Red flag to me was a international flying circus.

Flankers from India, Mir-2000s from France.....ah...to be among them again....

Did you fly against the German F-4s, the ICE models? Those were the coolest of the foreign airplanes I thought.

Yeah, the pilot of one of them was a son of one of my fathers friends.
When I told him who my dad was, he told his group about me and we all became friends.

I was shot down twice....

Well.......

It's freedom. Pure and simple, flying with the 65th was an honor.

And I learned what pulling Gs felt like.

It's like a instant curtain falling on your eyes. Scary at first, but your training kicks in.

Ooooooo~. I thought about being a fighter pilot. I also thought about being an Officer for AF SF. Or maybe an aerial gunner, or Security Forces. I also thought about joining the Army and maybe being a Helicopter Pilot like I've always wanted.

I'm hoping to get my pilot's license this year...

So I figured the ICE model F-4s are still a force to be reckoned with. Anybody hear the crazy rumor that the Turks were going to give the Albanians F-4s and F-16s???

That's probably good advice.. I am always skeptical towards rumors. Did you ever refuel off the CA ANG tankers per chance? You could have, they switched to Predators in 08..

I actually had a fear of air refueling.

Like in air force one.......

"ok LT zimmermann...wait...too fast too fuckin fast!!! SHIT!!"

But I refueled from a CA ANG tanker only once.

The rest was via Nevada ANG I think...

Nevada ANG had C-130s, I think... Anyways, I got to sit in a German F-4F at Reno 2004. The pilot was from JG-71..

Yes, that squadron. I got to be good buddies with him, and visited JG-71 at Wittmund, saw their history room, briefing room, and flew in their F-4 sim.. Yeah, that group. ;)

Hey guys,
So my TA just sent me a message saying the paper I thought I would have to work all night on is getting pushed back! YAY!
So expect an IC post tonight!

And lemme just say (to catch up) I'm very impressed with all the Air Force stories and people - I forgot we had actual fighter pilots (well, ex-fighter pilots anyway) in here. You guys rock.
Me, I'm just a scrawny teenager with glasses, so I'm right out on that score. I have friends in Air Force ROTC, though,

I might have to have us meet Hartmann at some point.
Dude's kill record is ludicrous, even if a lot of it was gotten through ambushing outdated Soviet planes and the like.

Personal History/Bio (more than one line please): Thomas was born in Sydney, Australia in 1913, his father serving for Britain in the Great War, and losing his life in doing so. thomas was raised by his mother, and was constantly studying the progressively more interesting aircraft landing and taking off at the local airport. He came out of Sydney University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and decided to follow his fathers steps and joined the Australian Army. He didn't like the ground forces and applied for a transfer to the RAAF. Thomas served in the RAAF for 3 years before the war, only to be transferred to Excaliber when war broke out in Europe.

I'd hold your horses until you're actually accepted.
First, I see you got the rank issue settled - that's good.
Second, I'd like to see some specific links to actual RPs. I'm sure you've been in a lot, but I want to see what you're specifically doing too.
Third, any possibility of a little more development as to those "four sorties"? I mean, that could mean anything. I'm a sucker for detail.

When that stuff gets cleared up, you're in.

He seemed like a pretty cool guy, considering all the horrible stuff he went through. I mean, his son was born and died while he was in the camps. That's gut-wrenching.
It was a shitty thing that happened to him postwar, but it seems silly how far it went - if he was offered a post in the East German Air Force while he was in Siberia, couldn't he have just accepted and then maybe stolen an aircraft and defected?
I mean, it's risky, but so's consigning yourself to staying in a labor camp for a decade.

I've heard some pretty interesting comments from RAF crews on air refuelling.

"Arranging mid-air collisions between aircraft."

"Two insects mating in flight."

"Shoving wet spaghetti up a cat's backside."

Speaking of refueling, you guys should watch The Starfighters - one of the worst movies ever made, basically a Lockheed propaganda commercial stretched out to a feature-length film. In lieu of action, characters, writing, effects, story, or literally anything, they have about half an hour (of an 80-minute film, mind) of stock footage of F-104s midair refueling. You can find it on youtube, along with a mocked version of it done by Mystery Science theater 3000.
So many potential refueling-based innuendos.

Anyway, new post up, and yes, it's true - halfway through, I decided to embark on my long-planned project to begin to refer to my chars by their FIRST NAMES!
What a radical shift!

Malta hey?

Nice piece of barren rock to spend two weeks with a stomach bug.

Dec 1940 seems to have been the 'eye of the storm' during the Siege of Malta, though I have a book cover gives some details on the Maltese airfields during this time which I'll post up.
