look at this time, either. Some chairs on the sides, hallways and doors leading to other parts of the buildings, and behind a desk, several holodisplays and a girl with black hair and dark brown eyes that seemed to have been sleeping but was now glaring at Reed with the fury of a million stars. For a moment she looked like she was about to say something, but noticing that there were innocent minds present, she simply slumped down on her chair and started working with the information on the holodisplays.

"Reed." She said coldly. Reed simply continued grinning as he walked up to the desk.

"Where's Titania? I need to talk to her." He said, now more serious. Clowzia glared at him some more before looking at one of the displays.

"She still hasn't returned. She should be back shortly." She stated, before focusing on her work once again. Sighing, Reed walked back to one of the chairs on the sides of the room and slumped down. He motioned for Holly to do the same.

"The person we need to talk to should arrive in a bit." He said simply, and then leaned back on his seat and waited, watching the rather boring room. Occasionally, some people would go from hallway to hallway or from door to door, sometimes carrying information devices, sometimes carrying small metal boxes they transported with utmost care.

Even within the building, the sensation was still present. A vague sensation of resignation reigned inside and outside.

Heike swiftly trekked behind Arcadius, carrying a quite big-looking backpack on her shoulders. It carried food, kits to polish armors and swords, food for Kyle, charts of the nearest star systems, something that resembled a music player of the 21st Century and that was loaded with hymns and chants from various Knightly orders. And they were more than an hundred songs.

See, Heike had taken the opportunity of shopping on an allied planet too much enthusiastically. The music player was currently connected to her ears, pumping melodies directly in her brain and making her mind relax due to the exquisite songs that it carried.
"These Automated Minstrels always fascinated me, Herr Arcadius! What a shame that I never thought of buying one while on Kerberos!"

The Automated Minstrel was currently playing a song in a foreign language, with particularly heavy drums, most likely electrical ones, and a synthetic and sharp lead sound leading all of it. The singer was a man, a young sounding one, an dhis voice was quite enthusiastical.
"Sir, have you ever worked with the Order of the Hatakeyama? Alternatively known as the Hatakeyama Clan? I am listening to one of their hymns right now, and I just recalled about learning something of them during the astral geography lessons at school."

Heike continued walking, while listening to the hymn. "They have very quirky armor and swords, speak in a foreign language that is quite different from the Univeral Language, not even having the same linguistic basis, and they also have a culture that still has knights, but treats them a little more...harsly, than ours. Do you know that, if an Hatakeyama knight fails his mission, he is required to die at his own hand if he doesn't want to pass the rest of his life in dishonour? It's cruel! On Kerberos, we only submit them to tests to see if they can still be good knights, and if they don't pass them, we demote them. Just that!"

A better chance? What the heck happened over here that caused such misery?

She knew that she probably shouldn't ask, though. It seemed to be a rather touchy subject.

As the two of them kept walking, all she could sense was this sense of impeding doom. Of grief, of sadness, of misery, of loss. The gay colors that most of the people within that settlement wore were seemed to her to be simply masks that hid their suffering and depression, as if the brightness of the colors would make up for the lack of happiness that pervaded this settlement.

There was no blue anywhere - none at all. It seemed as if the people were superstitious about that color, frightened of it. It would be silly in any other context - it would be irrational back at home, or in any other Order that she's visited - but then again, what if their fear was justified? What if they had a reason to fear the color blue?

Even if the color blue was simply a wave of visible light, and even if blue objects are just objects reflecting the colors within that wavelength to be detected by their eyes, she was not about to test fate now.

Zarkenis Ultima wrote:A man clad in black armor and wearing a beaked mask walked towards Reed and Holly.

It wasn't as if she had ever found something that had a glimmer or a sparkle on the landscape yet, but she kept it in mind.

Zarkenis Ultima wrote:Not long after that encounter, they arrived at the building on the center of the settlement, the one with the large tower.

"I understand," Holly replied. "I can wait."

Was there really more that she could say? The atmosphere of depression, of apathy, of grief, of sadness untold, of fear and hopelessness and resignation and all of that -- she didn't want to disturb it, in fear that it would cause the entire community to come up against her in a backlash, and all of that emotion that hung in the air turned into violent anger, fueled by fear of the outside, of the color blue, of something that she would never know or fully understand.

Instead, she stood there, paying attention to what was going on around her. What else could she do?
"I should have listened to her, so hard to keep control. We kept on eating but our bloated bellies still not full."

During the weeks that went by, Mallory didn't do a whole lot worthwhile. Which was probably to be expected. It wasn't very likely that she got to know anyone that well, either, unless she was spoken to. If spoken to, she could actually become pretty talkative. She was pretty open to talk about her past, family, and whatnot if asked about it. But she didn't talk unless she felt it more necessary, or someone stirred up a conversation she felt like joining in or she was asked questions. There may of been people she talked to more on her own, like Heike for example, but that would probably be about it.

"This place is interesting, but it also feels rather depressing with how desolate it looks. With the exception of that one city we saw, of course" Mallory said to nobody in particular while hanging with the group. She seemed fascinated by where they were though, desolate or not. But that was because she was easily fascinated and curious about different planets and the way they looked, their history, or what happened to places like that. So, she found it very interesting to look around while they were here, even if there wasn't a whole lot worth looking at exactly.

In the weeks that went by, Danica truly hadn't done much, thinking back on it. Spoken and spent time with Cynthia, yes, but she had never really... found out what the Order of Divine Pleasure was named for. IfyouknowwhatImean, right? Danica shook her head to clear the troublesome thoughts, and then kept walking with the group. She had talked a little bit with Aspirlacial, to no success for his story, and obviously a little with Arcadius, as her employer, but she mainly kept to herself.

