Hi Tiger! Currently I am undergoing some stress IRL and will not be able to partake in many NationStates events, so I would just like to inform you I will be leaving this thread. I will have you know that the moment everything clears up, I can and will be reapplying if need be. Thanks!

Okay. So several things.

First off, the new, shiny, glorious Operation Taurus is up and ready. You'll notice I saved us a great deal of time on the "getting to the action" part by starting us right in the thick of it. No need to thank me. Take note, though: this current little battle we're in is but the introduction to the real operation, the first part of two, the appetizer to the main course, if you will. And all the hints applied to the main course, so don't be too alarmed that none of the hints hinted at Taranto.
So have fun and blow some shit up. Don't get too carried away, though - you're in an extraordinarily flammable and old biplane torpedo bomber with either one torpedo or 1500 pounds worth of bombs, over a hostile port bristling with AA. So hit hard, but don't be a hero.

Second, you'll notice the Tempsford thread alludes to Page getting sent mysterious new aircraft to train Excalibur on about 5 weeks before Taurus began and about 2 weeks before we would've left. These are the Swordfish we're using now. This is my way of putting in a bit of a narrative backdoor for everyone getting Swordfish-trained in time for the op. I know it's wildly accelerated, but you're the best of the best and all that, and plus, I can sorta justify it with the retcon that we did additional training actually on the Illustrious prior to the operation. If you wanna be a pilot, that's awesome. If you think this whole thing of getting Swordfish qualified so quickly is silly, you can feel free to be somebody's gunner if you'd like as well. Keep in mind, standard ES training protocol (as established back in...oh, I think about Falkland or so) includes carrier landings and takeoffs, so you're not starting from zero on this.

Third, I feel I owe UKP a bit of an apology for totally shooting down Taranto as an idea all those months ago and then using it right in the very next op.

Back then, I was thinking about using it as the whole operation, but later on, I realized it would work perfectly as an action-y beginning to a different operation, so I changed my mind. Your idea was better than I gave it credit for, and I'm sorry.

Fourth, THESE PICSPAM RP WARS ARE LITERAL THREAD CANCER. I SAW THAT WHEN I CAME HOME FROM CLASS AND I NEARLY HAD A PANIC ATTACK AT THE THOUGHT OF A MOD COMING IN AND SHUTTING US DOWN FOR TURNING INTO A SPAM THREAD.

I don't believe that Pearl Harbor happened yet so there would be no reason to. That, and Napalm wasn't developed until 1942.
