Saw the Spitfire again as I was heading back home from the city, the sneaky bugger flew right overhead.

Didn't have clipped wings and I swear its painted in a photo-recce blue colour and had invasion stripes, might have even been the Spit I saw at East Kirkby last month.

Four airworthy PR Spits I can think of. One (PR.IX, Hanger 11 Collection) had stripes and has since been painted. This I am entirely sure of, as I saw it on Saturday. The only PR Spit with stripes is the BBMF's PR. XIX.

It's taking a long time, mainly because I have to write dialogue for an actual historical character (which I generally fucking hate - the exception is Churchill, because I can sort of ape his style and I can have fun doing it, but I concede I do it horribly).
What makes it even worse is that I have a clear idea of how he wrote - he was extraordinarily florid and vivid, a crazily skilled guy, in a way that would take me years to do justice, but I have very little idea of how he would talk.
So that makes things worse. I can write in little crutches and backdoors for myself to make excuses for my own failings, but it takes time regardless.

I hardly ever see Spitfire even though the company that restores them is based less than 40 miles away. Good news his hopefully they might bring the Mosquito over for next year's air show. Last year they had an Fw 190 present which was neat.

It's worth noting that this is a very, very, VERY early 190, so perhaps its dominance isn't quite as well-established as it would be later on.

So, basically like the early Mustang models. Back when it was still a British order, and when they gave it the shitty Allison engines.

I liked Armageddon better. Saying that as an aspiring aerospace engineer and astrophysicist.

I can, will, and have pointed out every scientific inaccuracy in that movie (like, seriously, ask my parents and my former next door neighbor). But dammit, its so bad its good! Its kind of like that Flash Gordon movie they made in the 80s. Once you look past the cheesiness and the implausibilities, its a good movie.

To be completely and totally honest, short of a modern fighter, if you're going to have an anachronistic fighter in your WWII movie, you might as well go for broke and get something badass. Especially one descended from the best American fighter of the entire war, even if that fighter itself is still barely more than a prototype in British hands.

I mean, even War Thunder has the F-86. And Blazing Angels has the Twin Mustang as early as the Rabaul Raid, IIRC. Which is before you even get the P-51D in game. That's a major anachronism if ever there was one.

Maxime Belaguer was born into a working class family in February 1917. His father was a fighter pilot in the nascent French Air Force and became a verified ace during the conflict. He was inspired by his love for aviation by his father but was sadly discouraged from following in his father's footsteps when his father died in a landing accident on the 13th of November 1918. His mother raised him by herself. Maxime was always considered to be a bit of an outsider to his friends. He was always distant, cynical, not interested in anything other than fulfilling his ambition to make his father proud. He became a mechanic, left home and got employment in a factory manufacturing gearboxes for Renault. In 1938, at the age of 21, Maxime enlisted with the French Air Force and was based in Chatres. He didn't tell his mother until the following year when he qualified as a fighter pilot. She gave him his father's revolver as a graduation present and accepted his graduation fatalistically. Since then, he has grown distant from his mother, even failing to tell her that he managed to survive the Battle for France in 1940 and was living in exile in the United Kingdom...

1) Take the metro, cleanest in the world. I'm serious, we have the cleanest metro in the world. It's also fast, efficient, and rarely suffers breakdowns in comparison to other metros, despite the bitching of some people around here. There's even a Smithsonian stop, and most places you're never more than a few blocks from a stop.

2) Visit the NASM, National Air and Space Museum in downtown DC. Wicked cool.

3) For the love of god, do not, under any circumstances, do anything other than walk/drive past the white house. There's protesters daily.

4) DO NOT TAKE CHAIN BRIDGE. AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS.

*has been to DC twice*

1. I will confirm.

2. YES. YES. YES. ALL OF MY YES. The last time I went, I nearly had an aviationgasm. I took like, a shitton of pics while there.

3. Didn't see any when I went, at least as far as I can remember. At least none that were saying shitty shit. Walked up to the south lawn back when Shrub was leeching off the taxpayers there, about 2 years after 9/11, and saw the other side in 2011 when I went with the Southern Baptist school I was going to. Worst shit I heard was coming from my classmates (mostly racist shit), although we did see snipers on the rooftop. As far as protesters went, aside from some people trying to raise awareness of hunger and shit, didn't really see or hear much.

4. I have no clue. Must be a local thing.

If the Louisianian characters (an awful lot, surprisingly, and he can nail the accent) he played in QL are any indication, his character in NCIS:NOLA (geddit right, dammit) will be fairly decent. He always seems to do good with characters from Louisiana.

Speaking of NOLA, it seems that with my visit down there last week, my 4 year long exile from my homeland may be coming to a close. My cousin (who I came out to, and she was amazingly supportive) offered to let me live with her. The only stumbling blocks seem to be how to get down there. Short of waiting until mom takes another trip down there again. But dammit, I WILL return, even if I have to jump into the Cumberland and swim.
