Ok, if you consider a Brigade holding the line outnumbered 7-10 to 1 by an army group a skirmish then sure.

Considering Chinese casualties are believed to have been 10,000 to 15,000 depending on source.

Was that the one where the Centurions kicked arse?

Not so much this battle, tis better known for being one of the full occasions that the Royal Artillery has done a full regiment (24 guns) fire mission since WW2.

PS. Don't take people not getting back to you the instant you post so quickly, Christ.

I have a couple of books about Korea. It was hell, there. Especially when the Chinese came into it.

It was hell well before the Chinese had a sniff of the conflict. Especially if you happen to be North or South Korean.

What's interesting are the parallels between Korea and Vietnam. What's more interesting still is how the United States failed to apply most of the lessons, (aside from doing everything possible not to piss off the Chinese, which put the States at a major disadvantage in Vietnam but that's another story) of Korea, in Vietnam.

What? Like France?

I mean to the world in general, not just the United States. We've established that Korea is the forgotten war but the best known battles are probably Incheon, Chosin and Heartbreak Ridge (<--Class movie. Watch it. It has Clint Eastwood.), perhaps you could have the breakout from the Pursan Perimeter as well.

Any action in which 15,000 men are killed can be considered a battle of pretty decent scale. Besides, one Brigade against an entire Chinese Army Group? Sounds like a battle to me.

One Brigade he says

29th Infantry Brigade (UK)
1st Infantry Division (SK)
Belgian Battalion (BL)
Luxembourg Platoon (LX)
3rd Infantry Division (US)
10th Battalion Combat Team (PH)

Two brigades. And a half. :p

And yes, Heartbreak Ridge is a classic movie. Loved it. Used some of the lines from it (not Heartbreak Ridge, Full Metal Jacket) when I feel like being an asshole.

Anyway, "The world in General"

Yeah, the UN was involved, no doubt. I felt like mentioning France so we could all have a good laugh. Oh! Hm, was that 'Nam or Korea... *checks*
'Nam
But a good movie nonetheless, We Were Soldiers, Mel Gibson. Regardless of your personal opinion of the man (asshole) he is a good actor. A dramatization of the Battle of Ia Drang, that doesn't portray the North Vietnamese as heartless cruel evil commie bastards (which they were :p ), or the US as a paragon of Jesus-hood (which they were not).

Centurions are beastly machines. Everything about them screams: I'm going to kill you from a long way away (Especially if you happen to be an Egyptian/Syrian T-54/55)

He's wrong. The bayonet charge at the end simply didn't happen.

They also missed out one of the more important parts of the battle. That being the ambushing of the 2/7th at LZ Albany - things did not go well for the 2/7th that day.

I am going to be honest; my dipshit of a brother just got home from afghanistan and almost killed me twice. Not because of PTSD, but he has some M80s that he just bought.

So I'm saying that Ive been too busy.

A friend of mine had a brother who was killed in Ia Drang... I have to say about history, the winners often seem to write it, so it often distorts what really happened. Sometimes, though the opposite seems to happen. I've heard that the Japanese claim that Pearl Harbor was an act of defense in their textbooks...

Is it to hard to imagine Patton, if given the order, riding to Berlin with the rest of the third army, standing out of the hatch of the lead tank, ivory pistol in each hand shooting at any German on the way to Hitlers bunker.

I heard about a conspiracy that the US army actually assassinated Patton after World War 2

Say all you want about Patton, but remember he wasn't as bad as Mark W.Clark.

After the Allies finally fought their way past the Gustav Line they had the chance to finally trap the Germans in a pincher movement and possibly bring an end to the Italian Campaign. It required Clark's US 5th Army to drive east and flank the Germans, so instead of obeying orders he decided to go and liberate Rome thus letting the Germans escape and then dig in on the Gothic Line.

Course the day after Clark held a press conference to glorify the Liberation of Rome as a great American achievement (as the journalists dryly commented) the Normandy Landings took place.