It was an odd surprise, having Cynthia riding behind Danica in her Pegasus, but not undoable - it was built to house two (perhaps a bit more closely than some would be comfortable with, but it didn't seem to be a problem with Cynthia) in case she needed to get her client out of a danger zone quickly. She tapped Cynthia on the shoulder, gently, hoping not to scare the Mage. "Cynthia?" she asked quietly.

While walking, Cynthia noticed a tap on her shoulder and turned her head to see Danica following behind her. Slowing down a big, the mage fell back until the two were side-by-side.

"Yeah? Is there something you need, Danica?" She asked happily, ready for whatever the knight wanted.

"Mn... not really?" Danica said, with a shrug. "Just... walking in silence is... disturbing. I'm used to noise, I guess." Danica sheepishly admitted the last; with the last three weeks of travel, she had gotten used to the noise of the party and the rumble of multiple ships; now that they were just walking, she could barely stand the silence. Normally she had been able to just go for days without so much as uttering a word... Damn parties, changing her. "Plus I guess you're my only friend in the party, so... talking to you is a good thing."

"Oh. Well, what do you want to talk about?" Cynthia asked.

She found it a bit sad that Danica still hadn't formed any friendships with anyone else besides her, even through three weeks of travel. Most the party was friendly enough, and Cynthia considered herself friends with most of the people there. Danica really just needed to open up some more and stop being so locked into her own little world. With each passing day, Cynthia became more and more determined to bring Danica to Aphrodasia when their quest was finished. Even if the knight wasn't converted to the Divine Pleasure way of life, the experience would still be good for her. She could do with some loosening up.

"Mm, well. I never asked; now that this quest is actually fruitful, at least in part, what do you plan to do after we complete it?" Danica tilted her head, wondering. By the seven, what would she do after it was done? After all this excitement, following around posh Redemit to week-long sociopolital intra-Order conventions would just be boring... more boring than watching the stars move. Perhaps she would just switch to collecting stories, and make a name for herself that way. She could be the Writer. Nah, that sounded bad. Perhaps the Recorder - no, boring... Chronicler, perhaps. That sounded nice.

Cynthia thought for a moment before shrugging her shoulders.

"Return home. Spend a day with Lillian. Continue on as before. I don't really see why that should change. Why? Is there something specific you wanted to do with me? Did you want to come with me to Aphrodasia? I'm sure Lillian would be happy to meet you, and we'd both do our best to make you feel comfortable. I think it would be a wonderful experience for you."

The mage gave Danica a happy and excited smile, betraying her enthusiasm.

"I-I... I really didn't have plans... but if you're inviting me? It sounds like it would be fun, and lots of people with lots of stories... I've never been, either..." Danica shrugged, and then her helmet's faceplate melted away for a brief smile from the Knight before it re-formed. She was still unhappy removing her armor - even such a little bit - while traveling, but she could at least smile for her friend.

Leading the other members of the seeker party was Arcadius, walking ahead of the others towards the strange settlement they had located in the distance, wondering if the inhabitants would give them any leads towards the next part of the journal... Or if they would even be friendly. He did not know, but just in case, he held Ragnar in his left hand, which was covered by its gauntlet as always, much like the right.

Hearing Aylin's comments about the journal, Arcadius couldn't help but agree somewhat with them. It was suspicious that the author had not even bothered to give his name, and even if the pieces of the journal were not exactly easy to find, as the first was found by simple chance and the second had got them into troublesome fights. However, they were the only leads the party had. Plus, the Aurex seemed confident that they would find the Lost Chalice, and Arcadius trusted the Aurex, regardless of how unorthodox his actions were. However, as all of these thoughts coursed through his mind, he said nothing.

Hearing Heike talk about the Order of Hatakeyama, Arcadius simply listened quietly. He agreed that their methods were unnecessarily harsh. When Heike was finished, he nodded. "Sadly, some Orders have excessively harsh disciplinary measures, thinking that this will ensure their codes are not broken." He stated.

Alaxyl, meanwhile, hung at the back of the group, moving along somewhat slowly but still keeping up. She was rather... Depressed, something quite unusual in her. It was simply that the landscape was so desolate and empty and devoid of life, that she could not help but feel saddened by it. The planet was quite obviously inhabitable, there was even a settlement not far from where the party was. Why, then, was life nowhere to be seen? Why was almost all of the planet nothing more than a barren wasteland? Whatever happened to the life that had most certainly treaded these lands once upon a time?

She shook her head. It wasn't nice to think about these things. She simply followed the group along, waiting to see where their footsteps would take them.

In the distance, the settlement was growing ever closer. It was still a ways away, but from here, the group could see the faint green glow that covered it.

"What an odd settlement." Arcadius commented, seeing the tall white tower that billowed smoke, speaking to no one in particular.

Meanwhile, within the settlement, within the circular structure with the smoking tower, Reed continued to watch what little happened around him. Eventually he decided to break the silence, now that he could. Now that there was something to break the silence with.

"So," He spoke up. "what unfortunate trick of fate is the one that brought you to look for supplies here, out of the thousand more welcoming planets you could have ended up in?" He asked curiously.

Cynthia was going to continue speaking with Danica, but the group then reached the settlement, distracting her. She noticed the green dome covering and surrounding it, identifying it as some sort of magical barrier.

"We probably don't want to touch that," Cynthia spoke up, "I have no idea what it'll do, but it doesn't seem like a simple shield. It's probably dangerous."

While the mage was trained in defensive magics, she had no experience with something like that. It was unlike anything she had seen before and was massively powerful. It made her feel uneasy just standing next to it.

Cara, meanwhile, frowned in disgust. Protecting settlements with magic like that was weak and cowardly. Whatever foe they faced should be combated with dignity. They would gain no honor of victory for defeating it this way.
